He reached out for a conversation before I came in and I knew I was in good hands. And then I was BLOWN AWAY by what he was able to achieve!! I had expected it would take a few visits to get there. Justin knows hair!! There is a science and an art to color, especially for those of us wanting dimensional color. Justin has both expertise and artistry!! I'm just delighted. I want to also mention that the salon itself is lovely. Spacious and airy, with a sweet back patio. I loved the art, too. The whole experience was uplifting! Hailey took the time to understand what I was looking for and explained the process in the way that I understood. She made recommendations for color and services to help my damaged hair in a way that was clear she was doing what was best for me and my hair and not upselling at all. She even took the time to redo the color on my roots when it didn't come out quite right the first time (due to my hair's porosity not her mistake). I am so happy with how it turned out! I've frequented this salon many times, and came here in late October for an all-over color with the same hairstylist that I always get my haircuts with. I made a prior appointment, and arrived right on time. Unfortunately, the hairstylist I made the appointment with was caught up doing a last-minute color service for what was initially only a haircut appointment. As much as I would've appreciated a call from the salon asking to push back or reschedule my appointment, I didn't know until I walked in. My usual hairstylist asked if I would be fine with another hairstylist applying the color on my hair, which I was very hesitant about. My last hair coloring experience at another salon went very poorly, and I have major trust issues when it comes to getting my hair done. Hence, me making the appointment with the same stylist I always go to. However, I didn't want to seem difficult, so I agreed. The second hairstylist was very accommodating, listened to my needs, and walked me through their process. The step of mixing the color and applying it to the ends of my hair was fine. Since I had bleached ends, they briefly applied some darker dye to color correct it so that the final color would be uniform. However, about 15-20 minutes after they applied the final color onto my ends, they went back in and put the remaining color on my roots. They let it sit and develop for some time; during this time, the chemical smell was starting to burn my eyes and both my scalp, but I blindly trusted the process. I also noticed that my hair hadn't been pinned up, and was laying over my shoulder on top of a towel. Another passing stylist noticed this, and resorted to laying an extra towel on top of my sweater to keep the dye from permeating. The initial stylist I made the appointment with glanced over and noticed that the roots of my hair was developing much faster than the rest of my hair and was becoming too light. After they held a brief conversation with the stylist dying my hair in their mixing room, my stylist came back out to take me to the hair wash station. The stylist I made the appointment with also finished with their client around this time. After the hair wash, the original stylist I booked with noticed the uneven color between my ends and my roots in greater detail. It was from this point that they took over my service. They resorted to dying my roots with a darker color, applying a third and final round of hair color. They let this process, then washed and dried my hair like usual. I had also asked for curtain bangs, and while this hairstylist was typically very thorough in our prior haircuts together and would ask me where my natural part is before cutting, they didn't do so that day. I left that day with unevenly colored hair, a burning scalp, ear, and neck, uneven bangs, and with $195 less than when I walked in. On that car ride home, I wouldn't even dare to look at myself in the front view mirror because I didn't want to upset myself even more. I came home and immediately washed my hair again to give my scalp some relief from the burning. From that point on, I noticed a chemical burn on my ear and neck where the first hairstylist had positioned my hair while it was being dyed. This burn lasted for roughly 5 days. The next day, I received a check-in text from the original hairstylist that I booked with. They asked if I liked my hair color and that if I wanted, they could put a more vibrant color on my hair free of charge. I declined at that time, informing them of my chemically burned neck, ear, and scalp, and stated that I wanted to allot some time for my skin to heal first. They were very understanding, gave me instructions on how to treat the burns, and offered again to re-do my hair free of charge.In the weeks/ months following, I suffered unusual hair loss from my burnt scalp which I'm still trying to correct three months after. If I were to rate my overall hair coloring experience alone, I'd give it zero stars. I would not expect this poor of a service anywhere, especially not at a professional salon. But, I appreciate the efforts that were made to reconcile for my bad experience. Although I've lost my trust for this salon, I still have respect for this small local business where the technicians are all sweet and accommodating. My intention in writing this review is not to berate, bring down ratings, or cause a loss in business. I just wanted to provide my full experience so that others could learn from my mistakes and be more outspoken during their services if they feel skeptical at any point during their services. read more

My family and I moved to the bay area in late 2006 as part of a job move and I had the difficult task of finding a new place to get my hair cut. After reading some reviews on the Internet, I decided to give Salon One a try. It is now 2010, and I have been a loyal customer ever since. Jasmine and her staff are great and they always provide a friendly and warm atmosphere. Jasmine is always willing to accommodate my schedule, and I always seem to be able to make last minute appointments (10-15 minutes in advance). It also helps that I work only 10 minutes away. I would say that I'm a very detailed oriented person, especially when it comes to my hair and appearance. Aftet 4 years of getting my hair cut at Salon One, I've never been disappointed. Jasmine and her staff alway do a terrific job. Maybe this is the reason that I go to get my hair cut every two weeks! As for the Graziela C posting below, i just happened to be getting my haircut by Jasmine when this girl (Graziela C) and what appeared to be her boyfriend came in and demanded a refund. I'm a little shocked by her comments to say the least. First off, the boyfriend and this girl were totally rude to all the customers in the Salon, since we all had to wait and listen to their complaints. If these two had any manners, then they would of at least waited until Jasmin had time to talk to them. Instead, we all had to listen to the rude boyfriend talk about his girlfriend's ridiculous red hair color and how it was all the Salon's fault. In looking at this girl's hair color, the first thing that I thought of was a Circus Clown....Ringling Brothers perhaps?. I then quickly realized that nobody in their right mind would have picked this color, and there is no way that Jasmine or her staff would have picked this color for one of their customers. In looking at the overall appearance of this girl, I soon was under the impression that she was one of these alternative "grunge" girls, judging by her attire. I firmly believe that this girl picked this ridiculous bright red color and then went home to her boyfriend who couldn't take the new bright red color. In witnessing the whole confrontation, I really don't understand this girl's comments that she posted. It doesn't make any sense with what I witnessed that day. Jasmine did her best to reconcile their issues, but both of them did not want to listen. Jasmine even offered to try to correct the color, but they both simply wanted a refund. I'm pretty sure the boyfried did not know the whole story. In any case, I have known Jasmine for 4 years now and I know she would do anything to make sure her customers are satisfied. She is a sweet, honest, and an incredible person who only wants to make her customers happy. read more

Six + years ago, I switched from going to a nice hairdresser to check out Jasmine's newly opened Salon One in downtown Alameda. Going to Salon One has improved my looks and my relationships. First, my husband insists that I look "younger" after each visit. Second, my friends often take me aside and ask whether I spent a lot of money to get such a great haircut or highlights and could they possibly get an appointment with the same person who coiffed me. Several times, perfect strangers have stopped me in the street to ask where I get my hair styled. Finally, one friend who had not seen me for 2 months insisted that I must have got a facelift - and it was just my new hairdo! Jasmine knows style, cut, and color. She regularly participates in hair styling events, sometimes as a judge of other stylists. She trains her staff, helping them to learn the intricacies of cut, style, and chemical treatment. But what goes beyond knowing the latest styles, how to cut and color to achieve the "look," is how considerate she and her staff are with every customer. I look forward to my appointments, as I know I will be treated with care; I will feel more relaxed; and I may even bump into a friend who asks me if I just returned from vacation or got some surgery to make me look younger. Crystal is the best. I came in there with a tow up inverted bob haircut from another salon in chinatown and she fixed it right up for me. then i came back for coloring and highlighting ... she did such a good job ... the color always complimented my skin color which i have light skin. she's such a friendly person and always have a smile on her face. she gave me facial i feel so refresh after. if you were to go to salon one ... i would reccomend crystal, she really puts the time and effort and gives you the styl to match ur face. i've always leave happy after she finishes. no lie, i came to salon one before she started working there and thier work was only okay, i wasnt in love with my hair before and always thought the price was a little pricy. i once had my hair colored and cut and i was in there for 4 hrs and she was very concern with me all the time making sure that i was okase, if i was hungry or thirsty ... she taught me techniques to better take care of my face complexion. amazing. now that i have crystalas my stylist i feel like im getting my money worth. i always tip her 20% or more ... she's such a sweetheart, it's not like one of those .... *oh man i tip her too much for this cut or makes you feel like you should have gave less* she def. deserve it. I'm not the type to spend time writing reviews online, but I was so disappointed with this service that it prompted me to create a Yelp account so that I could write a review. Due to the high reviews, I went here last year and had a fairly nice haircut done by a woman who was going out on maternity leave (Jenny, I think). It wasn't an amazing cut for the price compared to other places in Alameda, so I've still been on the lookout for someone who can cut short hair without making me look like a boy. I thought I'd give them another try recently. I scheduled my appointment online with Tina or Tammy (I don't recall exactly), which was an easy process. The woman who did my hair was pleasant enough, but despite bringing multiple photos of what I wanted and emphasizing that I didn't want to look like a boy or have Frankenstein bangs, that's exactly what I got. She also chopped off all of the length I'd spent months growing out on top despite me saying explicitly that I wanted to grow it out. It was hands down the worst haircut I've ever received, and I've had some bad ones. My advice is that if one doesn't know how to cut short hair on a woman, be upfront with the client about it and advise them to reschedule with someone who does. read more

Before I came to Salon One, I haven't had a haircut since September of 08 and my hair was a total mess, it was long, had a lot of split ends, and was two different color (top: dark brown, bottom: golden brown) . So I decided to go to Salon One as it was recommend by a friend and I was told to ask for Crystal. I read the previous reviews from yelp and she has had really good reviews so I decided to give it a try. I can not tell you how amazing Crystal is, she gave me suggestions on how to fix my horrid head of hair and not only did she give me a haircut I love, she also took the time to trim off all the golden brown hair off. Most stylist I have gone to would never do that for me. I absolutely love my hair. Now that's only about my hair, Crystal is also amazing when it comes to facials!!!! I don't know if anyone else breaks out like I do, but when I stress about school my breakouts go insane. Crystal gave me a facial and I loved it, I started to notice changes on the first day. I will definitely become a regular at Salon One, but it is only if Crystal is the one helping me. So I recommend others to go to Salon One and ask for Crystal. read more

Jasmin is excellent hairdresser. She is a very sweet, warm, and friendly person. Salon One is clean, relaxing atmosphere: no one "try to sale" us anything unless we ask!!! Jasmin and the crew work as a team, they take good care of our hair. Tina did my hair and Howie did my daughter's while Jasmin was on her vacation to Alaska. We like them, too. They are nice. Eleven years ago, my regular hairdresser quitted her job to be fulltime mom. I got my hair done by someone new, my hair was messed up a big time. I came back to them, they couldn't make it right, I went to other salon they made it worst. My hair was in a very bad shape. My best friend referred Jasmin. Jasmin was patiently listening to my concerns about my hair. She did fix my brassy, blotchy, yellow hair! She weaved foil-wrap highlight my hair with a honey blond color. She also gave me a Cellophane hair treatment restoring my dry-damaged hair. Jasmin saved my hair, she made my day! I told my daughters, I told my friends about Jasmin. We have been coming to her regularly ever since 1999. We're glad we found Jasmin/Salon One. read more

Salon One is a great place to get a hair cut. I live in Oakland for more than 10 years, but was never satisfied with any of the salon. My friend introduces me to Salon One and I was very happy. Tina was the first person that cut my hair. I love her, she does such a good job. She is very careful with your hair. The cuts and the coloring are never a sloppy work. Now, when ever I need a hair cut or get my hair color, I always go to Salon One and Tina always does my hair. I would recommend people too get their hair done at Salon One because they are so nice. All the staffs are very nice and they would give you ideas about your hair if you want to try something new but don't know what to do. Tina is the best though. Last time I was only thinking of getting my hair color and she was done with it. At the last minute, I decided to get highlight too. I felt bad because I didn't tell her earlier and she have already dry my hair and straighten it. However, when I told her about it, she happily did it for me and told me not to be shy about asking. A good friend of mine recommended Salon One to me when I first moved in Alameda in 2006. That's when I met Tina. Tina is the best! She is an excellent hair stylist and super sweet! She is not just my hair stylist, I consider her a good friend. Because of her I always look forward to my hair appointments. She has trimmed, cut, colored, and given my hair highlights. She does a great job and I always leave that salon looking fabulous. I recommended Tina to my Aunt (who lives in Reno), my friend/co-worker, sister, brother and my husband. They all love her. My husband's hair is a bit challenging to cut and being in the military he requires a certain length and style. But Tina does a great job and my husband is very satisfied. It's worth paying a little extra compared to going to a regular barber shop. I highly recommend this place everyone there is nice - Howie, Crystal, Jenna and the owner Jasmin. read more

I recently had a very disappointing experience at this salon, despite a positive visit in the past. I booked an appointment online for a wash and cut and arrived 10 minutes early. After checking in, I was asked to take a seat, but I ended up waiting for 45 minutes past my appointment time without any updates or acknowledgment from the staff. Another client arrived for a wash and cut, and when she mentioned that her appointment was running 10 minutes behind, the staff promptly found someone to assist her. I pointed out that my appointment had been scheduled for 45 minutes ago, yet I was simply told to wait a bit longer. This felt disrespectful, especially given my earlier appointment. After nearly an hour of being ignored, I decided to leave. Based on my prior experience, I expected much better service. I have to say that Kelly did a wonderful job on my hair. When I came in my hair was flat on top, I have very thin hair, she gave me ideas, shows me pictures in the book, for the hair style she thinks will fits me the most.. She gave me a very beautiful layered haircut, that makes my hair looked more volume on top and fuller hair on the bottom. My face was big, and so she add layers around my face so that it frames my face and creates a very soft, gorgeous layers, and makes it seem like my face was skinnier, that just fit perfectly with my face shape, which I really like. She even shampoo my hair, and style my hair, and gave me sexy, loose, curls like Jennifer Lopez hair. She even took time to show me a quick simple way to style my hair . First of all the place is nice and clean with huge windows. I went and got a haircut and decided to get my highlights done there the next time. I was given my stylist's name and instagram page to check out her work as a reference. As me and my girlfriend were looking though her photos we stumbled upon inappropriate pictures and videos of the stylist, pretty much pornographic content between the pictures that she has of the salon. It seems to me like she was confused and she treated this page like "only fans" which makes me think that this place offers "special massages" or something of that sort, since that type of content is involved between pictures of the salon. I would not recommend to get involved with that business, which clearly is allowing the advertisement of this type of services in their stylist's page. read more

I just moved here from Phoenix and was looking for a new hair stylist. A female co-worker told me that she highly recommends Jasmin at Salon One so I made an appointment and saw her on Friday. I'm a guy in my mid 40's with a thick and full head of hair, plus I'm very particular. Jasmin first had one of her assistants wash my hair and then she gave me the exact cut and style that I was looking for, then her assistant washed my hair and gave a great head massage. I will definitely be going back. My co-worker loved my hair style today at work and told me about YELP, so here I am. I rode my bicycle to the salon and they let me put it in the back of the salon while I was there. Afterwards I went across the street to Tomatina(?) and had a great dinner. I just moved here in Alameda and wanted to get a haircut. My sister took me to Salon One as she's been going there for about 3 yrs now. I love the place. Tina rocks! She is wonderful, she did an amazing job styling my curly hair. And she is the sweetest thing, I instantly liked her. She is thorough and she has the softest hands. Jasmin, the owner of the place is nice too. So is Howie and Crystal. But Tina is definitely the one you want to ask to do your hair. She will make u look fabulous! I can't wait to set my next appointment.:) By the way, to the douche who thinks they are Chinese, you're a dumbass. They are Vietnamese! I think you belong to a barbershop and not a Salon. Because salons like SALON ONE are for beautiful and fabulous people ONLY. read more

First off,Eric,What you have on your neck area appears to be herpetic .I suggest 400 mg of Acyclovir 5 x's daily.You cannot aquire that condition in the manner you spoke of. You also should use a 'model" with similar hair color if you want to broach believeabilty. Now,Salon One ,has been my choice since it opened.Jasmine,Jenna and Tina are the best,bar none!!Tina does my hair,and convinced me to get a facial now and again;and at 53 she once again made a good call. i am treated with with respect and professionalism each and every time. I was surprised by recent negative reviews about Jasmin/Salon One. I wonder these review-writers have ever met Jasmin or have ever been in Salon One before? Or could this from Salon One's competitor?! This is not "what Yelp for". I've lived in Alameda for more than 3 decades, owned my restaurants in town since 1995. Jasmin has been my hairstylist for 12 years. Salon One is a super clean work place with lots of sunlight. Jasmin is very charming, caring, and friendly. She's gifted in doing hair. She gives good quality services. She's very professional in business industry. JASMIN IS VERY FRIENDLY. SHE IS NOT SNOOTY and SHE'D NOT LET HER CLIENTS LEAVE THE SALON UNSATISFIED. read more

I have went to Salon One and Kelly did an excellent job with my haircut. She did exactly like the way I like with my hair. After the haircut was finish, it look so smooth, even and well blended. She make sure she shave my lower neck very clean, and neat, other people just shave a little bit on the neck ,but Kelly she shave all the hair on my lower neck, and I really like the fact that she pay attention to details like that, after the haircut she gave me a fabulous shampoo, I felt so relaxing with the shampoo. Even my wife, and friends said they like my haircut. I will recommend them to Kelly, because she's excellent with men's hair. read more

Moved up here in the Bay Area from San Diego about 8 months ago, I went to a couple different salons and I can finally say, I have found my new hair salon and hair stylist. I showed Tina a few pictures to get an idea on how I wanted my hair done, and she suggested what should be done so my hair doesn't get too damaged. The end result is waaay better than I expected. I received plenty of compliments and had a few people from work asked where I got my hair done. I've been coming to Salon One for 5 years and will remain a loyal customer. Everyone there is very talented and friendly. Since I am only available on weekends usually Howie does my color or highlights and cut and Tina does my blow dry which lasts a long time and people say it looks great. They handle walk-ins most of the time and I never have to wait when I have an appointment. A great place and I recommend it for all hair types. Credit cards not accepted but there is an ATM if you get caught without cash. A great place and well located in downtown Alameda - get styled and then go out to lunch or dinner! read more

This was by far the most disappointing salon experience that I have ever had after moving to Alameda! The stylist Jasmin who is owner here are unfriendly and unhelpful I feel like that I'm at Chinatown where people are trying to sell you all kinds of salon products and converse in Vietnamese over my shoulder the whole time . And never had a bad man's haircut until I went to Salon One! dirty , unfriendly, bad parking, staff acts like trash and there is no class or ambiance here. Rating should be 0 on he scale this place is not a nice place to experience -- RUN while you have hair left on your head. read more

I had an appointment at 10am with Carmen. When I arrived in the salon not one single staff greeted me or even acknowledged me. Not even a "be with you shortly!" so I stood there waiting and after about 10 minutes of standing there and being ignored, I left. I ended up walking 2 blocks down to New Style Salon. They greeted me warmly before I was even fully in the door, and they sat me down for a haircut right then and there. I received a wonderful haircut from Larry (wash, cut, and blow dry all under $60!). Larry took his time as well- I was there for 1 hour and he made sure my hair was perfect. I will never make the mistake of coming to New Hair of Alameda again. GO TO NEW STYLE SALON INSTEAD!!!!
