I have been to several salons & have never heard of a stylist not wanting to highlights because of the bleach...lol, yes that's how you do highlights. After 2 years of growing out my hair and a disappointing attempt (at another salon - my review for that one has been filtered) to get a fun, funky, stylish do, I finally have a cut and color that suits my face, lifestyle, and personality perfectly. I popped into this salon mostly because it is super close to my house. The receptionist listened to my tale of woe. Then she said, "I know the PERFECT person for you. She's with a client, but let me see if she has a second to meet you." Within 2-3 minutes, she reappeared and introduced me to Andrea. After a one-minute-max conversation, I had a good feeling about this stylist, so I made an appointment for a cut only. The cut is amazing. Andrea looked at all 15 of the pictures I brought in. She asked what I liked about each one. Then she separated out three or four and told me that she could cut my hair in a way that I could get all those types of looks, depending on how I style it. I told her to go for it, and I'm so glad I did. I loved the cut so much that I scheduled a color appointment for the next week. Andrea clearly cared enough to spend some time thinking about my color because she had pictures for me to look at when I arrived. Together we picked a three color palette (mostly she suggested and I loved) that thrilled me. I have a dark chocolate brown, a lighter brown with a hint of reddish and a super white blond color in big chunky angled sections. I can actually change the primary color of my hair daily just by swooshing it in one direction or another. Sounds weird, but it is funky and sophisticated at the same time. When I got home, my husband said my whole energy was different and that I should never wear another hairstyle...EVER! My friends and coworkers (women AND men) still (two weeks later) say they can't get over how cool and pretty my hair is. Andrea can't take credit cards, so take a checkbook. Most stylists pay rent on their "stations" and operate as independent businesspersons. They, like many other personal/other service people, are among the first to bite the bullet when COVID control necessitates close-contact business closings. There are some good stylists here. They are there to make a living and give you a lift in tough times. That said, there is at least one "bad apple" who could really care less about protecting their, or other workers', customers. When I politely pointed out that I wasn't comfortable with his lack of COVID-protective techniques, he did not hear my fear of the virus, but instead immediately began to argue who knows most about it. Rather than respond respectfully, he was rude and abusive, shouted at me, and initiated a drama that no customer in any business should ever have to witness or experience. Don't spend your money to have an ignorant, arrogant, or apathetic worker risk your life and make you miserable. read more

i've been beside myself with whether to write this review because i never want to try to stop another black woman's coin, but please, if you have curly hair like mine DO NOT LET YGEE CUT/STYLE YOUR HAIR. just go somewhere else because she will ruin your hair and not take any responsibility for it. she didn't even acknowledge me until 40 minutes after my appointment time, first of all. i should've just got up and left then. She did a brief consult and we both agreed i didn't need to cut much of my hair; i just wanted it to have more of a long (key word) a line shape. i was excited because I'm almost never on the same page as stylists, and she seemed to know exactly what i wanted which was to preserve my length, but still be cute. i regret letting my guard down, honestly. she also talked me into a keratin treatment that i did not need. she said it would keep me from having to stretch my hair as much, which sounded like a dream, so i was for it. she handed me a comb after to demonstrate its effect, but my hair is not difficult to detangle when wet anyway, plus i only finger detangle. PLUS SHE HAD JUST DETANGLED IT so yeah the comb slid right through it. same thing would've happened with a little water and conditioner. when i called back to tell her that i wasn't seeing any difference in my texture she refused to listen and just said "it's different" despite saying that she would correct it for free if i wasn't happy as a selling point. so over a hundred dollars wasted on NOTHING right there, but that wasn't even my main issue. this cut is hideous. it is not at all what i asked for and it barely reaches my shoulders when stretched in the back now. it was close to armpit length when i went in there. she refused to acknowledge that either, and said it was dead ends. girl bye. she didn't offer to restyle it, a refund, discounts, nothing. y'all, she charged me $150 to come out the salon looking like i just woke up. the nerve! read more

I had been growing my hair for years, it was long, straight and boring. I was very attached to my hair and would shed tears when just getting it trimmed, but one day I decided I needed a change, a big change. I had seen Salon Phoenix many times and I decided to set up an appointment. Well...I wound up with Ryan and I think it was destiny! Ryan was amazing, he was more nervous than I was! He didn't want to cut as much off as I wanted and told me that if I still wanted to go shorter that I could come back free of charge. He understood that this was a huge deal. Needless to say, I went back. I just fell in love with my new short hair and Ryan. The staff is super friendly and very nice. My hair has never looked better. I have gotten my husband to go see Ryan now too, and he says the same thing, that his hair has never looked better. I have gone back for them to style my hair for parties and have even had my makeup done there. I recommend Salon Phoenix and Ryan. read more

I usually like coming here, don't have a particular stylist that I see normally. Up til today it's been great, able to call the day of and get an appointment. But today I got there and was informed this particular stylist didn't take credit or debit card, only cash or check. I realize that each stylist there does there own payment options, but I feel like I should have been told that over the phone before the appointment. I didn't want to go all the way home and get a check book so I booked at another salon. Pretty disappointed today. read more

Salon Phoenix?? Really? I don't believe anything worthwhile has come from the ashes of this old, outdated salon in a very long time. Unless you prefer hairstylists who need to grow some ears and listen to what their clients want, STAY AWAY. Especially avoid the back row of stylists. The salon owner, who works in the first chair, makes clients hold the color bowls while he colors their hair - old school and unattractive hair are methodially ejected from his chair like people through a revolving door. It's not clear what this salon's definition of "hip" and updated is, but count on NOT finding it there. And just say a big NO to Mina, also in the back row. Customer service? What a joke - I fell for the insincere and unreal verbal spin, not to mention the amount of product, that woman can put on a drab, half-baked hair style - I've left her chair so unhappy, I couldn't hold back the tears, while the entire row of stylists went out of their way to shout out how great my uninspired hair cut/color looked. In the days when I believed, I referred 5 people to her. They all left long before I had the guts to. When I did, I found a wonderful hip world of fine hairstylists in the Denver salon scene! Kimberly L. has cut and colored my long, natural curly hair for the past several years. She is the only hair stylist I trust with my hair, so much so I followed her when she left a previous salon. Her talent for understanding curly hair is undeniable. I've never had a bad color or cut (whether cutting an inch to cutting several inches and adding layers) from Kimberly. Even if there was something I wasn't happy with (which hasn't happened once in my case), I know I could tell Kimberly and she would work with me to make it right. She doesn't take advantage of her customers either! If my hair didn't need a cut or a color I was thinking of wouldn't work right with my skin color, she would tell me (she is brutally honest, one of the many reasons I love her). She has an eye for matching/mixing colors, whether going for a drastic change or simply adding natural coloring to mix in the greys. Kimberly (the "curl whisperer") is an amazingly talented stylist whose ultimate goal is to make her clients happy. She has never cut too much and always checks in to make sure everything is going as expected. There are no surprises with Mina, you always get what you want. I previously called this salon to make my son a first time appt with a stylist named Lashay. She came recommended by my co-worker who has been seeing her for years to have her locks done. When I called, the receptionist, Joan, did not seem very pleasant. I asked if Lashay was seeing clients for locks. She said she wasn't sure because she had heard she stopped taking new clients, but that she also heard that she was. There was this awkward silence and then I asked if she could please find out. She seemed annoyed by my request. She put me on hold and came back and said that Lashay was seeing new clients. I then asked what the cost of the locks would be. She told me she did not know. I find this very unprofessional. I mean come on, how do you not know about prices for customers? I then asked once again if she could find out. She went on to tell me that the price could vary. I told her my son had very short hair in which half was shaved and to please provide me with a ballpark estimate. She had to put me on hold to personally ask Lashay of prices. Came back and told me the cost would be anywhere between $200.00 to $1000.00. This is a VERY broad ballpark. I was very turned off by this and will not be taking my son there. It can't be that difficult to provide someone with an estimate given his hair length is roughly 3 inches and even worse, you should know your stylists prices. I tell you what, if I were running a business and found out my receptionist was conducting this kind of business, I'd let her go. Customer service speaks volumes. I have been seeing Jim and going to Salon Phoenix for as long as Jim has been there..about 6 years... HE IS FABULOUS... he has a great eye for what looks good..and has gently steered me to the look I have today. I get more compliments than I have ever had..and think I look better than I have in YEARS... I always make sure to go to Jim when I have a special event, he gives me a look that draws so many compliments!... He is THE best Colorist in Denver as well as hair designer. . I will never go to anyone else!... Everyone at the salon is friendly, always stops by to say hi and see how you are doing and ohhh and ahhh at my new look! I think that says alot when his co-workers really appreciate what he does and constantly ask his advice. He is kind, he really listens and focuses on you when you are there... Love this place! Jim has a real eye for his craft. My last few hair cuts from a different salon haven't gone so well and I've been trying to get a certain look for the last few years that no one can seem to understand. Jim's concept was EXACTLY what I wanted! Such a relief to work with some one I can trust! As a new customer, he was very thorough to ask me lots of questions about my career and lifestyle to make sure we found something that would really fit ME. I am usually a stylist worst nightmare because I refuse to put products in my hair and usually walk out the door with nothing more than a quick comb through. He was happy to work with this and even suggested some easy tips to manage it throughout the day without much fuss. I liked his approach as to what were "events" vs. "processes" in relation to what we could do today, and what we could eventually build up to (we were making big changes). We even talked about hair as 3-D geometry (I'm a nerd, I loved it!). I am DONE searching for a new stylist, Jim is my hair's best friend. I can't wait to go back! read more
