I have many complaints about this salon and will never be back. First, the prices are not high, they are astronomical. Think about paying $400 for your color and leaving with wet, uncut hair dripping down your back. Not only do you need to see a separate stylist for a hair cut, you must have a separate appointment for it which you could then wait 30 min for, because apparently no one there knows how to both cut and color hair. Second, because you see different stylists you have to tip them both, as well as any other person you come into contact with. The tipping is not at your discretion either...you are given envelopes at the front counter with names on them and directions about how you need to leave %20 for each person and it must be in cash. This brings me to my third complaint, the trainees. Watch out for that trainee, the one with zero experience who can't see clients on her own because she is not even an employee, she is the one who removes your foils, applies all the prewash and after treatments, shampoos and conditions you and sets up your next "reservation" while you have your head in a sink and have no capacity to consult your schedule. This person whom you most likely will never see again because the trainees drop like flies in this salon, is basically practicing on you while you pay top dollar. Then when the haircut person tries to cut and blow dry your hair, they cannot because neither your color nor your treatments were ever properly rinsed out. This actually happened to me on a visit and it seemed hard to believe that my hair wasn't rinsed out seeing as how the trainee and I were at the sink every 4 minutes for over an hour to rinse out 3 foils at a time. That's another great component of the experience, it takes forever and I mean hours, because they rinse so few foils at a time. Sherry tries to portray herself as a color genious...so why have a trainee off the street rinse me out?? The trainee has no idea what they are doing and on every occasion does something wrong...they put the water on too high and then drench my other foils instead of the small section they are supposed to be removing which makes the color bleed on your scalp or they have no idea what section they are supposed to remove and rinse out the wrong ones. My final complaint is that they invent ridiculous names for things in order to charge you more for them. Just because they call something a "prewash" or a "treatment" and let it sit on your hair for 20min while charging $50, doesn't mean it is anything but a clarifying shampoo and leave-in conditioner! I don't want my hair appointment or "reservation" as they say, to take all day and cost basically a car payment. Also, don't fall for any sales there, I found a sticker on a hair product I bought which was supposed to be $30 marked down %50...but another sticker underneath said $20. They marked it up %50 to discount it %50. My experience has been terrible at Salon Ratay and I would never recommend it to anyone. read more

Booked an appointment for a color and highlights and cut. When I arrived and met with the colorist. (Nikki) I explained that I wanted color with highlights. She then explained to me that I was just down for a color. I told her that was not what I had booked. She explained to me that she couldn't do the highlights because she had no time. I repeated that was not what I booked. Well, we got past that and I then said I would like to go a little lighter than my color now. She explained the process to me and told me she didn't have time for that. That she could even out my color. At this point I was getting a little annoyed because she kept explaining the same thing to me as if I didn't understand what she was saying. I then told her to just give me an all over color to cover my gray. She said, you won't be happy. I explained I'm already not happy, just give me a color and cover up my gray. I asked her, do you want me to leave?, because I couldn't understand what she wanted from me. She said no and then proceeded to walk away. After a few minutes, when she didn't return, I walked out. When I got home I called back the salon and spoke to Jacob who had originally booked my appointment. He acknowledged that I had asked for highlights but that I wasn't sure what I wanted when I spoke to him. He then proceeded to tell me that I didn't know what I was talking about and that I didn't understand the process and didn't even know that highlights and foil were one and the same. I have been coloring my hair for over ten years and certainly do know they are one and the same and have never had this problem at any other salon I've gone to. Obviously they do not understand their jobs and how to make a customer happy. I felt like they thought I was stupid. read more

This is my 5th year of going to Salon Ratay. I moved to Orlando from San Francisco by way of LA, so I've always had my pick of fantastic salons. My initial reason for going to Salon Ratay was simply because they carried Kerastase products and because the were a departmentalized salon so I thought they must be a top notch salon... I had no idea how great the salon would actually be. Sherry is a true artist and color is her craft. She can tell your ideal hair color within seconds of looking at your skin tone. She also takes the time to listen to your needs and wants and then discusses the options with you. You are never rushed and always feel like she has taken the time to make sure you are happy with your hair. The team of stylists at Salon Ratay are fantastic as well. I have been to Alicia, Seonhee, and Tarah and they all give great cuts and FANTASTIC blowouts. If you can appreciate a good blowout... This is the salon for you. Another amazing aspect of the salon is the management. Always willing to work with my busy schedule (I have a 7mth old), an incredibly clean salon, and always a friendly face at the front desk. I have not words how to express how "EXCELLENT, WONDERFUL, GREAT, FANTASTIC, and SO ON" Salon Ratay has been for me... I have been in USA for 12 years, and "I AM" very picky with my hair, I will say too much. Since, I found Salon Ratay around 5 years ago, I felt and feel lucky and beautiful again, and I do not have to be worried about my hair anymore... Salon Ratay have "The Best Staff and The Best Customer Service" I have never seen in another Beauty Salon... They say first impressions are everything, and Salon Ratay won me over from the first time I stepped in the salon. The staff at Salon Ratay is not only able to help me, they are genuine, welcoming and very accommodating on sometimes such short notice. Had I realized this lovely little salon was just minutes away from my home in Lake Mary, I would have been coming here for months. My stylists, Holly and Alicia, are efficient, friendly and made me feel beautiful and calm. They even offer a drink of coffee, tea or spring water while they work. My scalp was massaged and pampered and the stylist demonstrated what she was doing along the way so I could try replicating the blow dry style at home. I'm so thrilled with my hair and even got three whole days out of the blow-out. I have been going here for quite some time. Sherry and her entire staff are wonderful. Holly is a great colorist (and really awesome person). Seonhee gives fantastic, precise haircuts (also, the review that mentions her amazing memory is completely true). They always make sure they understand exactly what I want. I enjoy spending time in this salon, I never feel awkward or unwelcome. They also use top of the line products from Kerastase, Minardi, and Shu Uemura. I highly recommend the Shu Uemura "rituals", they are super relaxing, smell great, and leave your hair feeling super soft. It makes me happy to have this place so close to where I live, but even if I lived far away it would be worth the trip! read more

I came to Salon Ratay 2 years ago from another local salon. I was very nervous about finding a new stylist to trust with my hair. From the very first second I arrived at Salon Ratay, I was treated personably, friendly and my stylists Jazmin and Alicia as well as by all the staff. Alicia and Jazmin can work magic on hair....they are both the best stylist I have ever had! And they always bring smiles to my face with the awesome work or just their great personalities.
