Rafa has since been cutting my hair for about two years, and the results have been some of my best cuts ever. We have grown my hair out, cut it short, and everything in between. Each style has come out in a way that matches my personality and style, and I have gotten more compliments in the past two years of cuts than ever before. His price is on par with any other place I have been to, and he is relaxed as a person, so there isn't forced or awkward conversation. I started coming to this Salon when I lived in Downtown Phoenix. It is a convenient location right next to Lola's coffee. There is a free parking garage located behind the shop. Sergio is my go to hair dresser. I am always happy with the cut and layers he does for my thick hair which needs to be thinned out. They are very good about text reminders for appointments and reaching out if any time adjustments need to be made. The price is on the expensive side, $75 for a cut but it's worth it to me for an every 6 month touch up. If you live in the area I highly recommend. read more

Make an appointment - They get pretty busy, so book in advance if you can. Parking can be a little tricky - There are very few spaces near the salon, but there are a few spaces in the garage behind them as well as some nearby street parking. Balayage is the way to go - Don't like it when your hair coloring grows out? This is the way to go. I usually only get my hair colored twice per year. I hate to leave a negative review but this salon was not it unfortunately. I scheduled an appointment with someone (viewed their social media and confirmed they do my hair shade). When I arrived the woman at the front desk told me the stylist I had scheduled with had an emergency so they have someone else to do my hair. Not a huge deal but a phone call ahead of time to let me know would have been nice. My hair is a pretty specific shade so I want to make sure I work with a stylist who works with my color. A woman came from the back and she had a totally different name than what the girl at the front desk had stated. Okay so completely new person all together. I took my chances. We discussed hair color shades for probably 5-10minutes. She pulled out the sample book and we agreed on a color. This is when she asked if I wanted to add a blow dry. What? You're going to wash my hair and not dry it? No one told me that on the phone. It's crazy for a salon to charge $100+ for a service and not include a blow dry. Of course I wanted to add that because why would I walk out of the salon with wet hair. She showed me the price of everything- $135, which is way more than I usually pay for a root touch up. She starts the coloring process which is fine. Mid hair wash, my hair is looking pretty dark but I'm hopeful. The stylist walks away at some point and leaves me in the wash tub for a long time. Eventually a new girl comes up and says she will finish washing my hair because the other stylist is now doing a haircut. So the new girl rinses my hair and I go back to the station. My other stylist is still cutting someone's hair so I sit and wait and wait. Finally it's my turn again. When my hair dries, I can see the color is so extremely dark and exactly the shade I DID NOT WANT and told her I do not want. I've already been at the salon 3 hours now. Such a disappointment. She knows it's dark too and it trying to convince me otherwise. My blow out had no volume and made my roots look oily. I paid and tipped. Unfortunately my hair is an awful color and I will have to figure out how to fix it. I was just in town visiting and cannot return the salon. After 3 hours and $160+ I am so extremely disappointed. read more

Anyway, I had to take pictures for work (head shots) and needed my hair styled as it had rained earlier in the day and my hair frizzed up. I described what type of hair I had to the receptionist and how I wanted it to look. She set me up with Vlora. A fellow curly-haired woman, she understood my frustration with my naturally curly hair. I had always wanted it super straight and Vlora told me about the Brazilian Blowout. This hair process is life-changing. My hair feels so silky smooth and is straight but with movement. I hate writing negative reviews, especially when the stylist was so kind. But unfortunately there were a couple of things that should not have happened. She spent over 30 minutes discussing the color application and therefore didn't have time to blow dry. The way she asked me about what to do was so confusing - I have never had a stylist take this approach before and it definitely made me confused about if she knew what she was doing. When my color was processing she came back and there was this terrible smell of smoke, I'm not sure if it was the process or if someone was smoking tobacco. And finally, the actual look at the end was nothing like the photo I had sent of my own hair 4 years ago. It was super frustrating and expensive. Unfortunately, to me, it was a mediocre job. I had Keith, who absolutely ruined my hair. I asked for a Balayage, and provided an inspo picture (fully aware that the end product won't look exactly like what can be done on my hair). There was no blend between the shitty bleach job and my regular hair color, just a straight line. Keith told me that he's been doing balayage for 8 years so I trusted him to actually know what a balayage is. I asked him to touch up my roots (gray coverage) and he dyed it a lighter color than my hair, making the color transition look terrible- lighter roots, dark middle, yellow ends. I paid 180 dollars for this service, and then had to pay an additional 200 to another stylist just to fix these mistakes. Pictures speak for themselves, find another stylist. read more

I just moved to Phoenix from Austin. With COVID I had not been to a salon in over a year and I was way overdue! I really hate trying to find a new salon and especially a new stylist but I lucked out on my very first try by selecting RO5 and getting an appointment with Sergio. I went in only knowing I wanted a cut and color but did not have anything definite in mind. Sergio was great in helping me determine a color that would suit me. He has a great personality and I enjoyed visiting with him as he worked. After coloring he trimmed, shaped and styled it. The salon and Sergio now have a repeat customer! So happy to have taken a chance on Salon RO5 a year ago! I moved to Phoenix for a new job and well, finding a new stylist is about as bad as finding a new gynecologist. I researched salons for weeks and called a few places, ultimately going to another salon to see a colorist/stylist who came highly recommended - bad idea! I came across RO5 before going there and should have gone with my gut reaction. I didn't go here first though because the other salon (shall remain nameless) was much closer to me. I had a bad color and ended up going through a few consultations at various salons around the metro area to find someone to correct the issues. I was nervous to let anyone else touch my locks... I spoke with Noah on the phone before coming in for a consultation - I had a great feeling about him! I toon a leap and after spending only 5 min in his chair ... I fell in love with Noah ... shhhh... Don't tell his mister ;-)! Noah is thorough, pays attention to you, and discusses your wants/needs. The best part - he tells you when he thinks you might be going in the wrong direction and doesn't give you false hopes that you will look like the celebrity photo you brought with you. He listens to what you like about the look from the image and translates that to you. It may take a couple of times before the color you achieve is flawless. My hair doesn't behave/ adhere to the traditional color science that stylists are taught in school. My hair is the healthiest and fullest it has ever been. If you want someone who is client oriented, focuses on you during your appointment, and wants you to be happy before getting out of the chair - Noah should be your new stylist. Now ... The stylists are friendly and should you feel interest in trying different peeps, no one will be annoyed. I just love Tamara :) Initially scheduled to come in to model my hair (where they cut, dye, highlight your hair) we changed my appointment. I was concerned that my overly processed hair might have breakage post highlights. Tamara was wonderful in listening to my concerns and suggested coming in for a strand test. Sold by her communication skills I booked a haircut. (If the strand test worked I could be added to the potential model list. Didn't matter. I needed to meet this woman.) Once in the salon Tamara asked what my hair goals were. She combed and fluffed my hair while prodding me along. I have long hair and was in the middle of a slump. Except of course I didn't say that immediately. While having my hair lovingly washed I confessed my inner thoughts. Instead of being frustrated by my indecision Tamara helped me decide on a new style. Side bangs it was with layers thrown in! Prior to cutting my hair Tamara set up my strand test using hair at the back of my crown. When all the magic was said and done with my haircut we reviewed the strand. Good news is I'm not going bald with future treatments. (And I like the color my hair resolved to!) Tip! If parking out front isn't available, head around back. I've been told there's a shared lot. I love this salon. I love the stylist, the great vibes and how they always look out for their community. I've been going to this salon for several years and am always leaving my stylist chair feeling like a million bucks! The owners are wonderful. They're always looking out for their clients. From charity events to client appreciation - they give back! When this whole yuck of COVID happened - they made the hard decision to close the salon to help flatten the curve before it was mandated - that is such a hard decision but they looked out at the best interest of their staff & customers. Now that they've re-opened I whole heartedly appreciate the stance they took to keep their staff and clients safe. Wearing a face mask for my safety...I'm down for that. Anyone who puts a bad review because they felt their life is more important then the entire community can go lick every door knob in the valley! Was a bit apprehensive to trust my hair to a new stylist, let alone a completely new salon, however I was greatly impressed. Typically I am uncomfortable and new salons especially the more "bougie" type-yet the kindness and warmth started in the garage where I happened to run into one the stylists on break who kindly helped me locate the front door of the salon. I was then greeted by an incredibly welcoming receptionist and ended up having a very pleasant experience with my new colorist overall. I am pleased Ruth the results and will definitely be returning. I'm moving to Phoenix soon and I was in town for a week visiting from the SF Bay Area, CA. I scoured yelp pages trying to pick a salon based on photos and reviews. Something struck me about Salon RO5, so I gave them a call. The girl who answered the phone was very friendly and recommended stylist Laura. I called on a Tuesday and was able to get an appointment on Thursday. Almost unheard of where I am moving from, and very much appreciated as I was only in town for the week. First impression upon visiting: Good music playing, beautiful space, friendly face to greet you at check-in. Laura listened to what I wanted (a trim and refreshing of the lob I previously had) and gave me a fabulous cut that left me feeling fresh and beautiful. She was very easy to talk to, and she gave me lots of suggestions for what I should see and do in the area when I am a local! I will definitely be back to see Laura again.
