Admiring the haircuts sported by a friend, I asked her where she gets her hair cut. Gladly, she directed me to Richard, who's been cutting her hair for about 10 years. Feeling in limbo from my last haircut experience, I decided to try this place. Having read others' reviews on Yelp beforehand, I was aware to ask for a first time client discount when I called to make the appointment in January. I was able to get in to see Richard within 2 days of calling. I had a 2pm appt. on a Thurs. and had no trouble finding a parking spot right outside the salon and cost to park at meter is minimal. Salon ambience feels special and includes a little barking dog, Birdie, who is harmless and skittish of clients coming and going. I arrived on time and was greeted by someone (and the little barking dog) who offered to take my coat. A moment later, I got to meet Richard. We had a good verbal exchange about the state of my "ha-fairs" and he made a suggestion of how to proceed and I gave him free reign. I think he finished with my hair cut and finishing touches within about 45-55 minutes and I was very pleased. A few days later, I washed my hair and dried/styled it for the first time and found that my bangs were a bit too long in general, and that one side of my bangs was quite bothersome in particular (given the wave pattern of my hair). A few weeks later, I finally made the call to schedule a bang trim (free) - and this improved my outlook greatly - I no longer felt as if I were looking out from underneath a ledge. All is good for now and I will likely return in another several weeks for another bang trim before going back for a 2nd full haircut. They sell the Vincent Longo cosmetic line as well as Kevin Murphy hair products and some other hair product line that has the most beautiful bottles. I bought a cut and color package from Groupon after reading all the great reviews. I could not have been happier! I met with Nell, who was fantastic. She was a great listener and gave me the perfect cut and color. It was my first haircut since having my baby, and I needed a low maintenance cut. She gave me a great cut that truly is wash and go - with a little scrunch of gel. She gave me the perfect cut for being a first time mom, and my friends told me that it was their favorite hairstyle that I have ever had. I am overdue for my next cut, but you better believe that I will be booking an appointment with Nell. Just moved to Minneapolis from San Francisco and was looking for an upscale full service salon. I have seen Jeannine twice for blond highlights and she did an amazing job. Not only is she professional and personable, she truly has the midas touch when it comes to hair. In getting to know her better, she also has a deep understanding of overall health and wellness and I always enjoy her recommendations for products and tips. Moreover, the proprietor is meticulous when it comes products and the ambience of the salon. As someone who has lived and traveled extensively, they carry many things I've not seen before, which I find refreshing. Jeanne is the best stylist I have ever encountered and I am so happy I discovered her! She always cuts my hair EXACTLY how I want it, she takes time to really listen to me, and she's honest with me. I have never been so happy with haircuts. I have moved 35 miles away from the salon, but I will continue to see Jeanne because we all know what a relief it is when you find a great stylist. This is a great example of why offers are on Groupon, because the price for the groupon is actually equivalent to the value of the service. I came in for a cut and highlights, I had Cristina and she was really nice but I didn't get the end product I was looking for at all. She also cut my hair dry and when I said I wanted shorter bangs, she said that would "look weird" and kept them longer. That's fine, I appreciate her advice I just think the wording could have been better. The guy at the front desk was also way too interested in whatever was on his computer screen. When I was checking out, he used my groupon and then turned back to his screen. I wanted to leave a tip and we he turned back to see me still there, he took my card and ran it, and said a very half-assed "thanks". Working in customer service for 7 years, I may just notice these thing more, and originally wanted to come back to Cristina because she was very nice overall and took her time and kept great conversation. That was enough for me to come back and see if we could get it right. But after checking out with the receptionist, I won't be back. So rude. read more

I loved this salon!! I've moved two years ago to Minneapolis, but have always waited until I make my trip back home to IL to get my hair done, so branching out is a big step for me! I went in with the color and cut I wanted in order to grow my hair out. Jeanne did my hair and the coloring was absolutely perfect. I love the natural look when it comes to color and she hit it spot on! I also wanted to get my hair layered to make it easier to grow out, but she suggested a different cut that would make it easier and look better when my hair does grow out! I love that she made suggestions to what she thought was best, because believe me, I am no hair expert! Besides the great customer service from not only Jeanne, but the entire staff, the salon is very unique. From the outside to the inside, the decor and theme was very fun and relaxing. All in all, I am now broken from my hair stylist 7 hours away, and have faith in Salon Rouge! read more

She is very creative and always offers great advice about what to do next with my hair. She is a perfectionist as well so my hair always turns out just right. Sadie colored and cut my hair, and although the price was reasonable I ended up going to HAUS salon in South Minneapolis to have my hair reversed to normal. Bad bad experience. This salon is really cute. I really really want to like it. The first time I got a haircut there from a woman who's name I did not catch. I called to see if there was an appointment that weekend and was told the only one was within an hour (cancellation?) so I rushed in only to sit and wait for 20 while the receptionist and one of the stylists (owner?) stood at the desk and gossiped about a customer. It was very unprofessional and made me feel super uncomfortable. When my stylist was ready for me we talked briefly about what style I was looking for, I told her I'm trying to grow my hair out from a pixie cut and wanted to clean up the shape a bit but avoid layers so it can grow to one length. She started cutting and I felt like she was taking too much off the top but I can't see much without my glasses. When it was finished I had what can only be described as a mullet. It was awful. The exact thing I asked her to avoid. I told her it was not what we had discussed and she offered to fix it but really the damage was done and I would just have to wait for it to grow out again. She was very nice about the whole thing but I left disappointed. I should not have returned after that but the salon is really close to my house and did I mention how cute it is? My second try was about 6 months later. This time I had an appointment with Richard who turned out to be the person I saw at the counter on my last experience. The hair cut was ok. I had wanted to make a bigger change but he seemed really distracted by salon business and I didn't want a repeat of my last experience so I settled for a trim. When I went to pay I was surprised that the price was significantly higher than I had been told on the phone. I told the dark haired man at the counter and he got very rude I was almost in tears as he was immediately confrontational. I said there was no way I was paying almost twice as much as I had been quoted and he called the stylist over only to discover I was being charged for a color and cut instead of just a cut. They fixed the charge and walked away as if nothing had happened. I honestly don't understand all the good reviews. The space is really nice and some of the stylists seem pretty nice but the receptionist and Richard are so rude I can't imagine having a good experience there. read more

Never in my life have I had a cut that was awesome when I left and got progressively better over time. Jeanne is a magician. I get a compliment every day on my hair and I have somehow turned into an infomercial in my love for Jeanne's work. And the best part? She somehow cut it so that I can do nothing to it (no blowdrying, straight ironing) and it still looks better than all of the other cuts I have had. read more

The front desk guy who answers the phone acts like he'd rather be anywhere else, doing anything else. He's short with customers and offers zero warmth over the phone or in person. There is dog hair all over the rugs (it's cool that they have a dog there, but if you're going to have hair all over the rugs, you should calm down the "we're too cool for you" attitude... because, gross). The salon décor is aesthetically pleasing, minus the dog poop on the floor and the bathroom door that doesn't lock, or latch properly. Honestly, I don't think anyone who works there actually enjoys it. If you're considering a groupon, don't. They treat you like a homeless person who walked in off the street. Which is super funny because salons use groupon to broaden their client base and get MORE customers. All-in-all... a hilarious experience that I will not soon repeat. read more

I am one of those Groupon folks. I called and got an appointment right away. I had a great experience from the moment I walked in and left the salon. I cut a good chunk of my hair and the stylist (Rachel) did an awesome job listening to what I wanted and checking in to see how I felt throughout the progress of cutting my hair. The hair cut was a little shorter than I requested and she even admitted to that but she did a good job styling it. Overall the whole experience was pretty smooth, fast and satisfying! read more

I have never had such a bad salon experience. I went to salon rouge because I had a groupon. I was excited to try a new salon and get my hair highlighted. After I explained to my stylist that I wanted highlights that were a Carmel color, I expected to see these highlights once my hair was done being foiled. However, I could not see any highlights at all! Basically my hair looked exactly the same as it did when I walked in there! The worst part is that the stylist was telling me that I was the one to blame because I was not clear enough with her about the Carmel colored highlights I had asked for! It was so awkward and I felt ganged up on by every employee in this small salon. Seriously, everyone who was working there came over and looked at my hardly noticeable "highlights" and claimed that those in fact were highlights! My stylist gave me major attitude when I asked her to redo the highlights. I had this service done months ago and did not want to talk bad about my experience, but after seeing salon rouge advertised on groupon again, I felt like I should let others know of the disrespect that I was shown. read more

Since moving to the twin cities over a year ago i've been a bit of 'goldioe locks and the right hair dresser'. I've been to quite a few salons in the past year, and no stylist was quite right. Until I came here. I used a groupon and saw Jessica - not only did a get a killer deal with the groupon I finally found my salon, and stylist. The salon is absolutely adorable - very quaint, yet quirky french decor. Jessica was just incredible. She took her time with the color and the cut and really listened to what I wanted - i've never had a stylist take such care with my hair before. Not only did she do a phenomenal job with my hair she also was incredibly personable and easy to talk to - definitely not forced or awkward at all. We talked about other ideas for what to do with my hair that i've wanted to try but haven't really trusted anyone yet enough to do so but i'll be back to see her and see what else she can do.
