Giving 1 star because as a long time customer, first time going for color, I was left shocked and…read moreinsulted. I prepared ahead of time, had a babysitter come, left work early, and came with photos. Right off the bat, Sierra seemed annoyed speaking with a coworker. I showed her my pictures of inspo, that did not seem to help. I repeated that I was looking for "sun-kissed" natural looking balayage to add dimension (something we had discussed in a previous session.) I told her that I trusted her, whether it be full or partial balayage (whatever it's called in this context). When I spoke, it seemed that we both repeated ourselves and the communication wasn't making sense, because the photos of the women had middle parts and no bangs. I said I was just using the photos for the color, I didn't have an exact photo of my hair cut and color. We kept repeating ourselves and I did not understand where the disconnect was, so I asked if it would be helpful if we brought another stylist over to help both of us understand what the other person wasn't understanding. She seemed offended by that, and didn't ask anyone else to see what the issue was that was unable to be understood. I said I trusted her, just use the photos as guide, just not as blonde as the highlights in the right but I like the placement of both. We spoke for a good 15 minutes it seemed like before she said "ok, I think I got it, I'll go mix up your color." When she walked away I did not understand why she was saying "I do all my consultations like this", acting like I was coming at her? I never raised my voice, I repeated that I trusted her, used no foul language, like I genuinely didn't understand what the issue was. 10 minutes later, she comes back in a completely different demeanor and was like "I don't feel comfortable doing your hair. It felt like we were arguing." And I thought to myself, "is she serious right now?" I can understand someone being sensitive, I am sensitive myself, but we were most certainly not arguing. So without making a scene, I picked up my stuff, and walked out of the salon in shock. I didn't feel like what had happened to me was right. I called the salon after I left and asked to speak to the Salon manager Melissa. She answered and said a whole spiel of the salon industry and how stylists can refuse service if they don't feel comfortable. She seemed annoyed, because as she was speaking she halfway said "hold on, let me finish" when I wasn't speaking at all- I had just been listening to her. I told her I understand that, but I didn't do anything. She said that the photos I provided to sierra were "wildly different", and she couldn't color my hair because she didn't feel comfortable. So what does Yelp think? Do you think these photos are unreasonable requests, and look wildly different? I have recommended Swank to friends and family in the past, but I will make sure to notify them of this absolutely horrific encounter from a mother who simply wanted some "me" time and to look summer ready. I'm astounded.

I even converted my mother, so to speak, and now she comes here on a regular basis to get her hair styled and colored. I always make appointments with Richard, who knows exactly how to style hair as curly and thick as mine. He's pretty darn brilliant - several times he's seen that what I wanted out of my appointment wasn't necessarily the best look for me, so we find a happy medium. And I admit, I always look good when he's done! I can't say I regret a single haircut I've ever had here, even if the style was more Richard's idea than mine. What can I say? The dude knows what he's doing! There's a ton of services offered here that I admittedly don't use because I've never felt the need to use them, but I can honestly say based on the wonderful service I've experienced here during the 5+ years I've been coming to Salon Beleza that I recommend anyone who IS interested check out their deals on waxes, facials, nailwork and so forth. Wow...everyone was so compassionate. They did an excellent job calming me down, working each small piece of hair to get it out of the curling iron, and then styling my hair. I had been to Philip Pelusi before and I wasn't wild about the service. I was also concerned about cost. In addition, I had not had much luck with hair stylists so I was unsure. As it turned out, Philip Pelusi ended up being less expensive than the other hair stylist I was going to and that place was not as high end as Philip Pelusi. The service I received was excellent. I saw Shannon and I am happy to say that I have found my hair stylist. I had been trying to go blonder for a while. I had two different stylists make me a brown, brassy blonde and another stylist thought I looked better darker. So after much past frustration, I was elated when Shannon actually WORKED with me. She listened to my concerns and wants for my hair and came up with a plan. Not only did she make me lighter but she discussed my options if I wanted to go lighter beyond that. She also suggested getting some length off due to the color variation in my ends due to past hair colors I had. I never thought of getting length off, but I am so glad she made the suggestion, I love it!!! For the first time ever, I felt like I received the true hair salon treatment. We discussed what I wanted to do and then I was consulted for a decent period of time on my options. I would definitely reccommend giving them a try, great service for a reasonable price!!! I felt like I got a half a haircut and paid full price. I even had to specifically make her go back and do SOMETHING with the side swooping bangs I wanted. She put no layer or texture to them... just cut them with a hard edge. I went home and immediately cut them myself. This is probably a great salon for people who live in the area and need a simple service done. I just don't see myself returning. NOTE: I did tell them via email about my concerns. Got a call that day, which was awesome of them. The owners had the employee working call me. Props to the owners for that! Unfortunately the call I received was sort of an apology and it's also not our fault because you have lots of hair type of voicemail. It's already super uncomfortable to complain to a salon. My hair was about 6 inches past my shoulders and I asked for it to be right to my shoulder with bangs and a few layers. I explained that I wear my hair up in a ponytail almost daily, so it must still fit into a ponytail. After I was told that it was a super easy hair style, it was off to get started. When she was done, my bangs were an inch above my eyebrows (Not in style anywhere). My hair was cut into a blunt, very short bob, and it was parted in the center (when I always part it to the side and the picture shown had it parted on the side). It still does not fit into the tiniest of ponytails, seven weeks later. At 57, I can say I honestly have never cried after getting my hair cut before, but this time, I cried for days. My husband was furious and kept making remarks about how awful my hair looked and he wanted to go and speak to her. But that wouldn't make may hair look better, so why bother. My sister couldn't stop laughing at me, and I have been trying to avoid the mirror for almost two months now. I actually believe this woman did her best job, it is just that her best job is terrible. On top of that she said some very offensive things and derogatory towards others. She insisted she was a Christian, but continued to put other groups of people down. Not to be considered Christian behavior. Feeling like she may be losing her thought process a bit. It became clear she is hard of hearing, a bigot, lousy at cutting hair and I believe the early stages of dementia may be at play. I am not saying this to be mean, I just feel others who are new to this establishment need to know what to expect. My business is not going to make a difference in her life, but she has made a major impact on my life. I am hoping by the spring to be able to get my hair cut again once, clearly somewhere else. I literally hate this haircut so much. I would shave my head but that would only make it take that much longer to get back to where I wanted to be.
