My boss brought these sandwiches in for a special treat. I have to say their sandwich menu is quite creative with many delicious options. After quite some time I settled on the Sal's Delight sandwich. I did not regret that! I only ate half for lunch, as you can see it came absolutely stuffed! The flavor was great. So, the only problem with this place is that it moved closer to my house and I can't help but want to stop in multiple times a week. Their sandwiches are the best out there, no exaggeration. They're huge, delicious, reasonably priced, and have amazing ingredients. My favorite specialty sandwiches on the menu are the "Touch of Europe" and the "Massapequa Rueben." The Touch of Europe, which I enjoyed today, has prosciutto, Brie, field greens, sun dried tomatoes, and oil and vinegar. I opt to take off the tomatoes and add fresh apple slices instead. It's pretty amazing. The portions of each ingredient (the prosciutto, in particular) is huge. The price is $7.95 and you'll have enough for 2 days. The Massapequa Rueben is pastrami, cheddar, bacon, and Russian dressing on a toasted hero and it, too, is massive and delicious. Also a little less than $8 in price. Why go anywhere else for a great sandwich? Their potato salad is the best I've ever had. Their butcher area is great, too. Fair prices and top quality. Best market in the area! read more

Probably won't be going back there anymore .. the food is high quality but the prices with what they give you is insane. I got two sandwiches on a roll ham and cheese and then turkey avocado cheese cost me $23 bucks which is crazy . I understand covid ran prices up and taxes are higher to make a business but ur gauging ur customers . My wife and I decided to stop in while we were visiting a friend locally. We had plans to go out but decided to cook in so we found Sals while out scouting. How can you go wrong with an Italian butcher shop? From the minute we walked in it brought me back to my childhood memories. The staff was very nice and the selection of steaks and food was amazing. We got some chicken, a few steaks and sausage. These fresh cuts of meat and poultry taste like were bathe in the tears of Vatican Nuns. We asked for cooking recommendations and it was spot one. Came for a sandwich and Sal's has a pretty long list of options. Went for the "wow" sandwich: Roast beef, fresh mozz, horseradish sauce on garlic bread. Asked for the sauce on the side because I find sometimes that horseradish can be overpowering. They give you a lot of sauce on the side btw! On a Saturday early afternoon the wait to be helped was long... a little too long. So next time I would probably call an order in and then come pick it up. They make their own bread which is nice and it's pretty good. I got my sandwich hot and sadly I wish I didn't because it was slightly greasy and the roast beef was overcooked. I like roast beef to be pink/red so next time I would get it cold. The mozzarella and garlic bread was nice and fresh. Horseradish sauce was very yummy and definitely added more flavor to the sandwich. I also tried the Reuben, but i'm not the biggest fan of them. It was ok. Overall I just think this place is alright. There's cold salads, cakes, soups and a butcher in the back. They also have groceries on shelves in fridges and sometimes have better prices/items than the local grocery store. I went today and ordered 3 sandwiches from their deli. Two came out fine. They absolutely screwed mine up. I asked for sweet cappicola and I got hot. I cannot eat spicy foods. I asked for fresh mozzarella, first they forgot it then they gave me that gross boars head mozzarella. I asked for balsamic and olive oil and I got Italian dressing. If you DONT HAVE WHAT I WANT, TELL ME! I would have ordered something else. Waste of money right into the garbage. Go somewhere else. It also took 20 minutes to make 3 sandwiches. The minute you walk in to sals the amazing smell is overwhelming in the best way. They have so many sandwiches to choose from and they all sound so delicious. I haven't bought anything from the butcher station yet but when I need to I will def give it a try. Their selection of groceries is also impressive for a market like sals. I live close by so when I was out of sesame oil it was sals to the rescue! Theres a decent selection of chips, pasta, salsas, sauces, oils, fresh veggies, and spices to choose from and they also carry gluten free and healthier items. Lastly, the homemade desserts will also have me back soon to try. They look delicious. The only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is I found it a little pricey for sandwiches. I love local butcher shops. I will often seek them out. I like doing business with the "mom and pops" of Long Island. I shop at Sal's when ever I'm looking for a special cut of beef or pork or something that you can't find in the local supermarket. I love that they carry Berkshire pork. The breed does so well for BBQ ribs and slow smoked pulled pork. I also love being able to order bacon sliced to order. :) My only personal conflict is I just can't get past the fact that as a HACCP food safety manager, that this place operates as it does. Cutting up beef and chicken on the same block, and not sanitizing in between? Using wood cutting boards and wood handled knives? It seems crazy to me. Walked in Sal's at 5pm this evening... wanted to order a hero, asked if they had any "good firm Italian bread" that's what makes a sandwich for me.. the four people working the front of the store didn't seem to speak or understand English too well and my Spanish is rusty. The best bread they could offer was little firmer than a hotdog bun.. I had to stop the guy from making it as soon as he cut it open. Their Reuben sandwich is always a solid choice and is stuffed with meat and stays together when you eat it. I also got the split pea soup with Ham to try which was good. The quality of their meats they sell in the butcher section are very good, but very expensive. Probably better off going to Uncle G's down the road. Service can be slow so be prepared to wait, but during the week they do have a good amount of workers taking orders. Sals' remains one of the last standing full-service prime butcher shops on Long Island, let alone in the country. Meaning, they hang and age all their own beef, giving them the ability to butcher their meat as they please, using some of the best old world techniques. One of the crazy, amazing things I learned while talking to the shop owner, Denis, who is mistakenly called Sal (his father) on a regular basis.. is that the deli at Sals' uses all meat cut from the butcher in the shop itself. No other deli does this. Usually what they do is get Boars' Head or something equally less expensive, but they obviously value quality there at Sal's which is so nice to see in this day and age. So I advise: go get yourself a rib roast from the meat counter for your next soiree, it's a touch pricey but completely worth it, and you won't regret it. If that doesn't strike your fancy treat yourself to a porterhouse steak, equally incredible. Grab a roast beef sandwich from the deli (people come from far and wide just to get their hands on one) ...and don't forget a tee shirt to prove you've been there, just to let everyone know you know what's up. On the way out wave goodbye to Denis who will likely be standing behind the butcher-block in the back right corner and call him by his correct name so your friends think you're in the in crowd. I have called in sandwiches to pick up, many times as it takes a while to make the sandwiches there. Every single time I call a sandwich in and come in 30 minutes later (I wait even longer than they tell me because I know it's a little slow) they haven't even started making my sandwich yet. Every single time. What's the point of calling in a sandwich for you to START making it when I get there. Owners and management sucks. I started going here 2 months ago. Service is very slow but I like the food enough to tolerate. I try to call in advance but most of the time they don't pick up the phone. I Ordered a bacon egg and cheese sandwich and a BLT today. Totally forgot about me considering they have 8-10 people working. Waited literally for 45 mins and just left quietly after 5 customers got their orders before me, customers that walked in much much later than I did . The process is garbage. I feel bad for the workers. There is no structure and order. Every time someone's order is ready the workers have to ask customers one by one if the order is theirs. How about putting a name with the order from the get go to be more efficient. These guys suck and waisted almost an hr of my life. I'm not one to complain but this has happened on more than one occasion. Denis you suck and dont know how to run the show. Unorganized and untrained staff.
