Our waitress did not know what came with the meal (we ordered carnitas / beef enchilladas and asked if they come with anything else because their menu doesn't say so but she did not know and didn't even offer to ask -- I had to ask her to ask!). She also didn't offer to refill anything (drinks, chips, dip) unless you ask for them. Anyway, carnitas had a good flavor. They pull it rather than serve it in bite sizes. Let's start off the chips and bean dip was good. So that's the one star. However once it comes down to the food the would be a no for me. The food was overly bland with a lot of vegetables instead of meat. The burger my daughter got from the kids menu wasn't cooked all the way. It was gross my poor kid spit it out. We had a wonderful visit! We arrived right at 11 and were seated immediately. We had a large booth for 3 adults and 3 kids. Our server quickly came to our table to get our drinks order and we added a bowl of guacamole. The salsa bar was full and each salsa had its own lid. We ordered 2 cheeseburger kids meals, a steak taco salad and Jose cuervo fajitas for 2. The food came out quickly and the poured the jose cuervo on the fajita meat and lit it on fire in front of us. Amazing food! We are from out of town and saw this on our way home. I ordered the ACP but with steak instead of chicken and it was so good. The steak was super flavorful and nicely cooked. The rest of my group got the Mexico City Tacos, cheese quesadilla, and cheese enchiladas. My sister described the cheese quesadilla as a 5 star and that it was way better than ours at home. This was a horrible experience. I ordered online for my husband to pick up and they didn't give him the full order. Not a problem, I'll call and get a refund, mistakes happen...No. The manager started blaming equipment and then the website and whatever he possibly could blame, no apology was ever given. THEN instead of just refunding me for the meal I didn't get now he's telling me the only way to get a refund is to jump through hoops to call whatever company is running HIS website. They refused to refund the meal not received. This is absolutely the best Mexican restaurant in Clayton, NC. Entrees are delicious and distinguishable. At some Mexican restaurants, everything tastes the same. Not here. Pure deliciousness. I love Salsa Azteca! One of the few places that doesn't serve that awful, salty fake cheese. Their salsa/hot sauce bar is immaculate and they have some really delicious takes on the normal salsas. I always get the taquitos rancheros, which are phenomenal, but they never serve it the same way twice. Sometimes it comes with rice and beans, sometimes it doesn't. Wishing there was more consistency in regards to what comes with the order, but the taste is always good. read more

This review only applies to order fulfillment for delivery as that is my only experience with this restaurant. We live far enough away from the little town of Clayton that we don't have many choices wrt GrubHub, DoorDash or UberEats so we were thrilled that Salsa Azteca is partnered up with some (if not all) of those services. The food that we have ordered & had delivered has been pretty good, some items better than others (avoid fish as an option for delivery). Absolutely no issues. In fact, we LOVE the creamy lime salsa and always order the large portion, just to have in the frig. That is, in fact, the reason I am writing a review (since feedback to GrubHub doesn't do any good). I ordered several items today and spent a fair amount of money since there are so many fees (delivery, tax, random fee, and good sized tip). Once again, my order was missing something, in this case it was the large size creamy lime and, as always, they did not include the tiny free salsas (I requested the pumpkin & lime...both yum when you can actually get them included in the order...). So...absolutely NO salsas in the bag. The food was ok, no issue. The guacamole could use more avocado and less pico in it but that issue would not prompt a less than positive review from me. What prompts a less than 5 star review is the CONSISTENTLY MISSING salsas from my orders. Today actually prompted a call to Grubhub and a refund of my $$. My husband and I have become regulars. We love the food and the customer service. They are always very welcoming and happy to see us. I brought my sister here with her kids and they loved it too. The portion sizes and priceare fair. The only thing we don't like is their cheese dip and guacamole. The cheese dip is always really runny and watery. This place opened not too long ago and is kind of hidden from the business highway, but it definitely worth going to. My favorite Mexican place in Clayton. I've been going at least once a week since I was told about this place. They have really good chips and the best salsa, the pumpkin and the lime are my favorite. The bean dip is really good also. I usually get the ACP or the chicken, shrimp, and steak fajitas. Love when they bring out those sizzling fajitas. They have a lot of options, and I doubt you can go wrong with anything from the menu. Tried this place for the first time. It has a sister business in a neighboring town. It's an odd set up for a restaurant. The building used to be a night club. When you enter you see the bar. Also where the sanitation grade of 93 was posted. My husband convinced me to try it anyway. They have a salsa bar and serve you hot bean dip. Both are excellent. The service was slllloooooowwwww. It did appear there were not fully staffed. The tea was also good. Had some 3 enchiladas special. It was good and fine I guess, how ever it's served on a sizzling hot skillet that continued too cook my food and burned it to the plate. I did enjoy the salsa bar,, especially the spicy pumpkin salsa. If they can bring their grade up I'll try them again. read more

The service here is good and the people are very nice. The salsa bar is a refreshing experience. The salsa variety have a nice kick, but the salsa choices were too watery for my taste. They provide a bean dip at the table which is new for me. Our entrees were carne asada and sizzling enchilada. The sizzling enchilada was good and rice was really good, but the guacamole salad on both dishes felt a bit old. The guacamole looked and tasted like it was sitting out for a while and had oxidized. A bit more lime may have done the trick with the presentation. I don't recommend the carne asada. The star of the dish was a very chewy, tough and dry piece of steak that was lukewarm. It felt like a piece of steak that was tossed into the microwave just before serving. The horchata was very watered down. There wasn't much of the rice taste. The sweet tea, even with half and half was still very sweet. Will try this place again for lunch and see if the quality differs. Will update my review then. read more

I also ordered a frozen margarita which was not what I was expecting from a Mexican restaurant. It reminded me of a cheap margarita mix that was watered down. We came in at 545 PM on a Friday night and the place had only 3 tables occupied. We started with the chips and salsa bar, which was nothing to rave about. The salsa had either bland or spicy flavors - Very little flavor. The other writer was right about the cheese sauce - it was runny. I ordered the shrimp enchiladas ( came with rice), which was very bland enchiladas and little sauce or cheese on top . The shrimp were on the small side and no seasoning in the enchiladas. I ended up adding more salsa from the salsa bar (lol) to give it some spice. Overall, service was good but food was nothing special. We went on a Wednesday night and they have a very entertaining live singer. It was our first time. The service was great. Everyone was friendly and nice. The chips come with a really good bean dip. And they have a salsa bar with 6-8 varieties of salsa. My husband got a burrito with shredded beef which was delicious. I got a burrito with carnitas meat and a special sauce that I forgot what it's called. It was also really good. My mother in law got something with 3 different taquitos. All the entreees were delicious and came with rice and shredded lettuce with sour cream. The portions were huge and reasonably priced! We can't wait to go back! read more

From the 8 different salsas available to the daily specials, this place stands out. Prices are definitely reasonable for the portions given and the wait staff keeps the chips and dip coming even as you eat the entree.
