My best friend took me here and I went back a few weeks after with my boyfriend for his first time too lol To be honest, I was judging this place and thinking it wasn't going to be good based off the name and how it looked. It was giving American style tacos, a fancier taco bell vibe. I take everything back! Nothing wrong with American style tacos so don't come for me because I will eat those too occasionally! But I will always go for authentic tacos. BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE. They offer 2 options! You can either get it American style or authentic lol this place is perfect for any taco lover. Here is the Google definition in case anyone was wondering. American style taco" typically features a hard shell, ground beef, lettuce, cheese, and often flour tortillas, while an "authentic taco" is usually made with soft corn tortillas, a variety of meat options beyond just ground beef, and simpler toppings like onions, cilantro, lime, and salsa. The birria tacos are already a favorite. That's my boyfriend's go to now. They give you 2 types of salsas and a green guacamole sauce as well which is my favorite. You also get a big cup of the consommé (juice/broth) to dip it in. I also have tried the green enchiladas and I was able to get steak as a substitute but there was an upcharge. I think it was either $2 or $3. That was delicious too along with the beans and rice. The inside is clean and aesthetically pleasing. I wasn't sure if we had to go up to the front to pick up our own food since it's a seat yourself and no host or waiters but they brought out our food to us every time and everyone has been so friendly there. The only thing I wasn't a fan of was their horchata. It wasnt baddd but it's definitely different to me. All I can say is, I think if you like the Klass horchata (mix drink bag that you buy from the store to make at home, just add water lol) then you'll probably like it. This place is perfect for me and my best friend especially because she likes American style tacos and I prefer authentic tacos and we both enjoyed our meal at the same restaurant :) Its a win win. read more

Too many inconsistencies, the food is good sometimes and sometimes it is trash and you don't get what you paid for. Save yourself the trouble and go to the Salsa Verde in Capentersville - they are way more consistent. The chef on Thursday's seems to cook diff than the chef on other days at the St Charles location. Menu and packaging changed, not in a good way. The chips are now stale with barely half the portion of their previous chips, the tacos are sloppily packaged in soggy paper, the queso isn't as fresh or as flavorful. Luckily it doesn't seem like they changed their infamous salsa verde sauce but all the other changes are a shame. After reading some negative reviews I felt a bit worried about my experience but I had no issues at all. We walked in and ordered at the counter and then they brought out food to our table shortly afterwards. Service is very quick and friendly. I go through the drive through tonight to get some frozen Margaritas to bring to a friends house for them to try. (New business for you I may add) and I'm told they only do regular to go margaritas no frozen. I asked her since when? She tells me a few days ago? I call bull crap! I don't know if this a real policy you came up with or if she didn't want to make them. Whichever you have lost my business. Sandi and I decided to give this fast food Mexican restaurant a try so we stopped in on a Sunday evening for dinner. We both decided on the taco salad. I chose the shredded chicken version; Sandi went for the beef model. They had more cooks than they had wait people. The counter person was doing double duty taking windows orders. She was friendly and helpful but spread too thin. Once we ordered the food we received the order rather quickly. I especially enjoyed the chicken taco salad after tasting my wife's beef salad. We weren't too sure what to do with the dishes. They didn't seem to have too much of a dessert selection. I've been to Salsa Street a few times over the years. I love that it's an independent taco restaurant. I love that when you can dine in, they have a salsa bar. There are plenty of salsas for all palates. I've done taco Tuesday here, I'm not much of a meat eater, but my husband says the steak tacos are definitely worth the price. I typically stick to vegetarian dishes. My favorite is the tosdada. I don't go for the grilled veggie dishes, more the bean and avocado dishes. The avocado tostadas are great. You get a lot of avocado, not guacamole, on top. I think they could use salt to pullout the flavor, also, raw onion would add a lot of flavor. My most recent trip was just an avocado tostada. The tortilla, which should be crispy, since it's fried, was soggy. That stunk since the crunchy and crispy texture makes a tostada for me. Again, it needed salt, either on the chip or on top. I will go back when I'm in the area, but Salsa Street is better enjoyed inside when you can season your food and add some flavor from the salsa bar. read more

We are now sitting outside and enjoying not only delicious guacamole and chips, rice water and Tamarind drink, but we also have the best treat ever: vegetarian and chorizo enchiladas and tacos coming! A few years ago, it would have been unimaginable that a Mexican restaurant of this type would have labeled vegan options. But here we are and thank god at that. Salsa Verde doesn't have many vegan options (only 2 that don't require modification) but the vegan chorizo taco ($3) is cheap, delicious and nicely done. I really liked their soyrizo. The guacamole ($7) didn't impress, though, and felt under-salted and under-limed. It looked fresh but tasted like something you'd get out of a plastic carton at Jewel. I hope Salsa Verde will keep expanding their vegan options. As it stands, if you're looking for other vegan-friendly Mexican food in the west suburbs, check out Totopos in Naperville. read more

Been to this location a few times, usually right before open (So manager/owner was there and you would expect the food to be fresh). Service is ok, but I don't feel welcome here like I tend to feel at most Mexican restaurants in general. Salsa has great flavor which is good considering it's the namesake of the business. The rest of the menu leaves a lot to be desired. Meat is usually lacking in flavor and the rice and beans you get from the meals are really subpar (especially the rice, why does it always look like it was microwaved in a cup?). Fortunately for them the salsa was their saving grace, but I'll consider a different Mexican restaurant next time I'm craving some tacos or burritos. I ordered the tacos al pastor and chorizo; there could've been more meat. Compared to my friend's shredded chicken taco, I felt gypped on the meat on mine. I prefer the elote at Altiro Latin Fusion; the flavor is brighter and the kernels have better texture/crunch. Overall, the Salsa Verde elote had good savory flavor but a little soggy. I've been to the Yorkville and Oswego locations. Food tastes the same, but I prefer Oswego (former Panera) since it's closest to my house and it's the biggest/brightest. read more

I'm very conflicted about this review. My wife loved her tacos al pastor, and we both agreed the beans and rice were very good. The sauces that came with the food were good as well and varied in flavor. My problem with the meal was my burrito. I began to eat it and it was all steak with a little bit of rice and veg. Just the way I like it. After I got half way through, it changed to all rice and veg. with almost not steak. It was like they forgot which way to wrap the burrito. -100 stars if possible... My husband and I picked up food tonight 2/22/22 around 6pm. When we got home I noticed my sides of cheese had mold on them. I contacted the restaurant and the lady who answered told me I had to bring back my food for a refund. I let her know I have a 4 month old and I'm not driving back food for a refund when it had mold on it. She put me on hold and came back and said she check the other food and only the cheese has mold so she can give me a partial refund unless I wanted to bring it all back. She said I could bring it back another day if today was to hard. I explained I wasn't saving molded food in my fridge to bring it back to her. I told her I have pictures I can send and told her I wouldn't trust eating any of the other food anyways. If they don't know how to properly store cheese, who knows what else is old in the restaurant. She pretty much told me that's all she can do so I let her know that this is a serious situation and you can get people very sick. This place is an absolute joke! $40 Buicks for 2 burritos and when you add salsa, cheese, and guacamole to your burrito...they put it on the side!?? Who does that?? So I called them to ask why and they messed up and they wouldn't take responsibility. So I asked, can you make two burritos the correct way with these ingredients in ...and he said we'd have to bring these burritos back, which I can't because we already started eating them! First time visiting since the pandemic and things have changed a bit. But quality and quantity was very good.

I chose to try Salsa Verde for Cinco De Mayo last May. The staff was polite and the menu options were plentiful. However, I was very disappointed with the food. I love Mexican food that embraces the spices and sauces used in most traditional Mexican restaurants. I ordered Arroz Con Pollo which usually comes lathered with queso blanco. What I received was a very dry plate with little sauce cups on the side. These sauce cups were not nearly enough to make the dish what it is supposed to be. The chicken and rice were extremely dry and lacked flavor. Overall it was a negative experience and I will not be returning to this restaurant. read more
