My friend and I stopped by Salsas 4 Taqueria for some tacos. I've never been here before, but they are popular in the area. The inside walls are super colorful, even the ceiling is vibrant red. This is more of a pick up place, despite that they still have adequate seating available. Their menu is large with salads, soups, enchiladas, tacos, burritos and more. My friend got an order of three tacos off their specials menu. They featured jack cheese, skirted steak, guacamole with corn and cilantro. I got two pork belly tacos with red onion and cilantro. These tacos are super fresh, flavorful and filling! Granted my friend's order was a lot more filling, I was also happy with my smaller portion. I appreciate them, since they are primarily a take out spot, they still served us in proper dishware, none of that disposable nonsense. We also received complimentary chips and salsa. The only complaint I have is that their drink machine was down. They have some very tasty Mexican drinks for sale, but they are very sweet. At Salsas 4 Taqueria I was very pleased with their service and their very fresh assortment of tacos. I will be back to try more. read more

This taco spot is listed in my top 3 favorites in CT. Every time I dine here or order takeout, they never disappoint. Always on point, everything tastes authentic, I love it! My go to tacos are, Ribeye steak, Pork Belly, Baja Fish, Shrimp tempura, El Pastor. I recently tried their ceviche tostado and I would say it's pretty darn good, its not fishy at all. If you dine in, they do give you complimentary chips and salsa that they bring out to your table. They also have Mexican soda, Tres Leches, Flan cake, Churros. We have previously dined at 2 other Salsas' restaurants, but this was our first visit to this location. The original Salsas was a small restaurant in Southington that subsequently relocated withing town to larger quarters. The original was far better than the newer ones as my wife and I have unfortunately discovered on subsequent visits to both the relocated restaurant and a sibling. My wife and I each ordered a pair of al pastor tacos for lunch which included complimentary chips and 2 salsas. I was starving but didn't want anything heavy to Eat so decided to stop In . I got 2 freshly made tacos for 5.00! They were not spicy of a huge portion , which was perfect and so flavorful. I ordered, pork belly and Carnita Tacos. One had pineapple in it which I really enjoyed, it was toped with cilantro and a side of salsa and chips and guacamole. My go-to place for takeout tacos. Some of our favorites are the Al pastor, JR's special taco, carne asada, Baja fish and shrimp tacos. The fried tacos are best when you eat there. I also love the tacos arrachera which is usually a special. Service is quick, usually ready or getting packed when I arrive. The place is small but has a few tables if you want to eat there. After living in this area for over 4 years I finally made it to Salsas 4 Taqueria! We were greeted by the friendly staff and ate our dinner on site but I can see take out being a very easy process as well! We ordered Al pastor tacos and their birria tacos. Both were delicious! If you are craving tacos, look no more!! These were some of the best tacos I've had in a LONG time, possibly ever in Connecticut. I came right during peak dinner hour on a Wednesday and I was pleasantly surprised that there was only 1 other person in front of me in line (I assume they are more of a takeout place). I ordered 4 tacos - 2 barbacoa and 2 asada. They came out pretty quick, and came with 3 different types of sauce, that were all delicious. The meat was super flavorful, and a generous portion was served on them. All the toppings tasted super fresh as well. Prices were also SUPER reasonable. The word "hidden gem" is throw around often in the foodie world. So often enough, that it's almost annoying when people use it because when you go to the business's Yelp page they have 10,000+ reviews. Lol. Well, it's obviously not hidden very well is it? Anyway, Salsas 4 Taqueria IS a hidden gem, but hidden in plain sight... Atmosphere/Appearance: Set right in a old-looking plaza with a state credit union, a regular bank and a learning center of sorts is this gem. The outside just doesn't look like much and the sign isn't too elaborate either. There is parking out front of course since it's in a plaza so there's nothing to worry about. Once inside it's just like a traditional Mexican spot. Dimly lit, colorful walls painted with the colors of the Mexican flag, cheap wooden chairs and exposed brick. It's exactly what you want to see from a place like this. Service: I've never eaten inside the restaurant because I always order online. This place doesn't even have its own website because they don't need it. You can order online through various services, but I personally go through Yelp. So I just go in, give my name and my order is usually ready. Food: So on their menu is something I've never seen before called a tlayuda. It's a handmade dish in traditional Oaxacan cuisine, consisting of a large, thin, crunchy, partially fried or toasted tortilla covered with a spread of refried beans, asiento (unrefined pork lard), lettuce or cabbage, avocado, meat (usually shredded chicken, beef tenderloin or pork), Oaxaca cheese, and salsa. Tlayudas are typical of Oaxaca and receive their name thanks to the particular texture of the tortilla. Unlike a soft tortilla, like those we usually see at taco stands or in the store, tlayudas are usually larger, heavier, and more consistent than a soft tortilla. They offer 4 types and I went with the Guelaquetza Tlayuda which is protein heavy filled with carne asada, chorizo, and al pastor. This this is SO DENSE and so delicious! I'm 5'9", 260 pounds and I could only eat half of this thing. It was so filling and I LOVED IT. It's the only thing I've ever eaten from here. Lol. Value: The Guelaquetza Tlayuda is $18.00 and 100% worth it. Period. I loved this place! It's nearby to where I live so I plan on paying this place many more visits in the near future! read more

For lunch, I had a Torta De Milanesa. This was my first torta from Salsas 4. If you don't know (and if you do), a torta is a super-charged Mexican style sandwich. The Milanesa refers to breaded chicken. Salsas 4 serves their Tortas on pressed bread that makes the outer crust ridged and crispy-crusty. The Torta fillings included oozy Oaxaca cheese, red onions, beans, tangy pickled jalapeños, tomatoes, mayo and avocado. Great contrasting flavors and textures. An awesome Torta! If you don't like fried breaded chicken, I hope you're feeling OK. But in any event, you can order a torta with things such as chorizo, carne asada, ham, shaved steak, Chile Relleno and marinated pork. Tortas! Stick another menu item on the resume Salsas 4. You need to come here for you next Mexican fix! This place is authentic Mexican food! It felt like a home cooked meal. Everything is fresh made to order. The service and staff is excellent. Aware of the customers and was very friendly. I could of ordered the whole menu. Everything smelled so good and I wanted it all. I ordered their chicken empanadas and it was hot, cheesy goodness and nicely dressed with cheese and fresh toppings! I ordered a steak burrito but bowl style. We stepped into to this bright and colorful establishment after grocery shopping. I was pleasantly surprised at how big my California Burrito was. It was huge! I added grilled onions to it which gave it the flavor pop I was looking for. You can add in items to your burrito. My hubby ordered the same thing in a form of a bowl. It was filling and flavorful. Ordered through via Doordash and was really happy with my chicken torta, Fiesta salad and kids cheese quesdilla. You can't alter anything on the dishes via Doordash but everything tasted good and came hot and fresh. The salad had thily sliced orange colored tortilla strips which is different than how you usually see them in packaged salads or at family restaurants. Despite what I have heard I did not enjoy this place. I ordered the Birria Tacos. They were dry and flavorless. Mine tasted like a big wad of greasy flavorless cheese. I literally had to saturate it in whatever I could to choke it down. I also don't like cheese that won't melt all of the way.... So I opened it up and picked it off. I also ordered chips and salsa which was very over priced. She said it would be free if I was staying to eat. I thought that was kinda a jip considering they are so pricey. I asked her to take the chips off and only charge me for the salsa but on review of my receipt... it was still there $2.50 worth of chips that should have been free in the first place. Quick and easy service, AMAZING food! I only tried three kinds of tacos here -- definitely recommend the pork belly tacos, they are out of this world! The al pastor was delicious too. Apparently we also got chorizo tacos although I thought we'd ordered carnitas -- anyway, they were all delicious. But the pork belly tacos are definitely a must-order. Very convenient location right on the Berlin Turnpike. It's kind of easy to drive by the location however. Open concept kitchen and prepared fresh with order. Modest dining area with help yourself service. Prices are extremely reasonable. Burritos are about $10-$14. Which is super economic. The tacos are $2.50 and up. Can't beat it. I am sad to be writing this review. We have been frequenting Salsa4 since they hoped up in Newington and have always been happy with the food. A few weeks ago we called in an order of the flautas meal. They were a bit burnt on the edges, the rice which usually has good flavor was very bland. The other order was the Birria tacos they did not taste good at all, even the sauce that it comes with was really watery and flavorless. I chalked it up to maybe someone new made that batch. I just order the same exact order tonight A few weeks later and it was exactly the same, it was very disappointing. read more

A wonderful new fast casual Mexican restaurant has just opened up on the Berlin Turnpike and it is not only affordable but delicious. It has your standard "Mexican" fare of tacos, but burritos, tortas, and etc BUT they also have special menu items with pork belly and red snapper. All the dishes are fesshly prepared and if yiu done in they have a cute little salsa bar available. They also have several salsas available for purchase in a variety of sizes that come with perfect Salted tortilla chips. Mark and I ordered 3 tacos (chicken, pork belly and shrimp) all of which come on corn tortillas and a side of mango salsa. I would have liked a bit more filling in each taco but the entire meal (and chips) was the perfect amount for lunch. Will definitely be back to try some of their other menu options read more
