With plenty of Mexican options around Clinton, my son's favorite is Salsa's--and I can see why he enjoys it. My entrée of burrito, taco, and enchilada was flavorful and satisfying. That said, dining Mexican is about the full experience, and Salsa's fell short for me. The complimentary chips were thick and cold--I much prefer them thin, crisp, and ideally warm when they hit the table. The salsa itself was disappointing too: thick, plain, and more like tomato sauce than the fresh, zesty dip I was hoping for. Service also had a hiccup--I was charged for extra pico and sour cream that never arrived. Not the end of the world, but frustrating nonetheless. All in all, while my meal was tasty and my son enjoyed his birthday, I can't say I had the complete Mexican dining experience I look forward to. I'll give Salsa's another shot next year, but for now, it's not at the top of my list. read more

Eating on a budget. I come here close to once a week for my work lunches, the main advantage of coming here is the quickness and the price. The price is truly amazing for a sit down restaurant. The reason I ding this a star is the quality of the overall menu isn't there, you can find some super star dishes that taste amazing (I get the No. 26 juevos con chorizo that is amazing) but the menu is like 100 items and every time I have strayed from No. 26, it has not been the best. The staff doesn't listen too their customers and the food is inedible. I asked for a margarita with 1800 for the tequila in the cocktail. I told not one but two staff members this. Guess what they brought, a margarita with a shot of 1800, not my order. Then the food arrived. My taco and tostada were supposed to be crispy yet both were wet and soggy. As a native Texan, this restaurant is a gem that made feel right at home away from Austin. I ordered the Carne Asada, which arrived sizzling, perfectly seared, thin and yet still tender. The chips were hot, and the salsa mild (an expected allowance for Tex-Mex served outside my home state) but a hot spice blend is available table side for personalization. Food was typical, nothing special. My wife had to eat half her fajitas before the fajita wraps ever showed up. Once they arrived, he did apologize for forgetting them but never came back to refill our drinks. It was supposed to be 2 for one margaritas night. Lots of variety on the Salsa's menu. In fact, it was a tad difficult to choose, because many of the options are very similar. My date chose a nachos dish, and I, enchiladas. He was very pleased, I liked mine as well. It was not exceptional, but basically good food. The meal pricing is on par. Basic chips and salsa at the table. The service was fast and attentive, with a few language barrier snafus. Ex. I ordered orange soda and received orange juice. Really, no big deal. I merely drank it. Graciously located right next to the Holiday Inn that we stayed at, this place is a cozy, little restaurant in a tiny little strip mall. It had a very nice atmosphere with bright colors and a really neat tiled floor that will cause your chair to sit on only three legs. We were wobbling throughout our entire dinner. Excellent chips and salsa! We went through three baskets and each time, they came out hot and fresh. I expected the salsa to be a little spicier but it was good nonetheless. Me and my compadre both had the fajita steak quesadillas and although they were excellently cooked and seasoned, there was too much cheese on mine. (I know, is there even such a thing as TOO MUCH cheese?) They also weren't cut, so it was more like a big messy burrito! I will say that the fajita steak was very tender and juicy and I would have been happy with just a huge plate of that. My husband had the #78 which is the pablano chile relleno and his exact words were "this is the best I've ever had". The kids choices are very limited and they offer thing like a burrito, taco, nachos and a quesadilla. The kids nachos were fair but she didn't like them because the "chicken tasted funny". I wish they would have had a few more American choices such as chicken nuggets or a hamburger. Our food was out super fast, the chips and salsa were fantastic, our waiter was efficient and friendly, there is a ton of dinner and lunch choices and like my husband said, the chile relleno is the best he has ever had. The smell when we first walked in was gross. The restaurant needs a deep clean overhaul. The food was good though. Anytime I find homemade flour tortillas, I get excited! The cheese dip had a great creamy rich flavor. The pico needed more tomatoes, it was mostly onions. Salsa could use more flavor. The service wasn't bad and all of our meals were served correctly. Portions were good. The soft tacos aren't served on homemade tortillas, so be sure to ask for that. The cheese seemed freshly shredded and was good. If the restaurant didn't smell I would have given it 4 stars. read more

Salsas is our go to Mexican place. We've tried them all - this is the one for quality of food and service. I could eat Mexican every day but since I've been frequenting Salsas m, whenever I am out of Clinton and go eat Mexican somewhere else I am always disappointed with the food. I would highly suggest the fajitas with squash and zucchini in them. As a matter of fact, I created an off menu item based on these fajitas: a quesadilla with shredded chicken (SO moist!) onions, peppers, squash, zucchini, and tomatoes. It's incredible. The salsa is amazing and completely lives up to the restaurant's name. I could eat my weight in that stuff. However, some of the other food is lacking. I will say that my brother disagreed on the matter below, but this is my particular taste. I ordered the steak chimichanga. The outside was not as crisp as I was hoping for and the steak inside tasted completely bland - almost like they had reheated the same steak several times before. It was cooked to oblivion. Which, for a lover of medium rare steak, this was a horrible offense. The spices were lacking in my main dish, but the side of rice was surprisingly spicy. The rice didn't taste good, but it did have spices. Our server was very sweet, despite an obvious language barrier. She did not seem to understand my party when we tried to explain that we wanted to split the charge between us. And she ended up putting the entire ticket on my brother's card - which was HILARIOUS. But also inconvenient. But, she was VERY sweet and attentive, which we greatly appreciated. What a gem on the western outskirts of Jackson! We stopped at Salsa's for lunch while passing through the Jackson, MS area on I-20, and were very pleased. The menu is extensive, and with its 6 pages of dish descriptions in 9 point font, would probably have taken us an hour to read in its entirety. Thankfully there are helpful titles for the various sections, including a lunch special section and a vegetarian section. The food itself: Chips and salsa were tasty and above average for this part of the country; 1 taco lunch special with rice and beans was delicious and the perfect portion size to allow us to roll on down the road without needing a nap; the vegetarian fajitas were tasty and included many different veggies (the usual squash, peppers, and onions, but also broccoli! and cauliflower!). In a word, yum. Our only minor complaint was that it was a bit drafty in the restaurant, and we happened to eat there on a cold day. Weekday happy hour (4 p.m. to close) sounded promising: 2-for-1 beers and margaritas. There was another sign saying kids eat free on Wednesdays.
