I'm not sure I have Ever walked into a more picturesque cafe. Couches, board games, newspapers, even a little boutique! Feels like I've walked into a Bon Appetite magazine. Kudos to the interior designer! Back to the task at hand, the food. Although salt & light features the typical salad/sandwich/soup/cafe menu, there are great additions that take it to another level. Tacos and quesadilla's, along with snacks and pastries. The big surprise here? There is an extensive kids menu, which makes this a space the entire family can enjoy. With all this being said, it saddens to me say that my lunch choice fell flat. I went with the jerk chicken sandwich and a side of chips. Wonderful little destination location for us city slickers. We took the scenic route out, had some lunch and took the scenic route home. I had a breakfast burrito which was very boutique but at the same time was a good amount of food, not like some places that charge you 10 bucks for a burrito and give you a tiny portion. I do love this place! The only problem I have with it is that there's no whole grain bread products, which would be nice for those with salt restricted diets and which are low glycemic. I used to eat their donuts which are the best anywhere, but I can no longer eat sugar in anything...One more thing that would help is a listing of ingredients in each product, it helps greatly which many restaurants don't provide..It's really difficult when you are on a special diet for health reasons. My grandson was playing baseball at a nearby field so I stopped in here for breakfast. It is casual Chic, rustic and comfortable where the locals go for breakfast. The menus are hanging by the door. You bring them to the counter, if you can even get there in a reasonable time. That's the negative. One person was taking orders from people in a long line. The counter person tells you someone will bring your order. You just tell where you'll be seated. I looked at the pastry offerings in the case. They are expensive but since hand made, the price is worth it. I ordered a breakfast egg, cheese and bacon sandwich on English muffin with a side of home fries. I seated myself. In about five minutes, I had a terrific breakfast. I ordered coffee black. Excellent. If I were to have them fix anything, pick up the pace on ordering. Owners are friendly and have a catering business under their belt, (which is a huge step up from the last owners quality wise). This shows as the food is polished, with good flavors, and a focused menu. My wife and I both shared the pita chips with goat cheese and grilled corn dip. The dip was amazing, and my wife would have stolen the recipe if she had the chance. The pita chips were really bad. They were so hard I could barely bite into them, had to use my back teeth. I'll try them again sometime when it's not as busy. I had the steak sandwich, which was soft and not stringy at all, which was nice (hate it when steak sandwiches pull half the steak out in a bite). Wife had the prosciutto sandwich, which she also liked. There was a semi-automatic espresso machine (again step up from before), but no decafe coffee =( Re: Some of these other reviews... it's not the best restaurant in groton, nor fine dining...but that's because it's not a full service restaurant (that I know of), it's a solid breakfast/lunch spot (haven't tried the 2 dinner plates) and it's a good one at that. read more

Excellent quality food especially my favorite for breakfast. Highly enjoy their pastries and coffee. If you haven't had their version of donut holes you are missing out. They are super friendly and accommodating especially with their curbside pickup during covid! Hubby loved his vegan hash--especially that it incorporated avocado. My roast turkey wrap had some creative seasoning. I liked that the staffer brought my order out to the car window. Disappointed, food looked beautiful but was lacking in flavor and basic seasoning. Had the open faced BLT this dish needed salt and a 2nd egg. I've been here twice for a light breakfast and each time my 2 year old has come along. We like to sit in the couch area so he can move around a bit and use the table for whatever quiet activity he is doing (crayons, looking through a picture book) and I also just like sitting in a comfy chair while I dine. The food is tasty, the place is welcoming and I like looking at the jewelry in their boutique area as well. Each time, I've enjoyed my drink and my breakfast sandwich and the folks I've been with have enjoyed their meals as well. Overall, it's a cute little spot that I'm sure I'll frequent again. I do have a quibble though. Today we were told, rather brusquely, that "outside food and beverages were not allowed". The outside "food and beverage" that this staff member was referring to was my son's sippy cup and Pyrex container holding one sliced apple. I understand rules and regulations, but a sippy cup and an apple? I'm not sure what the alternative is; force him to drink out of a "big boy" cup and thus spill water all over the place, empty out his "outside" water and then ask them to refill it with their approved water. And the apple... I mean, that just strikes me as bizarre. We've eaten at many places where this is a total non-issue. I could understand if I brought in a whole breakfast spread just for him (his own breakfast sandwich, a yogurt, pancakes), but this was clearly just a sliced apple. For my main breakfast I decided to try the pork hash & eggs (scrambled for me). The flavor of the pork hash with the swirl of spiced sauce was absolutely amazing. Had to try this new place after my better half went and said that they have the best breakfasts - and, she was right! Ended up with the Kalamata olive, spinach, tomato, and Feta omelet and a tall cup of dark roast coffee. The omelet was perfectly done with the eggs firm, but the spinach and tomatoes not over-cooked. Also, they had quite the selection of BBQ and hot sauces from which I chose the chipotle one. Loved every last bite. My wife got pancakes with ricotta cheese and I tried a taste and was in heaven, especially with the maple syrup. The potatoes were also good (I tried my wife's), but I really liked that a side salad of mixed greens in a light olive oil dressing came standard with the omelet - perfect match. As for the coffee - I wasn't a fan, but it wasn't Dunkin Donuts either, so very passable to me. Would I go back - yep, most definitely - but do be sure to be ready to wait, they could use more tables with all the great business they are generating. read more

I found the staff to be very rude. We asked for salt and pepper (of all things, a very basic staple at a restaurant) and were told they had already seasoned our eggs. I said we would still like salt and pepper. So the waitress reluctantly came to the table with a teeny tiny dish with a pinch of salt and pepper in it. It was not enough. So 5 minutes later we asked again for salt and pepper. 5 minutes later ( now my eggs are cold) she came again with a teeny tiny dish with a pinch of salt and a pinch of pepper). I found the whole situation rude and presumptuous. And ironic, doesn't the restaurant have the name "Salt" in it? And they dont even offer salt on the table!!!! read more

If you have kids do not go here! They acted like my kids were in inconvenience who were actually behaving so well (they were quiet and sweet - not that it should matter). I ordered pancakes for my 3 year girls, which is their favorite and they did not touch them. They kept saying "mama I don't like this" so in order to eat my food I pulled out the mom favorite, a pouch, for each of them. The worker came over and said "you cannot have outside food in our establishment". I actually thought she was going to offer my girls something else because they didn't touch their pancakes. Hahaha! I have been to many restaurants where I have had to give my kids snacks and I have never been spoken too. I could understand if I didn't buy anything but we spent $30+ for two breakfast sandwiches (no sides), 2 coffees and pancakes. I feel like having a Pretty Woman moment and going back there with all my mom friends and kids and saying "remember that time you didn't let my kids have a pouch, BIG mistake, huge. We have to go eat lunch now". Josiah pouches do not have nuts. You could have asked if it was nut free. We did tell your staff that they didn't like the pancakes and they did nothing. You should also put a sign up saying that no outside food is accepted. read more

Went here for a mommy toddler date and despite wrestling said toddler to sit in a high chair- this place was great. Breakfast was lovely albeit a little small for my liking. Ordered an extra egg on top my hash and it was delicious. You can tell this put time and knowledge into their food and don't just throw food on the grill.
