Stop by here while roaming around, They had a lot of flavors and toppings to choose from, and everything looked fresh and colorful. The place was clean, and the staff was friendly and helpful. The ice cream was really good, definitely stop by if your are near the area.

The food was good, but the customer service I'm for sure last time I was there. The employee making the food gave me the meanest look, rolled her eyes because she was calling out that my order is ready, but it was so loud because of other customers, I couldn't really hear her, but when I did, she was so upset and she pushed it towards me and rolled her eyes once again with a mean look that was horrible customer service.

50/50 Gunther's guava, freeze and vanilla ice cream

I love this little place where I can get Gunther's ice cream and Gunther's freezes and then they have homemade desserts like flan and sweet cream rice and they make fresh fruit concoctions. I don't even know how they maintain such a huge menu. There's so many different options. I love coming here sometimes I come for the Bionicos, which is like a fruit parfait and other times I come for a mangonada or icecream or paletas.

Have been here a few times now when looking for a sweet treat and specifically when I'm craving something from an elotero. This dessert shop has a great variety of options, they have Gunther's ice cream and freezes, shaved ice, loaded shaved ice/freezes, and Mexican snacks like tostilocos, tostielotes, and mangoneadas. They also have juices, popsicles, and more. The portions are generous and they make your order quick. Recently I went and got the volcano. It was super tasty and exactly what I was craving. The inside is small but there's booth seating and they have some seating outside. The inside is pretty clean, tables can be sticky, and the parking lot is pretty small but if you go in the afternoon you should be able to find parking. It's a nice spot to eat at when you have either something simple or a loaded dessert this summer.

The mangonada was a hit, albeit a bit pricey! Would recommend getting it on Monday when it's a special--definitely shareable medium size & above! My boyfriend loved it! The amount of options was a bit overwhelming truthfully, so I just got the day's special which was the waffle & ice cream. It was too sweet for me but the waffle was too sweet for me on top of all the other sweet items that it came with. Staff were patient while they were waiting for me to decide, so that was nice of them!

Came here to get a sweet treat just now and walked out feeling aggravated. The kid behind the counter wasn't even going to help me. I had to ask, "where do I order?" Fine, no big deal. I ask for a scoop of birthday cake AND another scoop of strawberry cheesecake in a single waffle cone. He then asks, "do you want it in a cup?" I say, " No, a waffle cone please." Rings me up and it's $12. That's expensive for what I ordered, but in this economy, I just assume everything is doubling in price LOL. Needless to say, I don't question it. Then he hands me a waffle cone with just one scoop as he gets ready to prepare the next one. I stop and say, "it's just one cone." At this point, I'm frustrated and just asked to be refunded. No apology. Nothing.

Stopped by with two friends for some quick dessert. The store was pretty empty and parking was easy with the lot outside. The interior of the store has a huge menu - I would make sure you know what you want in advance as it can definitely be overwhelming! The inside is also clean but a bit run down - you can tell that this is a very well-loved spot. I got a watermelon paleta, which was very delicious and was made with real fruit. The workers were prompt and made the ordering experience super quick and easy. Yum!

Elote and mangonada! Got lucky and stopped in on a Saturday before a rush. Parking spots are limited but there is street parking available. The menu can be overwhelming if you don't know what you want. Opted for mangonada slush and it was all that I hoped it would be. The elote is good too if you're looking for some. Prices are fair and staff is friendly.

This place was doing big things 4 years ago.. Me and my wife went today and the worker who was a young lady was rude dry and seemed disconnected from her job..they use to make a really good bionico today was terrible sour unripe fruit and the consistency was water nothing to it..tasted like she just poured milk over sour fruit put a scoop of ice cream no nuts no nothing..and the scoop of ice cream was a sad excuse for $5...Baskin Robbins is better..this is what happens when owners get to use to the money and don't keep up with the quality... restaurants are so crappy seems like everyone is watering everything down..never again..

Hard not to find something you like in this place. They even have a beer fridge?! Lately I've been craving Gunther's ice cream more than usual so I've been here a couples times this month already oops sorry not sorry. My order is usually a boring go to like cookies n' cream or choccie chip cookie dough in a cup. A few weeks ago I even went so far as to order a waffle cone! Usually I don't because I don't like messy foods, but I was living a little that day what can I say? If I wanted a Mexican treat like a mangonada or paleta they have these too. They have a giant menu of Mexican goodies, shakes, sundaes, and aguas frescas. It's impressive. I'm always pleased with the quality of my desserts and the cool efficiency with which the folks bang out order after order. It's nearly always out the door when you come here in the Sacramento Sauna season. You may have to squash into a line situation that may trigger claustrophobia, but mine's always been in check here. They'll give you a receipt with your order number on it, and call it out when it's ready. You can hear them from outside too since the foot traffic in and out is usually constant. Sometimes we eat outside at the picnic tables if there's room, and sometimes we go for a romantic stroll. I love this neighborhood and Sweets & Sugars Ice Cream. Parking: very hard to find, small lot, we usually walk here so... I would try side streets in the neighborhoods adjacent. 4th Ave/Wayne Hultgren Lightrail station or 62 bus are other options to get here. Don't try to go in the small parking lot if it's crowded. Bathroom Report: smol, does the job of bathroom, be careful not to open the door into a bunch of people in line Vegan Corner: Oof not really much choice here, a cup of fruit perhaps, or fruit juice by itself

    Sundae and 50/50

Loved it here! What a cute, hidden gem that serves delicious ice cream treats without the long lines and crowded dining spaces. They serve Gunther's ice cream and we were able to enjoy a hot fudge sundae and a 50/50 on a hot day! Highly recommend if you are out with your kids near the zoo, fairytale town, or William Lands Park.

Fresada, fresas con crema, and churro cheesecake. They put chocolate, caramel, lechera, and fresh strawberries on the cheesecake!

Unfortunately, we don't get eloteros or ice cream trucks in our neighborhoods in Midtown. It's definitely something I miss from SoCal. Luckily Sweets & Sugar Ice Cream is nearby to fill that niche. They sell everything you can find in your typical paletería like La Michoacana. The menu is enormous with a ton of options to fulfill any cravings. This time we got a fresada, fresas con crema, and a churro cheesecake. They were all great, but I highly recommend the postres/desserts because they put chocolate, caramel, lechera/condensed milk, and fresh strawberries. We'll definitely be back to try the ice cream, paletas, and licuados. Be aware the parking is a shared lot with other businesses so be prepared to park on the street if full.

    Crazy apple
    Catherine M.

I moved from SoCal to Davis a few months ago and have been craving a chamoy apple so much. People were right when they told me Davis is full of nothing, so I had to find a place in Sacramento. I decided to get the crazy apple at Sweets & Sugars right after my last afternoon class and it was worth the 30min traffic-filled drive. It hit the spot and whenever I need a little taste of home I'd definitely come back here. Only complaint is the tiny parking lot.

I'm 54 years old and have a 30-year-old daughter and my niece is 25. I don't even know how that would be possible. I was right next to them sitting at a table with my brother so of course I heard, and I got up and I said what's up with this grandma stuff, and he said that he answered her question and told her that he thought I was her grandmother. Honestly, I felt completely insulted like you're not supposed to say things like that to your customers or even about your customers. I felt myself getting ready to go completely off on him, so I walked away and went to sit back down. He had the audacity to tell my niece some people can't handle the truth. It's so baffling to me that a manager would say something like that. I know employees sometimes say inappropriate things, but he should know better!! This was supposed to be a nice family outing and he ruined my night. Luckily I have confidence in myself and his comment didn't give me a complex or make me like I look old. It was also disappointing because I went in there specifically to get an eclair, which is normally a decent size. For some reason, it was the half of the size and the same price.

This parlor is apparently known for ice cream puffs (which none of us tried to be fair) . I believe it's a slightly warm donut with ice cream in the middle and what they are named after... The parlor had limited ice cream flavors (nothing traditional that I would usually go for - or settle for s simple as strawberry by itself) and while a couple flavors sounded interesting, they missed the mark for me. I ended up with the Thai tea and vanilla and the Thai tea flavor was extremely light. My son liked his strawberry cheesecake milkshake. My friend liked her pina colada ice cream scoop with coconut shred topping. The others seemed to like their one scoop ice creams but we all took time to decide. The establishment is small. A couple of tiny tables inside and a bench seating inside. There are also a couple of tables and a bench seating outside. The line started forming at 8:30 with about 5 people behind us and 2 workers behind the counter so we didn't have time to get pictures without lots of people on the background. :(

We arrived and were seated promptly which was nice. But then our server went on break, we got a new server, they took our order and about 30 minutes later, they brought out all of the food except for two entrees. A kids entree and an adult entree. They said they were going to make the food but we sat there while we watched dozens of people sit down and leave, staff rarely checked on us, and then an hour later, they finally bring out the food. It was an absolute disaster. The server apologized (the manager never came to acknowledge the issue even though they spoke to the server about the situation) and the server stated that there was some sort of miscommunication with the order. To be honest, I was more upset about the fact that by the time the two entrees came out, everyone was already done eating. So those two people just had to box their food and eat it later. After dinner, it was ice cream time. We order my son's ice cream (just a scoop of chocolate) first at least 15 minutes before they take anybody else's order at the table. Absolutely terrible experience and once again, no manager interaction with us, just the server claiming some sort of miscommunication again. My kid's food (the entree and the ice cream) was what came out a whopping combined time of one and a half hours late. They comped the grilled cheese sandwich but then had the audacity to charge for the ice cream! And on top of this...they automatically charged gratuity for the whole table!
