What a fun discovery for us, even though many famous speed drivers from Bonneville have been coming for years! This place is popular with locals and if I lived here I would be one of them, weekly if not daily! The walls are full of autographed speed photos. The food has a handmade taste. My huevos were spectacular. Our table also ordered a hamburger, it was good to the last bite! All the workers were family and the owner has been cooking in Wendover since 1984!

This family owned and operated place has really good food. Service was fantastic in this small diner.

Was told about this place by a local at Tona Vista golf course In Wendover Nv. I have been coming to Wendover for years and as small as it is, didn't know of the little gem. We ate there and came back the next day to try something different. Not shy with the proteins in the tacos and other menu items. could use a little more flavor but the chili verde is well seasoned. Great price for what you get. Will definitely frequent the Salt Flat Cafe next visit to Wendover.

Checked out Salt Flat's café recently & It was amazing! Definitely a hidden gem in the city. It's slightly southwest of the casinos. The chips & salsa came out quickly after we sat down. The salsa was really spicy! I couldn't handle much of it. It had good flavor just really spicy. My boyfriend ordered the Huevos Rancheros with carne asada. His only complaint was that he wishes the beans were on top of the chips instead of under the chips. He felt like it was hard to get to them until he ate the chips down more. He also ordered one single carne asada taco & he said he really liked this! Said the carne asada was cooked to perfection. I ordered the cheese enchiladas with rice & beans. This plate was massive! The sauce was dripping off the sides. It ended up coming with 3 enchiladas. More than I could finish by myself for sure! I'm not a lover of red enchilada sauce but I actually really liked their red enchilada sauce. The rice & beans were good. Service was really quick! Portions were huge & it only cost $30 total. They do only accept cash, so be aware of that before you go.

John suggested that I eat lunch at one of the casinos, except I am horrifically allergic to cigarette smoke and very quickly realized- absolutely no. So- I landed at a small, authentic, Mexican restaurant. Cash only was posted on the door- check. I walked in and heard only Spanish being spoken, oh, this is going to be good! This is a hole in the wall- stand alone building, gravel parking lot with no lines- just pick your parking spot. Inside, tables were packed with families. I waited to be seated and was shown to a booth. I saw all the large plates around the various tables and EVERYTHING looked and SMELLED delicious! This was my last day in the area- with a red eye flight that evening and I am seriously thinking refried beans (which were delicious) were going to come back and bite me in the a$$. It was worth it! lol I ordered flautas- which were very tasty and the plate came with refried beans and rice- both delicious. I took my couple leftovers in the car with me since it was an hour and half ride back to the city. I loved touring the Salt Flats and this lunch spot was a huge hit for me!

Bottom line: Cash only, good food, friendly service, depressing desert ambiance, stray animals, and near the train tracks. When passing through the state line recently for a fill up, we decided to stop for breakfast. We arrived at 10:01 a.m. and were the first customers. Since our pup was with us, we asked if we could sit outside. The answer was yes, but we'd have to place a to-go order since there's no service on the patio. That was ok with us. Only one of the outdoor tables was in the shade so we snagged it. Shortly after, more cars started arriving and the place got pretty busy on Saturday morning. (There was a small wait when we were leaving.) The food was good, though I was surprised that 1) the breakfast came with chips and salsa that entailed flour (not corn) chips and super runny salsa, and 2) the chorizo plate didn't come with refried beans. We weren't expected to pay until we'd finished our meal, so it's kind of an honor system in that regard but helpful if you decide to order more. Around the patio are discarded appliances and trailers, some of which don't appear to have been occupied for years. We saw two (stray?) dogs and a cat as well as the passing train. The service was very friendly y hablan español. Prices were fair. Ladies' room could use some maintenance, a mirror, and a notice for employees to wash their hands. On the bright side, we didn't get sick!

We've been here four times over the past few years as we pass through Wendover (to Burning Man). The food is excellent and a tremendous value. It also just has a nice community, local vibe and cool pics on the walls of Salt Flats racers. read more

This place is as local as it gets! We stopped here on the way back from Wendover and am very glad we did! This small restaurant serves authentic, homemade Mexican food that is perfect post your trip to Wendover. The juevos rancheros were so tasty, especially the beans. The owner does it all, takes the order, brings the food and rings you up. I will definitely add this to the list of places to stop at on the next trip out to Wendover. read more

Can't find anyplace to eat in Wendover that is worth a hoot? Head east out of town and exit just past the weigh station........... A family owned business... It was used in the movie, "The Worlds Fastest Indian". Great Mexican food and breakfast at very reasonable prices.... Hey, I am not kidding.... Get over there NOW! read more

Do not eat the slop they call food at any of the casinos. Also don't put up with casino "service". Drive a few miles to the salt flats cafe and enjoy authentic good people and service and amazing simple food! read more

Currently eating in this restaurant right now and I just want to say this place is such a score for where it is located. I ordered shrimp fajitas and I've never had a restaurant give me so much shrimp! Everything was really good and the service was great as well. Probably the best restaurant in wendover. I gave it 4 stars cause sometimes the wait is long cause you sear yourself so if it's packed they may not see you right away. But great restaurant I was really sad when they had to close down. But when I heard it opened back up It was like a mission to have some cause I missed it so much read more

This place got rave reviews so we decided to give it a try. First, the place was a big mess and disorganized, but all the staff were very nice and friendly. We ordered the Pancho Special which is a burrito, enchilada, and tostada for under $7! I had the tostada and boyfriend ate the rest. It was definitely enough for two people to split. It was all ok. You get a ton of food for the money, and we got full. However, it was not memorable and worthy of more than 3 stars. read more

Best breakfast - chorizo & eggs and basic American breakfast. Yum! Reasonable prices & fast service. This is our second visit and great to support local business after giving too much $$ to the casinos. Looks a little dicey - it's attached to a gas station but its totally worth it. read more

Another great find thanks to Yelp. We passed this place a thousand times in the last 35 years, but never have stopped. Excellent Mexican, home made and authentic. The Menudo was very popular with locals. I had the chile verde platter of course and was not disappointed. K had a rather spicy but excellent shrimp fajita platter. Total bill was $20. It's small, so be prepared to wait if it's busy. read more

Best authentic Mexican food I've ever had! I love the chicken fajitas, tortillas, chile verde burrito, chips and salsa, horchata, and the rice (my fav)!! It is very reasonably priced! If I were rating ONLY on food, I would have to take away a star. But for where it is located, with a proprietor that is straight up old school awesome.......this warrants the 5 star. Not to mention they were open on the 4th of July for breakfast and were putting out some good food. read more

First I need to say that the food was pretty delicious. The service however, leaves a lot to be desired. We got there around 2:00 and the place was packed but we managed to score two seats at the counter. We waited about ten minutes and finally I asked for menus. They also brought us chips and salsa. This proved to be a mistake because it was another 10 minutes before we were asked what we wanted to drink or even offered water. Not good with chips and salsa! I ordered their special, the padre which had a tostada, an enchilada and I believe a burrito along with beans and rice. I was trying to save a few calories so I ordered mine without rice. My husband ordered beans and rice, flour tortillas and some chicken on the side. My food came out first and it still had rice. Oh well. Guess I better eat that yummy stuff! I was half done with my food before my husbands food came out and they forgot his tortillas. It took another 5 minutes to get those. Aside from the service issues, the food tasted great and our whole meal (I had water he had tea) was only 16 bucks! That might have made up a bit for the disorganized service. I probably won't be back in this neck of the woods again but if I were, I might eat there again just with dramatically reduced expectations. read more

As far removed yet right where it should be, this place delivers on all accounts. I got the Pancha Special, an ample sampling, of which I devoured. The steak was cooked with a seasoning I can't put my finger on because my mind was jumping to shovel the beans cheese and rice down with it. It was topped with crispy crunchy tostada stack, and underneath cleverly placed to soak up the flavors was the pork burrito and enchilada. Truly does not matter what you get in the protein field, you are sure to enjoy it. Speeding it's way right to my heart ;) read more

Steak burrito was ok at best, nothing to complain about but definitely nothing to rave about. My wife had a chile rellenos and it was quite disgusting. The breading was soggy with grease and the side cheese enchilada with just like a lot of cheese. The next time I'm in Wendover I'll just get pizza hut. Not sure why everyone raved about the service here, my plate came out well before my wife's plate. It is definitely a famly owned restaurant, and is the best Wendover has to offer. read more

Prepare for portions And cheap food! Old diner style with filthy sticky menus and a huavos rancheros that will knock you out for a few hours with its rich and cheesy flavor! Located right next to the bonneville salt flats with its walls covered with legends of speed. Probably the best place to eat for 100 miles. We go there for Speed Week and your day on the salt is just not right without their huevos rancheros to start it off. Very fast and friendly service. During Speed Week there's thousands of people there, and these folks serve an incredible number of breakfasts. Good food and amusing decor. Cash only. read more

The forks were tiny and barely usable. We asked for a sauce for the samosa and gave us ketchup! The samosas were very bland and undercooked dough. I began to eat my chicken Tikka Masala and bit into something with the most disgusting texture that I immediately spit it out and could no longer finish eating. Total waste of $22. I could not recommend this place at all.

If you're looking for a quick and tasty bite on your way to Salt Lake City, the Salt Flats Cafe in West Wendover is a great option. I recently stopped by and had a delicious ham and cheese sandwich with bell peppers. The sandwich was perfectly grilled, and the ingredients were fresh and flavorful. The service was friendly and efficient, and there was plenty of parking available. Overall, I was very impressed with my experience at the Salt Flats Cafe and would definitely recommend it to anyone passing through the area. read more

We were told this was the best place in town--it's where all the locals eat. We have very good Mexican food at home, so we were doubtful. I had a chicken torta with fries. It was as good as I've ever had. The price was low, and the service was fast. The atmosphere isn't great--the building looks like an abandoned trailer house. They were out of beef. And in 2017, they're cash-only. But I'd definitely try it again, if I was in the area. read more

The place appears to be a bit of a dive but give it a chance. The food is really very good. The Mexican dishes are very authentic and delicious. Portions are large yet quite reasonably priced. The "Poncho" platter has a nice selection of Mexican favorites. read more

Awesome food! Don't let the exterior scare you off. This little hidden gem is a must when in Wendover or passing through!!!
