The food here is phenomenal. Has been from the beginning, when they were in a smaller location. Julio (the owner & chef) knows his craft, and nails it time and time again. This particular visit, we got there before 5:00pm, so my husband wasn't able to get what he wanted (Chicken Fried Steak isn't served until after 5:00), but that did not dissuade us. We had the Hot Wings appetizer (6 piece) to start. They were delicious and come with either ranch or bleu cheese. We picked ranch and it was perfection. The wings were crispy and the Buffalo sauce brought the perfect heat. I had the Baja Chicken Breast Salad. Mmm mmm mmm! The balance of salad to chicken to dressing (which comes in a small bowl on the side, so you can dress to your liking) brought a whole new level of YUM. Can't go wrong with avocado and crispy tortilla strips! Husband had the Bacon Cheeseburger, and while it was not the CFS he had hoped for, it was good (a bit dry) and the beer-battered French fries made it even better. One of our favorite places in town. We visited Afton for a month and we came here on our first day and on our way out. For lunch, the burgers and fries were great. Definitely one of my favorite places in the valley. Hardly anyone knows about this delivery gem, but my goal is to become sponsored by them. Every time I come home and meet up with old high school buddies, I suggest lunch at Salt River. It's nestled right on Main Street, the perfect location for people who need a good burger whilst window shopping during the summer months. It's large and spacious with plenty of tables and booths. The employees are so kind and helpful, they are very efficient and know how to make a delightful lunch. Plus, every single time I set down my empty water cup, the waitress was right there filling it back up. The Philly cheesesteak is delightful. The bread is soft and easy to eat, the meat was cooked perfectly and well seasoned and it wasn't chewy or hard to bite. The peppers and onions add a nice color and flavor as well. Complete with a side of fries, it's one of the best lunch deals you could ask for. The Swiss Bacon Cheeseburger is another classic choice. Every condiment tastes fresh and has that yummy "crisp" crunch to it. I love that the meat is juicy and tender but never pink, definitely the way to do it. Again, coming with a heaping of fries, you just can't go wrong. The chicken salad is huge and yummy as well, especially if you're in the mood for a lighter lunch. It comes with a large side of dressing, which is awesome because you can dress it yourself. Tasty chicken and fresh avocado, it is large and in charge. Had breakfast here. Wasn't the best but was better than we've had other places in afton. Wife had the breakfast burrito and the eggs were still very runny. I had an omelette that was a bit overcooked. Daughter asked for wimpy bacon and received well done. When we said something thes said that's all they have? All of our hash browns were a little raw. The coffee cups are tiny. But all in all they had a good flavor and attitude. might have been a bad time. We will try again. read more

Since the pandemic we have ordered Salt River Grill a few times & they never disappoint! It is family owned and they are so nice! Willing to answer questions and helpful. I like the Swiss Mushroom burger with fries, Bacon Burger or the salads. The burgers are thick and well cooked. I am so full by the end!! They also have good toppings for the burgers too! My husband and I went to the Salt Water Grill today. We were greeted by Christine ,who was also our waitress. She was very nice and seated us in a room used for parties because she was getting ready for dinner. The place is modestly decorated, not fancy at all. It is family owned and she emphasized how delicious the Prime Rib is. She explained to us that her dad's the cook and that they moved to this location approximately 1 year ago. We ordered 2 cheese burgers. One with French fries and the other with sweet potato fries. I also ordered a side salad with Blue Cheese dressing. Our salad came with red onion, cucumbers, tomatoes and carrots, very pretty. Then our burgers came. They were hot and big! The patties were hand formed and perfectly cooked with no pink! The meat was very good and a good 1/3 of a pound! Served with lettuce, purple onion, tomato on a brioche bun. There were 9 of us for dinner last night and 1 waitress and she did a fabulous job, she was on top of everything and was very sweet. We truly enjoyed our dining experience because of her. We were driving up and down Washington street looking for places to eat in late September and couldn't find many appetizing options (we had already eaten at Rocky Mountain Seafood for lunch or we would have gone there!). I believe this used to be Savannah's before it closed. I'm glad we found this place because it was shockingly good food for a small town. I've had much more expensive dishes at fancier restaurants in big cities that paled in comparison to this food. And that's because it's all in the dishes. The cook (I think it's just him and his wife that run the place) came out at the end of our meal and spoke with us for several minutes. He explained that he has worked in the food business for years and just recently (May I believe) opened this restaurant and decided to make just about everything from scratch. For example, the trout was caught locally in the river, the glaze was made from scratch, the BBQ sauce was made from scratch, even the salad dressing was made from scratch! Those details really enhance the flavors and make it more special than store-bought TV dinners that you get at other restaurants. We tried the trout and I would be tempted to drive back to Afton just to get that fish. The glaze already mentioned above was incredible. We also got a BBQ burger with a side salad. The burger wasn't really anything special until you put the BBQ sauce on it. I asked the cook for his recipe and he politely declined (rats! it was delicious!). It's a great little restaurant in the heart of downtown Afton and what it lacks in decor it makes up for in excellent flavors. I'm super particular and rarely find a place that I feel is worthy of five stars. We have eaten here a few times now and everything we've tried has been fantastic! We used to own a restaurant and understand how crazy hard it is. It is a labor of love. We have mad respect for anyone willing to undertake it, and then go out of their way to actually do it right! To take the time to make things from scratch, with good quality ingredients and skill! It feels like they take pride in what they do, and for that we are so grateful! The wife and I both had the day off and went looking for a different place to eat breakfast. We drove south to Afton and landed in the Salt River Grill. There was only 1 other family eating at the time (9:00 am) so I was surprised to find the service prompt and good!. I had the chicken fried steak. It wasn't the best I've ever had, but I'll order it on the next stop in if my wife doesn't talk me into an omelet like she had. The hashbrowns were killer and the portions were just about all I could handle. Waitress was friendly, food was hot and good. It was generally ok. I got the salmon and my wife got a pasta dish. After eating there, I thought that it was ok but I would probably not go back there again. However, my wife didn't like her pasta. On the drive home from Afton, we both felt sick. The day after, my wife felt really sick so we think it is food poisoning. Not sure if it was from that or caught something. We're taking a road trip from San Diego and stopped here due to the Yelp reviews. The place isn't so remarkable in aesthetics but it is very clean. Service was very good. The lemonade tasted freshly squeezed and the root-beer was nice and creamy. The fries were excellent and crispy. The Patty Melt was good but a little dry.
