Unfortunately the recent fame may have impacted this quiet uncommercialized family friendly island. This visit was filled with all sorts of redneck behavior from island guests. Our neighbors, following an all day beach drunk fest, busted glass, screamed, and fought into the wee hours of the morning. We witnessed a good bit more "recreational drug use", which is not normal for this place, and we ran into 10 or so small groups of beach fisherman who were targeting shark which is a no no on a busy beach. I'm pleased that the clear water, white beach, and the lack of commercialization is still there, but I'm disappointed that St. George has made the fatal turn of turning into a little PCB. I'm sad to say that I may be changing my beach destination in the future. Please come back to me St. George Island that I have come to love.

I do appreciate it after driving hrs. We paid $7 per person to clime it. One thing I recommend do legging exercise at home and people overweight wont feet the square space to reach to the top part on the wall metal stairs you need to hold on to it to clime up very narrow whom ever has long legs will be difficult too since the steps and space don't give you room to fold them. We headed to the beach afterwords to my surprise being in the Golf coast the water was clean and warm. Not shells almost very disappointing. A few people some music playing in the background nothing disturbing. One thing I did liked was the kids box beach toy available by the sand I guess you bring it back to it. March 2015, I stayed at a property called Turpentine on the plantation side, gated community at one end of the island. They have lots of trails for walking and biking. You can also take a short walk to the beach. The community has a gym and a pool. Everyone is super friendly and it was the most relaxing and beautiful vacation I've had in a long time. They have a few shops in the center of the island near the lighthouse. Some food stores a bit pricey but you can go off the island to the town of Apalachicola where they have Piggly Wiggly and Gulfside IGA store. Make sure you visit Apalachicola while you are staying, they have lots of shops in the center of town. Gibson Inn has the freshest oysters and nice cozy atmosphere. I've been to this area twice and enjoy something new every time. The view of the stars at night on the island is amazing, especially on dark streets away from street lights....I can still see them in my head....breathtaking.

There is a lot of wildlife and water to explore and enjoy and the folks at Journeys of St. George Island have always been extraordinarily helpful as we've tried to do that. We've rented kayaks from them, bought gear, asked questions and just enjoyed kind of hanging out with them around the island and in Apalach. They have a very laid back vibe and attitude but are super-serious about listening to what you want or are trying to do and then meeting your needs. They've gone WAY out of their way to make our vacations fun and I can't say that enough (I have MS and they've been incredibly cool and kind helping me get the equipment/modifications I need to stay active). I looked at my handful of reviews not too long ago and saw that I only give five-star reviews. I feel kinda bad about that, but really it's just so few places or experiences made/make me ecstatic and when I find one I want to recognize it. Jeannie's is one of them!
