We have eaten at this Salt Grass two prior times and have had very good dinner twice. Tonight we were in town again and thought about trying another one but because of our two prior visits being good once again we went here. Its a Friday evening so it was very busy. My hubby and I sat in the bar area. We were waited on immediately. I ordered their special 21oz margarita on the rocks no salt & hubby JD & water. My margarita was brought to me with salt. Our waitress promptly took it back and returned with it. It now tasted of salt and there was still specks of salt on the rim. I'm thinking they just wiped the salt off. I sent it back again and this time watched (from a bit of a distance) our waitress tell bartenders the issue I'm guessing. She sat my old margarita off to the side. While bartender was making me a new drink I watched a waitress (I think the same one) grab my old drink & carry it off to what I'm assuming was another table. Why else would it be carried off away from the bar?? I watched the bartender proceed to make me a very weak margarita that only tasted like sweet line juice. I ordered the rib eye and my hubby ordered the T-bone, both medium rare. They arrived and were cooked accordingly but the T-bone lacked flavor and my rib eye had so much fat I could barely cut or chew it and what I could chew was dry. My sweet potato fries were luke warm. In the past the rib eyes were perfect! For a $90 ticket for two we are so very disappointed. I don't mind spending that one a good meal but for something like we got tonight it was no better than going to Denny's. I'm giving 2 stars only because outlet past experiences were good. read more

Very sweet service but the food is simply below mediocre. Straight off the Sysco truck. The ice burg lettuce salad that came with my $25 entree should have been twice the size, but then again the quality of ingredients were so bad that I'd rather not have it at all. Steak was edible, cooked right for medium rare, but again, ingredients are everything and for the price should be grass fed local beef. Thanks for ruining our Valentine's celebration. We love Salt Grass so we waited the 25 minute wait tonight. Biggest mistake of our eating lives. Once seated, our waiter took our order. My husband got a ribeye, medium & I ordered a sirloin, medium rare. When he brought our salads, my lettuce was brown. I had asked for no croutons & cheese but it arrived with croutons & no tomatoes. The waiter brought me some tomatoes & I ate what I could with the brown lettuce. That should've been my first sign of how the meal would go. When they brought our steaks, I thought "Wow! That cut doesn't look very good." When I cut off a bite, the entire edge of the steak was well done! When I cut straight through the steak, it was tough & red in the center. I told the waiter that the edges were burned & it was not a good cut & I asked the waiter to take it back while my husband started on his meal. His steak was cooked medium rare, not medium, and was mostly fat & gristle. When my husband was 3/4 through his meal, they brought me the same steak, this time burned to a crisp! I know it was the same steak because the end piece I had cut off was still on the plate! I told them that I had requested medium rare & a better cut of steak. They took it back & after waiting for almost 30 minutes after our meal was first served, we asked them to cancel mine & send the manager over. When she came over with the check, we explained everything that happened & I said that I was no longer hungry. She asked if they could prepare anything else for me, but we said no. She didn't offer anything to make amends other than a weak apology. We paid for my husband's poor meal & left. We won't be back! This used to be our favorite place to eat. This place was amazing! The staff was extremely friendly and timely, and the food was unbelievably amazing. When I cut into the baby back ribs they just fell off the bone... delicious. My parents both ordered steaks, wow. The flavor and juices when you took a bite left you wanting more and more. Disappointing meal and service. Our waitress was cute and friendly but when I changed my mind while ordering, she failed to make the change on her order pad. It was an $8 difference but I didn't make a fuss because I HAD changed my mind and mistakes happen. Unfortunately, our food just wasn't good. The artichoke spinach dip had large pieces of previously frozen chokes and spinach, though the chips were good and probably fried today. Both soups were heavily seasoned and lacked the deep flavor that comes with cooking from scratch. My (by mistake) filet was good but the sauteed mushrooms were not fresh (sorry, there's NEVER an excuse for canned mushrooms) and the humongous pieces of broccoli were badly overcooked. We never received our bread so no telling whether it was good. Overall, it was a Y2K kind of meal that is fixed predominantly from canned and frozen items. That works at home when you don't have time to shop but it's inexcusable these days when fresh is readily available and delivered to restaurants. A $50 meal for two should be better. Our meal last night at Longhorn Restaurant (across the street) was better and cost $5 less. read more

Our large group had exceptional service tonight at Salt Grass Steakhouse. Even though there was 14of us, we walked in and were seating within 5mins. It gave us just enough time to order drinks from the bartender who was super sweet and friendly. The restaurant was packed but our food and drinks were shockingly timely! Our waiter Jarred, listed the specials clear and concise, continued to fill our drinks and took great care of us. The food was such high quality, savory, hot and the perfect portion size. My friend and i were driving through town and were staying at the hotel next to Saltgrass. We were hungry and decided to order the take out from Saltgrass. My friend picked it up since i needes to stay with the kids at the hotel. Our order was missing a few things and our cheese fries were cold. I called and talked to the manager Kelvin. He was prompt to address the issues. He told me to come back in 10 to 15 and pick up the missing items, fresh cheese fries, and even threw in some chocolate cake. Salt Grass used to be a regular stop in Spring or in Fort Worth because it was a good spot to take a group of employees. I cannot say that I have stopped at, or been tempted to stop at, a Salt Grass since I retired five years ago. Things have changed. We visited this Salt Grass in Amarillo on our way home from Colorado. We had driven for most of ten hours with the RV and just wanted a bite to eat - and maybe a margarita. What a pleasant surprise. The menu has changed, not drastically, but favorably. The food, however, has changed even more and for the better. My wife has baby backs with grilled shrimp and sweet potato fries. She loved every bite. I had the sirloin (8 oz) with grilled shrimp, steak fries and a wedge salad - and that margarita. The wedge salad was perfect - just the right mix of dressing, cheese, tomatoes and other goodies, with a dash of vinaigrette. The steal was great, good flavor, a good med-rare (even though I ordered medium - not a problem); the steak fries were skin-on chunks and I loved them. The grilled shrimp were well prepared with very good flavor. It was a great meal. So glad we stopped. I'm betting you'll be glad if you stop and give it a try too. read more

I had a top shelf margarita for $14 it should have been $9 tops. It was good but not that good. I also had a monitor which was tasteless in a bad way.
