Didn't have the best food experience so we wouldn't return. Baked potato was black and rotten very visible on end so whoever washed & prepped them should have seen the spoiled part. Other baked potato didn't have enough of the toppings so the potato was so dry. We all had steak which was grilled PERFECT. The broccoli was huge pieces instead of decent size seasoned pieces. My brother insisted we had to stop at a steakhouse and this place was right across from our hotel. The place has a great atmosphere, spacious, and very Texas feel. I think I saw a horse with an American flag draped over it with 'blessed Texas on it' out in front of the entrance. Our hostess wasted no time to seat us with a y'all and a huge smile. Caprock Cruiser FMCA/RV Club had our ladies Christmas luncheon at Saltgrass Steakhouse today. The atmosphere was very pleasing and quiet in the area we were seated. Tenderloin tips, fried shrimp, chicken fried chicken, chopped steak, sandwiches, soups and cheeseburgers were some of the dishes our ladies ordered from the lunch menu. Everything was fresh, cooked perfectly and served hot. All our ladies commented that their meal was delicious. Brittany our server sold us on the hot pecan bread pudding served in a small iron skillet with a huge dip of vanilla ice cream. Oh my goodness, it was super delicious. Just know it's large enough to share. Our servers Brittany and Dakota were both amazing. Throughout the entire meal they made sure we were having a wonderful dining experience and that we were pleased with every aspect of our meal and service. They were the best! The manager checked on us two times as well. Thank you for making this special time extra special for our ladies! We will be back! read more

I've been to a couple of the restaurants in this chain now, and while they're consistent, I'm not sure they're anything special. I stopped in the Amarillo location with some colleagues since we were at a nearby hotel. Service was extremely friendly and attentive, as I've come to expect at their locations, but the food was just average. My starter wedge salad was good. I enjoyed how the various ingredients worked well together, especially the mixture of ranch and balsamic dressings drizzled on top. I avoid red meat, so I had the grilled chicken and shrimp combo as my entree. The chicken was greasy, flat, and flavorless. I pepped it up with what I could, The grilled shrimp were equally as unimpressed: small and flavorless. It wasn't inedible, just nothing special and probably nothing I'd order again. The steak eaters at my table seemed happy with their meals, although we felt a bit rushed toward the end of our meal with the clearing of plates. I probably won't specifically seek out this restaurant again, but the 3 times I've been to them, they've been one of the few options near hotels I've ended up at, and they're at least a consistent choice. read more

Salt grass is my go to for almost any occasion, the food is amazing the staff is polite and always on the ball. I will make up reasons to "celebrate " just so we can go to Saltgrass. The red snapper and Pats ribeye are my current favorite but I've never eaten anything here that was not top notch! And while we are at it let's not forget the best carrot cake to ever cross my lips, people who don't like carrot cake like this carrot cake, and if you are a chocoholic well they have you cover too. read more

I understand we are dealing with Covid however out of four bartenders, a manager and a waitress, no one knew how to make two Manhattan's up one dry with a LEMON twist. It's a shame that the manager didn't deliver the third try or even come back to our table to see that we were happy with the "final" version of a Manhattan (I guess it is the Salt Grass version). This has been my 2nd time going here. The first time was a great experience which was back in dec 2015. This time was even more phenomenal. I was just diagnosed with celiac disease. The staff greeted us, sat us down, and really welcomed us. I told her i had celiac and completely was professional and courteous. She gave me a new menu with so many gluten free choices. Even had GF bread which was delicious. I chosen the cheese burger with lettuce instead of bun and Caesar with no croutons. Definitely loved the service and accommodations they offered. The Google app said this place was open until 9pm. I placed an order through Postmates (through the Google Maps app) for pick up. I got a text message saying my order was ready for pick up. I showed and called inside. The nice lady told me it would be ready in three minutes and that I could pick up my to-go order at the bar. When I got inside they said they closed at 8 and weren't able to fill the order. I told them Postmates processed my payment. I was apologized to and told they were closed "sorry". I then mentioned that I spoke to a lady in the restaurant who told me 3 minutes and I could pick it up at the bar. The barista spoke to a manager and they apologized, then prepared my food for me like o ordered. Obviously a miscommunication between the restaurant and Postmates - but Thank you to the restaurant for making it right!! Food was delicious as always. read more

Wonderful atmosphere inside! The servers are very friendly. Got the IPA draft which was delicious and rather strong. Then shared the silver star porterhouse which was the best steak I've ever had! The salad that comes with it felt fatty but I guess that's Texas. I was even delighted to see that when I asked for rare it really was rare! My dad and I ate here last night on our way through Amarillo to OK City and had phenomenal service and great food. We were in Texas for 400 miles and needed one thing - STEAK. Dad heeded our waiter's (Edward) advice and ordered the rib eye with blue cheese butter which was tender and delicious, and a touch better than my sirloin. But being from CA, anything larger than a 9oz steak I was pretty sure would be the size of Texas on my plate. Edward and be rest of the staff working last night were incredibly nice and attentive. I never even saw close to the bottom of my gallon sized iced tea. AND to seal the deal, my dad left his camera at the table and when we called this morning Greg, the front desk guy working (at 8am!) was very helpful in both locating and setting up shipping back the camera. Who knew a lunch size Chicken Fried Steak was so BIG? While staying at the Holiday Inn West Medical, a number of our group walked over to the Saltgrass for lunch. Oh my! I though steak in TX would be something to not stop talking about. Boy, was I wrong! I was passing through here on my way back home and wanted to take the chance to have good steak. What I had instead was something that did not resemble steak at all. For starters, I am not from TX and also did not look like one when I stopped by so you can imagine all the disapproving looks I received which only made my meal less enjoyable than it was. I ordered the smothered steak, medium. What I got was a dry well-done piece of meat with burnt mushroom pieces on it. Completely charred on the outside and no pink inside. The taste was only of black pepper and nothing more. Served cold with garlic mashed potatoes that had no garlic. I"ve been lucky to travel around and have definitely had better steak elsewhere. The tables are also set a bit too close and you can hear the full conversation around you or get bumped when the person next to you gets up. read more

On a 'jus' passin' thru' trip from LA to Ohio, arrived latish in Amarillo Tx and took ourselves to Saltgrass. A chain, apparently, it sits in a row of steak houses (would never happen in Southern California) in case one is full or you haven't tried the other. First order of business was an icy cold Belvedere martini, hold the tini (vermouth--tastes like feet). Made to perfection and not crazy 'bout the wine list, I had two. Hubs had an old-fashioned and it was perfect as well. I started with the wedge salad, great, not too big, and then I had the baby backs. I never eat a whole rack but I did this time. Great rub, nice crust, falling off the bone as promised. Really didn't need sauce. I did the baked potato with that. Can't go wrong. Hubs had the filet, said it was excellent. Horrible steak. Ordered as medium rare came out with no red at all ZERO and after 15 minutes we had to remind them that we had a replacement on the way. Also ordered potato soup and Brussels sprouts. Lead by example... On a business trip to Amarillo, I stopped in to have some dinner. Walked in around 4:30 and stood at the front of the restaurant for what seemed like 5 minutes before anyone approached me, in fact a young lady who was not even clocked in walked in the door and asked me if I had been helped. There where a group of managers standing at the back of the restaurant in a huddle talking to one another. They looked on my direction while I stood at the door not saying anything or doing anything. When the girl who just walked in, not clocked in yet, approached them, on manager older gentleman with glasses, shooed her in my direction to help me... she may have mumbled about not being clocked in and who was up at the front. He said something and the young lady called out to another person. When I smiled in her direction as she approached, she looked irritated and walked away. To help in seating issues, I took a seat at the bar. As I waited another minute or so to be approached, there was a lady at the other side of the restaurant looking for a server and looking in all directions for help. The manager waived over to another server to go to them, then the server responded that she wasn't sure who's table, but she would help them. Had the manager approached myself, while I waited at the front, he would have had the perfect example to his staff that a Customer is important enough to stop what he is doing to address them AND seat them. He could address "who's on first" later. He continued to waive his hands in the air of why people people aren't approaching guest and attending to tables out of customers view and hearing distance. My ray of light was Jonathan, the smiling and attentive bar tender... didn't skip a beat after he approached me and made me feel welcomed in his restaurant... kudos to you! You are the ONLY reason I stayed... I continued to enjoy my meal because of his service as the food was decent too. Thank you Jonathan!!! Management needs to step up and lead by example! read more

My family loves going to Salt Grass and has never had anything but an enjoyable experience in the midst of excellent food. The wait staff is efficient, spry and eager to please. When they are really busy, say on a Saturday night, the wait can seem longish at times. But well worth the wait as the food is wonderful, wonderful, wonderful.!!
