Went with a friend who had been there before and he said they are known for there fish and chips, especially their halibut and chips. So how could I not order halibut and chips. The menu also contains an assortment of hamburgers, steak, chicken, etc. Looked as if most of the items other then the fish was prepared on a grill. The fish was good. Crisp, not greasy and tasty. Tartar sauce was exceptional but they only give you a small container, you may have to ask for extra. The waitstaff was friendly, attentive and food did not take long. We are locals and went to have dinner with a family member from out of town and waited for over 1.5 hours for food. When we questioned the server, which was the owners daughter, she was very rude back and said "there's nothing I can do". We will NEVER go here again and I wouldn't recommend anyone else going there. This little place did the trick for my family as far as food and customer service go. HOWEVER... there are TV's there, and somehow one show ended and another one started that appeared to be a Magnum PI thing... I wasn't facing the TV but my 10yr old was. Afterwards, he told me he was scared because he saw a dead body on TV. Ugh! It was just a tv show, not real, but still. Not great for dinner ambience, especially for a family that tries to only watch TV during dinner on special movie nights. Had I realized what was going on (I have two other kids including a very boisterous 7mth old, we were all facing the other way), I would've asked them to change the channel. Based on how friendly they were, I'm sure they would've complied. Other than that issue (which I consider to be a pretty big deal when your restaurant is supposed to be good for kids), we thoroughly enjoyed our meals and the waitstaff was very courteous, food was delicious. Service is not the best I've been there about 3-4 times and the waitress only came to the table about 2 times and didn't fill our drinks. Going strictly off last nights visit. I will not be eating there again very soon. The fish and chips is good, but I would NOT order the oysters. My husband did and they did not clean them. The oyster poop was still there and the waitress just kept saying they come in pre shucked. Tried telling her that does not mean they were cleaned. She removed my husbands meal from the bill, but pretty sure she was not happy about that. I will be contacting the owner. I landed in Deer Park by accident. Long story. It was around six pm and I needed some food. My selection was limited to Mcdonalds, pizza, Zips, Thai, and the Salty Dog. I chose The Salty Dog. It was busy with baseball teams and construction workers. The decor was fine, and nautical themed. The specialty is fish. The few empty tables needed busing. The server was overwhelmed. They need to hire more help. Our server was responsible for too much. The food was ok. The bbq burger looked fine. I ordered the prawns and coleslaw. Six prawns and a side are around ten dollars. The prawns are what can be expected for 9 bucks. They closely resemble frozen pre-battered butterfly shrimp. They were fine. However, It made me wish for big fresh prawns that were hand battered. Please hire additional staff for cooking and serving. Fresh food and better service would make this a cool place. read more

Shrimp salad- shrimp were tiny, under cooked, transparent in color-dressing was served in a plastic bag to squeeze out yourself. Chowder was lukewarm and lacked clams and flavor. They are fried to perfection, and the tarter sauce is the perfect blend of tart and creamy. Don't let the outside fool you; the Quonset hut exterior is not the most inviting, but step inside and you won't be disappointed. We've been here multiple times since 2013 and enjoyed the food and the service every time - even when it's been full up. The "crazy" prices mentioned by some of the reviewers doesn't add up for me, clearly they don't go to family dining, but the place is pleasantly comparable to Pioneer's in Wandermere as is the atmosphere. I've never been treated rudely by any of the servers or other staff even when something wasn't quite what we ordered and the right thing came right away. It's definitely not fast food so expect about an hour for a full dining experience, which is pretty comparable no matter where you go for a sit down meal. Last, comments about political signage in the restaurant, I think that's the strangest critique of a restaurant I've ever heard - in addition to being a relevant activity in a small community to publicly display what's going on or up for voting, it's also not a factor for where I purchase my family dining experience. You can't drive anywhere in Seattle without being accosted by signage on every square inch of visual real estate so I'm not sure how that factors in for anyone anywhere unless you simply disagree at which point I'd suggest you not read it, learn how to disagree, or take your business elsewhere. Don't know how possible it is to get any worse service. They charged us $1 for croutons (they weren't on salad and when we asked where croutons were they brought us a side of 8 croutons) and then charged us extra. Salad dressing was pre packaged (kind u rip open). We ordered a side of garlic bread it was $5.95 and came w 5 burnt pieces. It's the kind u buy in a box for $1.99 for 8 pieces. My friend asked for garlic bread w her salad and they forgot it but charged her $1. When we said hey u charged her and never brought it she said oh ya forgot to tell u when U ordered the garlic bread basket we put it in there (they didn't as the side order is 5 pieces and that's all we got). Another person I was with got home and couldn't stop crapping from their burger. Took over an hour to get our meal after we ordered and took over 15 mins for them to even acknowledge we were there. The young lady that took my order was pleasant and took my order accurately. I ordered the fish and chips and went to pick up my order. The decor in this place is actually cool if you like the log cabin look, and I do, but I was in for a shock when it was time to pay the bill. For 3 pieces of mediocre tasting fish, fries and a medium soda was $16.88 in my opinion way overpriced. If you're in Deer Park and looking for something to eat, then go for it.
