Simply put, the food you can cook is predicated by what's in your pantry. That's it. I'm perplexed by the fact that Asian food is still seen as exotic in Miami and restaurants can charge an astronomical amount for food that in other cities would be everyday items. Comparisons are not fair. I learned that from my ex. However, I also don't think it's fair that so many "sceney" restaurants aim to elevate diners' experiences by serving well executed, yet mid-range Asian dishes such as the salt & pepper shrimp and fried rice I recently had at this restaurant. It's become a bit of a formula to have a dj or live act and to cart out (hello nighttime dim sum!) food in a bamboo steamer basket. Listen, I'm all for celebrating Asian cuisine and heritage while aiming for a degree of authenticity. But, to someone who is of this heritage and has had his fair share of Asian food here and elsewhere, this reads facetious and insufferably provincial. Whomever is in charge of the kitchen deserves applause for their hard work delivering a strong interpretation of classic Chinese favorites. Without knowing them, I'd love to think that there are Asians behind this restaurant, but the fact that it it's also a steakhouse pretty much betrays that idea. Michele Visage wisely told one of the contestants in this season's RuPaul's Drag Race that if you're doing too much at once, you're not truly showing what you're capable of. read more

If you have no taste and lack sophistication, then you might enjoy this place. It captures the worst of what Brickell has to offer: overpriced, average food served in an extremely loud spot at a very busy crossroad. You will be surrounded by roaring cars and their obnoxious owners. The blasting music makes any conversation impossible. They tried to make the decor feel "luxurious" (by Miami standards), but please, keep your money and spend it elsewhere. read more

Went here for my boyfriend's birthday and to say I was majorly disappointed and should've gone with so many other good options is an understatement. Food is mid at most, yes it is good and there is some interesting dishes but not really worth it for a piece of stone and 2 pieces of Wagyu for almost $60... There was barely any dishes that surprised us or that really stands out in the menu. Worst part of this restaurant was the service, service was by far THE WORST. We walked in and there was only 2 more tables inside plus us, everyone got their food and their bill and left, yet me and my boyfriend were still sitting waiting for our order.. most ridiculous thing we experienced was that the restaurant was EMPTY entirely and the server after making us wait already 45min to bring just two entrees and after multiple times of telling us "food is coming" proceeds to tell my boyfriend that we have to excuse them because they're REALLY BUSY. That was such a slap on the face, given it the fact that at this point we were the only table inside and only two tables outside... ridiculous. Such a high standard restaurant yet the service is worse than what I get at a food court. Do not recommend, $300+ later and had to basically be made looked like fool by this restaurant. read more

Food was 9/10. Calamari was amazing! Steak cover been slightly crispier on the outside but it was still good. I ordered it medium. The salmon sushi was 10/10 paired with eel sauce. One and done..... we had reservations for 9PM they sat us down at the table and for the next 15 minutes 40 people passed by our table looked and kept walking. no water no service nothing. finally we flagged down a manager and he got someone to help us. the food was just okay not bad but nothing to rave about. it was me and my wife and we had 3 chop sticks asked for one 1 to finish the other pair. we asked for the bacon and they brought out ribs. the place overall is nice but for that price theres way better places we wont be going back. Oh and by the way the ambiance I couldn't tell if it was chill upscale there was even a dog in there. Again one and done. read more

The toilet sitting area is very warm, not very air conditioned properly so expect to be a little warm especially after a couple of sips. It's also the walkway to an actual big restrooms for the whole building. The drinks are VERY pricy but the setting is perfect and makes up for it. Unfortunately, the service was not up to par. Disney priced drinks without the Disney customer service. Do I want to come back? Yes. Am I going to be picky with the vibes coming from the bartender and chose who to go to? Also yes. Hopefully, I can increase the rating.

I'm naturally a pretty social and engaged person, especially when I'm sitting at a bar, and I made an effort to interact with the bartenders. I just didn't really feel that same engagement coming back. Nobody was necessarily rude or disrespectful--it just felt disconnected, and the energy was a little strange to me. I also didn't realize until I tried to pay that the bar doesn't accept cash. Maybe that was posted somewhere and I missed it, and once they told me, it wasn't a big deal. But little things like that, combined with the overall interaction, affected the experience. Another thing I didn't realize until receiving my check was that gratuity was already included. I wasn't verbally told about it, and I personally didn't see it disclosed anywhere beforehand. From my understanding, an automatic gratuity or service charge is required to be disclosed to the guest before the purchase, not something they should only discover when they receive the check. Maybe there was a notice somewhere that I missed, so I'm not saying there wasn't one, but I definitely wasn't aware of it. I think that's an important thing for guests to know upfront, especially because someone could easily add another tip without realizing gratuity was already included. Ironically, the one person I genuinely connected with and had a good conversation with was another guest at the bar, not a member of the staff. That interaction actually helped make my time there more enjoyable. For me, hospitality is about more than serving a drink. Especially when someone is clearly open, friendly, and trying to engage, that's an easy opportunity to create a connection and turn a first-time guest into someone who wants to come back. I felt like I gave plenty of opportunities for that interaction, but it just never really happened. I still had a good time because I can have a good time pretty much anywhere, and nothing happened that would make me say Lost Boys is a bad bar. It just didn't feel like the staff cared much about enhancing the experience beyond serving the drinks. So four stars because I respect what the place is and can see why it works as a neighborhood bar. It just didn't give me a reason to come back, and personally, I don't think I would.

Anywayssss, when I caught the winds that there was a new sound bar in downtown, I NEEDED to be there. The concept of the sound bar is some type of Asian thing, I don't really know. But where in Asia there might be a few monks sitting around in silence listening to gongs or whatever, Miami goes BIG! Finding parking in downtown Miami on a Saturday is virtually impossible unless you bribe a valet servant with cash. So that's what I did. My ladyfriend and I arrived early to the sound bar, and there was already a hearty swarm of brodents and thots lined up to get in. Some crack head outside was shouting about IPA's. I told the door servant that I knew the DJ or something like that, and he let us right in. Once inside, the bar has that edgy big city, small hallway type of vibe. You could barely stand around in there, let alone get to the bar to order a drink. The mix of flapping gums and mixologists concocting cocktails made for a cacophonous distraction from the actual "music" we were there to "listen" to. My ladyfriend and I ducked out across the street to Black Market Miami Bar where the game was on and you could actually order a drink that didn't cost $50+. After a few libations, we headed back to Miami Sound Machine Bar (they need to put 'Miami' in every bar's name down here in case you forget where you are). There was a weird looking guy playing depressing vinyls with singing in different languages. I was more in the mood for something upbeat and groovy like salsa or merengue that I could dance to with my girls. Although I did hear the 12" Andrew Weatherall remix of Happy Mondays "Hallelujah" at some point, a staple at the Haçienda nightclub in Manchester - an institution that shook the music world and changed club culture forever. The head servant at the bar looked like Nirvana (yes, one man looking like a whole band). He was jaded and rude. I don't blame him! As the night wore on, the crowd got larger and more deplorable, and the room got smaller and smaller. I got stuck in an awkward conversation waiting to use the bathroom. I don't think sound bars are for me. Pros: The bar across the street had really fair drink prices, and the servants are polite and efficient. Cons: the ratchet yuppies that inhabit Miami's nightlife, always on the prowl to ruin a subculture with their tackiness.

Really beautiful atmosphere and overall a nice dinner in Brickell. The 45oz tomahawk was easily the highlight for us--we ordered it medium and it came out perfectly cooked, tender, and great for sharing. We also tried the hamachi tacos, siu mai, branzino, and a few other dishes. The NY steak roll was much more raw than I expected, even though we were told that's how it's prepared, so I'd keep that in mind if you prefer your steak medium. The portions were insultingly tiny, with the exception of the chicken salad. The salmon tacos contained what tasted like salmon "paste," and each taco shell was barely two inches long. They were so ridiculously small that even our waiter chuckled. The "half Maine lobster" was about the size of a jumbo shrimp, with no claw. The main course came with no sides so for $65 jumbo shrimp that was it. If you actually want a meal expect to pay extra for "fried" rice that was super bland and churrasco 10 oz extra at $12. So my steak meal was $87 and for that I could have had a real upscale experience at Daniel's in the Gables with upscale service and food. The experience started poorly when the four of us were seated at an awkward, cramped table with no legroom. We were positioned facing outward instead of toward one another, making normal conversation nearly impossible. It was a very strange setup for a party of four. Also, it was very warm in the restaurant and I would have asked to adjust but at the look at the servers face and everyone else I was afraid to say anything that something would happen to my food. The hostess also forgot to give us the Miami Spice menu. As soon as we requested it, the waiter's attitude noticeably changed, and the service went downhill from there. By the end of the night, the restaurant was overcrowded, with a very young crowd pouring into the bar area, and everything felt disorganized and poorly managed. Miami Spice used to be a wonderful way to experience Miami's better restaurants. Unfortunately, this felt more like a complete rip-off than a special dining experience. Komodo did not deliver the quality, portions, service or atmosphere its prices and reputation suggest. They should not be participating in Miami Spice as they have no upscale food to offer. My only regret is I didn't take pictures for potential customers to see how terrible this experience was and food looked. This was highly disappointing,,,save your money.

I enjoyed the show occasionally as a guilty pleasure, but I'm really not big into the whole reality TV does dining type of thing, however my hubs has had Hell's Kitchen on his must eat list for years. We never made it to the one in Vegas last year, so I thought Id treat him to lunch at this yesterday after a work event he was honored at. After yesterday's experience, I have no problem admitting I was wrong and will wholeheartedly walk that sentiment back. Hell's Kitchen impressed me, which if you've read my reviews isn't always an easy thing to do. The food flavors were all on point, service was exceptional, and the coursing time hit the mark from start to finish. The only reason this is 4 stars and not 5, is hubby's main was not very hot. There were only a handful of tables at the time so that element was a bit disappointing. I opted for Miami Spice, and hubs picked the Express lunch which comes out to a better deal for what he ordered. We never had to look for a server for water, and they were really accommodating in adjusting my order (I have to have sauces on side and low salt right now because of a health issue). On to the main event, the meal! Drinks: Strawberry & Mint Spritz: This N/A bev sounded interesting on paper but neither of us super enjoyed it. It was just a little too syrupy sweet. I love that they're using N/A prosecco and apertivos though and not just putting a bunch of juice and sodas in a cup and calling it a mocktail. If we ever make it back I'd be up for trying a different one on the list or a real deal cocktail. Caesar salad: This was a generous portion with delicate parmesan crisps and large crunchy croutons. The limited amount of dressing I did use was delicious and perfectly balanced. I skipped most of the croutons as they were too salty for me, but probably perfect for the average Joe. Carrot soup: My guy enjoyed this thoroughly, and stopped short of licking the bowl. I tried it, but it wasn't my cup of tea. The presentation was lovely. Crispy Skin Salmon: This was my choice from the Miami Spice menu. It's miso marinated and served with a crispy sushi rice cake, sautéed baby bok choy, and a miso beurre blanc which they put on the side for me. I asked for the fish to be cooked well done, and they nailed that. It was perfection on the tongue and still delicate and moist in spite of being fully cooked. The skin was expertly crisp as well and really tasty. The only negative of this dish was the oil factor. Salmon is oily on its own, but this plate was dripping from the rice cake to the bok choy, and that's omitting the beurre blanc entirely. Speaking of, everything was so flavorful on its own that the dish carried itself without any extra salt or sauce. I did try the beurre blanc with a few bites though and it was nice. Petit Beef Wellington: Aside from not being hot enough, hubby overall enjoyed this. He prefers a lumpy skin on mash, but I thought the mash purée was divine. We just both wish it was hotter when it came out. Cherry Blossom Cheesecake: I haaaate that almond extract taste found in cherry cordials, and this was loaded with it from my one bite. Thankfully I didn't order this. Hubs did, and loved it! Also the plating was beautiful! Sticky Toffee Pudding: Was this the best STP I've ever had? No. Was it enjoyable? Absolutely! In hindsight, I wish hubs had gotten the 2 course express menu and split this dessert with me because it's full size and a massive overload of sugar for one person. I barely ate a quarter and ended up in a sugar coma the rest of the day. Would I still order it again? You bet your sweet ass! To wrap this up, this was a surprisingly enjoyable meal. The check still packed a punch though at $150 for two with one mocktail. Overall I do think it's a great pick for a nicer meal with upscale British and European favorites with a global inspired twist.

The steak was cooked perfectly, and the tuna tartare was definitely one of my favorites. And of course, we had to get the espresso martinis they were SO good and the perfect addition to dinner. A special shoutout to Luis Miguel, who took such great care of us! He was attentive, friendly, and made the whole experience even better. The middle was medium rare but too much of the ends was overcooked. Also tried the branzino, was I thought was better than both the steak and the burger. Flavorful and cooked just right. Ossobuco seems to be very popular these days and for some people it may be a good date night spot, I just didn't love it. Would give it 3.5/5 if I could. I would note that the manager was quite nice as he thanked us for our visit on the way out.

The setting, décor, and atmosphere create high expectations, but unfortunately the food did not live up to them. We started with a pizza at the bar. The dough tasted undercooked and lacked the texture and flavor I would expect from a properly prepared pizza crust. The cheese was also disappointing and didn't really come together with the pizza. Later, at our table, we ordered the hamachi. The fish itself was fresh and good, but the preparation completely overwhelmed such a delicate ingredient. The hamachi was cut surprisingly thick and chunky, while the relish was excessive and heavy. The peppers in the relish were also roughly and unevenly chopped, with noticeably large pieces. A finer, more consistent cut and a much lighter hand with the relish would have allowed the hamachi to actually shine. For a restaurant of this caliber, I expected considerably more precision, balance, and attention to detail from the kitchen. Beautiful restaurant and wonderful atmosphere, but sadly, the food was the disappointing part of the experience.
