We had three days of meetings at work and to my surprise the lunch on the first day was catered by tacos by Manny. The choices were beef or chicken tacos flour or corn tortillas. He had grilled onion and zucchini at the front and I side "fixings" area that had sooooooo many choices. I just wanted everything on my plate! They had several types of salsa, guacamole, onions, cilantro, radishes, pickled spicy carrots, cucumbers and I'm sure I am missing something. Oh yeah! Sour cream. The food was great (albeit cold), the rest was not. I have given the owner an opportunity to address the issue, and they have not. I reserved weeks in advance. I had asked for 12:15 PM delivery. The owner let me know the day of they would arrive around noon. That's not what I requested but I didn't fuss. The delivery driver showed up at at 11:45. My event began at 12. So now it's 30 minutes early. I was annoyed but he assured me the food would stay hot. What else was I going to do besides allow it?? I adjusted the entire agenda of the event to accommodate eating earlier than I liked and without all the guests having arrived. I paid the balance of the bill and tipped $80. I opened all the food and prepared to serve and then realized the driver left ZERO serving utensils. I am at a venue, not a residence and they knew that. I called the owner and he eventually assured me the driver was on his way back. We wrapped the food back up. I am fully embarrassed at this time. He showed back up 25 minutes later with only a few serving utensils. They were metal which tells me they never had any to begin with to leave. We had to serve some items with plastic cups. Rather I was throwing a raging party or just having friends over for the Super Bowl, not only did Manny show up, HE SHOWED OUT! I went to my friends bridal party and she had hired Manny for her party. Manny was great and the food was on point! I got his information so I could hire him in the future. Three weeks later I hired Tacos by Manny for my sons birthday party. He told me they would take approximately 45 mins- 60 mins to set up. They showed up at 12 and weren't ready to start serving until 1:30. This wouldn't be a huge deal if the party is 5-6 hours long but for a party that is only from 12-3 it's a big deal as I didn't have a lot of appetizers anticipating that food would be served shortly after the party started. I was disappointed in the quality of the meat, I kept getting giblets/fatty chewy pieces. How embarrassing!!! I spent over $5000 on my party and to have cheap meat served to my guests is the ultimate embarrassment. Also they quickly ran out of chicken!!! I even had less guests than I had mentioned to him and they ran out of chicken immediately..what the heck!! That's crazy when chicken and beef tacos were the only options that I was serving my guests. I was told there would be enough to serve each guest 5-7 tacos...most of my guests had 2-3..how did they run out of chicken? Also I do not eat pork and stated I did not want any lard in the beans or for anything to be cooked with lard. Manny confirmed they would not be using lard. Embarrassingly enough, my sister in law asked if the beans they were serving had lard and they confirmed it did.. Talk about disappointing!!! Where to begin? Excited to be retiring and hosting a party I was given Manny's card by a friend who shared how great he was and how delicious the food was. I reached out in early May for a party on the 19th of June. We confirmed the date on May 5th. Manny shared via email that he would reach out the week of my event. I sent him an email on the 6/14 and did not hear back until 6/17. He stated that his crew would arrive between 3:45-4:00 for set up and food service to begin at 5:00. My guests began arriving and enjoying the plentiful appetizers, desserts, and beverages we had provided. By 4:20 I was alarmed and texted to ask where the crew was. It was then I remembered a strange call that I had not answered earlier in the day. I had not recognized the name (which was NOT Manny), or the number in National City. I checked my voice mail and discovered that it had been Manny calling me to say there was a problem. He asked me to call right back, that he wasn't trying to cancel, but that he had some staffing issues and offered to provide already cooked food instead of the made to order tacos we had agreed upon. Now I understand that things happen, and clearly when staff is stranded south of the border there isn't much that can be done. Here's what I don't understand. I repeatedly called Manny after hearing the voice mail (and yes it wasn't at 1:20 when he left it, but it was immediately after listening and realizing his crew wasn't coming). I even had a friend who was attending my party call his number over and over. He never answered. I have still not had a reply to my text, nor a call back after I left a voice mail. I am so very thankful that I had plenty of apps/desserts/drinks, because that's ALL I had to offer my guests. Manny catered our friends' 30th birthday yesterday and those tacos were superb. Both the carne asada and chicken tacos were delicious, with great sides of rice, beans, and grilled veggies.
