This review is as much about Parker's Table as Salume Beddu. The later is located in the specialty foods store known as Parker's Table. From what I can tell Salume operates the small deli at the back of the store from about 10am-2pm each day Parker's is open. They have special meats and cheeses that are turned into fantastic sandwiches that rival the best you can get in the St Louis area. Their Italian sausage is a favorite of mine and I almost always have some in the freezer. I like all their sandwiches but over the summer they were doing a BLT that has no peer. Besides the bacon from their butcher shop they also used thick slices of heirloom tomatoes that were ripe and full of flavor. That extra touch with tomatoes you normally have to grow on your own did it for me. read more

I'm so glad I made it to this small sandwich shop that I've been wanting to eat out for a long time and it was worth the wait. The sandwich I ordered was called the Speck (German for bacon) and was phenomenal and the combination of cured meats, specialty mustard, a bit of preserved lemon and melted Gouda cheese was a perfect combo and was as good as many sandwiches I've ate at in parts of Spain and Italy I've traveled to. It's not a huge sandwich but the portion was just right for me to have a nice lunch along with a bag of gourmet chips. I'm sure that I'll be coming back sooner rather than later so that I can try other great sandwiches at Salume Beddu for sure. One thing about this location that wasn't obvious is where to dine inside the store and so the counter service person steered me to their back dining room that was no frills as far as ambience but that's fine by me. read more

I gave it another try today. I went with that blonde being feared by cows and chickens near and far: my sweet mother. We shopped Parker's Table and did a tasting and then headed to the back for what she really wanted: a sandwich. All sandwiches come with her favorite snack in the world: chips. They also come with a soda. I let her pick out the chips and soda--I like chips but she's an enthusiast, and it takes me so long to drink a soda that I decided to send mine home with her. So... I asked if they could modify the sole vegetarian sandwich to include something other than eggplant. (I like it, but it doesn't like me back.) They offered to include more peppers. I acquiesced. My mother ordered the special, which was chicken and... I don't know what. We went to the next room, Parker's Table's event space, to eat. The sandwiches were hot. That was unexpected and most welcome! That alone gets a star. My sandwich was good--mozzarella, greens, peppers. It was missing something, though. No, not eggplant. I think it needed some crunch. The chips did the trick; I put them in the sandwich. I don't recall the brand of chips, but the two kinds we had, salt/pepper/vinegar and buttercream/onion (or something like this) were both quite good. We both preferred the former, but the latter won't go to waste, be assured. I'd like Salume Beddu to offer grilled cheese and more cheeses with their vegetarian sandwich. One of the best sandwiches I've had in St. Louis Was just a place to buy salume inside a great wine & cheese shop (Parker's Table supermarket), but opened up a walk up sandwich counter in the back. Each sandwich comes with chips and a drink. All sandwiches are made with in-house meats. They are not huge, but they are delicious. The best seller is the prosciutto cotto, but they were sold out when I went so I ordered their Salami sandwich instead. All of the ingredients were fresh, and it was overall phenomenal. Marking another one off the Ian Froeb's STL 100 List and this one I may repeat again and again. The first time I dropped by for lunch they were out of the ingredients for Ian's "must order", Prosciutto Cotto sandwich. The cool guy working, recommended The Beddu Muffaletta. So I trusted him and gave it a try. I enjoy Muffulettas at other sandwich shops, so why not here. It was excellent. I liked that they served it with Croccantini's instead of potato chips. However, I will tell you when I returned for my second visit and was able to have the Prosciutto, it was instant love. It was the closest a sandwich has ever brought me to a food-garam. The sandwich itself is small, but it is mighty. The bread was so fresh and the mixture of salumi with gruyere, pickled onions and grain mustard made my knees go weak. I'm typically not a sandwich guy, but this one has my heart. Now that I have discovered it, I think it will be a weekly thing. One of the best lunch deals in town! A fantastic sandwich with small batch chips and San Pellegrino for $10 blew my mind. I have tried their products at the farmer's market and decided to stop in after seeing them on the top 100 list. I got the salami sandwich which was the perfect amount of salty and the bread was crusty on the outside and soft on the inside. I loved it! I was able to wander around Parker's Table while I waited, which wasn't long it came out pretty quickly. Living close by I will definitely be adding this as a regular lunch option. First visit. Plenty of parking in strip mall. Small place, but a few picnic tables to hang out at inside. I got the prosciutto sandwich and the salami sandwich. Both were served warm on soft bread. My favorite was the salami. I could eat another one of those right now. The flavors were amazing and so tasty. Also picked up a few of their most popular salami packs that didn't require refrigeration. They recommend chilling for a few hours to make it easier to slice. They were gifts so I didn't try them but I will return for a sandwich and some take home treats. They had plenty of meat options, cheese, and other spreads. Staff was super friendly. The sandwiches are really good, and the meat cuts are flavorful enough that you don't need heaping amounts of them. I tried the Speck and Salami sandwiches. I also bought some of the cured meats from Parker's Table after placing my lunch order at the Salume Beddu counter. It did take about 10 minutes of me waiting around for someone in the back to acknowledge my existence until I could order (this was well after the posted 11 am lunch starting hour...), which was really not okay, so I can't give 5 stars for that experience. It was okay. Cool place to shop and peruse. My salami sandwiches standards are pretty high where even Gioia's doesn't cut it, so with that I found the sandwiches mildly above average. I planned a cheese and local charcuterie board for us all to snack around for one meal as everyone arrived at Christmas. I took out a loan and stopped at Whole Paycheck for the cheese and olives, then went to Salume Beddu so I could feature St Louis made meat products. What a great place. I almost bought some of everything. I ended up with Soppressata Siciliano, Coppa Romana and Lonza which are larger format and they slice to order. Actually we had so much food that these are the ones I served. I really liked the sopresseta with the fennel, but all were very good. The meats that they sliced were tissue thin and almost melted in your mouth. I can tell you that a six ounce order yields a lot of slices. If you want variety, I would suggest four ounces of each. Also ask them to slice your small salames. I also ended up with small chubs of Sopressa da Veneto, Calabrese Salame, Finocchiona Salame, dry cured Spanish style chorizo. In addition I bought three styles of salsiccia; Fiama, Bolognese and Diavolini plus some Guanciale style pork belly. The young woman who waited on me spoke in bursts up to 5000 words per minute and I had to ask her to slow down and explain a few things, but she was super nice and super helpful. I am continually disappointed by domestic imitations of French and Italian cheeses, these sausage products are the real deal. The folks at Salume Beddu know what they are doing. In all I bought 11 different sausages and that is not all they offer in the meat case. Besides that they have some Italian specialty groceries. Luv this place! Located in an oddly shaped strip mall on S. Hampton, this small deli is so much better when you walk in the door! They have a harvest table and they offer a small selection of sandwiches, daily bruschetta's and a daily vegetarian special, all using handcrafted meats and delicious cheeses!. They also have items to go like amazing salami, pancetta, various meats, cheeses, spreads and other awesome items. Most are prepared in house. I luv the mostarda beddu, it's a spread that has dates, raisins, mustard seed and other goodies. It's homemade and awesome on aged cheese and meats. I also bought the fig tapenade and used it the same way. The salami is cured in house and is flavored with whole peppercorns and other scrumptious ingredients. They make a really nice, artisinal sandwich - and I say that as a compliment, not a dig. While Salume Beddu is essentially a counter at the rear of Parker's Table, there are tables and benches that allow you to eat in. I ordered the porchetta sandwich, which has high quality pork accented nicely with spices and a not too hot horseradish sauce. The cheese was mild and seemed to have a slight smokiness, and the crispy warmed bread set it all off nicely. Sandwich orders come with your choice of any bag of chips (of which there is a good variety), and what I especially liked - any drink in the cooler, including bottled soda and flavored carbonated water bottles. So the prices were pretty reasonable when including chips and a drink. I did think that while the sandwich was very good, it could have been a bit larger. This review is _strictly_ for the lunch experience. After much angst of reading so many great reviews (and having it at some restaurants), I was excited to take the beautiful wife here for lunch today (it's one of the few times we're able to get there). Huge mistake. I can only make the parallel to a waiter thinking he can be a chef because he's around food all the time. For Salume Beddu, being around meats doesn't make you a deli. I think they're a bit over the heads and really ought to stick with what they know (or get somebody who knows how to run a deli take care of things). Today's visit was a disaster -- the line was backed up being a patron was doing the "I want to place an order for next week, I want 1/4 pound of this, this, this, that, not that, maybe that..." etc. To his credit, one of the owners did come over and say "maybe you could come in another time?" And the patron did agree to wait until people ordering lunch were taken care of. But having a dual-purpose establishment with only one person to directly help the public doesn't make things smooth. Now, normally, if that was the only negative bit, they'd be getting many more stars. But our sandwiches? Not good. I had the speck and Fontina, which also had some slices of preserved lemon on it. The sandwich was toasted, but to the point of being burnt in some areas. Char doesn't bother me, what did was that it completely overwhelmed any other flavors (except for the lemon). It wasn't horrible, but for a place that's all about the meat, to mask it was a damn shame. The beautiful wife had the coppa and some cheese sandwich. I don't know if she's going to write a review or not, but I have to note that Jaws from the James Bond movies couldn't bite through this puppy. The amount of fat/rind/whatever just made it pretty much impossible. As for sides, well, you get a couple of pickle spears. Yay. For drinks, there's water or San Pellegrino offerings (Aranciata and Limonata). In terms of cost, it was two sandwiches and two drinks for $30.00. It's just wasn't worth it. While I can't pronounce 90% of the menu - I haven't put anything in my mouth from here I haven't liked. Killer sausage and cured meats, just don't skip the accompaniments. But the best thing I've had is the bacon. Thick and meaty, with herbs. If you want the ribs, they say it's about every other Saturday, but you can call Friday to see if they will be available. Over the weekend I had a sausage pizza at Three Sixty, using Salume meats, and it was a perfect showcase of how damned good this place is. Not cheap - but this place was written up in Forbes. Totally agree with Tim G. on this one. This space is not set up for eat in service. And for the price, you can get a much better lunch experience elsewhere. First of all, the space is cramped. After placing our order, we ended up taking the last little table... which I think actually was a plant stand with two chairs next to it. As people walk in, there really is nowhere for them to go. So I ended up with asses in my face for the next 10 minutes while waiting for our food. The chef/owner seems nice, and comes out to greet regulars, which is great an all, but that just extended the ass-to-face time while they chit chatted. Also, this chef is walking around in open back house slippers, with no socks. Kinda gross. Anyway, the food came out. The sandwich was simple. The meat & cheese place was high quality. But we spent $35. I could have gone to a deli on the hill and spent that for 6 people. Again... the meats here were good. This place is Mecca A porky gastronomic delight that EVERYONE in St Louis should bow down to and be thankful that they have a place like this. Everyone there is so freakin' nice! (yes mom, it's the Chicagoan whom reminded you of a cousin of yours), but they genuinely are. On a bent knee St Louis, you have a place making the best Coppa this side of the Atlantic. Yes, Mario Battali's father's Coppa, isn't as good as what you have got in your backyard. The pork belly will make you realize as to why some religions deem pork illegal/ against beliefs to consume. Yea, it's that good. The guanciale is ridiculously good. When I got back to Chicago, i made a proper Pasta Ala Carbonarra with some of it and the resounding verdict was... The guanciale is brilliant. So was the pasta, but couldn't have done it without this amazing larded treasure. This joint has an amazing charm, an honest LOVE for what they do and they do it incredibly. Breads are terrific, these salumes are AMAZING. And everyone involved is just SO FREAKIN' NICE! All that was missing when hanging out with the girls Mom and Dad was a bottle of wine, we were having such a nice time chatting the afternoon away. St Louis, be thankful that your hard-scrabble city produces amazing talent like this; that stay and want to develop something in their hometown, and do it better than even what I can find in Chicago. Thanks to Ale and her (his?) sole review of this strangely named shop, we decided to stop by last weekend to get some cured meat. To our disappointment the salami wasn't ready (no!!) but we left with three packages of salsiccia and half a pound of prosciutto, which we sampled and were instantly in love with. At $24 a pound the prosciutto is a real steal in comparison to the small packets that you buy from Schnucks and Dierbergs. The shop is small and lovely. They also sell bread, olive oil and other similar items in the front area. We actually drove past the place the first time due to the lack of noticeable signs. Its name was printed on a medium sized white canvass that hung from the bottom of the roof. It was in a cursive font and hardly visible from the road. There were no other signs/open indications. I recall the shop spaces to its left in the small strip mall were empty. If you blink once you would definitely miss the place so take your GPS! read more

Sorry, I was very disappointed. I'd been looking forward to trying Salume Beddu for a while, and when I finally did, I was greatly disappointed. First, I'll state that I'm generally easy to please, and this is the first 'bad' review I've written on Yelp. Here's why: 1 - I ordered "The Beast" sandwich. I'm not sure why it's called The Beast, but certainly not because of portion size. The sandwich was certainly skimpy, not satisfying at all. 2- I expected a 'grander' sandwich for $9.00, not a snack. The portion size was meager. And the board listed the sandwich for $8.50, not the $9.00 I was charged. 3 - And speaking of cost, the daily sandwich special featured carmelized onions, which I love, so I asked to try some on the side with my Beast sandwich. I was charged a hefty $1 for what amounted to be one sample bite of carmelized onion. 4 - On to the sandwich. Again, it was very skimpy. Not big, and not a lot of meat. The grain mustard was very strong and overpowering. ...and I even like mustard. The roasted peppers were so miniscule they were practically non-existent. I picked up some salami (the Veneto) and the Berkshire bacon at the Tower Grove farmer's market yesterday. I can safely say these are the two most delicious pork products that have ever passed my lips. The bacon deserves special consideration. It's like it was the first time I've ever tasted bacon. My first trip here today surprised I didn't find out about this place sooner. I moved from philly where I had several sandwich shops like this near me so I was really excited to hear this place was so close to my home and the location I am working from for the next few weeks. I am not a cured meat expert except to say I haven't found any I don't like. I got the salami sandwich today as recommended by the girl at the counter. She was Very knowledgable about the sandwich and accoutrement. Waited only a few moments sitting at one of the tables. Cute little space, a little tight. Got my sandwich and it was amazing. Was a little surprised by the amount of meat on the sandwich. I know this is way higher quality meat than traditional deli meat but I thought for a $10 sandwich it should have been a little more. Also of note this was some of the best bread I have had since I moved here go Saint Louis. Had lunch here today, and what an amazing store! Got the muffuletta. It was half of a whole sandwich, but plenty of food with chips, and a drink included. The muffuletta is excellent! My only complaint would be not enough olive sauce. If I were to order it again I will ask if they can load it on. A true New Orleans muffuletta is pilled on. Which makes the sandwich. This is definitely a close resemblance. Just lacking in one small, but important area. Other than that. I will be back. read more

Salume Beddu serves up the highest quality cured meats I've sampled in St. Louis. We've come here for their sandwiches and both my husband I found the food to be incredibly tasty and high quality. It's a very small space and not glamorous by any means but if you're ordering a sandwich meant to be served hot (the oh so delicious meatball) it's totally worth it to take the time to devour it here. I'm actually sort of glad that it's not a huge space because it feels like such a hidden gem coming here. We look forward to returning. read more

I went in yesterday for some sausage. There were 2 people in front of me who wanted to taste everything so it took forever. After about 20 minutes I started being waited on. I asked to try a couple of sausage's, which I did, and they were good. I purchased some Salametti and a wonderful cracker called Croccantini. I also ordered some other sausage and one of their cheeses. Maybe I got my nose out of joint because it took so long and I was expecting to go in and get out, instead they went back and forth between customers and I was in there over an hour, and not by choice. THIS, my friends, is where you MUST go if you're looking for salume. Hands down, the best salume I've ever had. Log-O-Beef and Beef Log have nothing on SB...! The pictures on the SB Twitter page are just straight-up food porn. The staff working there truly enjoy what they do and are incredibly knowledgeable. We went there twice to procure items for a cheese/charcuterie plate. We had the Veneto, the Chorizo, and the Finnochiona per the staff's request, along with cheese pairings, and the Croccantini. At both parties, our cheese/charcuterie plates were a hit. They went faster than anything else, and we barely got any of it!! We also got the 'nduja and all I can say is...wow. That's some damn good hot s*&%! We learned very quickly that if you pair the 'nduja with a little bit of Salume Beddu's ricotta, and a small amount of something sweet, that whole balance is absolutely awesomely delightful! I was excited to see Gerard Craft's tweet on a 'nduja pizza at Pastaria. You better believe I'm gonna have me some of that... All in all, thank you SB! What can I say that other reviewers haven't? Salume Beddu produces the most amazing salumi I have had. Their varieties rotate, but there is always an abundance of great choices. The bacon, pancetta, and chorizos are also great. The cheeses they sell are out of this world (if not pricey). The best part is that their salumi is about the same price as Volpi or Columbus salumi, but with artisans crafting their product from heritage and humane meat. Unlike the gloppy, provel-infested food on The Hill, this is authentic and artisan food. read more

If I was really rich, I would go to Salume Beddu and stock pile my pantry with specialty batch chips, sauces and delicatessens. This shop is amazing... I've never met a sandwich here I didn't love, the meats and cheeses are flippin' amazing and the staff is really helpful. The only downside is that the prices are kind of high-- but it's what you would expect for high quality. read more

Salume Beddu does incredible stuff - they take locally grown, humanely-raised meats and cure them into delicious sausages, salamis, and others. They bake their own bread with a 100 year-old starter. And they're friendly and encourage you to sample and enjoy. Everything I've had from here has been fantastic. I was even moved to join the Cure Club and I now have exclusive access to a quarterly cured meat basket. Pretty cool. They're still ironing out the kinks on the retail side...the lady who rang me up couldn't figure out how to give me change. But I'm sure they'll take care of this soon. read more

I've eaten here many, many times and find it to be a wonderful hidden little treasure. There is almost no seating here so plan on sitting outside or getting it to go! Also, look for their products in and around St Louis - and Chicago. read more
