What an amazing place. Kinda out the way and small. There is no indoor seating. It's located in a nice neighborhood, but this was exactly what I needed. Not a lot of menu items, but they absolutely nailed it. I ordered the Pete with the recommendation of Mike. Man I must say that was an amazing sandwich and it was just how I like it. Perfect amount of cheese and meat. The sauce wasn't dripping everywhere but just enough. Cindy helped ring us up and she was so sweet. We chatted and she showed us what they have besides sandwiches and even gifted us a loaf of bread. I had passed this small deli in Glendale dozens of times while driving in to Kirkwood. I've always had a soft spot for delis, so it was just a matter of time before I stopped in. One Saturday I took my kids to Kirkwood park and decided to stop in at Vitale's on the way home. I'm so glad that I did! The shop isn't anything fancy, there is a counter inside and then a handful of tables outside. It is primarily a to go joint which is pretty standard for delis. It gives off the vibe that you should just stroll up from the neighborhood and grab something to eat, chat for a while with other locals, and then head home. It has a nice, no frills vibe that I really enjoyed. The sandwiches are pretty typical for an Italian Deli with most of them featuring variations of lunchmeat. I'm always a sucker for meatball sandwiches though so that is what I got with a side of chips. It was outstanding. The meatballs were GIANT and they were the right texture. It was large enough that I had to split it across two meals. The owner was really nice when I was inside and talked to both of my kids. My kids were so well behaved they convinced me to buy them a cannoli on the way out the door. Over this shop fills its niche well, the shop was clean, the staff was friendly, and the food was good. I love Vitales Deli. I grew up down the street and I totally wish this was here when I was younger. The quality of their products are high and it's absolutely delicious. The variety of sandwiches they offer are wide, and they also offer good sides like pasta and potato salad. The bread is fresh from the hill, and they have frozen options to take home as well. There isn't a ton of seating nearby and it seems to be more of an order and go place, but it was a nice day so we sat outside. This place is great! We've tried it twice since we moved back to the area. This place is only a 10 minute walk from our house, and that's so cool to me. It's awesome to see a locally-owned restaurant that you can walk or bike to, it seems like everything nowadays is so car-dependent. The atmosphere is nothing fancy, a very small space with some outdoor patio tables. However, the service is great. Both times I've been, they've asked how my days been and even thrown in some free items to sample. It's awesome to actually feel welcomed in an establishment. The sandwiches are great, they use the bread from Vitale's Bakery (they are owned by the same family). I've tried the Crazy Frank (okay, not my favorite), Glendale Club (good, basic), The Steve Pastrami (really good), and The Charlie Roast Beef (really good au jus). My only complaint is that the sandwiches are pretty bread heavy, but I just pick the bread out. Come early in the day, they sell out a ton and close early sometimes! I found this place while looking for a nearby butcher. I thought I'd stop in and see if they had what I wanted. It is clean and there are many items there that someone going to a deli would want. In fact, we bought several items and I was happy until I decided to get a salad for my dinner. The lady who made the salad did not go to the sink and wash her hands, she reached barehanded into the salad mix and all of the items that went in my salad. At no time did she use gloves or wash her hands. I got the Italian salad and there was a ton of meat and tomatoes. It looked like a great salad, and it was I ended up with. Remainder of meat (a lot) not lettuce which pleased me. Also bought a bag of Michigan cherry potato chips and OMG they are fantastic. Other items purchased, bacon, brats, pickles, cheese etc haven't been tried yet but all looked fresh.. I would like to give more stars but I just can't with the way my salad was prepared. read more

Everything about my experience at Vitale's Deli was absolutely lovely! I visited on a Saturday around noon, and an employee said that they were almost sold out for the day. Glad I made it in time! The interior of the restaurant is very small. There's no tables inside, but there's a small bench for waiting. They also have some nice seating options outside. This is more of a grab-and-go spot. Vitale's offers a great menu selection. I ordered the The Zach, which includes Black Forest turkey, provolone cheese, tomato, and onion, and it's toasted and topped with pesto. Wow! This is a fabulous sandwich. I especially loved their fresh bread slight toasted. My partner ordered The Annie Turkey, which includes pepper turkey, mozzarella cheese, lettuce, onion, tomato, pickles, topped with a Cajun-styled mayonnaise. He loved his sandwich as well. They also offer a great variety of chips to go along with your sandwich. I personally loved my Rosemary & Olive Oil chips. Each sandwich comes with a side, so we chose potato salad. Also very good! The most memorable part of my experience was the very end. As we were grabbing our sandwiches and preparing to walk out the door, one of the employees, possibly an owner, handed us a free loaf of bread. I ended up using it to make sandwiches for my lunches throughout the week, and it was perfect! This kind gesture affirmed my theory that Vitale's Deli is a friendly neighborhood favorite. This is a cute, quaint store in Glendale. The inside is very clean, and I was greeted when I entered. I had looked at the menu before, so I knew what I wanted. I ordered the one that was close to a Reuben, on marble rye, with lettuce, tomato, pickle, and onion. The side I chose was potato salad, and I was happy I did. They only use Boars Head products. The bread was super soft and fresh. The sandwich was good, as was the potato salad. The owner who made the sandwich was friendly and quick. So was the young man who I paid. Vitale's is an adorable, family owned Italian sandwich shop in Glendale. The owner and his family were preparing the sandwiches behind the counter. They were so nice and personable! We restrained ourselves and only ordered 4 sandwiches: "The Annie" Turkey, "The Gracie" Meatball, "The Zach" and "The Pete". The Zach and the meatball are both warm sandwiches and were my favorite! The bread is soft on the inside but crusty on the outside. The veggies are all fresh and the sandwiches are extremely filling. They each come with a side. The pasta salad was our favorite! My friends who were born and raised in St. Louis told me that Vitale's Deli is their all-time favorite deli, so I had to try it out for myself. We ordered the Muffaletta, Italian sandwich, and cannoli a few weeks ago. The parking lot is small but it was easy to find a parking spot. We had called ahead to order but when we arrived they said they forgot to start the order, so we waited a few minutes for our sandwiches. The muffaletta was delicious with tangy olives, TONS of fresh mortadella, ham, and salami, on thick wheat bread. I liked my husband's "The Pete" italian sandwich which had thick layers of ham, salami, roast beef, drizzled with tangy Italian dressing, and cheese. All of the meat and bread was so fresh. From the moment we walked in and were greeted, we had such a pleasurable experience. The owner even came outside where we were eating to chat. It wasn't a brief "is everything ok" type interaction either; he seemed genuinely interested in speaking with us. It really added to the charm of this deli. The sandwiches were awesome. The meat used at Vitale's Deli is super high quality and you can tell that it was freshly sliced. THE BREAD IS SO GOOD!!! It was fresh. It was crisp. It was soft. I could have eaten a whole loaf of the bread at Vitale's Deli. But the true standout of the meal were the sides. Since we wanted to try both the pasta salad and the potato salad, we each got one. WOWOWOWOWOWOWOW. Please fill a truckbed of that potato salad and force feed the whole thing to me. I want more of it right now. It was creamy and light. The potatoes were tender. The veggies were crisp without being obnoxious. And there was just an ever so slight hint of mustard. I thought nothing could top the potato salad, but the pasta salad came damn close! I don't know what dressing is used in this magical noodle concoction, but put it in a Gatorade bottle so I can drink it on my next run. So dang good. Spotted this small family owned sandwich shop last month. Finally made it here and I'm glad I did. They are open for limited walk for carry in due to size and current County restrictions. I got two sandwiches for the wife and "The Steve" Pastrami Thinly sliced Pastrami topped with horseradish cheddar cheese and spice mustard and "The Pete" Italian Sandwich Ham, Bianco salami, roast beef, Mozzarella cheese, lettuce, onion, tomato, pickles, house-made Italian dressing. Both on white fresh bakery rolls You have the option of wheat if you prefer. The rolls and other baked goods are from Vitale's Bakery on the Hill. Both sandwiches are spectacular. Good portions. The Steve is a bit spicy and the pickles on the Pete add depth. The sandwiches come with a small side of Macaroni or Potato Salad. We also tried the Potato Bacon soup.
