    Muffuletta

we love this place! Pics of our amazing Hawaiian chicken sub and Muffuletta. Husband considers himself a muffuletta aficionado and says it's currently the best in St. Louis. They use high quality ingredients and their bread is some-of the best in St. Louis too. Service is always quick and friendly.

I have been wanting to try this pizza for a while. I ordered a large bacon pizza maybe an hour in advance on a weeknight to pick up at a set time. I was about 10 minutes late to pick it up due to unforeseen traffic. When I gave them my name the woman said they were making me a small/extra half pizza because sometimes the edges of their pizzas don't come out right and it's smaller than it's supposed to be. In a minute she handed me two boxes and I was on my way. I looked at and tasted both when I got in the car. The large pizza clearly looks burnt. It was overcooked and under sauced. I love a well done pizza but this was dry. The small pizza was much better but still not enough sauce and less flavor than I would have expected. The best thing here was the slightly thick cut generous amount of bacon. So my next question is was the 1/2 pizza really because of the amount of the large pizza or was it because they knew the large wasn't right? If they knew it wasn't right why didn't they just remake it? Not sure but while I'd certainly give it another go in the future I'm not dying to go back based on my first try.

Finally made it to Zanti's Deli!!!! I wasn't sure if they stayed open until 6pm or 7pm. But we made it!!! We ordered the Panko Onion Rings.. very good, Hot and Crunchy!!! They gave us some dipping sauce of the White BBQ Sauce.. if you like a horseradish based sauce it was good. The Deluxe Pizza was soo good. They don't skip on the toppings and we love how the bacon was laid on top to get nice and crispy!! The Onion Melt sandwich was good. Tenderloin/Carmelized Onions/Havarty and Guyere Cheese with a Balsamic drizzle on Grilled Sourdough bread. Sandwich was good, onion were sweet. I love Balsamic glaze... it was messy but good!!! I can't wait to go back and try some more!!! Service was top notch ! Would love some of the other sandwich recommendations!! Bonus: great night to sit on the patio table and enjoy our food!!! And.... I got some of there Frozen Lasagna and Gelato (Ameretto & Pistachio) for home to eat later!!! Zanti's Deli

Zanti Italiano toasted. 10 inches, plenty for two meals.

We walked in and we were quickly greeted by the lady at the counter. As it was our first time here she was very nice and helping us figure out what to order. I ordered the Zanti's Italiano 10 inch sub toasted with hot giardiniera. It was pretty big. I could only eat half of it, but I took the other half home for lunch the next day. It was loaded with meat and toppings. Not much cheese on there but plenty of everything else. Be aware that the hot.giardinera is hot just like they say. I had to pick some of those peppers off of it because it was making my eyes water. It's a nice little sandwich shop. Decorated nice. There are only 3 two top tables inside but a picnic table outside of the weather is nice. They did have a freezer/refrigerator section that you could get your drinks from grab something to go real quick or get gelato.

Pastrami and swiss with grilled onions and spicy mustard on french roll

The wife and I finally made it to Zanti's Deli, a place we've been wanting to try for a few months, especially since I saw photos of their pastrami, my favorite meat. I love me some reuben, corned beef or pastrami but on the board today they had pastrami and grilled onions on rye so I decided to give it a try, substituting french roll for the rye, choosing spicy mustard over their white sauce. Karla is an admittedly very picky eater, choosing a simple ham and cheddar on sour dough. The restaurant is fairly small, maybe three or four small tables, but we arrived mid afternoon and quickly found an empty table. Ambiance is best described as "we encourage take-out". Owner Jami was at the counter and she is truly awesome; kind, patient, friendly, the whole nine yards. Let there be no doubt the pastrami was the star of the show. Holy cow it was so very tender and juicy AND flavorful, some of the best pastrami I've ever had. I was initially disappointed that it wasn't sliced deli thin like one of my favorites, Carl's Deli, but my disappointment faded immediately upon first bite. Wow! This may be my new favorite pastrami in the metro. Thick cut was definitely the right move for this house made pastrami. Jami threw in a small cup of their white sauce to try and I'm so glad she did. If you like a mild but flavorful horseradish sauce, you won't be disappointed by their white sauce. Karla really enjoyed the ham and cheese. The ham was so plentiful, we took some off of the sandwich and brought it home with us to make another sandwich out of. She would have much preferred Texas toast over the sourdough but she said the sandwich was nonetheless tasty with flavorful ham. Both sandwiches came with a side of pasta salad. Full disclosure, I'm not a cold pasta salad fan but it was tasty. Karla absolutely loved the pasta salad with its sweet and slightly tangy dressing. Overall, a super wonderful experience. We plan to return soon to try other things on the menu but I've gotta be honest. It's going to be tough for me to skip the pastrami.

Italian Market and Deli just down from Roberto's. Cashier counter, deli counter, and freezer case. Bright and airy inside. A bench for waiting after you place your order, although I wandered around and looked at all the market items. Small but great selection! Very friendly staff! Younger girl explained everything and made recommendations. I went with the Panzerotto with sausage and peppers after the reassurance there was no Parmesan and she offered to leave out the mozzarella so I said ok. I am picky about cheese ! I am HOOKED! It was delicious. Great pastry flavor, lots of salsiccia, peppers, and onions. It was all I could do to not eat the whole thing so I could enjoy the rest for lunch the next day! A couple of tables outside in front but no indoor seating. I am already thinking about when I can go back!

Service was good they were friendly enough, but the food was just not good.... We tried the pizza, the crust is paper thin. We could tell as soon as we picked up the box - weighed less than a pound. The roast beef was not good and the meatball sandwich had a very weird flavor. Buffalo chicken sandwich was just a weird concept and the flavor was not there.

    Porchetta sandwich
    Doug M.

A straightforward, tasty experience. Zanti's Deli isn't a deli as I picture them, so much as a sandwich counter and a specialty grocery for Italian food items. I had heard the porchetta sandwich was good, so I gave it a try. It was straightforward, but very good. Crusty Italian bread housed flavorful, sliced pork roast along with sweet & tender caramelized onions, tomato, arugula, and "Zanti's" vinaigrette. The vinaigrette was lightly flavored, but also gave the sandwich a nice bit of moisture. This was a well put-together sandwich. One bonus I want to mention. The sandwiches come in two sizes, 7" and 10". The 10" sandwiches are only $2 more than the 7" ($15 vs. $13), so go for the 10". The bonus here is that the 10" sandwich is actually 11" long! This ain't not Subway bait & switch where the footlong subs are actually only 11".

Tables dressed in linen for the holidays
    Susan D.

Whew...they were doing a brisk lunch business today, in spite of dreary rainy snowy day. I was on a gelato mission to serve as dessert for upcoming holiday gathering. Zanti's is so flavorful and creamy, a bit pricey, but definitely worth it! I grabbed a hazelnut and pistachio and was in & out fairly quickly. They primarily do carry out business, nice touch that the few tables were dressed up for the holidays.

    Steak tip sandwich
    Sarah K.

Service and Sandwiches were excellent! We will be back. I got the zanti's special, hubby got a steak tip sandwich (which I will get next time). One kid got chicken strips (breaded there) and the other got a turkey sandwich that I stole a bite of! They also have pasta and gelato to take home.

    Specialty items.

We sat in the patio and water and fresh hot 2 kinds of bread were placed on the table. Our server, Connor, is so knowledgeable and pleasant. He was patient with us and his wine suggestion was spot on. Great sense of humor and he worked all the patio tables. The food choices were amazing and exceeded expectations. Pricing was comparable with what we expected. The lobster bisque was thick, hot and very filling. There was ample pieces of lobster as well. My wife shared that her pasta was not hard or dry or rubbery but tasted freshly made. Connor shared that the prep starts every morning with homemade pasta. The traditional toasted ravioli were just that, toasted and tasty and the CG shrimp seemed so much more than an appetizer. Meals could be had with just those. I was very satisfied it ordered lasagna anyway. I just had them pack it to go as I was comfortably full. I know there are a lot of choices on the Hill but I assure you this one stands out. This time, we arrived at 6:30pm on a Friday night and were sat at a table in the main thoroughfare. The ambiance was poor and it was so loud that we needed to shout to be heard. We ordered the caramelized cauliflower appetizer which was drowning in cream sauce and so smothered in cheese that it no longer looked like a vegetable. It was too rich for us. They were considerate to give us plates to split the scampi style shrimp, which was well cooked. However, the grilled beef tenderloin and potatoes were very lackluster. We'd asked for medium rare and the kitchen must have been rushing as it was still raw in the middle. We tried to get the server's attention, but they were very busy and we gave up. A particularly strange and rude interaction from our server when collecting the check left a bad taste in our mouths. I was glad to see their popularity but disappointed at how it decreased the quality of our experience. Unfortunately, we had an unpleasant time overall. If you are planning to go, I recommend choosing a less busy time for a better experience.

I have had salve osteria on the hit list for a while, and my expectations were far exceeded. This place is both insanely busy and also a hidden gem at the same time. It does not get the attention, nor press it deserves. The place is jumping with good people and good vibes. I got their New Years special which was prix fixe with prime rib as the main event. Everything was superb. The cassoulet had a beautiful spice with a velvety texture. The crab tom yum risotto was so decadent. Silky smooth from the coconut with a beautiful herby finish from the mint chili oil to complement the crab. I never thought I'd say this, but the brussel sprouts stole the show! Cooked in some bacon fat they were crunchy, salty, and perfect. Oh, and the prime rib was everything a kid could ever dream of. Fatty and the cacao rub was amazing. The horseradish was spectacular. The whipped potatoes were light and airy. Think of mashed potatoes in whipped cream form. A texture and flavor combination I will now dream of because I imagine I will never get to experience something so lovely again. As for cocktails, i kept it simple with a martini... I mean, it is a gin bar, how could I not? The service was great. I was dining solo and the servers and bar tender kept me updated, well taken care, and treated with intense hospitality. I did have one issue: I ordered a Barr Hill Vodka Martini at a premium price, and it had a strong taste of Juniper. I alerted the staff and they were very apologetic and understanding, unfortunately the manager assured me it was Vodka and didn't acknowledge the possibility it tasted like gin. I'm guessing bartender failed to rinse the shaker properly after the previous gin shake, resulting in a vodka drink with a strong gin flavor. The staff kindly replaced the drink with a lower quality vodka that helped satisfy me. The situation was resolved, but I walked away feeling misunderstood and dismissed by the owner. I'm glad that the Italian sausage was thinly sliced because otherwise it would have been overpowering for my palette. The next dish that my daughter had was technically a Caprese salad, which was tomato and mozzarella. She didn't like the red onion, but had asked for balsamic vinegar on the side, which she added to the salad, and when I tried the balsamic vinegar, even I realized that it is one of the best that I have ever had.
