This is a very nice hotel with wide, carpeted hallways. I mention this as there is very good sound absorption compared to some hotel chains. We had the room with the Jacuzzi, so a very spacious room. The last number of year they offered a $175 gift card to Russel's Steaks on Cyber Monday with a free overnight at the Grand Hotel. Just a nice place for an overnight. The rooms are okay, we had one with a jacuzzy in the room. The breakfast, included, was disappointing. The eggs were okay, the potatoes were little rocks. Dry and no taste. The Royal Suite is over 700 sq ft. with a jacuzzi in it. You could hold a dinner party in the shower. It's huge! Our goto place when we visit my family in Buffalo and dinner at the restaurant is over the top. The barroom has floor to ceiling TVs showing flowing Niagara Falls. It's a high end sports bar and calms down to a fashionable drinking establishment in the evening. If you've never been just try it once. The staff appears to have been trained but in general they are just good, caring friendly people. Yes, ok, a little pricey but in my opinion it's worth it and it really isn't that pricey for all that you get. Looking forward to coming here again soon. read more

The hotel is a literal monument to the owner, Russell Salvatore. It's weird. There's a life size replica of him in the lobby, plaques covering the lobby walls about him, books written about him, the road driving in named after him... Donald Trump would be a fan of this guy. That weirdness aside, the hotel was clean and staff was professional and friendly. The decor is pretty dated, and it reminds me of what a "fancy" casino may have looked like in the 70s. BUT, again, the hotel and rooms were clean and maintained so that's more important. I must say that the one thing that really stood out was how good the continental breakfast was. The eggs tasted like actual eggs, not the stuff they serve at most modern hotels. The breakfast meats and juices all seemed legit too which was kind of surprising. Staff is friendly and welcoming. Front desk does a stellar job. The morning breakfast is absolutely delicious. The rooms are clean. The beds are comfy. The layout of the room is genius. The toilet and shower are separate from the sink and vanity. The shower is large and walk in. They provide hair care, soap, and lotion. It's a wonderful place for a staycation if you live in the area and are looking for a retreat. The location is convenient if you're traveling. There's a Cracker Barrel, Starbucks, Tim Hortons, DQ, and a Pita Gourmet within walking distance. Not to mention an IMAX theater right next door. read more

Walls were cracked and poorly patched. The furniture was old and worn. There was plaster dust in the corners of the room. The television service in the room was a free service variety. It was limited as what was available to watch, at least what I could determine. I could not locate any local channels to watch. Light switch cover screws were sticking out. They needed to be tightened down. Tile was broken in the bathroom and holes were visible. The hallway carpeting was full of stains and discoloration from beginning to end. My wife sent an email and the front desk inquired about it when I was checking out. We were told the manager would contact us, but no one did. I will never stay there again and will not recommend this hotel to anyone that I care about. I can't believe it carries Salvatore's name. read more

Went with my husband for a date night and had a great experience. We got the dinner package to go with our room and had way too much to eat. The food was excellent as it always is there. Desserts where a little disappointing, I didn't even order one because nothing stood out. The room was very nice and clean. Only complaint is the doors are very loud so when housekeeping starts (first thing in the morning) and the doors are shutting behind them, it woke me up every time. They still offer a small breakfast, no more buffet because of COVID but I was never a breakfast person. A bagel and coffee is plenty for me. Will definitely return again, just remembering noise canceling headphones for the morning. read more

Do not waste your time booking at this hotel. My husband and I stayed here this past weekend (September 14-16, 2024) and our experience was more than disappointing, we were appalled by the emotional immaturity and anger management issues displayed by the owner, Russell Salvatore. We booked two nights with the dinner package which includes a dinner voucher for each night to the onsite restaurant. We booked this hotel purely out of nostalgia from a weekend we had previously spent at one of their older establishments in 2008. This was our 10th wedding anniversary weekend, which the hotel didn't/doesn't know but that should not matter. My husband and I don't take much time off together from our business and our time is very important to us. We arrived around 7:30 pm, having driven two hours and were both looking forward to a great meal and a relaxing night. We checked in and prepared for dinner. I need to point out that I wore a dress with a little shrug and my husband wore dress slacks, dress shoes and a more formal-in-style grey knit sweater. He topped it off with a Magill fedora I had purchased for him on our second anniversary. I know he wears this for me. When we booked the package, including the time for our dinner reservation we were not informed of a dress code. When I called the hotel again to push forward our dinner reservation we were not informed of a dress code. When we checked in and had a lengthy conversation, including another discussion about our dinner reservation we were not informed of a dress code. Nowhere on the information packet with the room key we were given are there any mentions of a dress code. When we went down for dinner and spoke again to the front desk which is right in front of the restaurant we were not informed of a dress code. And at this time my husband was wearing the hat. We approached the hostess stand, hungry, excited, thirsty and just looking to enjoy ourselves. The owner, Russell Salvatore, without greeting asked us for our reservation and without warning had a melt down because my husband was wearing that hat. He literally snarled loudly at my husband - "GET THAT HAT OFF, this is RUSSELLS" It was said with such venom I didn't understand what was happening. This happened in front of other guests, staff and patrons waiting to get in. It was humiliating and we were both too stunned to react. A pager was thrust into our hands and we were curtly brushed away to wait. My husband immediately took his hat off and we sat there not sure what to do. It was then I noticed another group of patrons, dressed clean-casual at best with one of the men wearing a worn baseball cap. The patrons were about 5 feet from the hostess stand and seemed to be immune to the dress code that sent Russell Salvatore into an apoplectic fit. We no longer felt welcome, were embarrassed that our attire caused such a response and decided to leave, asking if our dinner could be delivered to our room. I returned to the restaurant later to ensure that the staff member who tried to look after us received their tip. I was shocked to see that the aforementioned table of folks were still sat there, with the baseball cap still on. My husband and I discussed if we should cancel the following nights reservation but our time is very valuable to us so we decided to keep the room and spend as little time as we could at the hotel. There is a complimentary breakfast so we attended that the following morning where we saw that Russell Salvatore was present. After a nights sleep I wondered if a cooler head would prevail and I approached Russell, privately, to ask if he remembered us and offered him a chance to explain what happened. The response was worse than his behaviour the night before, including profanity on his part and an absolute dismissal of his actions. It was childish and vulgar. Upon stepping back and reflecting we missed the signs. This is an outdated establishment Russel Salvatore has crafted as a temple to himself, for himself. The walls are covered top to bottom with framed accolades he clearly installed as to be able to glory in himself all day and night. He named the restaurant after himself and in every room there is a copy of his biography front and centre on the chest of drawers. This hotel is literally a shrine to Mr. Salvatore, only he's alive and well and built the shrine himself. Unfortunately management, while very courteous and helpful, still expect guests to compromise their dignity because Mr. Salvatore donates to charitable causes. Perhaps if the sight of a well dressed man wearing a smart fedora sends the owner into an emotional tirade, the dress code bears mentioning somewhere other than on a post or wall that is plastered with hundreds of other framed pictures, plaques, photo's, stylized paintings, busts, display cases, news articles, advertisements... Save your time and money folks, there are much better experiences to be had in Buffalo. read more

I was in town for a graduation and had dinner at Russell's. I wanted to stay nearby so this was perfect. I made RSVP online through their web site, no issues. The room was clean, bed comfy, crisp white sheets. Pillows too hard for me. Extra large walk-in shower, renovated. The room lighting was pretty dim with curtains closed. Nice touch they have a light up magnifier mirror for putting on make-up. The sink is in the entrance way instead of the bathroom, which was fine for me. The staff at front desk, airport driver, luggage, everyone was super nice. I had a little time in the morning and read Russell's book- wish I had read it before I met him the night before. I don't know what other hotels cost in Buffalo, but the price to value is pretty darn good for the quality of stay. I decided to make reservations for the hotel... & get room service... unfortunately only one out of 8 employees wore a mask... no plexy glass at ck in or around the disappointing continental breakfast... not even a room service menu for breakfast which was to be included & charged $20 plus taxes more for the room that was advertised & no additional service. We are all trying to keep businesses open.... 5 phone calls later including personally speaking with Mr Salvatore... no credits or a future room comp after spending $278 of my hard earned money... he didn't care... so be aware of their deals... NOT HAPPY AT ALL two roaches came out when filling the jacuzzi, and one big roach came out when trying to get coffee. Not wanting to bring roaches home i gave it to the attention of the front desk. I told them that i trapped the two lil ones in napkins and one big one was trapped under a glass cup in the room for them to see. They did offer a diff. room but was not equal or adequate for that i had a guest with me. They also offered a room in a diff. hotel but after that experience i did not want nothing to do with another hotel. Was given a full refund and a certificate for the same room package, which i will not be using. Drove all the way back home 1hour and 15min away. After writing this review on Expedia i got a phone call from Salvatore's Grand Hotel, was told that it was a common house beetle, and that my certificate was voided. The staff was friendly. If you ask them any questions they literally tell you "Id like to tell you but Mr Salvatore would fire me", or "My boss signs my checks and I have nothing more to tell you". Im not asking personal questions, but basic things related to the fact that he has a whole sheet posted in the elevators about how he doesnt speak to his family, at all... posting that obviously brings up questions and his staff acts as if they are terrified of him. On our second day there I was in the room after it had been serviced and the door suddenly opened. It was housekeeping... no knock, no announcement, nothing. And why are you coming back in after the room is complete? Front desk didnt care. The rooms were fine. Need a little updating... feels like you are in a mob movie from the early 90s. In fact, the whole place has that vibe, including Russell, himself. On the day we were checking out I took our suitcases out to the car on our break during the meeting we were there for, leaving my phone on the charger in the room with my "road snacks" and the DO NOT DISTURB button ON. When I went back to the room at 1150 (check out is Noon) to gather these things they were already finished resetting the room and my stuff was gone. The housekeeper said "The luggage was gone, so we cleaned the room". When I said "The DO NOT DISTURB button was also ON and some stuff was still here!!" she just shrugged her shoulders and walked away. I liked it here. After having a relatively bad experience at the Garden Place hotel, I wasn't sure what to expect. We stayed in a king suite Sunday to Monday, and had the dinner package. The hotel itself is nice when you enter. Dim lighting, check in was fast and friendly. In our room there was a nice medium sized LG television on the wall, and a blu-ray player was already there. (We had considered bringing our own.) We also had a little fridge and microwave. The shower was surprisingly huge. I wasn't sure I would like having the "bathroom sink" in the main room, but ended up loving it. The bed was very comfortable. It was in general very clean and well kept. Instead of visiting the restaurant we put our $90 certificate toward room service. It arrived in about 30-40 minutes, and was everything you would expect from a "high class" restaurant. Hot, delicious, and presented beautifully. Gratuity is automatically added on as part of the bill when you do this, which we knew. Breakfast in the morning was also good. There were a lot of options, and everything tasted great. The breakfast dining room was way too small for how busy it was though, so we ended up taking our trays back to the room instead. My only other complaint really is that we were on the 5th floor, and had to travel to the 2nd or 3rd floor to get to the ice and vending machines. Overall I would say it was a successful stay, and would consider it again in the future. read more

Had a great one night stay. Bed was very comfortable, and we utilized the 2 person jacuzzi tub which was clean and worked. Room had a microwave and fridge. This was very helpful because we came off of 2 long flights including a red eye, and so could not make it to their celebrated restaurant. They had well stocked vending machines which had even microwaveable pizza that tasted fresh. Room was quiet. Included breakfast was very well stocked with many options including kid friendly options. Included hot options. Someone checked with us on how we were doing. Lastly, hotel is completely non smoking. They have a section outside for that if needed. read more

The hotel itself was fine. Lovely room, nice staff. But the Salvatore's Italian Garden restaurant, which I paid for dinner there as part of a package, was horrible. My man and I were sat in an area with a terrible draft and our food took forever to come out. When it finally did come, my man's salmon was not cooked properly. When he said something about it to our waiter Myke, the waiter just said "ok" and walked off. He didn't do anything to try to rectify the problem and you can tell the staff didn't care and just wanted to rush people out. You're better off going to the local restaurants in the area then paying the extra money to eat at their terrible establishment. read more

We had an exceptional experience at this hotel from check in through check out. I made reservations with one of the dinner packages because we were celebrating our five year anniversary. When making the reservation, they asked us if we were celebrating anything special and I mentioned it was our anniversary. Much to our surprise, when we were driving in, we saw that they display anniversary and birthday wishes on the marquis billboard at the front of the property! When we got to our assigned room, it reeked of cigarette smoke. The front desk attendant apologized profusely (especially since it is a non smoking hotel) and immediately found us another room that had absolutely no issues. We really enjoyed the room. It was modern décor without being weird (as some 'modern') stuff can be and was a lot more understated than the similar Garden Place Hotel. Our room had a gorgeous and comfy king bed, a sizeable Jacuzzi, a desk and a dresser. The room comes equipped with a Blue Ray player, too, so if you think you might want to watch something, no need to pay exorbitant fees through the hotel. Run to a Red Box or bring one from home. An interesting feature is that your room key controlled the thermostat. So as long as you had the key in the slot, the AC or heat would be controlled to the temp you set. It was an interesting way to conserve energy! I thought the bathroom shower was nice and spacious. Although I wasn't a fan of the dispensers on the wall. I'm always leery of using those because you never know what people might have done to them. They did, however, have individual soaps and shampoos available so you didn't have to use them if you didn't want to. The Jacuzzi comfortably fit both my husband and I (and we are both really tall people). I do wish there weren't as many mirrors around it (the lined two sides of it). Maybe some people are in to seeing themselves, but I didn't think they were necessary. The breakfast the next morning was better than I was expecting. They had the typical things (cereal, oatmeal, eggs) but also had biscuits and gravy and corned beef hash! The servers in that room were attentive and helpful and they did a good job replenishing items. Overall, a wonderful experience and stay. We visited here in Jan few years ago. Ok with the food, but if you with a kid, may not perfect for a family gathering. We had total 8 ppl, my parents and in-laws. Wait one hour for the table, then another 20 mins for our assigned server after we sit down. We have a toddler, when he talk loud, the owner came and asked us lower our volume...... My dad is 80 with bald head so wearing a baseball cap (snowing outside). The owner came to ask him take off the cap..... We are ok but when I notice there is another gentleman wearing hat just 2 tables behind us...it is not a ok then, this night is definitely not a good memory for our family gathering. read more

Stayed here for a night and it was a pleasant experience. Room pricing was pretty nice considering we had a king size bed and a whirlpool tub. The tub was phenomenal and I wish I could've taken it home with me. Room was clean and welcoming. Staff was very friendly and helpful. We didn't get to experience the full breakfast options because of COVID, but they still had some small, wrapped options available to grab and bring back to your room. I really wanted to this to be a five star experience but it just couldn't have been from the very start. We had a reservation for a jacuzzi room and upon entering the room smelled a little musty. Used he toilet and it didn't flush. My fiancé called to the front desk and they sent someone up but he was able to fix it in the meantime. The sink had a super slow drain as well so maybe there's a bigger issue with he plumbing. I HATE the soap dispensers on the wall in the shower. That is extremely tacky. It reminded me of being in gym class at high school and using the showers after. One also fell off of the wall while I was in there and soap went everywhere. The jacuzzi was a mess too. It was so loud (yes I know it's a jacuzzi it gets loud but this was extreme) and messy. It was large which was great but nothing special and not really worth it. When you walk through the first floor the decor is borderline tacky. Just too much. There's no aesthetic. They could certainly afford a good interior designer and I think it'd help them get to that next level. It's just like someone threw everything all over with no rhyme or reason. When they have deals on these rooms and packages you're not really getting a deal... it's just that's what these rooms are worth. I don't know what happened since the last time I was there which was earlier this year but your front desk people are rude. I wanted to see if I could check in early because I have been able to in the past and this unprofessional women tells me you can't until 3 pm and they only have 2 people to clean. It was 1:30 pm I was just asking if I could. This was Christmas Day so I went to my destination. I went back at 6:30 pm and another unprofessional woman says to me when I hand her my credit card Im assuming this works. What??? I didn't ask you to work on Christmas Day. Usually they tell you what room and how to get there she pretty much threw my room keys at me. My room was pleasant and clean but your customer service people need training. Sad because this was my go to hotel and favorite but I will go elsewhere now. read more

I give this hotel my highest rating, it was immaculate, large rooms, staff that were totally committed to making sure you had a wonderful time and artwork and decor with great style. The owner, who lives on site, is an amazing philanthropist in the Bufffalo community. His class and style are everywhere in this hotel and the attached restaurant, which was the beginning of Russel Salvatores second venture into this business over a 70 year career creating "hospitality of a world gone by the wayside" in favor of technology and greed. I would recommend this place to anyone, don't let the outside fool you, it is a truly wonderful experience inside those front doors. An old Italian feel is what this hotel is all about. Staff was very accommodating. All you need to do is call them from airport for free shuttle 24 hours a day. (We were not aware of this and paid $15 for taxi ) Bed was very comfortable! The breakfast buffet was pretty good. We ordered room service (it comes from Salvatore's Italian Gardens Restaurant) very nice setup, with tablecloth, cloth napkins. Arrived quickly and was as delicious as if we had dressed up and gone to restaurant! Best stuffed meatball I've ever eaten. Great price for hotel on Priceline. Let me start out by saying the food was excellent. With that, our experience was not. I booked the package special and when I booked over the phone I gave them the gift certificate number I had and they said no problem, just bring it with you when you come in and then when I did they said it was for the other Salvatore's and would not accept it. I also, ordered in the package chocolate covered strawberries to be in the room and they were not there. I had to go to the hotel desk and ask for them again. Then the next morning when I got up we received the bill and they overcharged me. I was still not upset with this and figured mistakes happen. My wife and I went downstairs for breakfast and I went to the front desk to discuss the mistake in my bill and my wife went to sit for breakfast. While I was discussing the mischarges with the bill, which was they double charged me for dinner, Russ yelled at my wife saying she can not sit at the table, there was no holding tables. To get your food then sit down. I mean, if they did not mess up the bill she would not have just sat there and waited on me. Then after breakfast we went back to our room (9:30am) and room service came in. We did not check out and check out was 11am. Again, great food but overall experience was not good. read more

My husband and I stayed in the suite with the king bed and huge tub, AMAZING! The room is truly kept up perfectly, it was so spacious but homey at the same time. Everything was comfortable and stylish! The breakfast they serve in the morning is delicious! I was impressed! It was nice seeing The owner, Russell always there and involved. My friend and I stayed here the night before a trip to Jamaica and it was absolutely perfect! The staff are friendly and helpful and even gave us a great tip to check out a local spot for some chicken wings. We had a couple of drinks at the in-house bar (Russell's) and it was a very classy and well-run bar and the decor was great and unique. We also took advantage of the long term parking option that they have here as well. For just $25 you can leave your vehicle parked at their hotel for up to three weeks and they provide a free shuttle to and from the Buffalo airport! A MUCH better deal than any parking option that the airport offers! I would definately recommend this to anyone whether they are looking for a good night's sleep before a morning flight, a short getaway or anything really! Great job and I WILL be back! read more

I have been traveling to Buffalo for business purposes and have stayed at this hotel several times. Everything about this hotel is top notch. The rooms are spacious, clean and have large jacuzzi tubs. The service here is extremely good as well. Everyone from the wait and bar staff, front desk and housekeeping are professional and very friendly. The food is outstanding and the big screen televisions in the bar are a great addition. Even though as a business traveler I could stay at a chain hotel and get points, I would much rather stay at Salvatore's Grand. read more

I stayed here recently when I traveled to Buffalo for a wedding. The hotel's location is a bit incongruous (it is a stand alone building in the middle of a strip mall parking lot), but the hotel itself is fairly new and pretty well apportioned. Also, the staff was very good to our group by providing frequent shuttles to and from the hotel and the reception site and allowing us to use a common room for an "after party." The pros: free parking, free wi-fi, spacious rooms with mini-fridges and large flat panel tvs, and a free breakfast buffet that included the typical continental fare, as well as eggs, sausage, and waffles. The cons: broken elevator (thankfully, our room was on the second floor and the staff was able to put my mobility-challenged grandmother in a room on the first floor), $9 drinks at the bar, parking-lot views. read more

My husband and I stayed here for our wedding night, and it was incredible!! The front desk staff is so amazingly friendly; as soon as we walked in they greeted us warmly. When we were checked in, they complimentary upgraded us to a Royal Suite because they knew it was our wedding night. That made our night extra special! The rooms are immaculate; so clean and well updated. The jacuzzi tubs in the rooms are huge and after asking, I found out they are cleaned after each use with some chemical that is so strong that it can even kill the HIV virus. Our room was on the newly built 5th floor, and it is gorgeous. The breakfast in the morning is probably the best complimentary hot breakfast that I've ever had. They have everything from eggs, to pancakes and french toast. For the price of the room, the atmosphere, and the hospitality, I wouldn't stay anywhere else in Buffalo! read more
