We were pleasantly surprised at the delicious pizza we ordered last night from Salvo's. We ordered a couple of cheese pizza's for our kiddos and a veggie pesto pizza with sun dried tomatoes and feta cheese. Salvo's is more of a New York style pizza with thin crust. Our kids gobbled up the cheese and the adults enjoyed veggie pesto. We also ordered two house salads, they were traditional iceberg lettuce with some veggies on top. One salad had tons of mushrooms and the other had tons of black olives, they need to work on the balance of their salads. Definitely would order again from Salvo's when we are back in Nashville. read more

My boys wanted the lunch buffet. At $7.99 a person, it's not the cheapest pizza buffet in town. Soda fountain & tea was included. My oldest can eat his weight in pizza, so I thought why not? I wasn't thrilled with the selection of pizza on the buffet, but my kids eat cheese and pepperoni only. And they were able to have plenty. They had a nice selection of other Italian foods on the buffet too. I chose to start with a small salad. Happy to discover lots of tomatoes, carrots & radicchio in it. But it was still mostly iceberg lettuce & not the good lettuce. The dressings were not labeled; I went with ranch because I could identify it. Then I chose rigatoni with sausage covered in a tomato based sauce & smothered with cheese. A side of muscles, which you don't see on buffets around here. And a knot of bread covered in pesto (?). The rigatoni was tasty, but I can make a comparable meal like it myself. The bread knot, I took one bite of & couldn't eat anymore. It was dense and stale. Then I tried their banana pudding. It was basic box mix pudding, no actual bananas were involved. My kids chose to sit at the tall table by the pizza. It was very warm in there; not sure if it was because we were close to the kitchen and hot food or because it was the first 70 degree day of the year or a combo. But I would have liked it more comfortable. I struggled with rating it 3 or 4 stars. We all left stuffed. And my kids loved it, but they would've loved the cheaper buffet nearby too. Salvo's was SPECIAL, but not anymore! Salvo's HAD the best Sicilian Pizza I've EVER had. But not anymore! Apparently they changed the ingredients, especially their meats. There was not enough cheese on the pizza to be able to taste it to see if that was changed also. Salvo's Sicilian Pizza WAS almost addicting. I could hardly wait to go back and buy some more. But over the last year or so, their pizza has morphed into a typical no taste/flavor pizza typical in this area. I did not mind paying $25 for a large Sicilian Pizza. It was worth every penny. But now $25 buys a pizza that to be quite honest is not any better than a Frozen Pizza. I have come back over and over again the past year or so thinking maybe they would change back to their old recipe/ingredients. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. I am done with the new Salvo's I was going to give Salvo's a 3 star rating as now they are just average. But $25 for an average pizza, I had to reduce it to a 2 star rating. read more

The pizza was pretty good. I had one smaller pie where the crust tasted dry compared to the larger one which tasted better. Topping were plentiful and tasted good quality. Cheese was minimal and red sauce was so sparse it was hard to taste, wasn't overly flavorful from the little I tasted. Overall good pizza if you put toppings on. The crust was kinda tasteless lacked any real flavor and appeared an after thought compared to the toppings. I'll go back try again give it another chance and try something different. read more

Wow These people are so nasty, I have eaten here before but I just made a order and when I walked in to pick up my order I first noticed NO ONE had on masks behind the counter. Then I noticed the prep person with her hand in her shirt. The next thing I noticed was the person taking the pizza's out of the oven had no gloves on and after she boxed up the pizza in front of her while pushing it in with her bare hand, and immediately after she rubbed her nose and went back to it WITHOUT WASHING HER HANDS. I would totally recommend this please if you're planning on getting sick anytime soon I will never go back and I am utterly disgusted but this behavior it's surprise that I have not been sick from eating from this place. read more

We ordered our pizza to be delivered at 5:30pm and it came at 3:20pm. The driver was sent back and in return he came back at 5:30pm with very cold pizza and pasta. We ordered the baked ziti and there was sheet pasta in the order, as if they didn't have enough ziti to make the dish, our double stuff pizza was to NOT have salami or hamburger and yep you guest it there was double of it in the pizza. We recently went back to Salvo's after being away for a few months. The first thing was they did not want us to sit in the back area where we like to sit. We like booths so we sat in the only one they had in that are it was close to the front door. It was very tight for my husband. Our server was very pleasant. When she brought us our menu she told us they were trying self serve drinks. We said really. First our booth was very hard to get in and out of and my husband has a hard time getting around so he definitely couldn't do it. She was very nice and got us our drinks We ordered and our food came in a reasonable time. The first thing we noticed was that the portions were smaller than the last time we were there. The food was okay. My husband had spaghetti with clam sauce and he said it was bland. I spaghetti with sausage, peppers and onions. It was tasty but very little peppers and onions and it was a little greasy. Everyplace place has an off nigh and we Have always enjoyed Salvors. The thing that really got to us was the charge for using your credit card. We asked about it and she said there was a sign. She looked and said they must have taken it down. We were told they have been doing that for a few months. If we had known that we would gave paid cash. Paid way too much for a veggie pizza with ham to go considering I wasn't blown away by it. Way too much "margin" of dough. I pretty much like my ingredients to the edge or at least close - this had over 1 1/2" of bread border. I also like my ingredients more evenly spread over the pizza and such was not the case. Pile of mushrooms on one piece, piece or two on another - same with the rest of the veggies. The added ham was the worse. Your basic uniformly thin sliced ham along the lines of the supper market variety in the little rectangular package. Not bad, but what they did was take this pile of uniform pieces and cut the stack into small squares. In and of itself - that's not so bad, but you would at least think they would separate the little pieces. There were maybe 6 or 8 little square stacks of ham randomly tossed over a 12" pizza. One other major complaint - the onions and peppers are sauteed before the pizza is cooked in the oven and they are MUSHY and overcooked. I like some crunch. Wound up eating crunchy sweet peppers I had at home to compensate. Also, it adds that additional level of greasy being sauteed. Also, though not a deal breaker - canned mushrooms. Went back on another occasion and we chose to dine-in. We really intended to get pasta, but the coupon was for up to $10 off any menu item so we went with the pizza which allowed us to get a large pizza with 5 ingredients for $8.99. This seemed like the best deal knowing we would have plenty left over for the next day (or two). It was good, it wasn't great. I saw some pasta dishes go by our table and was wishing we had indeed gone that route. The garlic knots look really good based on the ones I saw on an adjacent table, but the jerk wouldn't share! Hey, they will bring you more! Don't go here for the atmosphere - you walk past or sit beside the buffet table as well as the kitchen. Now you may want to sit by the buffet if you like big butts - don't lie! You will be in close proximity to several - it is a buffet after all. I think buffet in Italian is pronounced "buttfet". There is slightly more intimate seating in the back, though not exactly anniversary or special occasion worthy. The pasta dish prices are about the same as La Tavola sans the atmosphere and attentive service and wine or cleanliness or quietness or quaintness, or.... Can't comment on the quality as I have yet to try the pasta or other entrees. For a family, budget wise, the pizza is the best route to take if you can all agree on toppings. Only the second time to order pizza here, the first time, we wrongfully ordered the Sicilian cheese pizza instead of the thin crust. Was initially disappointed when I first opened the box, but I wasn't going to not try it. Was really glad that I did. Although we weren't craving deep dish, it was pretty good. The sauce was good, not sour and not overly sweet. The cheese was the best part. Gooey and fresh! Tonight, we ordered the right pizza, thin crust but with sausage! We ordered via phone for pick up. We got there right at 15 mins and it was ready! Like the deep dish, cheese and sauce was good, and in addition so was the sausage, not salty, and plentiful. I've lived in TN for 11 years and this is BY FAR the best pizza I've had here. We stuck with pizza. It was a group of us adults and children. We ordered a specialty pizza and a pepperoni pizza. We had to run and errand to Smyrna and decided to use a coupon we had in one of our discount books. Glad we did. When you look in from the parking lot it really doesn't look like they have much seating but there is a good bit of seating as you go towards the back. The first thing is how friendly the owners/staff are. I can't say enough about that. We meant to order the Sicilian style crust but didn't so we will be going back soon to try that. We had their traditional hand tossed NY style crust Salvo's special pizza but asked if they would double up the pepperoni instead of the sausage and they were more than happy to. They kept our drinks full and packaged up the leftover pizza. They have a nice assortment of items on their menu beside the pizzas and a lot of people were eating those instead of pizza and they all looked good and were all nice portions. So I really can't wait to try some of their other items beside the pizzas. It's a quaint little place sort of hidden behind the business along Sam Ridley but worth seeking out. read more

My review has two stars for two reasons only. 1. My order was delivered on time, early even. 2. It was edible. Staying in the area and my hotel recommended this place over Dominos. I've lived on the East Coast and West Coast. I've had good pizza and was quite leary of eating pizza in Tennessee. I should have listened to my gut. Garlic knots were ice cold when delivered. The container had an inch thick of oil in it. So much oil in fact that it was dripping out of the container. And did I mention they were ice cold? Flavor wouldn't have been bad if they were warm and not completely drowning in oil. Pizza. Meh. I'm fine having pizza that isn't from NY or California. However, this was undercooked, bland and just overall unappealing. After being on the road for 10 hours today, it was edible. Next time, I'll just get something out of the vending machine. read more

Good little pizza place that definitely beats the fast food chains. Lunch buffet is $7.00, $8 something with drink. The buffet has a pretty good selection. Each time we've gone it's included: At least 6 pizza options, including a veggie option, a plain cheese and a calzone option- Veggie pizza is awesome with generous chunky veggies. 2 hot pastas- haven't come across one I didn't like :) 2 cold pastas Salad- only three dressing choice but hey, it's a pizza place calamari 2 bread options- including some really good knots and 2 dessert options The place is pretty small and seating is a bit crowded on busy days but it's not obnoxious. Two slices of plain cheese pizza and a drink are only a $1 less than the buffet so for lunch the buffet really is the best deal. Pizza can be a bit greasy at times, but that kinda goes with being pizza. Salads always taste fresh and are pretty darn big with chunky veggies. A salad with some garlic knots makes for a decent meal. We also enjoy their full pizzas though we usually get those for take out They are also willing to handle larger groups (15+) though its a bit crowded and makes moving around more difficult. The staff is always pleasant even when we descend like a horde. Over all good place to stop in for lunch or dinner read more

This place had 2 initial things going against it: buffet and in Smyrna of all places, but a friend gave glowing reviews and my husband being the pizza mongrel he is, we had to go give it a try! I've been to NYC and actually think the pizza is kinda crap. (heresy I know, but I enjoy West Coast style pizza!) But Salvos changed my mind on how 'NYC Style' pizza can be good - In Tennessee! Its the big floppy pieces you need to fold up to eat but its still substantial eatin' crust wise and not swimming in grease like so many other places. The Stromboli and pesto garlic knots are much too buttery, but I have to admit in shame - I loved both. The knots gave me pesto garlic dreams! They also had a bunch of pasta, carbonara, meatballs, spinach lasagna (loaded with ricotta, no skimping out here!) and mussels in red sauce. Yes, mussels on a buffet. I totally realize I was taking my life into my own hands, but they were actually really delish and I live to tell about them - food poisoning free! There were a few downsides to Salvo's. 1. the buffet placement is super awkward, you are always in someones way. 2. the meatballs were sub par IMO 3. styrofoam plates. I know disposable is easier, but maybe upgrade to plastic or just do dishes? 4. banana pudding was just banana flavored. The goodness outweighs these 4 minor setbacks. The service really was family oriented and I saw a staff member give a plate full of really tasty looking cannoli to a birthday girl (not on the buffet) I wish Salvo's was closer to my house, it would be my take out choice in a hot minute due to the great looking choices on the menu! I am a New Yorker from Smyrna, so I'm a bit picky about pizza. While Salvo's doesn't quite rise to the quality of NYC or New Jersey pizza, it's not far behind and far better than the Smyrna chain restaurant options like Cici's or Papa John's. The crust is fresh and all of the ingredients quality. I loved the taste, especially the sauce. The one improvement I would suggest on the pizza: crispy crust. New York pizza has a certain crispiness from the oven. The pizza crust was more chewy than crisp. Otherwise, it was just perfect. The people are nice, and it's a great option in this area. read more

We ordered from here last year. Crispy pizza and they automatically gave us plates, napkins and plastic silverware due to delivering to a hotel. This time, even after putting "extra crispy crust" several times throughout the order, we got the soggiest crust we have ever had on any pizza!!! It was disgusting! We had to pick the toppings off. On top of that, no plates, no napkins and no plastic silverware. They also had the WORST mozzarella sticks I have ever had in my life. The breading was flavorless and the cheese was funky tasting. Best Pizza in Rutherford County! I grew up in a small and predominently italian town in upstate NY. Pizza was a delicious staple in my life...and I mean GREAT fresh pizza. Tasty meats and mozz with a light garlicy homeade sauce (NO dipping sauces needed) and believe it or not the crust was mouthwatering without being stuffed with tasteless cheese. I moved to the South in 1988 and beckoned for good pizza to no avail. I can humbly say, I am a pizza SNOB. I did find a little piece of heaven when I worked Brentwood. Many Fridays, a group of us would wait in line to get a slice of heavenly Joey's Pizza. Just the cheese pizza was amazing, which, by far, I passionately deam as the best tasting pizza in TN that I've had. Now Joey's Pizza is Joey's House of Pizza off Elm Hill Pike. However, I frequent LaVergne/Smyrna weekly and I heard of Salvo's. I got their white pizza and have been very impressed. I've scarfed down a couple of these on a Sunday afternoon. I live in South Nashville and once a month, I order pizza from one of the larger chains for the same price if not more and I'm sadly unimpressed with the money I've spent on price/taste comparison. The pizza the taste was not that good to be Italian restaurant or calling style pizza sorry I don't like to complaint or talk about restaurant but no the best is ok..
