The Murfreesboro Pulse, a monthly news magazine/paper reviewed Mikes and it was a great review. I travel up and down this street often and have thought, "Gee. This is a new place. Maybe I should try it." The review drove the decision. You may accept my 5* rating and move on, or you can read all the kudos I am going to lay on them and the food. It is on the expensive side, but you get what you pay for. Go there. My adult son said not only is this the best pizza in Murfreesboro, it ma be in the mid-state. Originally from what I call the pizza capital - New York, I would up that to one of the best in the nation. So let's get the mandatory service and ambiance rating to justify this. The place is in a strip mall. Service is prompt. Despite the sparse setting, the Italian speech in the background makes up for that. While my taste buds are not calibrated to say exactly what region of Italy the flour came from, I can say it produced a high gluten crust with a nice chew. It is the only wood fired pizza place here and the wood did not impart much smoke flavor, it did caramelize the crust well. Chain restaurants over load pizza with tomato sauce and this is not necessary. Mike's puts a proper amount without overpowering it. I loved the flavor of the sausage and the cheese. This is the real deal! The gentlemen working there are as fluent in Italian as they are in English.Neapolitan wood fired pizza. The atmosphere is Very casual and friendly. We got ours to go. Fabulous! Everything is homemade and fresh! The pizza dough, mozzarella, etc! They make red and white pizzas. Pizzas are made in front of you and you can watch your pizza cook in the wood fired oven. Visited Mike's pizzeria , was late afternoon so the place was quiet. I had the opportunity to meet the owners Mike and Beshoy who are really nice guys and very welcoming. They told me about their road to opening this place and the efforts they put into delivering a quality product. Homemade dough, quality ingredients, specialty wood fired (oak) pizza oven, and TLC for every order. I went with the Pepperoni Pie and when Mike pulled it out of the oven and put it on the counter it was dazzling...all of the cheese and pepperoni bubbling and it smelled so good. I am spoiled when it comes to this style of pizza, and these guys did not disappoint me at all. The crust was light but crisp, loved the char from the oven as it adds to the flavor, the pepperoni is my favorite style of small crisp little cups that allow the oil to sit in the bottom...sooooooo good. You also experience an extra flavor burst of fresh basil throughout the pie while the cheese and sauce complemented everything versus masking the flavors of the pie. Finally Beshoy told me they make their own Ranch Dressing for dipping the crust and yes...I dipped. If you're a Ranch fan you will love the flavors of fresh dill and chives along with "secret" ingredients...it is really good. Mike's Pizzeria was five stars! Checked it out this evening with a couple people and we LOVED all of the pizzas. The service was wonderful and very attentive and pizzas came out quickly. The crust is perfect - great chew, a little char flavor from the pizza oven, and not too thick or too thin. Eating the crust dipped in their homemade ranch sauce was a must. Wanted to sample a few options so we ordered the margherita, hot salami, pesto chicken, and tartufo. The mushroom and salami were our top favorites. I'm already dreaming about going back to see if I can order the hot salami with pineapple added as that might just be my perfect pizza combination. Really disappointed. We have had their pizza many times and love it. My husband just went in and ordered 2 calzone, one classic and one with meatballs. Mine the classic one was completely soaked on the bottom, soggy, not eatable. I even got the sauce on the side to mitigate that issue. I really don't know what happened. read more

I moved to the Boro 8 months ago. If y'all think this is 5-star pizza, you ain't had a real 5-star pizza, and this speaks to the sad state of pizza in this area. The crust is one of the better ones, but the sauce is plain. The rest of the toppings are average. Sami's is better tasting and a better value, with Mike's charging $15 for what is basically a personal size pizza. I'm still searching for a 5-star pizza in the Boro. read more

Found this small pizzeria by accident but we now know where to get great food. Upon entering we were greeted warmly and told a few things about the food and the wait time. We ordered the Margherita pizza and one can of coke and told it would be about 15 minutes. They have about 6 tables and three had young men totally enjoying their lunch. Just seeing the different kinds of pizza was mouth watering. It was quiet everyone was enjoying their pizza. Our pizza was still smokey from the hot oven with bits of char, the crust was thin, layered with the best red sauce ever and covered with cheese and fresh basil. (Reminded us of all the fantastic pizza in Rome) This was the perfect lunch, 3 pieces each for the two of us. And since we don't drink soda often we shared a can. Pizza was very thin. I am from NY and grew up on the best pizza. This is NOTHING like NY pizza. The pizza is too thin. Its like they rolled it out too much. Any true Italian pizza shop owner in NY would ban them from making pizza. Also the price for that small pie is ridiculous. Too many other places that are less expensive and waaaaaaay better.
