AP relies on a cast of seasoned local talent, including the brilliant and talented Michael Stuart, to provide a broad variety of theatrical productions each season. For live theater, the prices are reasonable, with half-price student tickets and guest ticket discounts for season ticket holders. The one thing I really appreciate about this venue is (and I repeat myself) the intimacy of the seating and stage. The stage literally ends at the edge of the first row. The most distant seats are no more than twenty feet from the stage, making the production even more real and audience connected. You get the feeling you are literally part of the play; there is no significant degree of separation between the actors and the audience. The other thing that I love is that it's literally a working company. Don Toner himself will often call back to confirm seating reservations. If it's not Don, it's frequently one of the other cast members. When you have a special request, there is no "box-office" detachment. And, at the end of the play, Don's waiting at the door to shake your hand and welcomes your comments regarding the performance. If you'd asked me ten years ago if I would ever be caught dead watching five plays a year, my answer would have been an emphatic "no". Thanks to one of Don's Actor's Equity members, John Hoff, I got hooked. John's no longer connected with the group as he's living in Colorado, but I thank him for instilling the appreciation for this troup in me. P.S. One of their most acclaimed productions is "Dead Presidents' Club", which is showing for one more day (11/9/2008) at Evans Auditorium at Texas State University-San Marcos. If you have time to catch this production today, do so. If you miss, pray for a summer revival in 2009!

Bass Concert Hall now offers additional restrooms past the foyer on four floors in a separate building; there were two people in front of me in line and zero behind me. Clue was comedic from beginning to end - like actually funny. The writing was witty and smart, the entire cast completely talented from head to toe. This summer it was Bring it On and past shows included Shrek, The Little Mermaid, Legally Blonde, Newsies, Hairspray and others. You can come early before the show and place your blanket down on the hillside to reserve your spot. It is a great location to watch an outdoor performance or show. The Zilker Hillside is an outdoor amphitheater venue located on a hillside in Zilker Park with a large stage, ample lighting capability, amenities, and location next to Barton Springs Pool and is the perfect spot for a dance recital, symphony or cultural event. Visitors are allowed to bring food and non-alcoholic beverages. The theater also has a concessions stand on site offering snacks and drinks. There are restrooms available. No dogs are allowed unless they are service dogs.

We were more off to the right side on the stage and could still see fairly well and could hear everything perfectly. They do have plenty of trash cans around so please clean up after yourself. At the merch/sales table they have programs and surveys that help them with data for grants and benefits by showing who makes up their expansive audience. The night I was there they did a drawing for a gift card if you filled out an information slip and I actually won a BookPeople gift card! Please buy something/tip/add money to the actors buckets that come around so that they can continue to provide awesome, quality free entertainment to the community. At first we met online and now we meet in person. When I began classes with her I was suffering from debilitating chronic pain and could only dance for 5 minutes before needing to take a break. She was happy to incorporate accommodations for me when my feet were hurting or injured, for instance, we would do a seated chair class and focus on chest and arm isolations instead of leg movements. She always found a way to incorporate movement while working around my health issues, injuries, or surgeries. Now I can dance for hours and am teaching my own dance classes. I highly recommend seeking Samantha out if you have any chronic health issues that would improve with low impact exercise. She is also highly educated in these different art forms and is able to discuss the history of belly dance. It offers two individual theaters showing new movies on weekends, which have been renovated relatively recently with super comfy seats. The tickets are the cheapest you'll find in a theater today: $6.50 for ALL ages. You can't beat that price. You can purchase your tickets in-person or on Fandango. You can also rent out the place for viewing parties, video game tournaments, etc., the latter of which I've done before and it's really intense with their sound system! I've had a great experience every time I've gone to The Howard. The staff is friendly, the tickets and concessions are really affordable, and the theater is comfortable. All in all, this place is pretty flippin sweet. I highly recommend it!
