Ambience looks and smells like decaying old money. Too many colors, too many patterns, some chipping on the walls, pictures of old golfers and presidents that were crooked on the walls. Service was fantastic by the drink waiter, but our waitress was inattentive. She had to double check all our orders, got our room numbers before the meal, was clearly annoyed we wanted dessert. The bread was cold and a little stale. The mushroom soup had maybe 4 slices of baby portabella and had no salt or pepper in it. The lobster Mac & cheese had 5 little pieces of lobster meat. Pasta at least was cooked Al dente and had plenty of cheese sauce, but honestly nothing to write home about. And again, there is a resort fee, a historical fee and an automatic 20% gratuity!!! Had a great meal. Not my favorite restaurant at the Greenbrier- but it was an above average meal for the price. Cocktail menu is the same as most of the places onsite. One side is dance evening dining room with galley kitchen (which I love). The other side is the casual bar side open all day for golfers. read more

After touring the underground bunker ( I highly recommend it ) we decided to have lunch at Sam Sneads. Seeing as how large the Greenbrier is we needed to take their free shuttle to get there. We ordered the Spring salad with Salmon & the Club sandwich. Both were quite good and our server, Sara, did a nice job of taking care of us. The Greenbrier adds an automatic 20% gratuity to your bill so be mindful of that. One other nice thing is if you're lucky enough to get a table at or near the window you will have a beautiful view of the 18th green of one of the 5 golf courses on the property. Although our lunch wasn't exactly on the inexpensive side ( Being at the beautiful Greenbrier we fully expected that ) we really enjoyed our experience & we will absolutely come back. read more

This place was fine. I was hoping for a little more at the Greenbrier to be honest. The service was good but they seemed understaffed over the summer. The food took a while to be served and it was just okay when it showed up. We were able to sit and look over a part of the golf course which is a nice view. Basically, eat here if you're heading to or coming back from the golf course. Otherwise, I'm sure there is better dining on property. read more

I have to give this place 5-stars if for nothing else the best club sandwich ever made! I have to this at least once (usually two or three times) when I visit the Greenbrier. They also have a great burger. I tried the crab salad at the insistence of my wife during our second visit of our stay at the GB to Sam Snead's. I really wanted another club but she said I had to eat something that resembled a healthier option. I'm not telling my wife but the crab salad was really good (almost club sandwich good). Didn't know where to eat at the Greenbriar Resort, so we asked and were sent here. It's at the golf club and requires a shuttle. Very gentlemen club feeling. I ordered a glass of wine and Bob a Bloody Mary....it was a work of art! Menu was all over the place. I had possibly the best salad ever...loads of crab, avocado, oranges, Bibb lettuce and green goddess dressing. Perfect in every way. Bob had a nathans hotdog...dressed to kill. He ate it without ever setting it down. I might have stolen a few fries from his plate cause they were so yummy. Killer view of one of the courses here. They automatically add a 20 percent gratuity with a line to add additional. I figured that out before I added the entire tip. So be careful there. Shuttle runs continuously from main resort to club. Easy to get around. Can't wait for my next trip here. read more

My wife and I are here twice for lunch on our honeymoon. It was one of our most favorite at the resort. The service was outstanding. The first visit I had a Caesar salad and the hotdog (warning it's huge!) and the second time I had a pizza which was great. I'd highly recommend this option! read more

Did you know the Greenbrier had a raw bar? Me either! But on Halloween, I certainly had a good "spook" with some scallops that were all but raw. Seared to a pale blonde on one side, if these bad boys even got 30 seconds in a hot pan, it would surprise me. The pork belly bits were so charred they were inedible, and Brussels sprouts and micro greens were grossly over dressed. the worst dining experience I've ever had. we celebrated my grandfather's 80th birthday here and everything that could've possibly went wrong did. everything was horribly overpriced for some of the worst food I've ever had. The caesar salad that was 16 dollars was microscopic and when I asked for it without anchovies, it still came with it. My aunt's lobster Mac and cheese came without lobster. Each of the steaks were disgusting. I'm in utter disbelief that a meal so bad could cost so much. 0/10 recommend. read more

Old school menu in a golf setting. We had dinner our first night at the Greenbrier. Service was steady, drinks were strong and tasty. Salads overall were satisfying. The main entrées themselves were decent, but not outstanding in any way. My wife had the fried chicken dish that had a weird color but a good taste. She compared it to Shake and Bake. My crabmeat stuffed shrimp was just average. Her dessert, a lemon meringue pie, had a interesting presentation and a good taste. read more

I have been coming to The Greenbrier for 20 years. We went there for our last family dinner after staying a week; it was a major disappointment. First, the positives -- the service was superlative -- friendly, honest, full of positive energy, very professional. The view is also pretty over the golf course and mountains. Unfortunately, the food is basic country club grill food at astronomical prices -- partly because G now adds 32.5% to everything -- $50 for a bowl of risotto -- $50 for a chicken dinner -- $25 for a basic Caesar salad with nothing added. I don't mind paying for top-quality food but not such ridiculous prices for basic fare. It needs completely overhauled and we will never eat there again. The GM tried to fix it on the way out and was professional but whomever created the business model for the new golf grill at G missed by a mile. read more

The service was excellent and so was the view. It was over cooled. The bread basket had fresh rolls with both butter and herbed butter. My char was slightly overcooked, but very good. The menu had a number of excellent and unique items. My only complaint is that the Heirloom Tomato & Watermelon salad used GMO Cherry Tomatoes (it appeared to me). They weren't sweet. They were red on the outside, but green on the inside. It is expensive, but not ridiculous. read more

This cozy spot in Hot Springs was perfect for a rainy night. The hosts and waiters were so friendly and attentive. The craft cocktails were delicious! Because they are only serving bbq currently, we will have to return one day for the full menu. We had the salads, bbq pulled pork sandwiches, and a side of mac-n-cheese. Everything was delicious! We have been going to the Greenbrier for years and this was our favorite restaurant. This trip, though, it was a horrible experience. Long story short - my wife ordered shrimp cocktail and it smelled bad so she sent it back. Server/waiter did not seem overly concerned and, unfortunately, no manager came to talk to us about the issue. I ordered raw oysters and salmon. Everything seemed ok when I was eating the food. When we left there was a smell of bad fish in the air - something we had never experienced there before. Also, was continually buzzed by a fruit fly the entire time we were eating. Around 5-6 hours after eating I became violently ill and was sick the entire evening. I was also out of sorts the following day - ruining an entire day of our stay at the resort. We originally had reservations for 2 nights during our 4 night visit although after our experience the first night we (obviously)cancelled our second reservation. Don't know that we will go back to the resort - had issues 3 of the 4 nights we were there with our food- from 3 different restaurants - as well as issues with the room. Given the prices charged you would think/hope for a good quality meal. read more

I really enjoyed this upscale steak and seafood restaurant during a recent visit to the Greenbrier. Located in the golf clubhouse (a short walk or shuttle ride from the main building), Sam Snead's serves up great food in a wonderful setting, with spectacular views of the Greenbrier golf course and the West Virginia mountains. And while jackets are not required, you'll feel a bit under-dressed without one. I thoroughly enjoyed my baked Salmon entree, and the sides we ordered for the table (baked cauliflower, lobster Mac n' Cheese) were also wonderful. The wine selection was superb, and the service for our party of 10 was spot-on. Sam Snead's is the perfect spot to wrap up a day at America's favorite resort. read more

We had dinner yesterday at Sam Snead's. It was our first night at the Greenbrier. First the positives - the service was excellent. The waiter was very accommodating as we have a couple with Celiacs disease. He checked with the kitchen a few times to ensure there was no cross contamination. Now the areas which can be improved - the food was subpar. The half chicken was bland. The vegetables lacked flavor. The wild rice wasn't seasoned well. The salmon tasted fishy and was a tad bit over cooked. To be fair, the kids enjoyed the hot dog and chicken fingers. I've had very good food at country clubs. We didn't want to say anything to the manager at the time because nothing would have changed the meal. We will be dining at the other Greenbrier restaurants the next couple nights and hope that the culinary experience is better. read more

What a disappointment! Two for dinner. In this restaurant the Greenbrier continues the culinary theme we've observed ... Excellent, friendly service , but extremely oily and unhealthy food. I'd rate tonight's experience this way ... Service: 4 to 4.5, probably more like 4.5 Atmosphere: 3.5 Quality of food: 2 (one meal had to be sent back and both were sickeningly oily) Quantity of food: 2.5 Value: 1.5 Dinner for two (moderately priced entrees), a relatively inexpensive bottle of wine and a salad to share was $154 including taxes and built-in gratuity. (No desserts.) Would we return? Not a chance! Note to future Greenbrier guests: Might want to see what culinary alternatives exist off the property. read more

Great place for a and quick meal and to take in a football game. This is the only place I found at the Greenbrier where the food and the service were excellent. Maybe they should pass some tips on to the main hotel where service is the worst I've seen in years. The Greenbrier is more understaffed than a Super 8 or Motel 6. read more

The wait staff was excellent. It's a typical golf course restaurant. Wife had the pulled pork sandwich. The pork was flavorful, smoky and tasty, however, there was too much BBQ sauce. In addition, the coleslaw on top was extremely runny and ruined the sandwich by making it soggy. I had the traditional Rueben sandwich, which is an unfortunate name because it was not traditional. The corned beef was flavorless and needed more pickling spice or something. Also, the bread was toasted and not grilled as is typical for a traditional Rueben. My fries where also limp and not crispy. And to top it off, the kitchen it open air so we heard the chef berating his staff. read more

TOTALLY OVERRATED The lighting is terribly bright. The service was good and the food average at best. Don't go here. There is a steakhouse (prime 44) at the main hotel that murders this place. No comparison. Frankly I can't compare to Las Vegas because it would be like comparing high school football team to the nfl. But whatever. We ate at Sam Snead's last night while staying at The Greenbrier. Wow! Our server, Heather, was just great!! Just a wonderful evening and wonderful dinner. Service was TOP NOTCH and they went above and beyond with everything and on top of that - 2 other bonuses - the maitre d' apologized that he was a little late in bringing our glasses of wine to go with dinner - so he comped them! Then we were taking about going to Draper's in the main building for ice cream but they closed at 9:00 last night - so they called up there and got the ice cream to go and brought it back to our dinner table! My parents and I came to Sam Sneads for dinner to celebrate Father's Day. From the excellent service (waitress was helpful, delightful, and attentive; other wait staff who helped pour water, carry plates, serve plates, and a Manager also stopped by our table to greet us and ask how service was going were all spectacular) to the deliciously phenomenal food there to the primarily appropriately priced menu items, we left feeling satisfied beyond reproach. Let's talk about the food: we began with the lump crab and cornbread appetizer and pork belly bbq watermelon appetizer. Both were equally outstanding (though I will say we wished there was a bit more crab, but not complaining about the portion. The corn bread was very tasty and I typically shy away ftom cornbread because it isn't cooked with much taste at other places. The pork belly dish blew me away. The pairings for that dish were extremely complementary. The read and flatbread cracker with the avocado dip was delicious! I ordered the scallops, dad order the Sam Snead, mom ordered the salmon. Mom's salmon was a bit on the smaller size for its price compared to other dish items, but it was prepared properly and to her liking. Dad's 14 oz steak came with a potato the size of the steak and barely finished because of the large portion (atypical for him to not finish and still eat some of mom's dish, but he was full!), but he really enjoyed it! My scallops were cooked to perfection - I appreciated that there was not a crunch to it like some scallops I've had in the past elsewhere due to improper cleaning. Needless to say we did not have room for dessert even though we looked at the menu and wanted to order a couple things off the menu. To our surprise, we were given 3 large complimentary cookies to go. Thank you for making our experience unforgettable. read more
