This is a bit of an odd place, and hard to put your finger on why. It's set up like a fine-dining sort of sushi place, but the place settings were all askew and the TVs were just weird? There were at least 3 TVs that I could see from my seat that all just show slow-motion videos of their own food, on a constant loop. Nothing on the menu was particularly authentic, or as you'd expect. Even the spicy tuna roll was not your typical chopped tuna - it was a regular tuna roll with spicy mayo on the outside. The menu descriptions were also vague and confusing. The "hot rolls" were "deep fried hossomaki" with miscellaneous toppings. The roll was salmon, even though that wasn't mentioned. Same with the "gunkan" which was salmon wrapped around rice with cream cheese. There's so much cream cheese in all of the sushi. It's always fun to examine cross-culture cuisines. In this case, it's Brazilian sushi. One of the main differences between that and more US-style sushi is that in Brazilian sushi, the maki (rolls) mostly include cream cheese, so if you don't like cream cheese, don't eat their maki. The thing was that by the time we got the bill, there was a +$20 fee tacked onto each person who got the AYCE. It was labeled as "artist appreciation". Waitstaff get very few credits or even reviews, but Kalede deserves one! He was very polite, on time, gave good recommendations, was attentive to our needs and overall very cool to hang with! We started with the Gunkan Fire which was a delightful salmon and cream cheese Gunkan, which is a combination of fish with different flavors like garlic, onion, doritos (yes, I did not spell this wrong), strawberry, passion fruit and others. These are very reasonably price, except for this plate that added alcohol and they fired it up right at the plate, it was a very cool spectacle and worthy of the show, but maybe not the value. We also loved that the restaurant paid homage to the local towns in the area, by naming the combos like Framingham, Natick, Cape Cod (Sashimi), Everett & Needham. They are differently priced based on sizes and we went with the Natick, which had (6) Sashimi, (8) Makimono, (4) California Maki and (4) Gunkans. What we loved was the decoration and the inspired and innovative combinations of the plate, it looked very nice. We also enjoyed the music, the musician played Pink Floyd, Beatles, Bob Marley, Brazilian Samba, which may have been their inspiration for the Santana Sashimi that we ordered which was a Escolar Fish with Lemon Pepper. It was a bit buttery and resembled swordfish somehow and it was good and different. Overall, the place is good and innovative, but the sushi and the plates were a bit bland, lacking a bit of flavor in their combinations. The sashimi were good, but missing some of the oily and savory flavor of the fish, except for the escolar, which actually had a little bit much. The inspiration is there, the design of the plates are innovative, the music was delightful and our server was one of a kind. Having said that, to get that extra star, the restaurant just needs to focus more on the flavors and the value strategy, which has been commented on other threads and could be the difference maker. This is a unique restaurant in Framingham and a much welcome addition to a location that has traditionally seen growth in steakhouse and just starting to see other varieties like Vietnamese, bakeries, Peruvian, etc. Looking forward to coming back and see what else is in store in the future. read more

The ambiance at Sam Sushi Art & Music was laid back but elevated and the music was great. The music was a little loud but it was nice not hearing the conversations around us. The food was a 10/10 for me. I loved the square salmon sashimi. Perfect balance of savory, sweet, crunchy greens on top and buttery soft salmon. I'd order this again! Unfortunately we had a hiccup in our dinner party and one of the people in our group didn't get their meal until everyone was served and done eating. She ordered chicken fettuccine Alfredo, but it looked like a very rushed and poorly made pasta with nuggets thrown on top, which was very unfortunate. Staff was very understanding and willing to accommodate. They did the courtesy of comping her meal and her drink. Tonight I went to a party and stopped at Sam Sushi... afterwards with my daughter. Although we had already eaten we decided to grab a few pieces of sushi from their buffet. The food was great and the drinks were great as well! The owner noticed we didn't eat very much and came over. I think he felt we were underwhelmed which is far from the case. The food was amazing! I appreciated him coming over to us and chatting for a bit and making sure we were ok. I was given water and I ordered the Orange Chicken ($16) served with jasmine rice. I was also given a complementary sample of seafood salad in a mayo dressing which was tasty. The Orange Chicken arrived, served on a big plate. The pieces of deep fried chicken was very firm covered in a light sweet sauce and sesame seed. The rice had a dense sticky texture too. After I finished, I passed on the offer for more food and dessert. The check was presented, but with an 18 percent gratuity already added for one person. I looove this place. I've been here about 4 times now, and have recommended it to all my sushi lover friends. The food is fenomenal, they have a honey mustard torched salmon that melts in your mouth. I'm so surprised to see negative reviews. This is an upscale restaurant, so expectations have to be adjusted accordingly. The food will be expensive, but in my opinion, the sushi was exquisite. I've eaten at many of the major sushi places around here - Aoi, Samba Sushi, Fugakyu, Oishii Too, OGA, Takaras, Crazy Stone, etc. In my opinion, the 2 items I had - Hannah Roll and the Salmon Square - were just extremely fresh, soft, delicate, flavorful, nuanced and beautifully presented. I was really pleased with my lunch. To me, this place is a standout for sushi. I would come here again. It feels more like a good place for a work event (read: bigger budget and expensible) or for adults only. I would bring my elementary schooled kids who love sushi, but only once to try. I'm not trying to be mean, but i came here with my boyfriend once. We wanted to try the place because it was new. My boyfriend is Afro-Brazilian and so having a new brazilian joint with and Asian concept seemed pretty cool plus new places are always fun. When we got to the place they had just opened for the day so we were the only guest in the building. Entering the building, I felt like the concept of the place was just ALL OVER THE PLACE. Not even sure what they were trying to do. I understand that this place is also trying to be a "fine-dine" type of sushi joint. But it really was not working. Their sushi specials are about almost $25 dollars for 8 pieces. 8 decorated pieces of sushi with edible flowers on them. And tbh, i'm pretty sure it was a regular special dish. And to make it worse their dishes weren't that great. I would say that the salmon my boyfriend ordered was the best thing. And i don't even like salmon. I got the Gyudon. Which tasted like sushi rice, (which is completely different than white rice) with beef and onions and soy sauce. Maybe the rice is suppose to be like sushi, which is fine, but why is it drowning is the sauce. Literally drowning. I honestly couldn't finish it (and it was a small portion...) Another thing that was pretty bad was the staff. I forget the names, but honestly the staff was super unprofessional. They didn't pay any attention to us, which is fine, but it honestly felt like we were just forgotten when we were literally the only people in there. The staff stood around the front door with their phones out, and the girls were talking about their OnlyFans account. Nothing wrong with that... Get your money girl! But it was just really unprofessional. And their manager too, at least i think he was... To make matters worse, they really were discriminating me and my boyfriend. I am Asian, and my by boyfriend is Afro-Brazilian. I understand that we also look young, and i understand the times that we are currently in right now, being it is a pandemic. But this is the first place I've ever been in where they place they applied gratitude on to the check. My boyfriend and I have both been in positions of server, both fine-dine and casual-dining, so we know how tipping works. We even tip over the amount average service tip of 20%. We tend to give 30-50% depending on how good the service is. At first we didn't even notice the applied gratitude, and we were still gonna tip how we normally do, but when we saw that, we just felt like the restaurant assumed that we weren't going to tip. Overall, in my opinion, it's not worth spending $100 for two alcoholic drinks, which were make incorrectly, two meals and a sushi appetizers. The presentation of sushi is nice, but if you want quality sushi that's worth your money and good japanese food, i would just spend 30 per person at Minados instead down RT9. Warning!! Do not order from this restaurant through Uber Eats!! They will tell your Uber Eats delivery person that your $90 order of food was already picked up even if your delivery person arrives right on time. Something really sketchy is going on there. The restaurant still gets the money covered by Uber when this happens and has no empathy toward the customer for their mistakes. Refuses to admit fault and remake the order so the consumer is totally left hanging. Horrible customer service and honestly it's overpriced for what you get.
