The Fish and Chip and Fishermen Platter are excellent and reasonably priced. They come with French fries or fried onion rings, or half n' half combo plus coleslaw. Service is excellent. Some seating for maybe 20 people. Also a complete ice cream selection. read more

I was very happy that this restaurant was opening in our area. The food is very, very good, but I find it to be a little on the expensive side. Their fried clams and seafood are outstanding. I even had a grilled cheese that was really great. The staff are very friendly and helpful. I was a bit worried that they were only going to be at the end of my street and I would be there constantly, but I guess maybe the prices are keeping me away a little bit. Upon entering, one lady was super nice and made small talk. Ordered two burgers, chicken sandwich and a large onion ring side. Discovered a bug cooked into an onion ring. It was definitely in the batter. I understand stuff like this can happen at any restaurant. But didn't like how it was handled. Brought it up to show the tall young lady by the cashier and she just said 'oh, sorry about that' and that's it. They should at least replace the order or offer a refund for that item. Ordered two kids meals tonight: one chicken tender and one hamburger. We got home and there were so little fries (like 10 fries in each) that we had to call and go back to get more fries. I get it's a kids meal, but see picture for what we opened at home. We called and they said either come back and get more or sorry. Don't get me wrong, I was glad they gave us more fries, but when we picked them up and I showed the picture, the girl at counter basically said "just so you know there are not a lot of fries that come with these meals". Formerly CJ's and Rileys Roast Beef, Murphy's Eats & Treats opened a second location in the Nobscot section of Framingham. This popular local casual eatery and ice cream shop is open year round. The Ashland location is seasonal and is closed during the colder months. They serve up burgers, sandwiches, hot dogs, chicken tenders, fried seafood, salads, ice cream treats, and cold drinks (Coke products). Their fresh seafood is supplied by Captain Marden's Seafoods in Wellesley. I stopped by the new Framingham location for dinner. The place is pretty cozy with a pink and seagreen color theme, order at the counter place with table seating and seating along the front window. I ordered the Fried Clam Strips ($13.50 plus tax) with Fries & Cole Slaw and a Banana Split ($9.25 plus tax). Since I was eating in, they prepared the Fried Clam Strips first and made my Banana Split when I finished the fried food. The breaded fried clam strips and fries were deep fried golden and hot to perfection, dipping into the tartar sauce and ketchup. The shredded cole slaw had a tangy tart flavor. The portion size of the fried foods was just right and filling. The banana split had 3 scoops of ice cream, split banana, 3 topping sauces, topped with whipped cream and cherry. The scoops of ice cream were not the big, but I got to choose 3 different flavors including pumpkin, coffee oreo, and mint chocolate chip, plus peanut butter sauce, hot fudge and strawberry sauce. This is similar to a loaded ice cream flight. Overall, a great place to stop for food snd ice cream. The staff was friendly and the place wasn't too busy probably because of the rainy weather. Some of the staff here seemed new and still in training mode. In about a couple weeks after this posting, they should also be serving roast beef sandwiches. read more

This review is for the Framingham location. AND, this isn't a review about the food, but their lack information and food. A few weeks ago I wanted to surprise my son with a visit to Murphy's in Framingham. I had heard their roast beef sandwiches were great, and followed the previous owner's recipe. I used to live in that area and loved Riley's roast beef sandwiches. Murphy's Framingham is about a 20 minute drive, so I first called to ask for their hours. They said they were open until 8pm. We arrived at 7pm and ordered 2 roast beef sandwiches. But, we were told, they stop serving food at 7pm and now only serve ice cream. Literally at 7pm on the dot. This was not conveyed on the phone call nor does it say this anywhere on their Facebook page. So, we left to go instead to Gianni's across the street. On the way out I noticed a door sign that said food was only served until 7pm. Not very convenient to find this out only when you get there! So fine. A few weeks later I decide to try it again. And I call ahead to confirm they're open and serving food until 7pm. I arrived at 6pm and ordered a roast beef sandwich, only to be told that they just ran out of roast beef! "Ran out of roast beef?" I asked. "It happens a lot" they said. Great. Second time driving all the way to Murphy's for nothing. Again, nowhere does it say that roast beef is limited and one should get there early to ensure they haven't run out. They asked if I wanted something else, but I just turned around and walked out - mainly so I didn't take out my anger on the young servers who were not at fault. So the reality is that don't now, nor will I ever know, what their roast beef sandwiches taste like because I'll never go back. I appreciate that running a restaurant is difficult and a lot of work. But, be respectful of your customer's time. Share on your website or Facebook page the food service hours and that you sometimes/often run out of roast beef later in the day. Or, if you can do it cost effectively, make more roast beef so you don't run out. read more

New place to try, wondered what to try so got a trio, seafood platter, Murphy's burger and a crispy chicken sandwich and an extra thick frappe. Since it was a Friday night it was busy. Service counter was filled with other patrons waiting for their take out orders. Noticed some tables for dining in. Only tried the fisherman platter, but it was all good, no grit on the clams and the scallops were tasty. Time of fries. Love that. Will try the burger and sandwich soon enough, the shake is made from Richardson's ice cream, so that should be a treat. read more

Food is great, prices are fantastic! Outside seating is dog friendly. The inside is a typical diner atmosphere. I brought my dog there for her 1st birthday and got her a plain hamburger patty. $2 well spent! Very inconsistent. Went two weeks ago and all the burgers were great. Went last night and the burger was over cooked and the roast beef I had heard a lot about was dry and tasteless. Wow, an $8.00, allegedly "large" cup of ice cream, has been value-engineered to the size of a pimple. Crazy! I get inflation, increasing costs of labor, goods and services, but, this is nuts. This location is not Newbury Street in Boston, or Fenway Park. We've been coming here for years. We'll make one more visit, to see if things improve; if not, we're done with Murphy's. I went with 3 other women for lunch. Menu is basic American, burgers, fries, grilled cheese, seafood etc. They have a large selection of ice cream, sundaes, frozen yogurt. Our lunch was good. The onion rings were excellent. The woman having the tuna sandwich said it was really good. One woman was having a birthday, and we had a tray of frozen yogurt brought to the table. 3 different flavors. It was delicious. But the best thing about the place was the staff. Inconsistent food - my first visit was three weeks ago with a friend and I had such a great, juicy burger that I couldn't wait to bring my new husband as part of "get to know Ashland"! Well, it turned out tonight was perfect weather to sit outside with a burger and frappe - so, off to Murphy's we went! Being one of the last Sunday evenings of summer, there were a lot of people and the crew was really busy. Our frappe was delicious, but the burgers were so dry that, sadly, we probably won't be back for those. There are other options on the menu, for sure, so I'll probably meet friends there again next season, but probably just get ice cream - because it's nearly impossible to mess that up. This review is for the widely anticipated release of their roast beef sandwiches. Murphy's opened several months ago but did not start offering roast beef sandwiches until they could get acclimated and (according to them) , "get it right." I ordered a beef last night with cheese and mayo. The people answering the phone are nice, and will read your order back to you (something I appreciate). I asked for BBQ sauce on the side. The girl confirmed which sauce I wanted and told me it would be on the side. I grabbed my sandwich and fries and got home to realize, nope, no sauce on the side. If you are a fan of roast beef's, you know that this is not a HUGE deal, but it's a serious bummer (think salad with no dressing). But the roast beef sandwich was SO DRY. I'm not kidding, there were two times I was eating this thing and I had to chug water to force the bite of food down my esophagus. Beef was completely gray with no pink at all. Had to fish a jar of mayo out of my fridge to add some lubricant to the sandwich. If you were waiting to "get it right" to serve the sandwich I had last night, you need to keep working on this. As others have said, they are really hard to get in touch with. For a while their phone would just ring and ring and their website wouldn't work. High-quality, made-to-order food that did not disappoint! I came on a Friday night for dinner and everything was great. The food was super fresh, tasty, and big portions for the price. We got a fish sandwich, burger, and a few fried seafood platters (and ice cream). They get their seafood from Captain Marden's Seafood in Wellesely, so it was high-quality seafood. Everything came in individual to-go boxes, so it was super easy to eat outside and share everything. Plus, we got a puppy cone - which was on Murphy's! They are pet-friendly. Service was relatively quick and we got our food for 5 in about 10 minutes after placing our order. The ice cream line was long, but it was always moving and everyone behind the counter was super friendly. We'll definitely be coming back before they close for the season. read more
