I love this place and that man that runs it! Home cooked Persian food at its best. Simple menu. You can sit and eat if you like as well. The owner is the nicest, most kind individual. The inside is not exactly like a nice eatery or restaurant, but it does the job. I come here for the food and not the atmosphere anyway, so it doesn't matter to me. A death of their choice, which would probably be death by Samad-rai Sword. It's really weird ri to find this place, looking like a run-down residence, next to a train track and hidden away in the lot of an auto sales business. I've been in Dallas for 1 year and for my Persian food fix I have been traveling to the Dallas burbs when I don't feel like slaving away in kitchen for hours trying to recreate the meals my Persian grandmother makes. Thanks to yelp, I recently discovered this lovely hideaway (within walking distance of my apartment)!! I grabbed a coworker and we headed over. My female colleague and I pull up and the (very) small parking lot is full at 12:15PM. We park in the lot next door (with permission from said owner), and slowly walk over. Upon entering, the smell of "Iran" takes over and I am brought back to my roots. The two of us were the only women in the restaurant, but we quickly got over that, and got ready to savor some delicious food. Tuesday's special was ghormasabze.... One of my favorite dishes. There was so much food that the owner offered not only a to-go container, but added extra rice for our next meal! A very sweet man! Since we do not have any Persian Restaurants in Fort Worth, grabbing some Persian food during our next trip to Dallas has been on the to-do list for some time. By spending New Year's in Dallas, we were afforded such an opportunity. After a nice visit to the Dallas World Aquarium, we settled on Samad Cafe. There were a handful of other Persian restaurants in the area, such as in Richardson and beyond, but none really in Dallas. After reading the reviews we definitely had the expectation going in that this place is a greasy-spoon/hole-in-the-wall type. Wow, I really cannot emphasize that enough. It is really easy to miss as the descriptions are quite apt, just a house-like structure in a small parking lot next to an auto sales sign. But don't be fooled, the food Samad serves is great! We both rolled with the daily specials, the kabobs. I went with the ground beef (kubideh) and The Girlfriend had the chicken. Both were covered in a hefty serving of rice with a nice glob of butter for you to mix in as you dig in. The rice was flavorful and moist and the kabobs were delicious. Kabobs dry out quite easily during the cooking process and that was not the problem here. Great portions, great flavor and all for a cheap price! After a few drinks our total order was about $20.00 (cash only). The owner adds to the experience as well. A nice, amiable fellow who has been at this location serving home-cooked Persian food for 23 years. If you love Persian food or if you are just feeling a bit adventurous in Dallas, definitely hit up Samad. It will be my go-to Persian place in Dallas from here on out. read more

Wow, what a cute little restaurant. I stumbled upon this little place as my husband and I were looking for a quick bite to eat during his lunch break from school. When we actually pulled into the lot, I didn't realize it was a restaurant - it is very hidden! As soon as we walked in I knew I would love. The food is authentic Persian, so delicious. The owner greeted us like family, and welcomed us into his home/restaurant. We ordered the kofta kabob and a side of hummus. The prices were very reasonable and the food was very delicious! As we were finishing, the owner wanted to put more food on our plates haha. I felt like I was at my family friend's home. If you don't know where Samad Cafe is, you won't know where it is, but you NEED to know where it is because the Persian food here is DELICIOUS!! :) Bring your cash, because the restaurant is a CASH ONLY enterprise. Park next door at something automotive (that is long out of business) in this industrial area. We passed it twice before we saw the sign, and even then weren't sure because it shares a small building with a used car business of some sort. Look for the small brass letters that say RESTAURANT. Ta da!! :) I had the daily special of Ghormah Sabzi, which is beef cooked with spinach, peas, and spices served over fragrant basmati rice. The beef was fall apart tender without being mushy. It was DELICIOUS!!! My husband had the lamb Shankar special, large chunks of meltingly tender lamb stewed with tomatoes and onions with rice. Where do you begin for a restaurant that has been there for 29 years accd to the owner and the menu being consistent as well. Samad is one of those hidden , homely food spots that are very rear in this day and age along with still surviving this very tough industry. This place is as basic as it gets... He has a menu for 6 days out of the week along with Beef or Chicken kebabs that are everyday. I have attached the menu in the pics for everyones viewing. Food tastes great as if your own mama cooked it with love, you can tell by just looking at his kitchen that he keeps its simple and affordable for all. Service is great and this is a place where you have to come back at least once a month or so just to talk with the owner. The only time prices have risen is when the prices went up from the supplier. Yes this place is a hole in the wall. Yes it looks old. Yes it looks like there is no parking. (Just park in the fenced in lot on the north side) But one thing it most certainly is, it's authentic. When you think of the definition of a hole in the wall restaurant, you might as well just picture Samad because that's what you're going to get. In business for over 20+ years, this Persian man knows what he is cooking. Cash only with limited hours and closed Sundays.. those are signs of success in the food industry! Persian food for me always equals the Koobideh, a traditional beef kabob that's always tender and flavorful, with hints of fresh smoke from the grill. This place does it right, and had the BEST tahdig (crisp rice). I also tried the chicken kabob, but definitely was not a fan of it. In fact, I would highly suggest to steer clear of it. Make sure to get a side of yogurt to eat along with your rice! The true test for great Persian will be if the ghormeh sabzi is any good! More to come on that oen! read more
