I did NOT have a good experience at this dentist and do not recommend Dr. Truong at all. I take great care of my teeth and brush/floss above average for a normal person. I have never had any negative experiences or diagnoses at a dentist until I went to Capital City Smiles. I went to this dentist and all the sudden was "diagnosed" with a multitude of things that conveniently have tons of continuous treatment requirements and product requirements. For example, they said I have gum damage or disease or something and I needed to do a treatment where I come every few months for the next year to flush out my gums (my gums are entirely fine, I have no issues or swelling so this was just entirely false). Then they said I have to start using a specific prescription toothpaste for the rest of my life (I don't know ANYONE who uses prescription toothpaste) and also recommended I start using a prescription mouthwash that coincidentally has a side effect of turning your teeth brown?? Like why would I use that!!?? Anyway these are just a few examples of things they randomly threw at me on my very first visit leaving me extremely upset, and unfortunately since dentistry is a low stakes medical profession they can tac on random charges, procedures, and treatment plans that cost you thousands of dollars that you don't need at all. To confirm all of this I have since gotten a second opinion at another dentist (Dr. Jay @ Treaty Oak Dental - HIGHLY RECOMMEND) who said my checkup was perfect and Dr. Truong and her team were fully creating issues where none existed. Her prognosis was aggressive and borderline malpractice (read the other yelp review). She diagnosed me with 6 cavities and a slew of other issues. Something felt "off" when I visited her office. While discussing treatment options with the reception staff, I communicated my concerns and the receptionist got incredibly defensive and acted strangely. I asked for the # of cavities in writing to have documentation, and when they sent me the files, they changed the number of cavities to 4. This prompted me to get a second opinion. The new dentist said I had no cavities or issues that required any aggressive treatment. This dentist and staff cannot be trusted. read more

Everyone at Capital City Smiles is warm and welcoming. The moment you walk in the door you feel like a beautiful ray of sunshine just welcomed you. Arden is always so warm, smiling and welcoming. And then you have Dr. Truong who is also always smiling and talking to you with so much care that all your nervousness being in a Dentist's office just vanish. I have had Destinee and Madison assist Dr. Truong during my multiple sessions that I have had to have and they are also phenomenal and always very gentle, caring and considerate. I personally think that any doctors visit is nerve wrecking but for me - a visit to the dentist has always been the worst. But Dr. Truong and Capital City Smiles have finally helped me get rid of my fear of dentists to where I actually enjoy going there and interacting with everyone. I had a great experience today at Capital City Smiles with Dr. Truong and her staff. Like most people, I had put off oral care on my teeth for quite some time that I was quite embarrassed about. Because I was lax on my brushing and flossing, I needed to have a couple fillings along with a thorough teeth cleaning. Dr. Truong and her staff were extremely friendly, courteous, and provided a lot of information to put me at ease. Through out the whole process, Dr Truong informed me what she was doing, explained it in layman's terms, asked me several times how I was holding up and if I needed to take a small break. After the procedure was done, I had a thorough teeth cleaning by the hygienist, Brenda. Like Dr. Truong, Brenda also walked me thru the treatment and explained each step of the process during the procedure. Unlike other dentist practitioners who constantly push for additional cost treatments/services/products, Dr. Truong only recommends what is needed. You get a sense right away that Dr. Truong truly cares about her patients. In fact, I received a checkup call from Dr. Truong this evening at 8pm to see how I was doing. I highly recommend Dr. Truong and the wonderful staff at Capital City Smiles. read more

I had a very similar negative experience to some previous comments. Dr. Truong said I had multiple cavities when I have never had any in my life. I read reviews before my appointment so afterwards I also second guessed her diagnosis and got a second opinion. After going somewhere else I found out I have zero cavities and am very thankful I did not get fillings that were not necessary. The second dentist was very confused to where the cavities could of been. My teeth were slightly stained which could look like a cavity so make sure to do your research before moving forward with any procedures! read more

I don't think they are being completely honest / transparent about their treatment options and cost estimates. First visit - teeth cleaning & examination - they were really nice the first time and told me I needed to get fillings ASAP, because I have some chipped teeth and a cavity. They didn't inform me or offer me any other options other than fillings (they just told me it is necessary and urgent, even though I didn't feel any pain / discomfort on a regular basis). Then they gave me an estimate which is $300 after UT student dental insurance without telling me this only covers part of the fillings. They scheduled me an appointment for the chipped tooth fillings (costs $300) immediately in the following week, but "forgot" to schedule me for another teeth cleaning (which only costs $20). Only after my second visit (chipped teeth fillings) did they reveal that they were going to do my other half fillings next time (including the cavity which apparently is more severe than chipped tooth), which costs another $360 and will eat up all my insurance allowance ($1000), leaving me nothing in my plan for teeth cleaning or other appointments later. Red flags: 1. Not honest about TOTAL filling costs; 2. Not offering other OPTIONS for chipped tooth; 3. Did not tell me they were going to leave the cavity treatment to the third time (tricking you to come back again); 4. Trying to UPSALE me (fillings & also their in-house plan is really expensive). 5. All five-star reviews on Google map? 6. I didn't see anyone else but another patient coming in during my two visits. 7. Not following up with my next teeth cleaning appointment but immediately schedule me for fillings which is much more expensive. 8. They also promised to give me tool to prevent me from grinding my teeth at night but they now said they can only give it to me after the second half fillings are done. This doesn't make sense at all! I went to this dentistry because it has really good Google map reviews and is close to my apartment. I even recommended them to my friends living nearby. There is actually a big UT Asian student community/social media group in my neighborhood which I am a part of. But after the second visit, I am completely disappointed by their lack of honesty and money-grubbing attitude towards a UT student. Now that I think about it, they probably bought most of the Google reviews, since they had the money to buy Google ads. It's impossible that they have all 5 stars. read more

I have seen her multiple times for both preventative as well as restorative work and am 100% pleased with the results from both. My profession consists of a great percentage of public speaking, so image and appearance are essential to my success. Can you smell/spell M A L P R A C T I C E ? I did with this dentist, who I "inherited" when my former dentist (Dr. Mendez) had to retire early from a back injury (Dr. Truong moved here to Austin and purchased his practice, so I decided to give her a try at the same dental office). I have not had a single cavity in my teeth since I was a teenager (~40 years) and Dr. Mendez never found any in all the years that he examined my teeth. In marches Dr. Truong who looks at my x-rays and teeth and immediately finds not 1 cavity but 7 (SEVEN) cavities, and wants to start drillin' and fillin' as soon as she could get my $$$.!! I decided NO, I want a second opinion, which I just received. New x-rays and exam with a different, honest dentist found NO cavities! That's ZERO. How did my supposed 7 (seven) cavities just disappeared or vanished suddenly!! Imagine if I would have let her drill and fill my healthy teeth. I wonder how many unsuspecting patients of hers have had something similar done wrongly to them? This feels like blatant malpractice, and she needs to be disciplined by the Texas Dental Board with fines and possibly her license revoked. Perhaps this is allowed in California, where she came from..... but we cannot allow her to do this in our community! read more

I appreciated her thoroughness and competence with the work I've had done. And very much appreciated her phone calls to make sure the work done that day went well and I was doing ok. I had been going to the previous dentist for years with 0-1 cavities each time. He had a couple "watch" spots and others he had written off as stains. After he was injured he gave his practice to Dr. Truong - who moved here from California. The first time I went to her she said I had 5 cavities. FIVE. I've never had 5 cavities at one time. I assumed she was just super thorough and was fixing the "watch" spots and the stains. The front desk told me they would submit it to insurance, but it would probably cost me $200. I agreed and came in at another appointment to fix them all. After my entire mouth was numbed up and they were in the middle of my first or second filling the receptionist bursts into my room and says it will actually cost me over $600 and they could stop now and not fix the rest if I didn't want to pay that much. Feeling helpless, I told them to fix my teeth. The next appointment (yes, I was dumb enough to go back) she told me I had 3 cavities and that one of the teeth had too much filling to hold more and she was going to need to put a crown on it. I told her I needed a second opinion. I went to another dentist who told me I had zero cavities. I haven't been back since. read more
