After a few conversations with the office manager Sara, they only take appointments if you pay close to 85% of your out of pocket cost for your procedure as a deposit and and pay the remainder once it is completed. She also stated that if your appointment is missed, they pocket the deposit completely. This is a little outrageous as copays at a specialty dentist such as this can get pricey. Despite what their patient forms on their own website say, Sara stated that this is a new policy and wouldn't take a $50 deposit for a new appointment. In the past I've had good experience with Parkside Dental Specialty. The doctor I saw then is gone. I can't comment on his replacement's treatment expertise, because my contact with him was limited to a deep cleaning. But my recent experience with their management structure has left me enraged. 1) An appointment, scheduled for mid-September, was rebooked for mid-October for some mysterious reason involving family health. 2) A few weeks later I got a call that the doctor had returned earlier than expected and I could be seen on Monday the next week. Yes! I reminded the caller that the doctor had agreed to prescribe a preliminary oral sedative and I wanted to be sure the prescription could be called in well ahead of time so I could pick it up at my convenience. 3) I called on Thursday and Friday before the appointment to remind them to call in that prescription. I got some gobbledegook excuse that the assistant had to check with the doctor, blah, blah. That made no sense. 4) On Monday morning, five hours before my appointment, I received a call telling me that if I agreed to a charge of $406, the doctor would call in the sedative prescription. I went nuts. $406 to call in a prescription? No way! The caller said there's a code for that and that it was covered by my (non-existent) insurance. When I asked to speak to the doctor, he immediately came on the line and waived the fee "this time." Then he told me "It's not just us. Every practice is charging this." Not true! IMO, that delay and fee was a total bait and switch! It's true that there is a code, and this charge may be legal, but it's far from ethical! No wonder healthcare costs are skyrocketing! 5) When I got to the pharmacy an hour later, they had not received a prescription. I called the office. It was CLOSED, due to a death or something, the message said. I was not notified of the cancellation. Four days later they finally called me to reschedule. By then I'd found a new periodontist. At least the office readily agreed to refund my $150 deposit. read more

I came to Dr. Lopez for my wisdom teeth removal. I was suuuuper nervous about the whole thing because I knew it would be a difficult operation from what other dentists had told me (small mouth, narrow jaw, heavily impacted, long roots). Even so, the staff that set me up were friendly and all of my prep scans went smoothly. Dr. Lopez herself talked me through how it would go and made sure I understood any risks. The operation itself was a breeze and the whole Parkside team was super helpful with any questions I had during the healing process! Hopefully I don't need dental surgery again, but it's good to know I have somewhere to go should the time come. P.S. Ease your anxieties before you go in to surgery, or else the sedatives may not fully put you to sleep. You'll still feel relaxed and numb to the pain, though! read more

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE with my wisdom teeth removal with Dr.Lopez. Pills given for procedure were a rip-off- didn't help at all with pain or anxiety. No gas offered on request. Dr. Lopez told me procedure would take 30 minutes and took 2 hours! Dr. Lopez had to stop twice to numb me and didn't wait for anesthetic to work even though she was pinching a nerve. I was crying from the pain. Dr. Lopez was extremely rough with me. Towards the end Dr. Lopez said she might leave a piece of my tooth in because she couldn't get it out. It was excruciating! I felt like I was pulling out my own tooth! Even worse Dr. Lopez had to correct her assistants. At one point her assistant dropped an instrument on the floor and just laughed. Total nightmare! After the procedure my cheek was swollen the size of a softball. She had to add a steroid to my prescription because of how badly swollen my face was from her procedure. Her receptionist didn't call in my prescription. Dr. Lopez insisted it was my fault for not requesting they call the pharmacy beforehand. Dr. Lopez ripped the Rx out of my driver's hand and said she'd call it in. We sat in traffic 30 minutes and once we arrived at Walgreen's Dr. Lopez never called in the prescription. I was in so much pain. Dr. Lopez and staff are unprofessional, rude, and overall insensitive. This place is not cheap or budget friendly and I paid cash so definitely look elsewhere. UPDATE: It's been 6 months since I had my wisdom teeth removed and my jaw still bothers me. I never had issues with it before. Avoid this place. read more

Dr. Shroyer is as good as it gets. I've worked with him, and had many patients see him for root canal therapy and everyone loves their experience. Dr. Shroyer is kind, patient, and caring. He has a policy of taking care of patients in pain. His day doesn't end at 5 pm: it ends when all of his patients are pain free. Though he is a little far south for me, I still refer patients to Dr. Shroyer. Even from North Austin, my patients feel that the calming experience, the attention to detail, and the willingness to see patients after hours makes it WELL worth the drive. read more

Just wow!!! I needed a root canal done on one of my teeth, and Dr Pallante just killed it!! I didn't feel a single thing, not a single bit of pain at all!! I've had fillings put in that hurt more than the process I went through for the root canal! I would highly recommend him, absolutely amazing! read more

Received a call about my upcoming appt to have my wisdom teeth removed. (This is 2:30pm on Friday for upcoming appt 8:30 Tuesday) Kristin with the front desk called to inform me my bill would be $1300 more than previously quoted due to a recent claim. I asked to reschedule for 2 weeks later (beginning of year) so my benefits could reset. She explained they could, but I would forfeit the $150 for canceling within 48 hours. I guess they'd rather make a quick $150, than retain the client and make the full amount for surgery 2 weeks later. I'll be taking my business elsewhere to someone that doesn't run their business like a chop shot. I would also note that I was asked to stay to have my 4 teeth removed (2 of which impacted) THE DAY OF my initial consult - they have plenty of availability. read more

Dr. Spencer was wonderful! Very knowledgeable and informative! I had a dentist tell me I needed many teeth treated for gum recession. Before shelling out that money, I decided to see a specialist. It was the recommendation of my son's regular dentist to utilize Parkside for his wisdom tooth abstraction. The Orthodontist, who seemed fairly knowledgable confirmed that my son did indeed need surgery, which was scheduled at the time of the appointment. However, when I called 24 hours before which is standard in most places to reschedule his surgery due to illness, (I have breast cancer) the Office manager, very rudely stated "she would only reschedule his appointment one time." And, that "I should have responded the day before when she sent a text confirmation." As I explained that I could not control illness, and had intended to attend to be there, I was cut off again. At which time the office manager stated she "would have to get insurance authorization again." I expressed my appreciation and closed the call. When approaching the second date of surgery, I called to speak to the Office Manager the Monday before his Wednesday appointment in an attempt to get some insight around calming his the nervous energy that he had around the surgery because he is on the Autism Spectrum. Once again this same individual cut me off, stating that if I canceled that she would not reschedule my son as well as cut him off as a patient. Without compassion or understanding of the situation that she did not fully listen to, she then stated that she fully intended to report me to insurance and that they would decide ti cut off my son's Dental Insurance if I cancel the appointment. Regardless, of the gentle and comprehensive care my son may have potentially received from the Orthodontic specialist at Parkside Dental, the frontline is the Office Manager and the staff. This Office Manager was so degrading and rude, not just one, but twice. She lacked compassion and professionalism. She also, stereotyped my families financial capabilities by referring to his Texas Medicaid (which he receives because he is adopted) by threatening to have it cut off. As if we are milking the system. I canceled this appointment because I lost trust in Parkside Dental to care for my minor son who is on the spectrum. read more

We arrived there at 11:30 am It was a little early so Mary fill out the paper work that has to be done, so after Mary fill the paper work out we went across the street to the mall to walk around to burn up some time, then we went back so Mary can have her Consultation with Oral Surgeon, Mary told her what was going on with her teeth that my dentist referred me to you. to have one of my Wisdom teeth and one tooth to be extraction.She asked Mary dose you Wisdom Tooth Hurt, Mary stated to her " NO " The Oral Surgeon Stated to Mary That I'am Not going to cut It out. That old saying Is If It Is Not Broken Don't Fix's Is. The Mary asked her what about my other tooth she stated that she will not do a Extraction of my other tooth is due to the fact of the Medications that you are on, Mary take's these Med's for the Issues she has. to keep her com. She Still would not pull It. She wanted to send Mary to San Antonio to the Dental School to have a Dental student pull the tooth out . Unfortunately, I was recently diagnosed with a fractured molar that was not restorable and needed extraction. Dr. Patricia Lopez (a board certified Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon who is in private practice at Parkside Dental in Austin as well as an adjunct professor at UT Dental School in San Antonio, Texas) was able to accomplish this extraction without any pain during the procedure! None. She was very gentle with injections while getting this molar area amazingly numb! The brittle roots made this a very difficult and time consuming extraction, which definitely took a very skilled and experienced surgeon to be able to retrieve all the pieces of the roots, prior to then placing a bone graft and a healing membrane to preserve the bone for future implant, while then skillfully suturing the gum fully over the extraction site to retain and protect the graft as well as limit post op bleeding and oozing. By the way, she had two very skilled and pleasant dental assistants working attentively at her side, who were also extremely caring toward me, asking how I was doing and placing lip balm during the procedure, protecting my lips and tongue. I carefully followed Dr. Lopez's post op instructions, especially using the ice pack which allowed for minimal swelling and thus very little pain and faster recovery. She gave me a phone call to check up on my recovery the next day and I was happy to report doing very well. If I had gone to a general dentist to attempt the extraction this would have been a disaster. If you need an extraction, or other oral surgery procedure, difficult or otherwise, I personally highly recommend Dr. Patricia Lopez. Thank you very much Dr. Lopez!! read more

I was referred to this office by my dentist. The office staff is very unprofessional. I was told I'd be called back several times to get the estimate of what I needed to pay and I never got a call. I had to call them back to get the information and was put on hold for quite some time. I just hung up. Then during my examination I had to ask the dental assistant if the tools she was using were 1x use because I didn['t see her open it like most dentist office people do. The dentist gave me antibiotic prescription even though she didn't see a sign of infection and couldn't locate anything on my x-rays. I asked for a topical pain reliever for my ache and I was told I couldn't be given anything. You'd think if you went in with a complaint of pain after they pick and knock on your teeth with metal they'd offer at least orajel. I wont be going back. read more

A few years ago I had a horrible experience at a dentist office which delayed my return to any of them for some time. This delay led to my first dreaded root canal. I was in the most pain I've ever experienced and was terrified. Sara in the front office was amazing and answered all of my questions- even when they were redundant. She never made me feel silly for asking so many or for being nervous. I was offered the nitrous gas and it was very reasonably priced even though it was optional and not a necessity. Dr. Shroyer and his assistant were kind and understanding. They explained everything beforehand and also as they were going. After about 10 minutes, I was so comfortable that I actually fell asleep! My only regret is that I didn't think to take ear buds for music. They even called me the next day to make sure I was still doing alright. Highly recommend this office for any endodontic work.
