I took in 5 pairs to have work done to them. When I picked them up he said he "tried his best" which to me was not the best of signs. I am trying to be as fair as possible when it comes to the review because this is a small business and seems like only one or two people are doing this work. 1. Thursday Boots Presidents- Was quoted for taps, the shoe had prexisting ones built into the sole. The taps were placed crooked on both shoes. If the taps underneath weren't level, I would think he would try to shave those down before nailing in a new tap if that was the issue. Obviously not a cobbler, but I would have reached out to the customer to confirm before proceeding with the work. The shining was not done on the tongue of the shoe on either boot. 2. Thursday Boots Chelsea boot- The shoe shining is arguably the best part of my experience with them. 3. Common Projects Oxfords- The Shoe Shining is great here again, but the heel reconstruction is not clean or that seamless, so it makes it look like a cheaper pair of shoes than when I brought them in. 4. Saint Laurent Chelsea Boots- Heel was completely replaced and looks seamless, the front part of the shoe was agreed to have a new piece of leather put on the bottom but it was like a plastic bottom and it says "sport" on it. So it makes the shoes again look cheaper than when I brought them in. I would recommend asking upfront when getting the quote exactly what would be used before confirming the job. This was my first experience with a cobbler so my presumption is that they would try to colormatch and use as close material as possible to keep the authenticity of the shoe. (Also this was the most expensive pair of all of these shoes and also the most expensive pair quoted for repair) 5. Vintage Mary Janes - He told me he was going to remove the entire bottom part of the sole and put another one. When I picked them up, it was just the old one reglued. P.S Also he writes the quotes on the soles of the shoes or where he will be doing the work, so if that bothers you bring it up before he starts marking it! He left all my shoes with those markings. Open Monday-Saturday till 6pm. Average pricing on services. I got rubber taps put in and asked for a bit of a stretch on my boots and was able to pick up a couple of days later. Not many shoe repair shops in Bay Ridge or anywhere for that. Good to have this one here. read more

I went in like most NYer's do, skeptical. Thinking that this guy might be gruff and difficult. Once again I was wrong, and the true New Yorker's revealed themselves. I just needed a watch battery changed, but this guy seemed to have a lot of irons in the fire. Shoe's, key's, purse repair, etc. etc. Maybe that's the beauty of it. He's a multi-talented guy. After being patient, he got to me, to change the battery and did it in 5 minutes, for $8. Less than my regular jeweler who was closed. The thing about this nice man, was that he put me at ease, and told me I did a good thing, by preserving the watch screws in a small case, which made it easy for him to return the back firmly. I went in skeptical and left a friend. You can't get any better customer service than that. Overall, just a nice family business that I wouldn't hesitate to recommend. Thank you. read more

I wish I lived closer. If I did, I would probably stop by even if I didn't have shoes to fix. These guys are the best--warm and kind--and do such a wonderful job. I took in a pair of shoes that were rather sad looking but are the only shoes I own that don't kill my feet. I felt pretty embarrassed by them in fact, but Sami(?) passed no judgement and did his best to make them them look like new. The gentlemen who work here are so courteous and friendly! I came in to have my boots re-soled which would have cost $55 but they offered to simply fix the heels for $15. When I picked up my boots a few days later they were as good as new! Excellent service. I'll most certainly be back. read more

The worst place to repair your shore. Owner have no idea what he is doing, pretends he didn't speak English and very rude. I had expensive pair of shoes and asked him to put protection on the bottom, instead he spray painted for no reason front and back and left glue marks on brand new shoes and charged me $40. Then on top of it, he asked me to give them 5 stars for $5 off the service. I do not recommend this place. read more

I took a pair of shoes in for complete resoling. The friendly cobbler explained exactly what he could and couldn't do in terms of matching what the shoes had been manufactured with. I am wearing the shoes now, and recognize that the soles are better than when the shoes were new. I'll be bringing in other pairs. read more

Same thing happenec with a pair of all red suede DelToro shoes. Black scuff marks from being stepped on dirt etc I bring them here and the come back immaculate. Really disappointed in Sam's attitude. I've been going to this shoe repair shop for 20 years, giving him all of my leather-goods business, happy to refer friends and family - with my highest recommendation. The prices were certainly on the high end, but the quality was always very good, so I figured I was getting what I was paying for. Well, not any more. The other day, I picked up two pairs of shoes. Minor work was needed, for which he charged an outrageous price, as in: at least 2x what others would charge. Curious, I asked him about the market-busting prices, and he suggested, in a dissatisfied and condescending tone, that I might look around the neighborhood for other shoe-repair shops to visit. Well - as much as I don't want to let what used to be a good thing go - I think I'll do just that. Sam is a consummate self-promoter; he likes to tell customers "100 000 mile guarantee!" when they pick up their shoes. Now, a little exaggeration doesn't hurt where marketing is concerned, but you can't just exaggerate your prices to 2x-plus of the market, and then scatter your customers to the wind when they ask 'Why?' When the owner of a business stops appreciating his clients, it's the beginning of the end - and declining quality can't be far behind. Too bad. Too, too bad. read more
