As a professional driver who lives within two miles of this Sam's; I have been dealing with for several years. They just DON'T CARE. We've been here a several times since summer. They have a few items that we like that they only carry, so hit it up every 6 to 8 weeks on average. Of course we end up with a full cart, even if we intended to only get a few items. I am not a fan of their fruits and vegetables, as they always seem to perish sooner than expected. The staples, dairy and meats/poultry are good though. We have never experienced rude customer service as so many of these reviews state. I'm not sure if it is lucky timing on our part, or if some of these reviewers are thin skinned. Besides, I don't shop here to make friends with the employees. Who knows? I don't know what people expect from a warehouse store, but I/we find it OK (3 stars) and will return as needed. read more

Got gas today at Sam's 1/7 @3.00 gallon in Lakeland . We found nice hoodies on sale over the holidays . Today was packed there full of crying children , not a good day; hard to manner the isles . We got in and got out . Not happy we went before new years and got a fish dip and went to open it and it had a mold spot on the top; I plan to return it . If I were to teach a class in Customer Service, as I have done several times in the past, I would dedicate an entire session to "What not to do in customer service". I would use Sam's Club in South Lakeland as a case study. Their inventory control is appalling. I tried for smoked salmon twice in the same week and zilch. Here was a recent tweet of mine: "A customer comes into your store and you're out of their favorite item. Poor customer service: "Come back tomorrow." Good customer service. "Here's our direct number. Call ahead." Great customer service. "Let me get you contact information and we will let you know when your item is in stock." Don't expect good or great customer service from Sam's Club. And don't expect to be treated with dignity. Last Thursday evening, I had to wait in line close to a half-hour because the brilliant store management decided to have only one cashier on duty. I got so PO'd that I texted a good friend who is a Walmart Shareholder. Walmart owns Sam's club. So, why do I keep going back to Sam's Club? I have a membership, a membership that will expire in a couple of months. Will I renew that membership? Yes, but only after Key West gets a foot of snow; only after frogs fly; only after the ghost of Elvis Presley hosts the Oscars. You get the point. Costco, here I come! read more

I was a member years ago when Sam's Club was for businesses first then individual shoppers. We belonged to another club but Sam's Club made an offer for joining we could not refuse. When we went there we were presently surprised. They were huge and had everything you could want. One negative comment though. We are an older couple and there were so many good things to buy that we wanted but we didn't buy them. One had to buy a huge amount in every package. We won't be alive before we finish it. Make the packages smaller and we'll buy more. Only negative comment. read more

I like shopping at the 98 north Sam's. I get great service, polite workers that have gone out of their way to help. They have a great selection of products and I buy bulk, even though there are only two of us. I am a plus member and I enjoy the free shipping or delivery if I shop online. From the moment you walk in, to the moment your shopping is checked at the door, not a single friendly employee anywhere. We returned an item, that we purchased yesterday and the lady at the service desk was just rude. We got a Berry-Sundae before we left and got the same unfriendly treatment. Having said that, the icecream was great... It seems that people get a bonus to be unfriendly. Should this be the case, every one that we interacted with deserved their "treat our customers badly, bonus". Costco is simply in a different league. Costcos products are generally of higher quality, pricing is mostly better and friendliness and customer service at Costco is always fantastic. A really good thing at Sams Club is the "scan and go" function of the app. It works great and yes, it avoids interacting with the miserable staff members.. We have a free annual membership (buy and receive a voucher for the same amount), but won't renew it, just because of the rude Sam's Club staff. read more

My father is 94 and considers Sam's Club to be an exciting trip so he was enthused when I agreed to take him to the north Lakeland store instead of our usual at the southside. We do rely on the handicapped scooters (for dad, not me) but I was dismayed to find the first one I came across made it all of about 3 feet before dying. Turns out it was never plugged in and the reason I found it so easily is because that is where it had died the day before and nobody bothered moving it. When I queried about others, I was directly to an out-of-the-way area where 3 other sat. Cutting to the chase, 1 died halfway through the store and the second one almost made it back to the car. Geez, guys, plug them in nightly! That's bad enough, but it appears stocking is done on a random basis and not at night. We got there at 7:30 a.m. (business card holder) so they had been open just 30 minutes. What did I find? No much, that's what. No lettuce packs in sight and one pack of tomatoes I inspected had a rotten one right in the middle that had leaked to the packages below. How about a bakery that was curiously light on bakery items (buns, bread, etc)? In fact, the store seemed to be in disarray as if they had a party the night before. We left before the final cart died and went back to the south location. read more

Like another review says, the guys that are supposed to help at the self serve checkout and exit aren't friendly. That part doesn't bother me but they are usually just talking to a coworker or just lost in space when you need help checking out. Tried for 2 days to get warranty work for tires or even speak to someone in that department. I spoke to manager, Debbie, numerous times for 2 days. So far I've been relying on groceries with sams since the pandemic. I have the plus membership and though it's expensive it definitely pays for itself with free shipping to my home. I enjoy using the app to do curbside or ship to home orders. When I've talked to staff members for assistance they're always helpful and courteous. My only complaint that is that they tend to have expired foods on the shelves. I've had to return chicken salad immediately after doing an in club pick up. And also when I lived in Houston I saw in the store expired refrigerated items which is a health and safety concern. Customer service does not exist at this Sam's. I don't care "how busy you are" you must answer the phone in every department when a club member calls. Moreover, the Customer Service desk should always answer the phone. I've been calling all afternoon, no less than 6 times between 3:30 and 7:00. Always ended up transferring to the Customer Service desk with long wait until I ended the call without speaking to anyone. The best part of this experience is the kind lady in the liquor store who was always happy to answer my call and transfer me to Customer Service. Poor, poor, poor member services. The store manager needs to go back to managing shelve restocking, not an entire retail facility like Sam's. read more

Is it bad I sometimes go here just to get a pretzel? The little quick service food is great. I love that I can get a huge pretzel+drink for under $4.00. The store itself is your standard Sam's club. My least favorite Sam's club. Gas lines are always long. The fresh produce doesn't seem as fresh anymore. The list goes on.

The lines to get gas here are always chaotic no matter what. There's no enforcement on entry so everyone enters whichever way they feel leading to backups. Terrible low grade gas in the premium reserve. I filled up, started my car, drove off and it started sputtering. Drove to the light and it cut out. My car is only 1 year old and has never done that filling up at any other gas station. Will never go there for gas again. read more

I go here because I can't get items that they have here in Lakeland. My store in Wesley Chapel doesn't have the same things. Anyway this manager is running a scam I believe. When I went in there one day recently, in July, I showed my business membership and was told I would have to purchase a Plus Membership for 100.00 to be able to get in early. They were no longer going to allow business members in early. I pay 45.00 for a business membership and they want to more than double my cost. This is a scam. I waited a couple weeks to see if I would get an email from Sam's Company and nothing. I have been to my store and nothing, I still get in early with my business membership. I honestly can't say enough about the employee that assisted us with the membership process to Sam's Club. We were taken back at first because the associates did not seem too friendly and it was obvious they wanted to just leave for the night. We were greeted in a somewhat non personable way at first, but things altered once we started talking to the associate and found commonality with her. We spoke about prior military service and the services offered by Sam's Club. She ended up providing me with a $15 gift card for my service and also recognized me for my service and commented on a status listed on my VA card. It was nice to see someone educated in the military statuses and so forth. I only downgraded the store because the options located online were not available in the store and that was one of the primary reasons I came to the store to purchase a product for my Father. I went online to purchase it, but had to mail it to his house. It just would have been nice to have the product in the store, but I understand supply and demand. I'm disappointed in how customer service is implemented at sams club! I was in line like anyone else opening a new business account and the "champion manager" (genesis), takes over the computer another associate was assisting me with with my application. When I ask is this how you represent sams club? Customer service, Genesis turns to the associate and asks why did you move over? However, the associate didn't move over she step aside to get me a credit card application to continue assisting me with my new member activation. I'm disappointed and disgusted with (champion manager) genesis and her attitude, if I can give her a zero I would. She didn't even apologize, she gave me a dirty look for looking at her name tag!! read more

I'm writing this review as a Heads Up for new members. Now that gas prices are steeply on the rise, we calculated that a membership would pay for itself in 3-4 months. We went online, completed the application and paid with a credit card. Then we began to wait for the card to arrive in the mail. We waited a week, all the while watching gas prices jump daily. I finally called the Service Desk at the North Lakeland store and was told I'm supposed to pick up the card at the Service Desk. I had no way to know that. Although they have my email, I didn't get a Welcome email telling me how to get my card. Although they have my phone number, I didn't get a text to welcome me as a new member and explain how to get my card. They had my money and that seemed to be the extent of our interaction. I certainly hope we don't regret this membership. If so, it will be the one and only time we buy it. read more

I'm outraged to know that Sams employees are not allow to announce that is close to closing time bc customers complain that they felt rush when announcement was made. Sams Club is is great I just wish they would improve phone communications, when you call your local store there is no photo department option to choose from just 0 for customer service. When you press 0 and wait 30 to 40 rings and a person finally answers, you ask for the photo department and then have to wait again only to be bumped back to customer service and then it becomes an endless loop. I understand that the store may be busy at certain times during the day but my experience is always this way no matter what time of day I call. Hope someone up there in quality control runs into this message and brings this up at a meeting. read more

This SAMS Club has been great so far. I haven't come in contact with one rude associate, everyone seems to understand the idea of genuine customer service. I have had to wait at the customer service desk once or twice and not been acknowledged but I won't trip because I usually never have to deal with them. I order my pick-ups off my app and they are always there and ready for a speedy shopping experience. I have't really had to wait on line because i order from the app, but they can get long. For the most part, this place is great! ALSO, the gas attendants are usually really nice as well! read more

This store has the most pathetic customer service I have ever experienced. To make it even more insulting, we paid (note: past tense) over $150 annually for a business Plus membership. If it were a one or two time event, I would chalk it up as a bad day, but this store has actually been getting much worse over many years. On my final visit I waited 23 minutes just to get to the desk with only 1 person ahead of me already being attended to. Behind me, lined up 6 more angry customers, all of which agreed Sam's has degraded to a sliver of its former glory. They will refuse to refund bad produce, flowers, defective merchandise, etc. and all the while, endure the most arrogant, apathetic, management imaginable. I guess people with actual GOOD manager related skills, go to work for COSTCO. It's another 35 minute drive to their nearest location from Lakeland, but it is so worth it. read more

I like buying large size household products and produce at this location, BUT this location is lacking in customer service skills. It shows especially when it comes to reaching someone on the phone to avoid having to stop in to get a simple question answered. You get put on hold for 5+ minutes and there is no hold music so you think that they just hung up on you. I've called twice today 7/22/15 and had to hang up since I was on hold so long. Another thing is take a picture of your receipts because those thermal paper receipts don't last long, they fade and can get distorted quickly and they don't keep any information in their computers for more than 6 months. So when you have a warranty issue for lets say a battery or a tire, your SOL. Again it's alright to shop there but customer service stinks! read more
