This is still one of my favorite Sam's Clubs to shop in. They keep it neater than the Austin stores, and the staff are genuinely glad to help. As a bonus, the cafe is online, so you can order food items ahead and skip the ordering line. I like that they have UT and Texas State clothing items in the fall. Yesterday was a Longhorn purchase, but note that it's hard to find Texas State logo-wear at a discount other than here and maybe on clearance at Academy. Top that off with discounted gas at the pumps and a a swirl yogurt cup, and this is one of three places during my San Marcos trip yesterday that made me happy. read more

I love Sam's club and have been a member for over 25 years but they need to update their hours on their website.it's stills says 7 am and not 8 am as we were told when we arrived at 7:00 am! And the workers are not nice when they tell you either. We still enjoy the selection especially the ability to scan and go and have our receipt emailed to us. So I had my tire rotation appointment set up at 9:00 AM and apparently us regular members are not allowed in the building whatsoever and I explain to him that I had an appointment to change my tires at this time and he questions at this time this early and he the associate at the front door, decided to tell me that he's gonna have to have me cancel my appointment. I don't feel that he was in charge at this time to tell me what to do with my appointment first of all and if it was a valid appointment why wouldn't he just let me go directly to the tire shop to get my tires this one time situated. I did speak to the manager and she sent more empathetic to my situation, but suggested that I would become a prime membership. No thank you I go to Costco before that. read more

Extremely Poor customer service when it comes to helping a DIESEL customer. Store manager Denise did not care to help a loyal long time Sam's club member when HER employee Christian shut off the fuel pump on us when we backed in on the other side to fill up our diesel truck because there was a bunch of gas vehicles blocking ONLY the Diesel pumps. Store manager Denise's response with agreeing with her employee was that " someone might get run over by backing in..." Never have I been treated with such disrespect by SAM's Club employee. We travel all over using our membership card and never had problem with backing into a pump BEFORE TODAY! SAM's Club really needs to become more DIESEL CUSTOMER FRIENDLY. Yet another fall from grace for this Sam's Club location. The back story tells a tale of some wardrobe updates for Ol' Rooster. New shorts and some carefully selected shirts ranging from Harley Davidson apparel, Lucky 13, Von Dutch, and Xtreme Couture. Yes, yes, that's Randy Couture's brand made by Affliction. I'm inclined to point out that I am not a douchebag; how could you say no when his shirts at my Sam's Club were $6.50? Some of the shirts were decent apparel especially for the price; then they didn't have my size anymore. Despite my recollections in dealing with the San Marcos store I called to see if they carried the same shirts. They confirmed they also had the same clothes and a ton of them. Sweet! I threw the little in the car this morning and drove close to 1 hour ready to pull the trigger on some skulls and crosses, with wings, some barley legible writing, and gargoyles on a shirt. We arrived and strolled around looking at an array of things before finally making it over to the clothing. They had them all; and in my size! Huh, $14.95 each? What tha? I eventually talked with the manager on duty who politely told me that there was no way in hell that he would sell them for that price. Buy one get one free? Any deal? He offered them to me at his cost which was $12 and change; no sale man! He also stated that the South Austin Sam's was selling them 52% below cost; which I confirmed by a phone call that the shirts had actually dropped to $5 each and he still wouldn't budge on his prices. I left empty handed. The manager was polite; but not a tad sympathetic. No I'm sorry you drove all the way over here to get shafted on the price. Imagining that I was on the other end of this as I also work in retail, I would have sold the shirts to the customer at the $6.50 price. Worst customer service ever! I tried to return a trampoline after surprisingly finding the same one at Walmart for $70 less. We had purchased it only 4 days earlier. Christina assured me it had not been bought on my card. Definitely not in December she said in a belittling voice. She said without a paper receipt she could only give me store credit. I called my daughter, who was in a class, to please bring me the receipt. I sat, feeling invisible, with the trampoline for over an hour. Finally, I stopped a man who looked like a manager. I was in tears. He found the purchase on the computer and gave me cash. He apologized. She was so mean! I'm forever done with Sam's. Costco has the best customer service and return policy. It's the closest Sam's club to Wimberley so this is where we shop when in need of anything in bulk. You know the best selling items in Big Box stores are the paper goods and they place them at the furthest location in the store from the front door so you have to pass many many displays of products to get to the paper goods...I guess in theory his works as I rarely walk out with only the items on my list. My favorite things to buy here: Bounty Paper Towels - 1/2 Sheets Charmin Toilet Paper - Double Ply Supremo Bird Seed - Best Bird seed ever. We come all the way to Sams to buy this seed. It weighs 40 lbs for $19.97 and has a high concentration of black sun flower seeds, bird seed and includes peanuts. We have tried all different brands and nothing attracts birds like this seed. I will say that I really like that Sam's offers self-checkout. When my Dad was alive we bought his hearing aid batteries from the in store Hearing Aid store. Daddy also liked their Pizza so this was always a must when I shopped with him Overall most employees are friendly and helpful. read more

I got a Battery on 11/23/21 and it is bad! Sam's Club will NOT honor the 3 year warranty, I will never buy another Battery from Sam's Club again. This is a decent Costco competitor. I moved next to one recently and started shopping here over Costco because it is much closer and gas prices are insane. Sams 's Club quality and selection of products are not as excellent as Costco, but it has made some significant improvements over the past year. I fill my fuel tank once a week, and the saving is better than most of the fuel stations around me. Although I still feel like I get better prices at Costco. read more

The auto dept at Sams does headlight service that helps restore the appearance of the headlights. My old vehicle has nearly 200k miles on it and the lights have seen better days! No complaints at all about this club. I'm here several times a month for gas, groceries, office supplies and the occasional slice of pizza. The folks are friendly, returns are easy. The tire and battery guys go above and beyond. The pizza rocks. The prices are good on most things, great on some, and not really a bargain on others. It's always good to shop around, but Sam's is rarely not in the mix for best pricing. I have a tough time feeling sorry for people shopping for "high fashion" here. I would have thought people would know better, but from some of the other reviews, they apparently don't. If you find something you like and they don't have your size, that means you found it too late. It's on you to get it while it's there. It's the nature of the beast, folks. This is how they offer the prices you want to pay. Also, the Scan & Go app gets me in and out without ever waiting in line. Awesome! read more

I came to the store and needed to speak with a tire and battery employee. I was directed through the exit door to the tire and battery center. No employees were there so the end purchase scanner employees at the door stated I need to get on Sam's WiFi and scan the QR code for assistance. Nope. Not getting on your unsecured WiFi to jump through your hoops to get assistance. How about you do your job and get someone over here?? Augustine (employee) comes up. I express what I needed. He barely makes eye contact. Calls for a manager. Clarissa (manager) comes up. BUT she doesn't help me. She doesn't help ME, the member who's been waiting several minutes already, and instead chooses to help the woman in line BEHIND me, who she saw JUST WALK UP. She chooses to help the woman behind me who attempted to leave the store with items she didn't pay for. She chooses not to help the person who already paid for all of her items truthfully. Augustine never once spoke up to say I was there first. Clarissa didn't say a word nor even look at me. I felt I was 100% racially profiled. I was in line FIRST. But my ethnicity didn't match hers, Augustine's and the person behind me. When she was done with that customer, Augustine let Clarissa walk away EVEN THOUGH he knew he had to have her there to assist me. So, I waited several more minutes AGAIN for her to come back. Again, she didn't acknowledge me in ANY way. I have never seen a more pathetic display of "customer service" in my life. Without members shopping there, Clarissa and Augustine wouldn't even have this job (which they CLEARLY do NOT deserve). I would not tolerate this behavior as a business owner, and would be mortified if these were my children due to their utter lack of respect for others. Clarissa has an awful lot of a sense of entitlement. Her job is to serve others. She is absolutely in the wrong field. My skin color shouldn't have mattered, but she clearly chose to assist someone with her same ethnicity, regardless of first come first serve. Many things went wrong this trip, but if this is how management runs this business, I can see why. Drive to another location. I have been a member of Sam's Club for 20 years and have shopped all over the US in their stores. I would have place the San Marcos store in the upper 1/3 of those visited until a few days ago. I purchased to paper back books along with $70.00 of other merchandise. On reaching the exit checkout it was determined that I was charged incorrectly to the books. one was $5.99, the other $10.99. But the people checking your card has them for their personal use, not for costumers. They have Lysol for the cash registers also, but not to buy. How convenient they have them for their use but not for us. I drove from Buda to go to San Marcos SAM'S CLUB before I drove there I called them and I let them know that I was on my way and they said that they would have someone there to help me with the photos but when arriving at 12:20 PM. there was nobody at the photo center so I spoke to KJ in the optical. She let me know that Chris, was the one that was suppose to be attending that station. KJ called him over the intercom three times, afterwards KJ walked over to management questioning where he was so he could help in photos, (other people were waiting as well) KJ explained to me that Chris was the only one working that day that could only do the photos so I waited 30 minutes. Another staff member walked over to the optical and KJ explained to her if there was any one else that new how to work the photos, the lady said "no not my problem" looked at herself in the mirror and walked away. KJ continued to apologize for other employees. A girl come to the photo center so i walked over and was next in line and instead of trying to help me she asked me if i could step to the side so she could help the lady in back of me since she was just picking up photos! RUDE!! Finally a guy named Graham came over he didn't even acknowledge me I had to speak up and let him know what I wanted. I needed to make 5-photo copies (12 x 18) he could not find the 12 x 18 poster options that I needed. I was already annoyed because everyone at the photo center were so passive aggressive and felt that i was a bother to them!!! I've been a Costco member for almost 10 years, having lived in San Diego where there was only one Sam's Club in my area and it was 30 minutes away. I loved Costco! Since moving to San Marcos, and within walking distance to Sam's Club, I found it was a no-brainer to get a membership instead of driving 25 miles to the nearest Costco. While the overall layout and bulk purchase outlook are the same, there are noticable differences. The Sam's Club staff never seem to be as upbeat as the Costco staff and the organic selection isn't as good. What really set things apart was at checkout yesterday. It was raining this past Saturday and I had purchased several smaller, individual items. I asked the younger male cashier if they had any boxes. He looked at the empty bin and said, "I guess not..." He never made eye contact. He just kept ringing me up. I informed him that I had to carry all of this up, in the rain, across my complex parking lot, so I walked to the next three registers and each bin was empty. As I walked back up, he continued to show no interest in helping me. I lost my patience and looked him in the eyes, and told him to cancel my purchase, that I had no interest in buying from a place that couldn't assist with something as simple as retreiving some boxes. The moment you walk to a register at Costco with anything more than a handful, the very next thing they ask after asking for your membership card is if you want your items boxed. IT'S THAT SIMPLE!!! Sam's Club, you need to get with it or lose a customer. ______________________ Update: On Sunday, I was in the area and decided to stop by Costco the day after this happened and, as expected, everything went perfect. Such friendly, pleasant people, too. On the way home, I had to stop back at my local Sam's Club to get some produce. Again, no boxes were available. I'm generally a fan of this Sam's. It's convenient to us and they sell organic spinach in good-sized bins, a plus in our house because we really mow through that stuff. But recently, we were upsold on some kind of "Plus" membership enhancement that costs an extra $60 a year. Our pro-rated rate was $12 (to cover the time left before our membership renewal was due), so we gave it a try. The idea of this program is that you are presented with weekly discounts and coupons that are geared toward the very things you buy frequently. We were told we could cancel and get a refund for that fee, no questions asked, if the program wasn't for us. The cashier made it sound so easy. Well, over the course of a month, nothing relevant appeared in the coupon list. On top of that, the list didn't seem to change as the weeks progress. Time to cancel. Total Woman tried to end this little bonanza, but Sam's told her they needed me present with her, because we share a membership. So the other day, we headed into the service desk to cancel this little rip-off fiesta. I'd normally give Sam's four stars, but they've lost one, because Amber, the manager who handled our cancellation, kept trying to sell us on this program. The more we explained why it's not working for us, the more she tried to keep us on board. She'd say things like, "Do you understand the benefits of the program?" Oh, Amber, you need to return to your Sam's Club Re-education Camp for further training, if you think that's how you're going to turn us around on this thing. We stood there debating with her for 10 long minutes until we finally said, "Look, we just want to cancel this. Let's not talk about it anymore." Sam's usually earns points in our book because it opens at 7 am for business account holders, carries some decent stuff, and once allowed us to return an LCD TV when it started malfunctioning after owning it for more than a year. My recent experience deserves to be shared. I visit this location maybe once a month. I do not have a large family, I simply go there to buy a month worth of snacks and an occasional seasonal item. I never spend less than a hundred bucks, wine! I love the optical center friendliest crew. I enjoy the snack center- very nice staff. I definitely like the no pressure "try this" venders. However, every time I leave I have to wait in a long line while the receipt reader is busy chit chatting with the ID' greeter. Today was my last straw. I was in a line 5-6 people deep line while Joann W.A.T.T.S. (She spelled it out for us) was holding a receipt with her highlighter ignoring everyone but some random lady talking about last week sales and what she had spent her day doing. I go around and walk past Joann who immediately tries to stop me and grabs my receipt. I tell her she can look all over it but I was leaving and she could talk later! She threw the receipt at me and told me to "blow it out your you-know-what" and then proceeded to highlight receipts without looking at them. A manager was involved at which time Joann said I wasn't a member and spelt her name for me. Bizarre. I will not be going back to this location. read more

Surprised by how much drama one Sam's Club could cause, in reading the other reviews, I decided to join the fray and scope out this location. If you've never been to Sam's, they mostly sell bulk bundles of name-brand products and generics. This location's selection is a bit limited, however, because, relatively speaking, this Club is smaller than most. This is a problem if you are a particularly health conscious individual, as 5-lbs bags of Fruit Loops and other high fructose corn syrup + hydrogenated oil + high sodium popular favorites alone are not going to be worth your visit. And, if you're a vegetarian, forget about it, unless you figure you can make back the price of a membership in flatscreen TVs and toilet paper. However, the auto service here (as Ardie S. pointed out) is worth stopping in for. I had my tires rotated and balanced for next to nothing here and the service was fast (finished in under an hour with 3 people ahead of me) and friendly. I love Sam's and all the friendly people working there. I have never had a problem with anyone. When I ask for help they seem to go out of there way to search for the item I'm lookin for. Both my wife and I get our meds at Sam's in San Marcos because we save money. The ladies and guys working in the pharmacy pretty much all of them, know our names. This means a lot to people and is good for business. I am heading to Sam's today and see about getting me some hearing aids. Brian in the cafe is more than rude and aggressive. As a 10 yr member I have never been treated so poorly. There was no one in line. I've never been to this location. I guess I went in the line the wrong way. I let another customer go ahead of me. Brian became out of the back and told me I went in the wrong way. I said ok. As another customer came I told him I'll just let them know I was here first, no problem. I placed my order and then he came back and took the next person's order. I asked him why he couldn't just take my order and not educate me about the line. He started screaming at me "I don't care how long you've been a member" He even took his mask down so he could scream louder. Then I had conversation regarding my experience with Brian with 2 "managers". Trey we're no help. Just nodding and one of them was standing super close to me making me feel intimidated. I put in an order online to pick up in club got my email ready for pick up. drove to san marcos to get it. when I got to the store as told by app and email, I checked in using the app. after waiting 10 minutes I asked my daughter to talk to the door lady and get us a manager. after waiting another 10 minutes and even another customer commenting on me waiting so long, I started talking a little load. Finally got someone over, not a manager. He informed the sams club san marcos does not support in-app check in, why then is that option there. the young man started looking for my paper work. (it wasn't even in the computer for easy look up). I finally got my order. approx. wait time 30 min. Totally pathetic. As many employees saw me standing there waiting and obviously getting upset. The BF and I have been kicking around the idea of joining Sam's Club for a while. What with the downshift in the economy and our financial status, we've been doing a lot of things to save money here and there. Our grocery bills are already pretty minimal, but the idea of buying things in bulk for cheap seemed like another good way to stretch out every possible penny. For the uninitiated, Sam's Club appears to sell freaking everything. Electronics, school supplies, clothes, and groceries were all on display in vast quantities. They do "card" you at the door to verify you are a member. That is where we ran into our first problem. The lady who "carded" us was kind of snotty about it. "Oh, you're not a member? Well, you can't buy anything off the floor, then. You can eat at the cafe, but you can't buy anything else." It wasn't so much what she said as the way she said it. We told her we were just checking the place out, and she gave us a look like we were casing her house to rob it. Seriously? Do we need a chaperon to check out the store or something? What is the etiquette here? Her attitude definitely dinged a star off of what would have been a pretty neutral 3-star review. Once past the door, we went straight for the groceries as that would be our primary use for a membership. The grocery section was not as expansive as I thought it would be, and there was a definite feel of quantity over quality. I was surprised by how limited the selection of food stuffs was, and how most of the brands they peddle are the super cheapo brands. In retrospect I'm not sure what I was expecting. This place is owned by Walmart, after all. There were some great deals on bulk ingredient items like pinto beans and rice, but they only appeared to carry white rice, not brown. Standing in that aisle made me feel like we were preparing to go on the Oregon Trail. The limited selection of produce was really what convinced me that Sam's Club was not for us. They had some amazing deals on a few items ($5 for what I think was 3 lbs of blueberries!), but again, the variety of items seemed quite limited in comparison with HEB. The other areas of the store had some pretty good deals as well, but we're not really in a financial situation where we can take advantage of their great deals in electronics all the time to make the membership fee worth it.
