Sam did an excellent job replacing broken water heater. Our heater did not work, Sam arrived in 1 hour, inspected, try to fix it with replacement parts. Because our heater was more than 10 years old that did not work. He said it was unsafe to use it. He ordered the new heater and in 1 day on Sunday replaced it. He explained every step thoroughly, gave as options, worked efficiently, helped to move out and back in our heavy laundry washer and dryer, cleaned area after repair. Have been using Yelp, for years with good success but not in the case of "Sam the Plumber"...My wife and I are in our 70's and need it help with a plumbing issue... I checked "Sam's" reviews and thought wow a solid pro... Wrong!!! ...Have no clue how "Sam" ever got 5 stars from anyone given he is far from a professional... We needed our Moen shower cartridge replaced... He had trouble removing the old cartridge and broke some parts getting it out... We have a single handle Moen, that controls the hot and cold... After replacing the cartridge I checked and saw that he had installed it upside down...Meaning the hot/cold were on the wrong side... When asked about it "Sam" said if my wife had a problem with it he would return and correct what he had done... My wife who is both a Cancer and Liver transplant survivor was almost burned by the hot water, because the handle is loose and moves to easily (because of the broken parts, Sam, broke) Sam, never advised me what parts he broke so I could purchase replacements nor did he return as promised when I requested he do so... Further evidence of non professional status is the fact he refused to provide us an invoice listing the parts and labor costs...Days later when he finally sent an invoice it was not itemized or informative... It simply listed the lump sum we paid him, including the tax... It did not list the cost of his labor nor the cost of the new cartridge... He never told us if the cartridge was a Moen or after market.. He charged $45 which is the cost of a Moen replacement but he never informed us if it was a Moen... Bottom line, I feel Sam (5 star) failed to act like a professional and gave no indication through his work that he really deserves the very high rating he's received...This is the very first negative review I have ever given a contractor on Yelp...BEWARE! read more

Sam came to my home in Queens to repair a leaking cast iron radiator in my living room. It was also missing the valve handle, which added to the drama. The house was built in the 1930's and it has never been serviced. I work remotely for my company and had several video/Zoom conferences that I unfortunately had to attend. In-between the meetings, Sam was able to keep me informed on the radiator's issues and his proposed solutions. The radiator needed to be re-pitched correctly since the floor boards were old and warped, and the air vent and radiator valve were rusted and had to be replaced. The radiator is now leak-free and quiet. I will definitely use his services in the future and have recommended his plumbing skills to my friends and Mom, so you know he must be good at his job. Lastly, he is tech-savy. He had me take pictures of my radiator's issues and send it to him via my cellphone.
