We were just passing through town and I found this place on YELP. With 4 1/2 stars I knew it must be good. I was right! We both had the fish and shrimp, and we weren't disappointed. Also, the red beans were very good. Oh, and my $4.99 garden salad was HUGE! Everyone working here was very friendly, too. YES, we would eat here again. This was our second time to visit this restaurant. Both times the food has been good and the service excellent. We have had the fish, chicken strips, shrimp, French fries, green beans, red beans and rice, and the green beans and everything was good tasting, fresh and hot. This food is yummy! As others have said the service is great. I also appreciated that the music that is playing is not too loud so we can still comfortably carry on a conversation at our table. I had the fried shrimp po' boy and it did not disappoint. The Sam's sauce is yummy. We enjoyed the fried okra appetizer too. The portions are generous and the prices are good. A good place for families and friends to come. I recommend it and hope Sam's enjoys many great years in this spot on Main Street in Norman. read more

Delicious food. Fun atmosphere great waitstaff. Be hungry when you arrive the portions are large and food is amazing. This is one of the few cajun places that serves grilled vegetables and salads. Ate dinner in the restaurant which was very good. I ordered a to go order and when we left, I forgot to pick it up from the table. I called them 15 minutes later when I realized what I had done and they told me they threw it away already. This was a to go order in a bag! Yes, I forgot it but the least they could of done was hold on to it for longer than cleaning off the table. Did they offer to cook me another one, no they did not. Such a nice place to eat and hang out, the staff are always so nice and welcoming and the environment is super cozy and fun. Each time I've been there I've shared a plate with someone and the kitchen always gives us extra food without prompt or charging us which is so incredibly cool. The portions are very big but to give us extra food knowing we are sharing is a step above and beyond that I would have never expected. The food itself is always piping hot and delicious, especially the catfish. The service here is incredible. I have literally never been treated better than at Sam's, it's quickly become one of my favorite restaurants in Norman. read more

As I drive through downtown Norman on my to a local Tex-mex restaurant, I found Sam's Southern Eatery. On a whim, I decided to pull in and try it out. The restaurant was clean, spacious, and the help was kind and gracious. The menu is focused on seafood fare, primarily fish, shrimp, and oysters. However, one can also choose a hamburger, gumbo, or a salad. The seafood can be grilled or fried. I had a combo plate with grilled shrimp and fried fish, all of which was cooked perfectly. I had red beans and rice as well as cole slaw for the side, which was tasty. My only reason for not giving five stars is because the portion size was 8/10. Nonetheless, I walked away satisfied. First visit Saturday at 5 p.m.. Surprised at how large it is. Decor was strange...not sure what they were trying to achieve . We had fish and shrimp.Flavor was good. I was super excited to try this place out! But super disappointed as I left. It was very obvious, and the waitress even told me, that all product is frozen by the franchise and thrown in the frier. I had the grilled shrimp, which was tasty, but the green beans were straight from the can and the French fries tasted like they were something from the Walmart freezer isle. I imagine that they do not even bread the product themselves at the location. The service was good and fast! If you go, I would only recommend the grilled shrimp, and honesty nothing else. This place was very good. We stopped for lunch on New Year's day, while traveling through Oklahoma. I have probably had better red beans and rice, but I surely don't know when. The breading on the shrimp was very different from anything I've ever had, but it was also very good. And the shrimp was fried to perfection. My husband had a basket of baby shrimp, and he said they were also done perfectly. He had french fries which I thought were very very good. I had coleslaw; it was above average. The staff was helpful, enthusiastic, and very efficient. The food came out very quickly and the temperature was perfect. Try this place; you won't be disappointed. If we lived in the area, we would come back often. read more

Loved this place! I had the shrimp po' boy sandwich . Sandwich was almost a foot long cut and wrapped in 2 halves. It came with 2 extra shrimp on top of my fries (other side choices available). The bread was so fresh and shrimp were large and excellent. Loved their fries too. Waiter was extremely nice and made sure I was well taken care of. The restaurant is cramped. Tables are too close. The server was good. We both felt that the food was good when we started eating it but a hour later we felt greasy and then we felt the food was ok. Menu has a lot of variety as far as whether you prefer fried or grilled, and even goes as far as the number of each type of food you want (pieces of catfish, shrimp, oysters, etc.) however, they tend to add more than what you order- they said that was "Sam's way." Went home with lots of leftovers! Don't get a lot of quality southern seafood in OK, so I was excited to try Sam's, and it definitely exceeded expectations. read more
