I received a few quotes with varying prices and couldn't decide, therefore I also did a Google search of reviews of the various places to help me make my decision of where to take my vehicle. GP, which is 45 mins away from my home, and an hour in traffic from my work, quoted me a flat rate with parts and labor included, which was $20 more than a shop in my neighborhood. The removal and install was fast, and the gentleman was very professional. My bill was actually $20 more than the flat rate quoted. Therefore, I ended up paying $40 more than I would have paid had I gone to a local shop, 1hour 45 mins driving, and a 1/4 tank of gas. Pricey lesson learned. However, I'm grateful that my windshield is fixed before winter. I recommend this location for folks who live in the area. It's clean with a comfortable waiting room. Also, if you're low in cash, make sure you know that "flat rate" doesn't mean the same to everyone. Use the Project tool to receive quotes, etc, but do extra homework and know exactly how much a service will cost you in exact pricing, considering your travel (gas) expenses, and time when comparing.

I called not realizing that it was already after hours, Mike called me right back from his cell phone and asked me to send him a pic of my VIN. The next day he called me again and said that my windshield was on order and should be in just as I arrived in Michigan. He got the glass replaced it for me quickly and was very professional and polite. The next day I noticed a weird defect in the glass so I called Mark again and without hesitation he said to give him a couple days to order another windshield. I was shocked when the police officer who I filed a report with matter-of-factly told me that the bullet probably came from Detroit - more than a half mile south of my home. He hypothesized that someone had decided to shoot their 45-caliber handgun into the air. "What comes up must come down," he said. Nice, I thought. Even better was the fact that my insurance company would not cover this. I called around to several glass shops in the area. The model of my truck is not common in these parts, and compounded by its age, I was told by all shops that a special order would have to be made which would ultimately end up costing more than a decent fraction of the value of my truck. I was fortunate enough to channel my inner hillbilly and find a suitable rear window at a junk yard in Detroit. Side note: I 'spose I've finally earned my Detroit pass after driving to a junk yard with a bullet hole in my window. Being the complete criminal scam that car insurance is, my company would not cover it so I was in the game for the cheapest, quickest fix I could find. When I told the guys at Ferndale City Glass that I'd found a replacement window, they told me to bring it in and they'd install it for $65. The bottom of the replacement junk yard window was rusted out and they were actually able to salvage certain parts from the original window to make it all work better than new - in less than an hour. I was beyond impressed. So all said and done, my surprise lesson in trajectory and gravity only ended up costing me about $165 rather than more than $300 which is what I was expecting based on quotes I had received. This a great family owned business which has been in the area for more than half a century. They know what they are doing. I highly recommend this to anyone who needs glass repair done in the Ferndale area.
