The tonkatsu ramen here was really good. My favorite part is that they allow you to add beef instead of chicken or pork. I've never seen that before at any ramen place, but I've always wished I could add it since pork and chicken seems so limited. The broth is very flavorful, especially if you get the spice added which is an absolute must. We came here because we stayed in Creekside to go skiing. Our last night at Whistler, we decided to head to Whistler Samurai Bowl. We knew most of the places in Whistler required a reservation so this is the best place to go for food last minute. We walked in and there was a long line up. Most of the people who pick up food here are locals. The portion size was ok. It is slightly more expensive than Vancouver or the city. But when you compare the prices to Whistler, it is not bad. The food itself was tasty. It was very solid. I got the Seoul Box. It came with the: - 2 pieces of red fried chicken (not spicy) - Teriyaki beef - Kimchi - Salad - Rice - garden roll I was full after eating the entire box. I really like the teriyaki beef. it was very flavorful and you can tell that they marinated the beef overnight before cooking. There are limited tables inside and outside. They have all Covid protocols in place. Food came at a reasonable time. I believe this is a family ran restaurant. There are free parking in front of the restaurant. I highly recommend coming here and giving this place a try. I will be back next time I am in Whistler. read more

Stumbled upon this place by chance after driving around trying to find food. It has some tables to eat in, but was happy to see they had a steady stream of take out orders, seemingly a favorite place by locals. Many of them raved about the red chicken. We ended up getting a couple specials. A chicken donburi as well as spicy ramen with gyoza and a side of edamame. The gyoza seemed to be double deep fried, which was different and ok. Edamame was really good as well as the ramen noodles. Both the broth and donburi were fine. For the price point and quantity of food, we were satisfied and wouldn't mind coming back on our way out from Whistler. read more

Came here because it was near the Evolution lodge. The staff is very friendly and food was served very quickly. They have self-serve tea and water. We ordered their Korean fried chicken, miso ramen, and shoyu beef ramen. Looks like they have daily specials that is discounted as they come with two sides. We got spicy shoyu beef ramen which the spice completely masked the shoyu flavor; it's not bad but you can't taste anything else except for the spicy flavor. The miso ramen was not bad but lacks the umami flavor or richness of the bone broth. Also, it was too salty for me. Loved their ramen as it came with corn and soy marinated egg. Kids liked the karaage and the salmon and tuna poke bowls will fill you up. The Hubs and I drove into this place on a weekday in Sept. There was a sporadic walk-in of takeout orders going through. Walking in to seeing the menu change was the same devastation I felt when Jon snow died on Game of Thrones or when GOT decided to skip a year and air the next season in 2019?! WTF all, this used to be my McDonalds of sushi and now it's no longer. They don't do any sushi or ramen anymore! Wahhhhhhh! Granted they still do have their Samurai specials which are yummy bento boxes (beef or chicken teriyaki), awesome donburi bowls and Asian wraps. I know what your thinking, what are Asian wraps? Well it's pretty much everything that goes into a donburi minus the rice and replaced by greens, so it's really healthy! I was a skeptic and got the vegetarian wrap and it was the bomb.com! It's spicy, filled with cooked tofu, edamame, spring greens, carrots, and sweets yams. And for $7 this is a hearty wrap. Their chicken karaage is also a yummy juicy finger side food with no fatty parts that goes so well with this or can also be put into your wrap. Service here has always been awesome. The one and only cashier really hustles to take orders, and run food to tables. I also love the free green tea while you wait for your grub. I hope the old menu returns, there is a possibility if they hire more people. This joint is just the victim of the slow season just like all places up here. So here's my plea to anyone that knows of anyone that knows how to make sushi or ramen and that wants to work here in Whistler, please refer them or move here! FAST! Affordable. Tasty! Service was perhaps abrupt but cheerful enough and efficient. The ramen was decent - I'm not an expert - and I enjoyed the slightly chewy noodles. The happy hour special was a light snack at a great price - ordering it is a way to add a few appetizers to your meal. The dine-in space says 'max 22 people' which feels like WAY too many even though they have installed a lot of plexi-glass. I'd recommend taking away your food if you are nervous about COVID. The family dinner that we ordered was awful. The fried chicken was greasy and overly breaded. The miso soup had an awful taste. The pork gyoza were doughy and the meat was tasteless. First night in Whistler for a 2 month stay (we like to say we live here, we're not tourists so we don't get the Covid stare) So we had three tuna poke bowls which were good portions and filling. They don't serve sushi at this location which seems to be the crux of people's issues. We had a crispy chicken with a red sauce which wasn't too memorable but fit the bill and was a good portion. The name changed to samurai sushi. Its really small with limited seating so I can imagine waiting for a table if we waited longer. Luckily we ate at 4 pm right after skiing. There were a constant stream of people coming in to order. We ordered chicken ramen and chicken udon with a side order of gyoza. The order came out very fast. We liked the udon but the soup of the ramen was not very tasty. It was very different to say the least and we were not impressed. The gyoza was ok as well. The prices weren't bad for the sushi but it was way expensive for ramen, especially since the ramen wasn't that good. I will also add the ramen noodles were undercooked. A solid takeout option that is consistently good, albeit we order the same thing every time. Veggie Donburi + order of the Red Korean Chicken. The donburi is chock full of veggies and the chicken is so tender and flavourful. Getting through on the phone is super easy (unlike the Nesters Samurai) and it's usually only a 10 or so minute wait. Our most recent meal here was disappointing. They appear to have switched to a more mass produced style of food prep. I ordered the special of the day (chicken teriyaki donburi meal) and ended up with boiled chicken with flavorless teriyaki sauce drizzled on top, deep fried potstickers (won't call it gyoza), and mushy California roll with dry rice. Eating here was once a highlight of our Whistler trips. If you liked authentic Japanese food, this place was spectacular. I'd waited to post a review for Samurai Ramen only because I wanted to compare it to ramen from Hokkaido (where their regional dish is ramen). And let me tell you, the ramen at Samurai is legit, possibly even better than the ramen I partook in Hokkaido, Japan. The pork broth is rich, and the roasted garlic elevated the flavor. Umami is epic here, never wanting. Maybe because we'd been out all day (in late November), and not used to the cold weather (being from Hawaii), but the ramen here is the best we've ever had. Popular choices are obviously their sushi nigiri and rolls, but their new ramen menu has been quite popular too (even leading to an incorrect separate ramen listing). Our order: Tonkotsu Pork Ramen - nothing unusual or spectacular, but a nice change of pace from the fried and pub food common to the area. Served piping hot and with two nice slices of pork. The broth was decent and the noodles hit the spot. Plain Udon Noodles - again, very basic but served piping hot and a nice change of pace from all the food we had been eating for most of our stay here. Nigiri Combination - a nice selection including salmon (Salmon is King in Canada), toro, unagi, and tamago. The rice was a touch cold, but it was well formed and the fish was basic, but fresh. Overall, we had a nice meal at Samurai Sushi. We enjoyed all the menu selections and the fast and efficient service by which they serve locals and visitors alike. I think this restaurant is going through a transition period. We asked a local for help locating this place and he said it was a great place to get sushi. There was a sign on the door that states they have no sushi. The name suggests there are noodles, but my husband asked if they had noodles and they did not. When Ramen is part of the name of your restaurant, then there is no reason to not have ramen on the menu; and if you do happen to not have ramen on the menu, make it obvious via Yelp and other channels that you don't, and apologize like heck for not having it because it really felt like a "Bait & Switch" situation since we drove south of the Village to get there. Big ticket blurb item out of the way, now down to the nitty-gritty. Like I said above, this Samurai Ramen Noodle Soup Creek Side does not have ramen during the Summer Season, which was conveyed in a sign taped to the facade and register that places the blame on "difficulty in staffing" which really sounds like a personal problem instead of decreased demand, which would have been entirely acceptable from a customer point of view. Then to top off the lack of their signature product, the flippant response of "you won't be able to get ramen at any other sushi restaurant in Whistler either, but you can buy crappy ramen from the grocery store if you still have to have ramen" really rubbed me the wrong way as a customer (especially b/c my parents have owned multiple restaurants, and that kind of response would have been immediate grounds for termination). No "Sorry" or "Gomen'nasai" or anything other than what can be summed up as "we ain't got ramen, so deal with it". They did offer me the chance to buy a bowl of Miso Soup, but IMHO that isn't really a substitute. Enough about the ramen, and the lack of customer service, on to the food that we did get. We bought the Spicy Agedashi Tofu appetizer, 1 Chicken Teriyaki Bento box, 2 Sushi Rolls after deciding to stay since we were hungry, and had planned our day down south of the Village b/c this restaurant led there. The Spicy Agedashi Tofu was absolutely horrible. The taste profile of the sweet Korean Cho Gochu-Jang sauce drenched over the semi-warm tofu was not a good combo. Truly, this is a fusion food, and was both too sweet and overpowering for any Japanese dish. Unfortunately, this was the first thing to come out, so we had to wait for a few min before being able to chase the taste from our mouths with other food. The Chicken Teriyaki Bento box was marginally passable, but the bland/dry chicken really could have done with more teriyaki sauce, and I would have preferred a dark meat option since I'm not a big fan of the lighter variety. I've had bland/dry chicken teriyaki at other Japanese restaurants before, so that's nothing special to this visit I guess. What did strike me as odd was the Wakame Seaweed Salad in the Bento box. It was more of a dull Army green w/ translucent threads that made the salad taste greasier because of the old/expired appearance. I could only eat a few bites of the Wakame before abandoning the Bento box, half eaten. The only reason I say that it was marginally passable was that the rice and lettuce salad was good... The 2 Sushi Rolls were nothing to write home about, so I won't. There was not enough Wasabi on the plate, so my wife and I had to share what we had, and we didn't eat the last of the Sushi Rolls once the wasabi ran out. All in all, this was a very disappointing Yelp excursion, as I believe this restaurant had 4 stars when we decided to go. Forget about price or other factors, the food that was available was Meh at best, but it was the unapologetic service that really sealed this 1 star review, which should have been negative stars if only Yelp would allow it. If you are reading this, and you are not Asian, you will probably be "OK" with this restaurant, but if happen to be a Japanese Cuisine fan, then avoid this place at all costs, as it just won't match the flavor profile and type of service that one has come to expect from Japanese Ramen or even just Generic Japanese restaurants. I really hate to give such a bad review, but I feel that someone else should know what this place is about since most people traveling to Whistler don't have many meals to enjoy while at such a beautiful World Class Ski Resort. I would have been happier with a McDonald's meal or even something from a gas station instead of the vittles from this place, but alas, even with Yelp's help one sometimes must eat substandard food along the road of life... read more
