The only reason this place gets a 2 Is the shitty wait staff. I like this pub but what happened the other night was complete BS! My wife and I ordered dinner, my wife getting the full price won ton soup. 18$ it contained 3 wontons and some pre frozen prawns maybe 4-5. The soup itself was tasteless. She ate the wontons and the prawns, neither were great. I told her to tell the waitress if and when she ever returned to our table. Now she did knock half the cost off which I thought was good of her. She booked out and another waitress with a pony tale. Actually had the audacity to say to my wife "if you didn't like the soup why did you eat the good stuff. " There was no good stuff! But more importantly who do you think your talking to? If you worked for me you would be down the road so fast.... I hope the owner sees this and cans that B@&@ ass. read more

Group of 4 of us walked in at a pretty busy time around 6:30pm on a Thursday night. We got seats right away! The staff are very helpful and friendly and don't bother you often. It also appears to be well staffed where you don't need to wait often for a waiter or waitress to find you. We ordered many wings for 35 cents each as that was the reason why we went there. The wings were large and although the selection for sauces are not wide, they covered the main sauces that everyone would expect. It was very well made! They have happy hours 2-6pm on weekdays here. Beer selection is small and domestic. The half priced appy's are surprisingly decent sized for the price. We got 15 wings for $4.99. That's rare. Suicide wings were spicy and tangy, not stupid hot and lacking flavour, the flavour was actually very enjoyable. Service got better by drink number 2, and the food came out fast and hot. Steak bites were also very good. Not overdone and rubbery, but juicy and flavourful. We didn't have the old grouchy server with clothes too small for her... We had a young and polite girl. read more

Really, really don't like giving low stars, but had an 'experience' at this spot. Was having a great day testing out the boat on the lake. Worked up a thirst and an appetite. I don't know the area, so used Yelp to go to Sam's. Had a pint and started chatting and luckily we had a lot to catching up to do, as it must have been half an hour before I was informed there was a mix up with my burger. Waited another fair bit before my buddy's burger arrived, and I was informed mine was still coming and on the house, which was a nice gesture. Thanks! To be clear: once we got our burgers they were bloody excellent. The place is a happening spot. However, they took way too long in addressing the situation. If my day had been different, and I had been on a schedule, I would been 'lunched.' read more

Dropped by on a Sunday afternoon for lunch, we both had a pint of beer @$4.95 each, pretty good price. I had the salt+pepper chicken wings for $8.00, pretty fair price good wings. My friend had the chicken cajun club sandwich with fries, he said it was the best one he had, the chicken was a thick breast and the cajun spice was perfect. Servers are prompt and super fast, they have been up and down with their food (I know it's frozen Sysco food, but they do well with it) They finally got new fries and put poutine on the menu and it's BIG for 7 bucks, so I'm a happy camper about that. You are not allowed to share. If I want to give someone some bites of my food, I damn well will. I understand not sharing if you want "ALL YOU CAN EAT" but if you get one plate and do not order AYCE, then what's the problem? BY THE WAY, it does NOT say, you CANNOT share on the menu, but I had a waitress take away the second cutlery rudely when I said we were sharing and said, and I quote, "Read the menu." Same waitress that is there every Wednesday. Well, I went up to the service center and helped myself to the cutlery. That was bizarre and rude and I've never had service like that in all the years I've been there. Please change that or specify the rules. They have a great beer selection, within the last 3 years they rotate private breweries, and have a lot on tap. I'd work on the cocktail menu, not so good. Cocktails taste warm, not enough ice. Love the atmosphere. Clean cozy open concept, older crowd (baby boomer) mixed with middle aged and mid-30's. Not a whole lot of young people and no kids allowed. Lots and lots of tv's. Like, a LOT, and the patio is covered, it's not outdoor. Other than that I like it. I recently went to Samz for the first time. The service was good. The chicken tenders need work and I wish they gave more fries . The waitresses are nice and friendly. The location is great for those taking transit/buses 173/174/160 the bus goes right near the place. Wish I didn't have to work that night. It would have been nice to try it longer. Next time I'm trying a burger. Hopefully it's not on any fancy buns etc. read more

I didn't eat in Samz, but I did order takeout. Even though I enjoyed what I had ordered, my bf was disappointed with his meal, that's why the 3 stars. The guy who took our order over the phone was really nice and the wait time of 20 mins wasn't too bad. When I got to Samz, the guy behind the bar knew I was there to just pick up food. I'm going to say he took my order! I ordered the Buffalo Burger. That was good. Just the right amount of hot sauce. My bf had gotten the Chipotle Chicken Burger. Unfortunatley, there was barley any Chipotle mayo and he had to add his own sauce to the burger He was greatly disappointed that they didn't give a generous slathering of the mayo. We both had the cesar salad with our burgers. I personally felt there was a bit too much cesar dressing. The look of the pub was really nice. It wasn't packed for a Sunday night, but it was full. We go every Friday and Saturday night, never had a bad time. We usually go as a larger group, and though they don't take reservations, they have always been super accommodating to our parties (which are sometimes +20). Staff is always friendly, knows our names, and solves any possible issues without a hassle. I have seen people being cut off before, but that's because they've had too much to drink, not because they needed to clear tables. 5 stars for the extra concern for their patrons! read more

I often go here with friends on sundays to watch the football game. Great drink specials, food deals and service. 1/2 off appies all day! Brunch menu is also very good, tried much of the menu and it is also great. Never had a problem with the food. I've been here a fair bit and I just really don't like it that much. I mean if someone else wants to go there I'll go if I can't talk them out of it but it's not my choice. Waitresses are never that friendly and I don't really like the menu. There's lots of over 50s in there too if that's your scene. One person had a burger and said well how can you screw up a burger. But the fries were just regular boring food service fries. Halibut tacos sounded good - halibut, pico di gallo, guacalmole, cream fresh with cilantro. Sounded awesome and got the"good choice" from the waitress. In reality is was not. Flour tortillas - I expected corn. The halibut was small pieces all battered and fried to shoe leather - absolutely inedible. Pico de gallo - by definition is fresh cut tomato, onion, cucumber peppers garlic etc - here it is slimy food service salsa from a bottle - just a total YUK for me. And the gucamole, creme fresh and cilantro were not separate items but just some green sauce that was drizzled on top. The whole thing was just low quality. Basically it seems that the menu here is not dictated by a "chef" but by Sysco Food Service. read more

Due to liver & spleen issues I have been put on this intense diet until I see a specialist. For the past month all I've eaten is fish & vegetables. Last night I decided to have a cheat night so myself & my girlfriend went to Samz. I ordered the Steak (8oz) & Prawn special. Unfortunately because it was later at night they didn't have any more of the special. So I ordered the sirloin steak with mushrooms. The server came back to advise me they were out of the 8oz steak. To make up for it the server asked if I was still interested in the 6oz & she would throw prawns on it free of charge. On top of that...when we got the bill she also gave us a discount. This server (no name unfortunately) was very polite & helpful right from the get go. She did everything she could possibly do to correct the issue and make us happy. In this day & age its very difficult to find decent customer service. The server we had last night had exceptional customer service skills. I hope the managers see this, figure out who she was (I'm sure she'll remember us lol) & commends her for her outstanding service. read more

I guess this is the place to be if you want to study for your final, or bring your grandparents in for a pint. We just moved in to the neighborhood and want to start supporting the local restos and shops. Samz looked good from the outside but unfortunately the food was not that great. We started well with the mini yorkies which was tiny yorkshire pudding with roast beef and horseradish aioli and, dip. It was downhill from there though. The reuben needed more meat and the breading on the fish (and chips) was too thick. And they didn't have malt vinegar. We won't be frequenting this pub much. read more

Sorry all you 'nay Sayers' I love this place. On my first few visits the food needed work...especially the soups but there have been massive improvements ! I find the staff excellent, the food consistent and the manager, Amanda, awesome ! I go frequently for the lunch special which is excellent for price, volume and quality ! If you had a bad experience in the past give it another chance...it really is improved dramatically ! Visited today (Aug 5)...it was delicious ! Second time this week. The soup and sandwich cannot be beat...for quality or price ! Excellent corn and chicken soup accompanied by a very flavourful whole sandwich. I tour pubs weekly and I have to say, this is a favourite ! Great staff and the manager Amanda is open to listening to suggestions...even criticism...(we asked about simple dry ribs, not spiced)...and so attentive ! Another reason we chose to eat here...the ambiance is casual and comfortable without having music blaring making you end up shouting ! If you are a sports fan...you can follow them on TV from every seat. read more

This is the worse pub in Port Coquitlam. The atmosphere is boring, the food is average. The older server that wears clothes far to tight and young for her age is the most miserable/rudest person we have ever come across in this industry. She clearly doesn't like her job and needs to go on the tv show "What Not To Wear". The Burke, Orange, Cat & Fiddle are far better pubs to spend time at. They all have polite servers that enjoy there jobs and are happy to serve you. They don't slam your drinks down on the table and scowl at you.. The management at Sam's needs to replace the old nasty miserable server they have working for them now because she is hurting business.!! read more

4 stars might be a bit overrated, but I would have to say that everytime I go here I have a positive experience. It's more than decent; It's not pretentious or crusty like some "other" places in the area. It's a proper pub with a balanced atmosphere. Happy hour apps were all we ate while we drank a regrettable amount of beer. I do remember that the cheese sticks were the greatest, and the wings, although only mediocre, were cheap and plentiful. Skip the chili bites. The staff was friendly and the bar seems like a great place to watch sports, although the only sport that was on was poker and is that really a sport? It took awhile to get drinks, we had to as the hostess to put our order in to get a drink. The dinner we had (pasta night) was great. I love this place with the exception of one sever. She is so miserable and rude every time I get her. My friends and I go there almost every Saturday for the UFC fights and get the steak and prawns on special. Food is very good and so is the price. Every other server is great, friendly and attentive.
