For a casual local pub this place hits the spot. I have been on weekends, weekdays, midday, evening, late evening and the staff are always pleasant and down to earth. If you're looking for something fancy or expecting a fine dining experience this is not your place. However, if you're looking for a relaxed environment to hang out with new or old friends and grab a drink and some pub grub this place is perfect. Most recently when I went I tried out the mini Yorkshire puddings and was delighted by how delicious they were. They were quite reasonably priced as well. Nachos here are always a classic and their tater tots are never a bad decision. I love their heated patio and have spent many hours sitting out there laughing with friends. I will definitely be back to enjoy another gathering soon. read more

First time here. Nice atmosphere and attentive helpful staff. Good beer selection with several from local breweries. 5pm on a Saturday was busy but not packed. Sadly the menu is misleading. They do not have fresh cut Kennebec fries. They were the old frozen ones 90% of bars serve these days. Waitress said she'd advise the manager. Colleague had the Guinness Beef pie which was very good with a nice pastry. Will go again for the beer, but not the fries. read more

Today visiting Port Moody we had the most wonderful experience at St Jame's Well Old Irish Pub. Janet offered to us a very courteous professional service. The culinary is outstanding , portions are generous and very affordable . We had pints of Phillips beer , very delicious and for lunch salt and pepper chicken wings , grill chicken wrap and I have to say the most delicious LIVER AND ONIONS , second to none in Greater Vancouver, strongly recommend it!!!. It is a very cozy Irish pub to be visited again and the ambiance is so cool!! read more

A very comfortable Irish themed pub. The servers were friendly and made you feel comfortable. The food is well done as well. I believe they are known for their yorkshire pudding appetizer, and well earned! We had the yorkies, caeser salads (not overly dressed, really good!), fish and chips. No complaints! We were in the area and decided to try this pub. We entered to find the place fairly busy, which is a good sign, even on a Saturday night. Upon entering, we found a welcoming ambiance and some loud cheering. Scanned the QR code for the menu and found the prices were different (slightly more) then the website we had glanced at in the parking lot, yeah... we do that. No matter we said, as we ordered a poutine and some Yorkshire pudding to start. The food was excellent. Well prepared and very flavourful. We ordered bread pudding for desert as well and were not disappointed. The service was good, the decor was appropriate but the many TVs were very loud. The price as expected was in the higher end but the quality of the food was worth it. All and all, I would gladly return to this establishment. read more

We've been to this pub at least a dozen times, and really enjoyed the British pub food and cozy atmosphere. Sitting out on the patio, sipping cider on a hot summer day while scarfing down Yorkies, and then going for gelato afterwards. I am surprised I hadn't yet written a review. (Mind you, this was all pre-Covid.) Unfortunately, this pub saw fit to run a 50+person Trivia night during a pandemic, causing another outbreak. We've ordered their Sunday Roast dinner twice now since the COVID-19 situation began. The second time is just as delicious as the first. Both times we've ordered two meals and a bottle of red wine. Each meal comes with a side Caesar salad, two large slabs of roast beef, some delicious horseradish and gravy, two Yorkshire puddings, mashed potatoes, and some mixed vegetables (carrot, broccoli, mushroom, acorn squash, red & green peppers). Great food and amazing service! I visited here on Sunday for brunch/lunch and had a great time. I ordered the Mac n' Cheese with a side Caesar salad and I have to say it's one of the best Mac n' Cheese dishes I've ever had. It was comforting and had enough acidity without being too heavy. I ordered a side of Frank's before ordering it but didn't need it because the dish was already balanced. It's a shame to read previous reviews based solely on the unfortunate Covid outbreak that occurred at this pub earlier this year. People have to understand that things happen as this all uncharted territory for everyone. I personally felt very safe during my visit and enjoyed my time out on their patio. Give this place a chance if you haven't already! I'm definitely coming back and interested in their Happy Hour specials (3-6pm and 9pm-close). read more

What I don't like: it's really loud, the music is loud and if it's busy you have to almost scream to communicate The Dublin dip, which is a French dip sandwich is incredible! This pub is responsible for COVID spread. Per BC health officials, they did not follow protocols, and hosted a 50 person event, resulting in 15 people catching COVID, which has caused community spread. It's up to all of us to hold each other accountable, and I urge people not to visit this establishment - not just for your own health, but for the community. This pub was extremely irresponsible. This is a challenging time and businesses are trying to stay afloat, but this pub hosted a trivia night against public health orders. The public health orders are not perfect, and at times confusing; but this was an egregious disregard for the rules and for the health of the community. The pub has undergone rigorous cleaning - and perhaps they will be safe moving forward - but regardless, I hope that people will chose to spend their money elsewhere and not support this business. read more

Oh, ye old stomping grounds. Growing up PoCoMo, there were few choices for proper pints and tasty pub food so it's no wonder why people flocked and still flock to the Well. Richly lacquered millwork that shines (and if you look closely at the bar you might still be able to see initials carved in--not by me, but by some of the blokes that used to frequent the bar too), unmarked taps (full of lagers, ales and of course Guinness), a dart board, and a yummy menu! Mini yorkshire puddings, a brie, strawberry and turkey sandwich, Guinness Chowder... I may not make it out to my home turf very often, but I have no troubles telling friends I'll meet them at the Well for a cheeky one when I do! read more

Okay, so it's not the best food ever (it's not bad, mind you) but St. James's Well is a great place to meet up with old friends and catch up over drinks in a cozy environment. I make a point of doing a "bar night" with friends every time I visit BC and if I'm home around Christmas holidays we always nurse our hangovers here on New Year's Day. This place is within stumbling distance to my parent's Ioco Rd. home and I've always had decent service. The food over the years seems about the same but I pretty much only order the fish and chips (for some reason they don't do a lot of fish and chips in California and I always crave them). A little added bonus is that there always seems to be good looking men here. I ask... where were all these guys hiding when I lived here??? Anyway... Decent place for pretty much standard food and (what I'm told since I've never had a beer in my life) a good beer selection. I'm a fan of the warm, woody Irish pub decor. The parking situation however kind of sucks (I've had to do like a hundred point turn just to get out of that stupid parking garage below). What a shame! We used to like going there for food but this is the third time on a row now and has been disappointing three times in a row. This place is a solid 3.5 stars! I've been here a handful of times and the food is pretty spot on for a pub, albeit they have some interesting stuff on the menu but somehow it works out. The reason the place only gets 3.5 stars is because its a loud, I mean duh me right, it's a pub. They have live music and unless you are on the polar opposite side of the room, its impossible to have a conversation. This is really my own bias though, sorry! Seriously, this place has the BEST deep fried pickles I've ever encountered, you get like six of them (so share them cause you know they get gross once they cool down) and the spicy dipping sauce is great. The Stuffed Yorkies are a clever way to push roast beef and gravy into your face, I honestly can't believe this hasn't been stolen by a hundred other pubs. Be warned, the Nacho's come on Potato Chips rather than Tortilla Chips, which isn't a Cardinal Sin but perhaps just Venial Sin. The steak sandwich and cottage pie enjoyed by friends, seemingly large portions of each. Staff are generally pleasant, near to order and especially quick to refill drinks, they definitely serve 20oz pints and they make a Crown Float more skillfully than most. read more

Since I live around the corner, I find myself at The Well (as us locals seem to refer to it) quite often. They have a great selection of on-tap beers that are reasonably priced and their food is always edible. It seems like they've had a few change-overs in the kitchen in the last year or two, but my favourites (turkey brie sandwich, fish n' chips, most of the traditional Irish fare) seem to remain on the menu through all of these changes. The food quality does seem to vary depending on time of day and day of the week. I suspect it probably depends on whether or not the head chef is around in the kitchen or not. As a general rule though, the food is always at least decent, and can actually be amazing on a good night. This place is worth stopping in at if you find yourself in the tri-cities! read more

Pretty good for an Irish place! I like the potato (?) bun that they used. Welcome change from the typical lame bun used at most places. My only critique would be more sauce. "The Well is the place to be in the Village" Last night a friend and I went to St James's Well Pub aka "the Well" in Newport Village, Port Moody. I was not disappointed one bit! The food, Irish themed atmosphere and service was pretty darn good being a pub and its no wonder it's a local favorite. We ordered delicious stuffed Yorkshire pudding with au jus and hot wings washed down with a pint o' pale ale. That's right, I am a woman and I love beer and wings! I can't wait to go back for the beef dip and nachos which are apparently "a pile of goodness"...on a night when they have live music (every Friday and Saturday night!). The pub is open 11am to midnight everyday and they even have a delicious brunch menu! I recommend the Brioche French Toast or the Well Breakfast- the rosemary potatoes are delish! read more

Every time I visit The Well, I am always floored by the decor. It's like I stepped into a little part of Ireland. For charm and ambience, this place wins!!! The servers are very friendly and the Manager is always full of smiles. This pub offers quite a decent amount of beer, wine, coolers, and some cocktails, so there is generally something for everyone. On their menu, they have a great assortment of your standard pub comfort food. The Cheesy Chive Dip and Stuffed Yorkies are just drool worthy! The Well has a fair bit of gluten free foods on the menu (almost all of their appies and a decent part of their entrees) which I think is just great! The gluten free fish and chips are a little on the small side. The salmon entree however, was definitely on the generous side. Overall, this is such a neat little place in the heart of New Port Village. It's great for casual pub dates with friends or just hanging out to watch a game. Just don't expect it to get too rowdy! Decent pub, great atmosphere most of the time. Food is usually decent but overpriced in my opinion. Recently came here with a group of 9 people around 7:30 on a friday night, it looked really busy and we weren't sure if they could accommodate us, but they "sat" us at a small round bar table with only three stools and barely enough room for other people to get by around us as we were surrounded by other tables full of people. There definitely was not enough space around that tiny table for 9 people and we quickly got tired of having to shuffle around when people wanted to get past us. It was loud and way overcrowded and more than half of our group didn't even have a place to sit at our tiny table, so we decided to leave and go elsewhere. It would have been better if they had just told us right away that they were full and didn't have room rather than squishing us into a tiny space. read more

There is an outdoor patio area but that is less trendy in winter time so the pub just gets packed. They have live music, which I like, but I find it a touch loud for the size of the place. Typical me to spend Canada Day dining at an Irish Pub, but what can I say....I loves me a pint of Guinness. Boyfriend, and I took our friends here because as we all know, pub type restaurants are great for the myriad of pallets one faces when multiple people cant make up their minds. It's been about 10 years since I ate here, and I am happy to say that it was a very pleasant experience. I had the Turkey, Brie and Strawberry Sandwich with a side salad, which was fresh and delicious (turkey was real and not processed)...what would make it even better, is to have a choice of breads instead of sourdough....With all the healthy goodness in this particular sandwich, it seems a shame to throw it all away with sourdough. I just can't put my finger on it... The St. James Pub in Port Moody's New Port Village is the manic depression pub of all the ones I've visited. One day it's so good you leave the restaurant singing and spinning around on joy filled heels like Julie Andrews in the hills of Mondsee Austria, the next time you go, you're spewing a hideous, gaseous verbally abusive rant aimed at the chef who you sneakily suspect may be a rouge line cook from a neighboring fast food freak show on loan to purposely mess with your taste buds. I don't get it. I love the St. James Burger. The combination of fresh vegetables and secret sauce with their uniquely spiced lean hamburger meat is hands down the best burger in any pub. Their hot wings are any level you want them. Their mushroom caps are truly magical. Their butternut squash soup is so thick and creamy and rich you won't be sorry you sacrificed a calm evening for the runs. The best thing on the menu is their strawberry, brie and turkey (real turkey!) sandwich. If you have a chance to go there, order this sandwich. You won't be disappointed... Unless you hit the place on a day it doesn't take its medication. I've had the above on days when the St. James Burger tasted like it came from a cow living on the salt plains of Tulsa Oklahoma. When the mushroom caps left you with an illusion of good taste. When the only thing the strawberry, brie, turkey sandwich "gobbled" up was my money, leaving my "wattle" dangling in disbelief.
