My family and I have been seeing Dr Mahroo Mofarrahi for our dental care for nearly 10 years now. I cannot say enough wonderful things about her and her amazing team, Helen and Rosie. From the moment I walk in, Helen and Rosie always greet me with such warmth. They make the entire experience feel welcoming and stress-free. The office runs incredibly smoothly, and they always take the time to explain everything clearly and kindly. Dr Mofarrahi is truly exceptional, knowledgeable, gentle and incredibly attentive. She is meticulous with her work yet so reassuring throughout the entire process. I always feel completely cared for and confident that I'm in the best hands. My mom is a patient here she is 92 yrs old. Her Doctor is absolutely lovely. Helen with scheduling is awful to deal with. My mom was referred out to have a tooth extracted. Then after this my mom now needs a partial denture. She is on Medicare and dental plan did not cover the denture. This occurred October 2024 my mom. I told Helen we would call when new plan is set. My mom now has the same dental insurance just a better plan to cover the denture. I called in December Helen said she would send Paperwork to the insurance company. It would take up to 4 weeks for authorization.Then yesterday I called Helen said (I told you I need the group number for new insurance. She told me. I called Liberty Dental spoke to Margaret and she and I agreed Helen should have submitted the paperwork in December. This was an attempt to delay mom's care. Margaret is taking care of it and had Helen submit the paperwork today. read more

First of all, the Dental Hygienist is excellent but . . .. Office Experience has been terrible and this is why . . . 1. The main problem is that their office policy is that they will not book in advance any teeth cleaning until a few weeks before you are due for a 6-month cleaning. Then, you will find out for one reason or another that you won't get an appointment until 7 months (or more) from your last visit. I have been a regular at the place and every four or five years, I am unable to get two appointments in a given calendar year (which I am covered for) because of the booking problems stated above. 2. The other problem is personal. The dentist (Dr. Mahroo Mofarrahi) appears to be intolerant of elderly people like myself who do not quite understand their "Woke" policies. This week, I entered their office and spoke to their receptionist and I was discussing why I could not get any earlier appointment after having waiting over 4 months and now I was told, the earliest app't I could make was March 29, 2024 which was 7 (not 6 months) from my last appointment. And then something happened next to me in the waiting room which was right next to the receptionist. I heard very loud voices directly behind me and I could not hear a word was trying to explain the above mention policies. I turned around and gestured to ask that the loud talking be quieted. A few minutes later the Dentist approached me and accused me of "Sshing" her (did I say loud?) conversation with her visitor. And then accused me of losing a potential patient. She (the dentist) was furious and announced that I would be struck off her list. I tried to explain that I was trying to have a conversation with "your gal" at the receptionist area. Now, the dentist doubled down on her fury and accused me of using (the apparently "unwoke" term "gal". After apologizing to the receptionist and to the dentist, I asked the latter if we could talk about it and "Guess What", she "Sshed" me for talking to her. Needless to say, I left and felt I was abused for my being elderly and not woke enough for her. I could not sleep that night thinking about how I was treated. Today, I felt I should comment using the Yelp review. By the way, I believe the patient left not because of my "Sshing" but because he later witnessed my discussing with the receptionist about the Dental Office's booking policies. read more

I had the unique opportunity to have the same procedure done twice; first unsuccessfully by another dentist and then, fortunately, success with much better service, professionalism, and care at San Antonio Dental by Dr. Justin Nguyen. Please note there are two different dentists at this location with the same common last name. This review is for Dr. Justin Nguyen. He is particularly good for someone who likes to be greeted and treated politely and made aware of procedures before they occur, as well as what to expect (both feeling-wise and cost-wise). He excels at communicating what he is about to do and then with the utmost care, implementing those actions while maintaining a keen awareness of how you're reacting and your comfort level. This degree of attention, of course, takes time and the detail in explaining is excellent for someone who is curious and appreciates being informed. For someone who does not enjoy visiting the dentist and has extra sensitivities, it also makes such dental visits more pleasant. There is a sense of trust and comfort in this level of care. Additionally, Dr. Nguyen exhibits the foresight to consider your time and the best way to plan efficiently for you; that may translate to scheduling further out in order to have one visit instead of two or him and his staff staying after hours because it's the only way to consolidate your visits and complete all the procedures in a timely manner. I had a direct comparison with another dentist who did not plan or think ahead in this way, which required multiple instances of me taking time off work for unproductive visits. The front desk receptionist was friendly to me and one of his staff voluntarily stayed after hours to assist with a procedure which ran long to ensure Dr. Nguyen had the assistance necessary to be most efficient with my procedure. I think this show of loyalty and teamwork speaks to Dr. Nguyen's admirable work ethic and care for patients. Although the office building and facilities are not the newest, there isn't Netflix to watch at each dental chair or tea while you wait or toys for your kids, when compared with the service alone of other dentists, Dr. Nguyen wins. I've honestly not had a better experience with any other dentist. I highly recommend him. read more

I'm pretty angry about my experience this morning so I decide to write it down. I'm not a frequent reviewer, but if things go really good or really bad, I will come here and tell everyone. Unfortunately, today's experience is the really bad one. I would give minus star if it is possible. My appointment is at 9am for teeth cleaning and filling. I arrived on time but the clinic was still closed even though it was supposed to open at 9. After about 5 minutes later, one assistant arrived and opened the door for me. She is pretty nice, she kept apologizing to me and get me prepared pretty quickly. Then I began my long journey of waiting for the doctor to show up. After another 15 minutes, at around 9:20am, I was told the doctor was in traffic and should arrive in 10 - 15 minutes. I was already a little annoyed at that time because I was expecting to finish the procedures at around 9:45am and I will be back to office at around 10am. But I think I will continue waiting since I already sit there for a while and if the doctor can show up in 10 minutes, I can still be at office before 10:30am. Then another 15 minutes passed, the doctor was still nowhere to be seen. What the heck, I mean, I understand morning traffic is terrible, but why cannot Mr. Doctor start earlier in the morning?? Your clinic is supposed to open at 9, if you cannot make it, DO NOT make 9 am appointment for patients. I also understand morning time is tight, but PLEASE notice not only your time is precious, client's time also is. I woke up early this morning to get my appointment done, but instead I just wasted almost an hour sitting there doing nothing. I could have had more sleep, or do exercise, anything better than waiting in a clinic. An assistant contacted doctor again, and the doctor claimed again he will be at office in another 10 minutes, also he said he did not have enough time to do the teeth cleaning for me, he can only do teeth filling...WTF? Because of your delay, I have to make another appointment and come again?? seriously? do you really expect a patient would do something like that? Do you have too many patients so you want to get rid of someone? And why only do teeth filling not cleaning? is it because teeth cleaning is free but teeth filling is not free? I don't think I can wait anymore so I just left. It is really the worst experience I ever had. Assistants are nice, they keep apologizing to me but I don't think this doctor is a decent man, and he is not worth to be your dentist. read more

Doctor/staff shows up late. I came in for a general cleaning, no x-Rays. His assistants don't look like they cared to be there or even care about working. I wasn't going to write a yelp review but after I received my bill from my dental insurance. They charged my insurance for "Complete Series of Radiographic images." This could have been a careless mistake, but when my mother came in for cleaning the week before, they turned her away almost immediately do to needing clearance from her heart doctor. The issue was they charged her insurance for a consultation... Sounds like fraudulent billing to me. read more

Worst cleaning I've ever had. No hygienists, the dentist does it, and they are in a hurry. They use a water blaster instead of tools. It hurts and splashes in your eyes. They don't worry about the patient wearing goggles. They hang one of those hook suctions in your mouth. Pretty archaic. The whole thing takes 20 minutes and I left feeling no different than I came in, except a little sore. Yeah, they're nice. Big deal. They missed some issues I know I need taken care of, and they talk to you like you're incapable of understanding your own care. A little condescending and patriarchal I think. AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE!! The dentist who saw me was very nice and very knowledgeable, he was able to spot a problem that had been bugging me for years, a problem other dentists never could find. However the admin staff is rude and basically useless... I called twice and sent an email regarding getting a copy of my records and still have not gotten a response. They never answered the email (why put an email address on your website if you aren't going to check it?) If you guys read this, WHERE ARE MY RECORDS!!!!??? I want them NOW!! UPDATE 1/17/14: 2 more phone calls, another email, 2 more weeks... no records. Now they are saying it's because my dentist wont be in until Feb. 8th... THAT'S BS! Get me my records, or you are going to have a LAWSUIT on your hands! Apparently they consider HIPAA to be suggestions and not requirements!!! These people are borderline criminal. read more

Obstinate and ignorant. I never got a chance to even see this dentist because the receptionist might be the least effective employee I've encountered in my life. I am judging this business entirely on their complete inability to see a new patient. Let that be known that I am giving a sort of half-review, in that sense. I broke a molar last week. I moved to a new location and had to switch dentists. My insurance suggested many places, I tried this one. I called and they said first to switch my insurance over to them before they could even answer any of my questions. I did so. I called and tried to make an appointment. They told me to send my X-rays over by mail. I said I couldn't wait that long because my tooth is broken and I'd like it to not be broken anymore. They told me to get my x-rays emailed to them. So I do that. I call and receive no response twice and leave two messages. Neither were answered. I call again and let them know I have been trying to make an appointment for a week now because I broke and tooth. I told them I emailed my x-rays. I was told the files couldn't be opened. I asked what files can the office use? Instead of being given an answer, I was told again, "just mail them directly." It really shouldn't be that hard to understand that snail mail is the least efficient means of information transfer especially when I'm trying to make my day-to-day eating routine not suck. The place is unprofessional, idiotic, and completely void of forethought. I could have avoided all these steps if I'd been told from the first phone call what I needed to do. I'm never going to use this dentist because the receptionist tries her absolute best to make certain no new customers come in. Good luck. read more

I called in for an emergency and they took me in right away and was able to temporarily fix my problem that day and scheduled me back another day to fix the problem more permanently. The receptionists on the phone were borderline rude and very unhelpful. Unfortunately this appears to be one of the more favorable rated dental offices my HMO offers. The receptionist told me she couldn't find me in her system and said to call my insurance provider and fax them back a copy of my insurance. I can go to my insurance provider's website and find myself listed. Any time I've been to a dental office the staff always handled any paperwork issues directly with my insurance provider... I'm really turned off by the receptionist, but I hope the dentist will make up for it. read more

Got recommended some filings as a new patient. But decided to first start with a cleaning: I was surprised to find a dentist doing the cleaning rather than a assistant. Also they skip standard cleaning procedure steps like measuring gum pocket depth - it's more of a vigorous brushing with professional tools. Once home, I realized one of my pre-existing fillings feel different on my tongue. In a few weeks realized the dentist must damaged (I have a feeling intentionally) so I would come back to have to fix it. QUACK DENTISTS DRUMMING UP BUSINESS WITH FRAUDULENT PRACTICES! When I first moved to California eight years ago, I had just finished college and I knew that I was due for a dental appointment. San Antonio Dental was across the street, and through a sheer stroke of blind luck, I picked well. I will note they are a 'no-frills' dentist, i.e., no nitrous oxide, a spartan waiting room, and semi-open workstations. They are probably more reasonably priced than other Bay Area dentists. But I go to the dentist for the dentist's skill, not the magazines. My first visits were as pleasant as can be, if you can call six deep cavities, lots of drilling and filling, and enough novocaine to put down a horse pleasant. But Dr. Huang is a total pro about these procedures, and after the carnage of the first few visits, the semi-annual teeth cleanings are done precisely and painlessly. She's also very good (and polite) at telling you what you're doing wrong, such as eating pineapple in the morning without brushing (major cavities there), not brushing the rear teeth well, and not flossing. I have since corrected my horrid dental care practices, and for the last several visits I leave with clean teeth, no cavities, and a smile on my face for a having another good teeth report card. read more

We were patients of Dr. Steven Lin and he was great. He no longer works out of San Antonio Dental. However, instead of giving me his forwarding information, San Antonio Dental told me he had been in an accident and didn't know when he was going to be able to return to work, asking us to switch to one of their other dentists. ( Edit: This has been noted to have been a miscommunication by San Antonio Dental. ) (Edit: Since posting this review, it has been communicated that there was some miscommunication from San Antonio Dental to their customers in regards to Dr. Steven Lin.) San Antonio Dental is a fine dentistry operation with a great staff. However, for folks looking for the great care that Steven Lin was providing, he is currently with El Camino Dental, based in Mountain View, CA. San Antonio Dental was the closest dental location that my insurance carrier covers so I decided to give them a try. Decor/Reception: 1 star The place smells like a dental office. White walls with a few magazines on the rack. Doesn't feel very sterile, as you'd hope a dental office would be. Also not very welcoming - the receptionists that answer the phone are quite rude. This place needs a major make-over in order for patients to feel relaxed and pleasant about a trip to the dentist. Also, I wasn't seen by the doctor until 45 minutes after my scheduled appointment time. They need to change the way they double or triple book patients. Dentist Steven Lin: 5 star Dr. Lin was great. He was very welcoming and explained to me in detail how a filling is done. I had to get 2 new filings because the old ones were getting a bit lose. He brought in a model of fake teeth with fillings and showed me how and where they would go. The procedure went well, I did not feel any pain at all. Throughout the entire procedure, Dr. Lin regularly asked me if I was doing OK. He was really gentle with me and I did not hate the dentist as I would normally. Now if only they can do something about those loud drilling noises.... read more

I would give Dr. Lin 5 stars, but for the receptionist I had to take one away.... Honestly the receptionists would only get 0-1 stars. Particularly the asian one. Everyone else is very sweet and welcoming. The office is nothing spectacular but a great dentist makes up for that! =] I haven't been to a dentist in a looooooooooooong time ( doesn't help that I'm deathly afraid of dentists) so I was super nervous my first visit. Dr. Lin was very patient in explaining what my options were and answering all my questions. I've always been embarrased about my teeth and I didn't feel like he was judging me. Kind of like limbo. Not so bad, not so good. Dentist was professional, not very talkative but not cold either. Assistants were efficient, but lots of waiting around. Walked in at 11am and walked out at 12:15pm... And it wasn't too busy. Administrative staff wasn't great. No itemized receipt of what I was paying for, just told verbally. Huh? Really? Upon my request, they said they could mail it to me. And no reminder for next check up offered so I asked for it and she dug around and gave me a reminder postcard without eye contact. Hmmmm. This was probably the best trip I have ever had to the dentist that I can remember. I had 2 trips, 1 for a cleaning & 1 for fillings. Both times the receptionists were super friendly. Both times I was seen at my appointment times with minimal wait time. Typically, it is painful which is probably why I have avoided going for years. My cleaning was pain free! Dr. Nguyen did a fantastic job! It was nice to not leave with a sore mouth & bleeding gums. I had a few fillings that needed to be done & Dr. Nguyen again pulled through. I recently switched to San Antonio Dental because I did not trust my previous dentist from Silicon Valley Dental. I go to dentist twice a year and I know my teeth and gums are fine; however, Silicon Valley Dental told me that I have 7 cavities and periodontal disease. I switched to San Antonio Dental to get a second opinion. Dr. Chu, very nice and knowledgeable, told me that I had four small cavities and my gums are fine. He explained to me exactly what I need to get done and why. Also, he did not push me to buy random services that I didn't feel comfortable about. The dentist was super thorough (which I love) and took the time to show me my x-rays and explain them as well as show me some pictures of my teeth and explain that some of my old fillings could be touched up if I wanted. He wasn't at all opinionated in his explanation, but I scheduled an appointment for that right away. (That's just my personality). My only complaint is that there's no bike parking! read more

Do not go to this dental practice if trustworthiness is something you value in a dentist. I visited because I recently changed jobs and they told me that I need to get a filling done (not a cavity) because I had bitten something hard that had cracked my enamel. I was suspicious of this because this was my first visit at San Antonio Dental. I had been with my previous dentist for 3 years and this issue had never come up. Also, I rarely eat hard foods and I didn't recall any eating experience where I might have damaged my enamel. They said it would cost a little over $100 out of pocket, so I said I wanted to get a second opinion. Not wanting me to leave, they immediately said "OK, how about if we charge it to a palliative account, so you don't have to pay out of pocket?" I also thought this was suspicious - if you can just charge another account, why not offer that up front, as an option? It seemed like this was standard operating procedure - first see if the patient agrees to pay out-of-pocket, then offer to charge a different account if they won't. I regret to say that I agreed to get the filling done. Later, I received a claim from Delta Dental with charges for procedures on a date that I didn't even come into San Antonio Dental's office. The claim was for a radiographic image and treatment of dental pain - neither of which I had done on the one day I visited the office. I called San Antonio Dental to ask what this claim was for, and they said it was to cover the out-of-pocket charge for the above mentioned procedure. Basically, they made bogus charges to Delta Dental (which reduces my benefits money) as part of pressuring me to do a procedure that was probably not necessary. On my part, I should have clarified what account they were planning to charge. At the same time, they didn't offer the information. But the bottom line is that given that I can't grow new teeth, trust is really important in my choice of dentist and trust is definitely not what I have in San Antonio Dental. Dr. Toai Nguyen's dental office is like a zoo. I was new to Dr. Nguyen's practice. After initial examination, I was scheduled to have him treat three cavities at 12 noon on Nov. 12, 2014. On the previous day, Nov. 11, I called his office to ask how long the treatment would take. The answer was one hour. However, on Nov. 12, after Dr. Toai Nguyen applied anesthetic in my mouth, he disappeared. When he finally appeared, it was about one hour later at 12:55. Since I could not talk because of the anesthetic, I wrote to ask him why I needed to wait for so long. He answered that another patient needed two to three hours of time for treatment so he had to keep me wait to continue treating this other patient. From the way Dr. Nguyen explained the situation, it appeared that it was simply part of his practice that he leaves his patients in the middle of treatment. However, since none of the dentists I had before left me in the middle of treatment, not to mention for nearly an hour by Dr. Nguyen, I sincere wish that people are made aware of Dr. Nguyen's peculiar way of treating his patients before committing their body and time to Dr. Nguyen's practice. read more

I have never seen the Dentist here, but my dad goes here and the Dentist that he saw (Dr. Lin) is really nice. There is another dentist but I forgot his name, he is also very nice. The 5 star of my review is for Sylvia. She works at the front desk. She is SOOOOO nice and helpful and professional!! She remembers me every time I call for my dad. Seriously, Sylvia has been so kind and she is the most helpful person I have ever dealt with. I am thinking about going here just because of her. What a wonderful person to have on your team San Antonio Dental! P.S. I always ask for Sylvia because she has been more than wonderful!! Had a small dental emergency, decided to give them a try as they're close to my work and listed with my insurance. Shows up for the first 8AM appointment as I needed to get the dental work done as quickly as possible. First off, the office didn't open at 8AM. After waiting for about 15 minutes, somebody finally comes to unlock the door. Then, I had to wait around in the chair for another 40 minutes or so, only to be informed that the dentist "has some other urgent issue" and cannot make it. So I basically wasted an hour of my valuable work time. Worst experience ever. I'm now looking for another dentist and regretting the fact that I picked dental HMO over preferred care. read more

Their policy, which they won't budge on, is that you first have to make an appointment for a exam and x-rays. You then have to make ANOTHER appointment for a cleaning. I was trying to book an appointment but that's as far as I got. The girl answering phones was rude and very unhelpful. She asked me to call back in two weeks to booked an appointment. when I asked why, she said it was because that's when she would receive her roster. ?!?!? I have never heard of a dentist office or medical office asking to call back when it's convenient to them. Later I asked my insurance to faxed them the necessary paper work so that she wouldn't have to wait for this roster. When I called again she claimed she never received it and gave me silence.
