It's like magic! Previously I have visited five doctors (in Evanston, IL, in LAX, California, in China) about my bad-quality crown because of sensitivity, all of them just checked for 5 minutes and said I need to do the root canal. I was suspicious of my old dentist, because I have a lot of dental work and a long history of bad teeth, yet they never found any issues and just pushed visalign and whitening. Dr. Le is special. She uses an intra-oral camera and she conducts the cleaning herself, instead of farming that out to a specialist. As a result, she found an area that looked concerning, and she even showed me the picture using the intra-oral camera. "Very minor" she said, but we should take a closer look and see what's underneath. And so we did. Today, she found tons of decay underneath that suspicious filling. Again, she showed me a picture during the procedure so I could see how bad it was. You'd never know that little teeny tiny mark she found in the first exam was covering so much decay. The xray certainly didn't show it. I just returned from the procedure and I couldn't be happier! She really took her time in getting all the decay out (which she also showed me!) and she made sure I was comfortable. I almost fell asleep! I would have lost that tooth without Dr. Le's keen observation. I recommend her highly and strangely, look forward to seeing her again. :-0 read more

I really like them. My dentist, Dr Anh (not sure I am spelling it correctly) is very nice and friendly. She is always very gentle and does a great work on my teeth :-E She knows and remembers her clients very well, which is always pleasant. They don't try to add too many "fixes"! Indeed... My previous dentist told me I would need 3 crowns! The bill amount would have cost me the British Crown! (sorry I had to made this joke). So I went to this dentist without telling what the previous one had said... and the answer was "One crown could be done, but it is not urgent". Since then, 2 years now... Woo hoo!! I'm so happy I finally found a dentist I love and will come back on a regular basis! I had 12 cavities! =X I went back 3 separate times to get them all removed and filled. I was really nervous for the first set because they were the largest and closest to my nerves. My teeth were sore for almost 2 weeks, but now it's completely fine. Phewww I was relieved that I didn't need a root canal! The next couple times I went back for the other cavities went really smoothly. Nothing hurt at all! Yelp comes through for me once again! A persistent toothache had been bothering me for over a week, which I thought was a loose 7-year-old filling, and when I couldn't take it anymore I logged in here, found the reviews for Shoreline Dental & Dr. Jennifer Lam, and I am SO glad it did. While my filling did turn out to have developed a bit of a gap, the real problem turned out to be a huge cavity in the adjacent tooth. Dr. Lam replaced the old filling, and placed a new one in the other cavity. Throughout the entire procedure she was as kind, gentle, and considerate as one could hope, and I experienced ZERO pain. Her way of administering the anasthetic was such that I never felt the needle at all, and she asked me if I was doing OK throughout the treatment more than all the other dentists I've seen in my life combined. The staff there is every bit as great as she is, too. This was hands-down the best experience I've ever had with a dentist. read more

I've been going here for over a year for just cleaning and was content with the job they did. Recently x-rays showed some cavities in both sides of my mouth in between the teeth. They tried to show me them on the computer but I couldn't tell what they were but I went ahead anyways and got the left side of my mouth worked on. I haven't had any cavities in years so I was surprised. The problem I had was that I was in the chair for over 100 minutes with a very uncomfortable mouth "rest" in my mouth. I didn't expect to be there so long and the chair was very narrow so my shoulders started to hurt after the first hour as well as my mouth after so much time from the "rest". My hands also couldnt rest anywhere when the back was reclined all the way down so I had trouble with finding a comfortable place to put them. When the "rest" was finally removed my jaw was so sore I couldn't bite down without wincing. By the time the fillings were being put in I was dizzy with pain and could barely get up from the chair to leave. I've never been in such discomfort at a visit in my life. Recommend if you go to have a smallish frame (I'm 5'10" 190lbs) and ask for breaks. read more

I was recommended to this place by a friend, I need to thank them for that recommendation. For me, going to the dentist has always been sort of a miserable experience. I pretty much hate it. Thanks to a combination of that and a lack of dental insurance while in college, I hadn't been in over 4 years. I had to get a bunch of fillings with them. Today I got my wisdom teeth yanked there and while I'm lying around bored and in recovery, I feel inclined to write a review. Shoreline Dental does a good job of trying to make the experience less miserable. The only negatives here are the nature of going to the dentist, no fault of the staff or facilities, and perhaps that they have limited times when the oral surgeon fellow comes in. Though, it is sort of bizarre that they speak in a foreign language (Vietnamese, I think?) to each other while operating on you. Sort of nice, though, to not hear all the medical details of your mouth. Pros: Staff are amazingly nice and attentive! I was completely shocked when only on my second visit, my dentist noticed that I had gotten my hair cut since my last visit! Whenever I go in for fillings (or when I got my teeth out), they're constantly checking to make sure I'm ok. Facilities are very clean and nicely decorated in a contemporary style. No 80s-esque decor here. Great selection of up-to-date magazines! :D Staff are very good about getting you to schedule appointments if you're like me and want to avoid those fillings and stuff as long as possible. Wisdom-tooth-yanking is very quick, though I don't think they knock anyone out, just use local anesthetic. They take Delta Dental PPO. While you can't get rid of your own dislike of tooth-grinding and yanking and everything, you can go with people who care about what they do and are very friendly. read more

I am finally happy with the dentist that I do have. The doctor is very friendly and warm. She also cares about you vs. money as she delayed my X rays this year since my teeth are doing well. In addition she lets you know how much things cost prior to doing anything. I had my fillings recently and already knew how much the co pay was prior to getting it done. She also said there was no rush to do it but hey it's not that expensive why not? So she doesn't pressure you for any procedures. When you get your teeth cleaned they ask you several times if you are okay, I swear I've not had this kind of treatment in the past! They just rush you in and out. In addition, they are PROMPT and I was seen on time all the times I've been there. They also call you to remind you of your appointment so there's no way you can forget. Based on Shoreline's other glowing reviews, I'm sure others will wholeheartedly agree. I needed some complicated dental work this past year, and Dr. Lam dedicated her time and expertise to create lasting solutions to difficult problems. I was repeatedly amazed at the depth of her knowledge, skills, and resourcefulness as she combined advanced procedures and techniques that made permanent, like-new improvements. Not only that, but she stayed within her initial cost estimate even though I required more appointments and much more work than originally expected. She was determined, patient, and considerate, and simply would not stop until each repair was perfect. I have great appreciation for Shoreline Dental's office staff as well. They have a low standard of care. Cleanings are not thorough at all; they don't even scrape. After a few years of going here and getting suspicious that they're not very good, I went elsewhere and got very clear pictures of festering problems that Shoreline happily ignored. They're not very good at communicating with me - their dentists are very quiet (in a loud environment) and their English isn't great. This was the worst dentist experience I've ever had. I scheduled an appointment to address specific, visible concerns about my teeth and gums. I asked about this multiple times throughout the appointment and the dentist repeated eight times that I need to improve my flossing technique. It was as though she didn't understand what I was asking and resorted to being a broken record player. She was extremely soft spoken and didn't ever explain why this new flossing technique was the best solution for resolving my concerns. On top of that, the xray equipment was broken during my visit and thus I needed to schedule a second appointment just for xrays. For that appointment, they didn't seem to understand why I was there, started prodding at my teeth, and then I reminded them that I was there for xrays. I decided to see another dentist to address my concerns and I'm thankful that I didn't settle for believing that some new flossing technique would solve my problems. As it turns out, my concerns were valid and actually need to be addressed by a gum specialist. Had I stayed with Shoreline Dental, my teeth would have been in far worse shape thanks to them ignoring my concerns -- concerns that turned out to be a legit problem. Avoid Shoreline Dental: they're poor listeners and don't provide trustworthy advice and dental care. read more

I am very picky with my dentists and always ask for references before I visit a new one. Since I moved to the Bay Area just a year ago, I neglected a bit my dental care and did not have time to look for one. A friend recommended me going to Dr. Jennifer Lam and I could only say that she makes you feel super comfortable as well as her assistant who took care of my cleaning and I left with super shiny teeth. Dr. Lam is not only super gentle and relaxing, but also very professional, not trying to pressure you to do any treatment like at many other places. She showed me my x-rays and also pictures (first time I see my gums in big image, yuck;) and gave me advice on how to treat some minor issues. I already schedule my next appointment to take care of these little retouches I need because of the nice approach. The office girls are also very efficient, I got punctual, they were super punctual as well and once I left the dentist chair, I already had an estimate of what to do and how much it will cost me. This is a pretty fancy dental office. The staff are very sweet and friendly. They actually gave me sunglasses to wear before turning on the lamp. (Yes, the sunglasses are big and ugly, but a very nice touch regardless.) So why the two stars? They tried to sell me on replacing my amalgam fillings with epoxy. The stated reason wasn't that the fillings are toxic (which they may well be), but that they're falling apart and need to be replaced. The dentist came in and told me this before even looking in my mouth, when I hadn't been there in six months. They didn't even give me any brochures or other information before trying to sign me up for an appointment. I eventually got a "dental materials fact sheet" (which is a publication of the Dental Board of California) and a second opinion that my fillings are fine. I haven't been back to Shoreline Dental since. read more

Three years of going here and I'm never disappointed. They are not above giving a patient a no-nonsense attitude about taking care of your teeth if that's what it takes, but it is done in a professional way. Doctors do a thorough job of checking my mouth, cleaning, and keeping to a set schedule of x-rays. I've also had some minor cavity work done, and it's all been good. They are also very good about answering questions about insurance and costs and showing you the true cost of everything before your insurance is billed. My wife needed a little more major work done last year and I didn't know about the practice of billing for maximum before the insurance company gives the allowed discounts. So my initial statement of $900 from the insurance company actually came down to a payment of under $300, which they understood and explained. read more

I had a really good experience here. The physical layout of the office really works nicely - each dental chair is in an individual "room" with 3 walls, so it feels private. They have lots of fun technology, like cameras they can use to show you things as they work. Dr. Lam was really professional and calming, and she totally took it in stride when I was a bit nervous about getting my fillings done. One cavity was bigger than she first thought and she stopped to let me know there was some chance this would be an issue, what the two options would be, and got my buy-in before continuing. Was able to schedule an appointment within a week and the switch was easy since they had access to my wife's insurance information. Dr. Lam was great! I just switched dentists to Shoreline Dental and have Dr. Lee. I had a pleasant experience here. I originally made an appointment for a cleaning and then asked if I could get a cavity filled that was bothering me, they ended up filling two the same day! They close at 6pm but ended up staying until about 7pm just for me which I thought was absolutely great of them and showed that they really care about their patients. I've been a patient of Shoreline dental for many years. It hasn't been easy to find a right dentist. But both Dr. Hanh Le and Dr. Young Chen are very gentle and honest. They always take the time to explain to me exactly what procedure I need to have done. Dr. Chen fixed a root cannel re-treatment for two of my teeth. He is very skillful!! I trust them, which is most important thing for me. The receptionist Janelle, is also always clear in her explanations of the cost before any surgery. Her work is very fast as well.
