There have been some crazy things that have happened in these parts and the MCS media page shares much of it! So find them on Facebook. The employees here are always super nice. When my daughters and I stopped here in July 2024, they had a new Tabby shop cat that they adopted from Ruidoso. My lovely T-mobile cell phone service does not work well in this area. If you're camping in the area, this little store has some awesome finds at reasonable prices. Plus, they sell stuff like jerky and fudge. Hope the owner is doing okay since her major injury/hospitalization.

I usually stop here for refueling (surprisingly lower cost than some) my car and refueling myself with drinks & snacks when I'm traveling from Santa Rosa, NM (1-40) to El Paso, TX on US 54. It's about 1/2 way between those two points. If you need some gas, you really need to stop here before you go on too long because there's literally nothing here and Alamogordo about 60 miles away on US 54 unless you're willing to make a stop in Ruidoso or Cloudcroft really out of your way (and why would you do that when you're running low on your gas?). The bathrooms are clean, and the store is well stocked with all the normal snacks, drinks, water, ice cream, and automotive needs, etc. Customer service is good here.

They have been lovingly painted with scenes of the local town. Oh what an honor to be painted on a dumpster! The store is kinda gritty and dirty. The lights flicker on and off like some sort of zombie movie around here. The place does keep busy at all hours though. They sell most everything you need up in here. Beer, burritos, bubble gum- you name it- they got it. I'm not a big fan of Allsup's gas- it's only 86 octane and up to 10% ethanol. I don't want all that- it's like gas lite. The clerk was friendly and seemed happy to be there and was more than willing to assist.

So we had to detour, adding hours to our already long road trip. We were tired, we were hungry, and we were paranoid to stop during a pandemic. But you have to tinkle, get gas, and get snacks, especially when your trip randomly gets longer. So, we pulled into Steer Stop. Let me tell you: I have never seen a cleaner restroom anywhere. It was like using the restroom in someone's home, that has just been professionally cleaned. My mom and I were so thankful!! They also had a lot of good food. Not just snacks and junk. They had real, honest to goodness, food. I got carrot chips to snack on, since I hadn't had any veggies all day. I was just so impressed with this convenience store, so far off the beaten path, that someone would put so much care into this. The woman working was wonderful, she just beamed from behind her mask when I told her how much I appreciated her clean restroom and healthy fare. I love when people take pride in their work - there wasn't any where we stopped during that trip that was better or nicer!
