    SAPA adopted pitbull puppy!!

I recently adopted a pitbull puppy through SAPA, while I love what they stand for and have personally seen the positive impact they have had on animals lives... the process for adoption can be a tricky one, especially for first time pet owners. If you do decide to adopt with them just know emailing is better than calling, if your animal is not neutered/spayed SAPA legally must have the procedure done before you adopt, and finalizing and the paperwork to receive the depot $ back won't be overnight. Other than that, I have a perfectly healthy and happy puppy. Thank you you guys.

Prices on Pet's Alive website (also posted on their campus).

I adopted two animals through Pet's Alive, one dog (7 months at the time of adoption) and another dog (4 months at the time of adoption). I paid $175 for the dog that was 7 months old and $200 for the dog that was 4 months old. Pet's alive have their prices publicly displayed, I've posted the photo below so as you can see I over paid for the dog of 7 months. When I returned to the location to ask why I was overcharged, it didn't really seem like anyone had an answer until a woman said "he was cute so we marked his price up" and that's the ONLY explanation that I was given. I wasn't able to get a better answer nor was I given the option to get the money back that they overcharged me. They also don't answer their phones or emails.

Even though they gave me a map, it would be so easy to just have a stake in the ground that identified the buildings like building B. If it wasn't for the friendly staff and volunteers I would have been even more lost. How could you not support this place and its commitment to animals? It's obvious they could use some financial support and renovation but the point is they are caring and loving our beautiful creatures big and small. The main parking lot in front has a drop off area for donations. You have enter the building and sign in before seeing the animals for adoption. There's a little gift shop in front and all the staff are super friendly. Most of the viewing areas are outside and not easily handicapped accessible. They have a newer facility across from the zoo, but this one you can tell is where the love started. Come visit and support please.

The costs are significantly lower than going to a private vet. Wednesday hadn't had her shots so they were included in the costs. The only thing extra I paid was for a nail trim which she desperately needed. I think I paid about $130 total. The website has clear instructions of what's required. We signed in just after 0730. The staff was pleasant and kind, we were asked to return between 1500 and 1600 to pick up our fur babies. The process was smooth & efficient. They gave clear discharge instructions and provided the needed meds. We are post op day 4 and she's healing well so far. She was high strung pre surgery and very chill now. I'm glad we went this route with her. This place was amazing.

Eden Animal Sanctuary - Manfred, homecoming!

Anyone that has known me for any length of time knows that chelonians (broad way to group turtles…read moreand tortoises together... they're different, people!) are my spirit animal, and I've wanted one as a pet for a very very very long time. After a lot of research about all things tortoise and acquiring/assembling my set up, I decided that just buying a tortoise from a store wasn't an option. It was captive bred or adoption. A captive bred situation didn't work out and I stumbled upon Eden Animal Sanctuary (and Manfred!) with a Craig's List search. They're a chelonian specific rescue that operates on a private property. They rehabilitate surrendered turtles/tortoises and find the PERFECT homes for them, if they're considered adoptable. Filled out an "I'm interested" form on AdoptAPet.com and FB messaged the sanctuary (https://www.facebook.com/edenanimalsanctuary), letting them know that I'd submitted the form. Rachel responded to my message within minutes, sending me the adoption application and asking for pictures of my set up. The application was long and very thorough. I was a little nervous filling it out, even though I knew that Manfred belonged with me and that I could give him an amazing life (and that I'm going to have to put him in my will because he will likely outlive me). Then the waiting began. I was anxiously prepared to wait over a weekend (as I'd sent in the application on a Thursday evening), but, on Friday afternoon, I received an email saying that I'd been approved! I may or may not have danced around like an idiot for the rest of the day. Just kidding, I totally did. The following Saturday, a couple friends and I made our way to an adoption event in Spring Branch, where the rescue had a presence. I had no difficulty ignoring all the adoptable dogs (not usually the case with me) at the event as I made my way to the turtle/tortoise table. I knew it was my Manfred the moment I saw him. I chatted with Rachel a little bit and filled out his adoption form, promising to return him to the sanctuary if I could no longer care for him. I was also able to meet a couple of the other chelonians from the rescue, including a teenaged sulcata named Radar and three box turtles. I paid my adoption fee (donations and adoption fees go towards building habitats and caring for the chelonians) and skipped away with my new, best reptile buddy. All in all, I can't recommend Eden Animal Sanctuary enough. It's obvious to me that Rachel loves what she does and loves the animals even more.
