I called in because my daughter was in pain in the back of her jaw due to her wisdom teeth. They assured me that they could take care of her that evening. I did not expect that anyone would pull out her teeth that evening. I just wanted them to xray that area and make sure that's what it was, and to give a referral to a specialist if needed. They took her in and insisted on xraying all her teeth with the vinyl ones you have to hold in place in multiple tooth areas. They then sat her in the chair and began cleaning all of her teeth including the very back molars next to where wisdom teeth are located. She was in tears at this point waiting for the dentist to review the xrays. She came over and stated there were no cavities, see you in six months. I was very confused at this point because I stated wisdom teeth on the phone, said it again when we came in and when they insisted on cleaning the teeth when she was in pain. The dentist then told me that they do not have the ability to xray the wisdom teeth area, that is a panoramic xray machine that is done standing up. She said they would writ a referral for her to see an oral surgeon for an evaluation. I asked them if they could writ a prescription for one or two pain pills to overcome her now increased level of pain from the cleaning. The dentist said it wasn't warranted for a simple cleaning. This was a shady money grab that left my daughter in more pain than she came in with. How dare you get me into your establishment under the false pretense of being able to offer guidance for my daughter. I took your referral to a different oral surgeon where they removed four impacted wisdom teeth from my daughter's mouth. The oral surgeon you would have sent us to was not even in our Delta Dental network. Do not trust this dentist!!! read more

I went in for a routine cleaning and left feeling like I had just been cast in a dental horror story. The hygienist gravely informed me my teeth were in "terrible condition" and insisted I book cleanings three times a year -- apparently my mouth is the dental equivalent of a condemned building. They also completely misdiagnosed the cause of my tooth pain, sending me to a surgeon for two wisdom tooth extractions I didn't actually need. That surgeon? A sequel nobody asked for: sloppy closure on the extraction site, infection as a bonus feature, no prescription for pain meds, impossible to reach, and billing practices that made me wonder if I'd wandered into a used car lot instead of an oral surgery office. I caution anyone considering this dental clinic. Bayhill Dental Care diagnosed me as having ten decayed teeth requiring fillings. This turned out to be not true after getting a second opinion from a trusted dentist elsewhere. Unfortunately, this was after I already undergone getting some fillings from them. The dentist was subpar, and I had to get several of Bayhill Dental Care's fillings redone elsewhere due to pain. I recommend reading other patients' Yelp reviews --some of which are critical of Bayhill Dental Care. If you go anyway, I recommend getting a second dentist's opinion before following through with any treatment plan from Bayhill Dental Care. Save yourself money, time, and the pain from perhaps unnecessarily drilling in your healthy teeth. read more

I used to go to Bayhill Dental back when I was on a barebones dental plan and couldn't afford much else. Their $69 flat fee cleanings for uninsured patients made them my default for close to a decade. It was never a standout clinic. The office wasn't exactly modern, leakage stains on their acoustic ceiling tile, and service was always a little hit-or-miss, but at the time, it was affordable and got the job done. Since then, I've upgraded my dental insurance and bounced around a bit due to moving. I've tried other dentists in different cities, and when I moved back, I ended up returning to Bayhill, but honestly, I wish I hadn't. Things have gone downhill. Big time. For years now, they've been trying to tell me I need multiple fillings (which over the years, I've had 4 other dentists reassure me that I definitely do not need fillings). On one visit, a new hygienist I'd never seen before spent most of my appointment scolding me about how I need to take better care of my teeth and shouldn't skip cleanings. She based this off their own records, which didn't show the regular, twice-a-year cleanings I'd had elsewhere. I didn't bother correcting her. Honestly, I didn't feel like it was worth the energy, but her whole approach was incredibly presumptuous and lacked any bedside manner. She warned me that my gums were in such terrible shape that I might need deep cleaning soon and may even soon lose some teeth, then measured my gum pockets and said I had some 4mm gaps. She told me, very condescendingly, "nobody's probably told you this before, right?" For the record, I've always measured in the 1-2mm range at other offices. Since then, other dentists have continued to confirm that my gums are totally healthy and that I'm taking great care of my teeth. Then, out of nowhere, a year after my last visit, I get a call from Bayhill Dental saying I have an open balance of a few hundred dollars. I haven't even been there since, and my insurance covers routine cleanings in full. I called to ask about the charge, and after some back and forth, they called me back to tell me to ignore the original message. Zero explanation. And it's not just me. My husband went in and was told by that same hygienist that his teeth were in terrible condition and that he should come in for cleanings three times a year. They also misdiagnosed the cause of his tooth pain, claiming he needed to remove two wisdom teeth and referring him to a surgeon who also was a total disaster: poor closure on the extraction site, resulting infection, no prescription for meds, hard to get a hold of, and questionable billing practices. My mom also used to go here. They've repeatedly pushed expensive treatments on her, including crowns, bridges, night guards. She was convinced to do her crown there, of which it had to be redone four times. Four. That meant time off work, a ton of discomfort, and absolutely no sense of accountability from the office. She was also wrongly billed almost $2,000 even though her insurance plan should've covered everything 100%. This place used to be tolerable when it was just about affordability, but I would not trust them with my dental care anymore. Between the pushy treatment plans, questionable billing, poor communication, and lack of care, I'd say steer clear. We've since found a new dentist who has been nothing but transparent, professional, and caring -- everything Bayhill Dental isn't. read more

I hate leaving negative reviews unless there was some diabolical issue that occurred. However, I feel like I should share my experience with this dental office as neutral as possible. I hope that sharing will be useful to patients and to the dental office. PROS I went here for myself and 5 yo son. The entire staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. The staff seems to like and respect each other. You can make online appointments. They seem organized, attentive, and efficient. Office is clean and hygienic. The location is safe, has plenty of parking. They accept most major insurances and offer payment assistance. While you wait in your chair, they have you watch this very outdated style film about home dental hygiene and it was a bit monotone but it was very informing. My son does brush and floss much better since going here. CONS They accept pediatric patients but the office is not setup to be child friendly. WHY I WONT RETURN: 1. My son spoke mostly Spanish but he doesn't have an obvious accent. They sat him in the room next to where I was being worked on. I could hear them talking. Before they started working on my son, they were teaching him dental things. They asked him if he knew what floss was and he didn't. I overheard the hygienist say with a negative tone "wow he doesn't even know what floss is". I did not like that judgement at all. The reality was my son does know, he just didn't know the English word for floss. He learned the English word that day and they also taught him a lot about dental hygiene and that's great. I just really did not appreciate the assumption and judgement and it's something I can't quite move on from. 2. They made it uncomfortable to say no. They put pressure on me for a night guard. I said I was not interested. They continued to pressure me. Even though I didn't want to, I felt I had to explain all the personal reasons why I was saying no. They still pressured me. I reluctantly agreed. They said I could talk to the front and they assured me they had "very affordable payment options". I went to front to make the appts and talk about payment options. Surprise - those affordable payment options were very much not affordable. I felt uncomfortable to keep explaining myself - I kept trying to tell them no and they just were unwavering in accepting that. It was weird because I felt deeply uncomfortable and that my worries were being dismissed but they were so friendly the entire time. I just made the appointments because it seemed easier then to keep saying no. I ended up cancelling and we go to a new dentist. In summary, Bayhill is amazing at dental work but just thinking about going back there for an appt gives me anxiety as I remember the pressure I felt trying to say no and how they judged my son. I think these are easy things for them to correct and hopefully this insight helps. read more

My family and I have been going to Bayhill Dental Care for several years. Initially, I chose this place as our family dental office due to the convenient location (close proximity to our house and stationed at the Bayhill Shopping Center, where CVS and our family optometrist are), but now we are loyal customers due to several reasons... Venue: A+. Not only is there ample parking in the lot, the office is always very clean. Even the unisex bathroom, which is always fully stocked with lavender aromatics, is impressively always well kept. A dental office should always be immaculate and Bayhill Dental Care never falls short of being squeaky clean. Service: A+. Top notch and unbeatable. Every staff member is warm and friendly. My entire family is always welcomed with smiles and neighbourly greetings. I ask A LOT of questions and my inquiries are always answered in a thorough and patient manner - Dr. Veronica Gonzales was very informative and helpful when I had to decide between a regular night guard and Invisalign retainer. You definitely feel like everyone cares about your well-being here. In fact, one time, when we were going to cancel our routine cleanings due to temporary lack of insurance, Dr. Diaz approved for the office to provide cleanings free of charge for all four of us. This is generous service that goes above and beyond to demonstrate their genuine interest in their clients. One holiday season, Dr. Diaz passed out free toothbrush and toothpaste packs to everyone in the waiting room. Overall grade is A++. That's right, A double plus I am giving them. I moved from Oregon, where I had a fantastic dentist for five years, to Bay Area and I need to find a dentist. I made a huge mistake to came to Bayhill Dental Care because it's the closest to my residence and ignored its 4.2 yelp review while dozens if not hundreds of other dental places are above 4.8 within drive distance. In my second visit, the hygienist gave me a nightmare. I had to stop her from torturing me in the middle of the deep cleaning and she kept saying this was what the deep cleaning was supposed to be. No, it's not. None of my hygienists in Massachusetts nor Oregon nor my hometown had ever done anything like this to make me curl up in pain like this! Another hygienist came "saved" the day but I don't think she did her job. She just did something just to send me away. I left feeling like escaping a horror house and never went back. SO SHOULD YOU. Give other dental places a try. This place got the lowest in the neighborhood for a reason. I learned in the hard way. read more

All my dentists that came before said how i have nice teeth and never a cavity because of the PH balance in my mouth that kills them. But twice Bayhill said I had cavities and needed fillings. Umm as dentists couldn't you have told me to floss better six months before during my last visit? One of the assistants even told me how I needed to get it done ASAP before it got worst. When I told her I actually don't have insurance she acted like she didn't believe me! Just because you're not being truthful doesn't mean your customer is too. Well guess what guys? I needed a new dentist and chose BAYHILL DENTAL CARE located in the Bayhill Shopping Center, San Bruno, CA. Having mobility issues and walking with a cane I needed a dentist on street level and Blue Zone parking available. BAYHILL DENTAL CARE was everything I was searching for and more. The front office personnel were friendly and answered all my questions. The waiting room was clean and displayed a few Christmas items and soft music was heard throughout... There were about 6 dental areas available and all were clean and ready to seat patients. Very impressive to me and reassuring that I found the right dental care for me. The Dental Assistants, Hygienist and my Dentist were professional, friendly and made my initial visit a positive experience. My teeth were cleaned and I left feeling comfortable that I found my future dental care. X-rays (digital) were taken and shown on a screen near my dental chair. Technology has come a long way making x-rays quicker and more detailed and easier on the patient. I returned a week later for a "deep cleaning" a procedure that I had been delaying and because of Covid another 2+ years went by. I heard people talk about deep cleaning so I was prepared for the worst. The deep cleaning was not at all what people warned me about!! It was just like a regular cleaning. TO BE HONEST, the moderate-severe arthritis in both of my knees hurt more than the deep cleaning!!! Like everything else...it's all relative. I have one more appointment to do the left upper/lower teeth for a deep cleaning this week...without any anxiety at all. First I want to recognize the staff at the front desk. They are so great to work with and are always helpful & pleasant when I call to schedule appointments or have questions about insurance. Dr. Santa Maria is great. I informed her of my anxiety during my filling procedure. She acknowledged my anxiety and made sure I was comfortable throughout the service. She managed to finish my 3 fillings in a timely manner. I had to come back to shave down a filling so that my retainers would fit properly. Even though I forgot to bring my retainers on my visit, Dr Santa Maria was able to shave my filling just right. Amazing!! Because I forgot my retainers, she offered to accommodate me if I needed to make a third visit. I want to thank her for extending that effort and making sure I received complete care. Very bad service by Dr. Glenda Yuzon Santa Maria. She didn't numb my moms teeth well enough during the procedure, she did root canal on her teeth. My mom was in extreme pain, her BP spiked to 207 and her face turned dark blue. I would definitely not recommend her to anyone. I called the clinic & placed our concerns, was told she would call us back but she never did. That shows how much she cares for her patients. She was rushing to go home. Despite seeing my moms condition she left before my mom left the clinic instead of giving her any remedies or showing any compassion. Also the RX she received had her date of birth and address listed wrong. It was of some other patient. Very disappointing! Check out the last picture. The swelling and skin turning blue black with extreme pain. Dr Glenda said that's NORMAL!!!! No that is not normal, this is not the first time we have had a dental procedure. It shouldn't have been like that. It would have been nice if she owned up to her mistake instead of being defensive and playing with patients lives!!!! I would definitely not recommend this place to anyone, go there if you want to take the risk of playing with your family members lives. We are canceling 3 other family members appointments which we had there and going somewhere else. My routine cleaning was scheduled for 9am. I'm wondering how long I'll need to wait? I would have appreciated if they let me know when I checked in that the person I had my appointment with was running late. I make an effort to arrive before my scheduled time because I want to respect their time.
