Horrible experience here. The entire visit was absolute chaos. I never once saw the doctor, the techs took over 45 minutes to just do x-rays while they were training the new 18 year old tech. She hit me in the head with the x-ray machine and nobody gave her any direction. The only normal part of my visit was talking to the hygienist she was quick and efficient. At the end of my visit some tech came in and said I don't like your x-rays you have an infection in your root canal that's going to be a $350 CT scan for us to even diagnose it. I asked why she thought that and spoke half English she said I just don't like the way it looks? I went back to my old dentist for a second opinion and turns out there was nothing wrong with my root canal so I have no idea where they got that from. I asked for a break down of what my insurance covers and they told me I don't understand how insurance works and that's not possible. Weird because I went to my old dentist a week later and everything was covered. Be careful about this place they tried to give me a $1500 quote and tell me I had some random infection, still not sure what the doctor does all day but he definitely isn't involved in exams read more

I've been going to this dental office for about 4 years now and while the dentists have been friendly and seem competent, I've had to deal with coming back to have fillings repaired that they did multiple times now. I just finished getting x-rays and they're now asking me to pay them to repair two crack filings they did less than two years ago. The quality of the workmanship done here has become questionable to me. The front desk manager told me their services are not guaranteed and that clients are responsible to pay. I can definitely agree with similar yelp reviews that once can get the sense that this place goes the distance to try and get as much money out of you. Ive lost all trust in this office to take care of my dental services without ripping me off financially and will seek dental services elsewhere moving forward. I had a tooth that had been previously difficult to resolve over the years, and Dr. "J" reassured me with detailed explanation that he would be able to remedy the problem. He was friendly and kind, and everyone made sure I was comfortable during the procedure. He was honest with the time it would take to heal and I now no longer feel pain. This office constantly upcharged for anything they could find. After switching offices I had no issues at all.

San Clemente Dental Associates overbills, upsells, and is not smart enough to file the insurance claims properly. They took our money upfront in July (over $900), and got paid by our insurance (United Health Care) a few months later with my help getting them to file the claims correctly. Even after they were fully paid by me and by UHC, they refuse to repay us months later. I have called and talked to Anabell at least 12 times, maybe more. I only recorded 11 of the calls. All I get is one ridiculous excuse after another about why they can't pay me back. They shouldn't be in business. I told my son they were crooks before he went there, and he thought that was impossible. They proved me correct. They owe me over $500 according to United Health Care. United Health Care agreed that San Clemente Dental Associates isn't processing claims correctly and is refusing to pay me what is owed. I sat on a three-way call today and listened to UHC trying to get San Clemente Dental Assoc. to pay me back and the UHC rep was shocked by the run around she got too. San Clemente Dental Associates, you should be embarrassed by your horrible behavior! Last note. I am filing with BBB and the Dental Board of California with all supporting documents. read more

Terrible experience. Annabel in the front office had one motive only and that was to extract as much money as possible from us. My wife went to this dentist with a cracked filling and after an initial appointment came away with a quote for almost $5,000. After checking our insurance the price for a new crown in the one tooth was $235.00. After going back and forth with them and the insurance company for a week Annabel finally suggested we find another dentist as we weren't prepared to pay their additional costs. The Hygienist and Dental Assistant's have all been excellent the past 4 years The two different Dental Doctors I have worked with have also been fine. There was a change in the Customer Service/Office Manager Professional and she does not provide professional service I feel. She is rude and disrespectful and has pressed my Adult Teenage Daughter twice where she left crying and embarrassed. Not appropriate behavior for customer service. Cost of services were not approved and mentioned before scheduled. A different time on a night guard issue Doctor approved one thing and Office manager was argumentative with customer and disrespectful during pick up etc.. Don't need the drama over having 4 visits per year and working hard to have good Dental Insurance! We don't need to ruin our day over unprofessional rude service providers. read more

The only good thing about this place was Dr. Fields - I finished my ortho treatment with her. Unfortunately she left this place. This office is unorganized, a continuous revolving door. They lack communication skills amongst their employees. In addition, every time I came in for a cleaning, they would "up charge" for something I didn't need. I mean this isn't a nail salon! I never saw any of the dentists either, it was always the hygienist. I also got a consultation for a dental implant - they charged me 250 for the CT scan which is a ridiculous amount of money and was quoting me 3500 for an implant. I went and saw other places for second/third opinions and found out this place is charging ridiculous amount of money for ALL of their services. And I pay premium for my dental plan. Look elsewhere. Don't waste your time here, especially if you are seeing Dr. J, as they only see you as a number/$$$$. They don't even know your name, nor take the time to read your charts. read more

I was skeptical about this dentist after my first visit, but my latest experience changed my mind and proves they are headed in the right direction. I enrolled as a new patient after my husband had a root canal here (everything went great btw). My first encounter was a bit awkward: they left me a follow-up message after my initial exam to inform me that I had 5 cavities and needed to get them filled. When I called back, they said "that's what's in their notes", but that they'd check the X-rays to see what was factual (because the dentist said my teeth were awesome and I've never had a cavity, so I found it hard to believe I had 5 all of the sudden)! They called back shortly after and admitted that they had referenced someone else's records for some reason and that my teeth were fine. Even though this was minor mistake, for some reason it really upset me - I didn't feel like careful work was being done, or that I mattered (if they didn't know who I was). I called the Office Manager, Felipe, to let him know about this first impression, and ultimately I decided to give them a proper chance at my first official cleaning. And.... I am proud to say that today's cleaning was absolutely wonderful! Marcella quickly checked me in at the front desk, and after waiting only a minute or two, I was shown back and immediately greeted by the hygienist, Nellie. Nellie was fun, relatable, very smart, and looked out for my best interests. My cleaning was extremely quick (less than 40 mins), and that even took into account the time it took to address and treat a minor infection she discovered during the process. All in all, the antibiotic treatment was $114 bucks, and my insurance covered the rest. And for a 2:00 pm appt, I was out the door before 2:45 pm! Impressed and ready to continue my dental journey with Nellie and her team. Thankful I gave these guys another try, and encourage them to keep their clients #1! Thanks SC Dental. read more

This is a continuation of an August 2, 2021review by Tania A.: I had to remind her that it is standard business practice to have all communications between the parties done in writing. Words that cannot be stated on paper, have no bearing--they are just hot air! On 7/22, Lucy called the house and spoke with my husband. She said that she wants to tell me that the hygienist disagrees with the dentist, and she wants to explain it to me verbally. From our previous experiences, her verbal words are meaningless unless she is willing to commit them to writing. I sent Lucy an email asking to put this statement in writing, which she refused, of course. Until my recent retirement, I was a business executive for many years, and if any employee insisted on just verbal communication and claimed that writing an email is too demanding, they would have been fired on the spot. In the morning of July 20th, I left my contact information with Lucy and Breanna asking for the owner, Dr. Hossein Jahangiri, who was with a patient at the time, to give me a call. I was assured by both of them that he will contact me when he is done with his appointment. Guess what? It's been almost two weeks and I'm still waiting... It seems that the individuals here who are supposed to act on behalf of patients do everything possible to work against their patients. As you can tell, the credo " your care and comfort is our #1 concern" does not apply to this office. Here in San Clemente, a dental office is on every corner, so, naturally, we are taking our business someplace else. Having dissatisfied customers writing negative reviews does not promote good will. In fact, since I'm a licensed counselor who counsels individuals on Medicare benefits, including cost reduction programs available for expensive prescription drugs, I'm going to spread the word around to protect others from the kind of outrageous and appalling treatment my husband and I received in this office that specializes not in patient service but rather in patient disservice. read more

If you're looking for a new dentist, don't look here... This place is only about the money and hands down the worst dentists I've ever been to. Between my husband and I, we spent over $3000 here and only did half of the work they recommended. We tried this place because it had decent reviews and was part of our insurance, but it was a terrible choice. Every time I came in to have work done, we had agreed on a price at first, and every single time they came up with excuses why it ended up costing more by the time I left. They practically force the laser treatment down your throat, and they almost didn't do the regular cleaning on my husband because he wouldn't agree to have it done. It costs $500, btw. Every procedure I had done, it took forever, and I left in pain. They once took me back almost an hour late because they were running behind. Then they apologized and gave me a Starbucks gift card that only had $2 on it. Then again when my bite didn't match up after a filling, I waited over an hour for them to come into the room. And they only came in at that time, because I told them I had to go back to work. You also never get the same person. It's a new dentist or dental hygienist every time, so there's no continuity. We just went to a new dentist today. And no work was recommended for my husband (even though he only did half of what SCDA recommended). The work I need to have done PLUS the cost of replacing a poorly done filling that was just completed by CSDA last June will only cost me $219 total. Now that we've found a good dentist, knowing that we paid over $3000 to SCDA makes me sick to my stomach. Save your money, your time, and yourself from pain and avoid this place. read more

This dental office is an approved dentist for the Dental Plan I had (I have since cancelled)! Did old film X-rays - said I might have a cavity - hygienist and dentist could not agree - hygienist said I had pockets in all 4 quadrants measuring a 7 - I take excellent care of my teeth - gave me a treatment plan of $1200 - I left and not going back! Went to WCU dental hygienist school today - had a full FREE Evaluation - no pockets of 7 a few 4's, 1 5 and a free preventative cleaning is schedule. The X rays sC dental association took were so bad - WCU took more and here is the really sad part. I went in because I had gum pain in the back of my mouth - apparently I have a bone spur growing through my gum - that neither dentist or hygienist found - when I went in with complaint of pain - NEVER GO HERE - the dentist Jacket was dirty and I had a really bad vibe when I left with my $1200 treatment plan! I am 36 years old and have consistently gone to the dentist my entire life and choosing to go here was by far the worst dental experience I have ever had. I previously went to Carlsbad Dental, which I loved, but decided to change to something closer to home since I no longer go down there for work. When I originally checked reviews 2 years ago they seemed decent, but that seems about the time they changed for the worse. I had only missed one 6 month cleaning prior to going here. When I went in for my first appointment for a cleaning they insisted I needed a deep cleaning and also had 3 cavities. I decided to just get it done and thought that after that it would be smooth sailing the way all of my previous dentists had been. The deep cleaning was the worst dental experience of my life, but it did not end there. Went back three more time for regular cleanings. They used a vibrating water pick for the cleanings, which was by far the most panful and uncomfortable way I have ever had my teeth cleaned. As others stated they constantly tried upselling me on other procedures that I did not need. I have never had a hygienist try to upsell me on additional things every visit that were not covered by my insurance. I would not recommend this dental office to anybody. read more

So let me start out by saying that I haven't been to the dentist in many years, 16 years to be exact...And I probably would of put it off for many more years if it wasn't for the excruciating pain coming from one of my teeth. Finally deciding to address this situation I called and made an appointment with Rosemary, she was very sweet and very helpful( a cutey too). most caring receptionist ever!  As I walked in I was greeted promptly and very warmly, very nice enviroment. I sat down for maybe like 5 minutes before I was helped by the dental assistant Rrio, who was also very warm and kind ( a trait that I found with everybody at the office) I spoke to Dr. Nicole and she was very informative as to what was going on in my mouth, she made sure to inform me on all my options and the pro's and con's of them all. I never felt pressured on any way or the other. All in all, I needed to get a tooth pulled out(unfortunately it was too late for a root canal) a deep cleaning, 13 fillings, and an implant (new tooth, for where the old necrotic one used to be) ( Thats what you get when you don't go to the dentist for 16 years!) After we agreed on what we wanted to do, everything just sort of just went by. A couple weeks later I was done. All the procedures were extremely comfortable, and the recovery was a breeze. I was very anxious when I first made the appointment, by the end I would walk in care free, because I knew I was in good hands. Dr. Nicole and Lupe's bedside manners were top notch. This review is about my husband's and my shocking experience dealing with the front desk employees at the San Clemente Dental Associates office of Southern California Family Dentistry (SCFD).  SCFD overs four dental offices owned by Hossein Jahangiri, D.D.S. who has a statement on his business card: " Your care and comfort is our #1 concern."  Until recently, my husband and I believed that this statement was accurate.  In the past, as recently as April 2021, there was a wonderful friendly, knowledgeable and helpful staff, especially Marcella who was well-versed and efficient in assisting patients with their needs.  Unfortunately, she is no longer there and the new person at the reception desk by the name of Lucy took a completely different approach with us: she promised the world to us and delivered absolutely nothing.  In fact, she did everything possible to ignore our multiple requests for assistance with simple paperwork. My first telephone contact with Lucy was on July 12, 2021 during which I mentioned to her the Benefit Coverage Request Form from Express Scripts (our prescription drug company) which is necessary to complete in order to reduce our out-of-pocket cost for Arestin--an expensive antibiotic costing $95 per tooth and not covered by Express Scripts. I told Lucy that every time we saw a hygienist in this office, she applied Arestin under the gums of 1 or 2 teeth to treat a bacterial infection.  Assuming that this kind of antibiotic treatment may go on and on, I asked Lucy a very simple question as to how this office may facilitate us with completing this form. According to the instructions, all that was needed was filling out a doctor's portion on this form (1 line) and make a statement, which we prepared, in which the dentist would  acknowledge that there is no substitute for Arestin.  Lucy promised to follow-up with me via email after speaking with the dentist that day.  Needless to say, more than a week passed by, but she did absolutely nothing, thus ignoring the process.  We were due to see the hygienist again within a few weeks and were under a time constrain to send ASAP the completed paperwork to Express Scripts for approval. During the same conversation on 7/12, Lucy  mentioned a new manufacturer's discount program for Arestin, for which she had the paperwork that she promised to fill out and process for us ASAP.  She encouraged us to fill out the patient portions of the Arestin forms, submit copies of all of our medical cards and rush them back into the dental office--which we did within an hour--so she could process them that day. So far so good; however, I'm sorry to say that we wasted our time since Lucy had no idea how to fill out the dentist's portion of it and also was not even interested to find it out from the other three SCFD offices. Such pure laziness should not be acceptable in a work place! Lucy wanted me to come back when Sonia (who apparently knows more about this program) returned from her vacation on Tuesday 7/20, which I did in spite of the notion that this work should have been handled internally without involving us, the patients. When I returned on Tuesday, the mysterious Sonia apparently had an emergency and was not working that day... or any other day as we had been waiting and waiting for her assistance... That Tuesday on 7/20, Lucy told me the following: "I spoke with Dr. Kevin Nguyen who looked at your and your husband's X-rays and stated that you don't need Arestin." This message was rather surprising to hear since our X-rays were done BEFORE we received four applications of this expensive antibiotic. Does it meant that we didn't have bacterial infections in the first place and that spending $380 on treating it was completely unnecessary??? Then, when I asked her to put this verbal statement in writing and forward it to my email while I'm still in the office, since she neglected (although promised) to respond to any of our previous emails, she became upset and rude. There were no patients in the office lobby and the phone didn't ring--seems like a good time to type up just one sentence, which she refused to do. The office manager, by the name Breanna, raised her voice and created a scene exhibiting most unprofessional behavior by ordering me-- a patient--to leave the office: completely appalling and outrageous behavior, which I have never experienced in my entire life! Evidently, she was trying to protect Lucy from further embarrassment, while accusing me of being pushy and demanding. How so, by asking Lucy to type up the words she had just spoken? Something has definitely changed here--for the worst. The dentist I used to see is rarely available. When I had a scheduled appointment that I had to wait months for (because they were so booked) I find out the day of my appointment that it has been canceled. They never contacted me. Supposedly someone had called and left me a voicemail but I never received said voicemail. The only reason I found out my appointment was canceled was because I called them to confirm the time that day. Such horrible communication. This occurred a while ago, so maybe things have changed, but I have since left dentist offices. read more

Really sad to see reviews on here that confirmed my beliefs . I'm 25 have had regular dental cleanings and visits my whole life . I really don't care about having to wait in the office what was extremely disturbing to me is going in for a cleaning and the hygienist is literally poking me with her instrument and saying oh your bleeding a lot you will need a deep cleaning . I've never had anyone tell me that and after talking to friends much older who never had it I was skeptical. They actually had me in tears scaring me so bad that I had horrible gums and needed this deep cleaning to prevent gum disease. Oh mind you the receptionist comes in with a bill out of pocket of 700+ for this . Thank god I literally could not afford it because they made me so convinced this was a necessary treatment . I called my boyfriend and he said they are scamming you , after I came out almost in tears the hygienist told me oh your young I'm just trying to help you , huh???? By taking my money ??? This office is seriously THE BEST! Oral hygiene is a top priority for me, I care about my teeth more than most. There is no one I would trust more with my mouth! They have always done a fabulous job during every visit. They do a great job of explaining things if you have any questions and even showed me the right way to floss (I guess there's a wrong way!) which in the long run will save my gums a lot of trouble! I don't know if any of my friends love their dentist as much as I love mine. All the staff members are so awesome! My hygienists have been so friendly, sweet, and gentle (it can hurt getting your gums probed, especially by the wrong person!) I love the conversations we have had and that you aren't just another person in the chair. My girls at SC Dental Associates are one of a kind! In an emergency circumstance, and with great nervousness about both costs (no insurance) and my health, I called the SCFD team at 10pm one night, with a completely imploded toxic tooth. They eased my concerns, told me to come in next morning and they'd fit me in. I did, and from my first interaction with Ashley at the front desk, to Lupe and the team in the back...through to Dr Nicole, and then Felipe...I couldn't have been treated better and made more at ease by anyone. I have a plan of care, clear diagnosis, and plans to take next care steps forward this coming week, 5 days after initial visit...and it was all VERY affordable so far. Well to start off, I have been on the search for a good dentist for a long time now. It is very important to me to feel comfortable with the person who is working on my teeth because too many things can go wrong, and dental work is very expensive to have it go wrong.... I havent officially gotten the work i need to done yet, so i do plan on writing another update review then... but im soo blown away i just have to write something now. I have a few cavities that need fillings ASAP! I have HMO, and recently switched my dental office to Talega Dental.... dont even get me started on them... realized i had to switch AGAIN so i researched and found this place and they fit me in the next day (which was a saturday) to do a consultation. not only did the dentist make me feel really comfortable but she made me feel important. So did all of the front desk people that ive worked with and talked with. the gentlemen at the front during my apt was very helpful in working out price plans for me. which is also very important to me. Since my apt ive called in a couple times and they always seem willing to help me, even called me in perscriptions for my pain. so far.... i feel like im in really good hands. i havent felt like that since my old dentist back in elementary school! so theres my (pre-work done) review... but i do recommend you check it out for yourself. read more

Hate to put a damper on the reviews but had terrible experience with this dental office. First of all their office policy of having to make two appointments just to get your teeth cleaned is ridiculous. My husband went for his x-rays and consultation. His first impression was that they were not very professional. Then he had to spend 3 hours with an insurance person that did not have a clue what she was doing. Three hours later when he kept saying I have to leave she finally came up with an estimate of $1,000.00 s of work that he needed done. He was stunned as he has been going to the dentist regularly all his life. We had recently moved to San Clemente and bought Delta Care Insurance. That is why we went to this office as they are on this plan. Well, we wanted to get a second opinion and went back to a Dentist we trusted (but did not take this insurance) took the x-rays with us and paid the cleaning bill out of pocket. They said all he needed was a regular cleaning which SC dental said he needed all this special cleaning with a periodontist that was going to take 4 visits. And tried to talk him into getting an implant which is totally unnecessary. When I talked to the Office Manager Angela who sounds so "nice" when she answers the phone. She was totally rude to me and asked if the dentist we went to was even licensed. Happens to be a dentist I have gone to for many years and is an excellent dentist. Would still go to her if we hadn't moved, are now on Social Security and got this reasonable dental insurance through Kaiser.
