I have had several dentists in my lifetime. One of which happened to be one of my closest friends back in Northern California. When we moved down here, finding a solid dentist with a fantastic practice was a must as oral hygiene is incredibly important (my wife works in the field and preaches this 24/7). So I needed someone who I could trust, an office with a staff that is incredible with their care of the patient as well as fun to work with. That being said, I had no major work done, including no fillings, crowns, etc. I had a fracture on one tooth (broke my heart) but Dr. Curfew and his team worked to ensure that everything would be okay. While working on the fracture and crack to create a space for a crown, it WAS NOT that bad, plus I got to get caught up on one of my favorite shows. Baby Yoda aka The Child rules. I can't say I enjoy going to the dentist, but I do enjoy the people and talent that exists at Dr Harrell's office. I'm a meticulous individual, perhaps too meticulous...even OCD...so if I'm pleased with a job then it's probably done right. Over the past decade I've had some specialized work done on my teeth by Dr. Harrell and have been thoroughly impressed. And it doesn't hurt that the staff happens to be a great group too. UPDATE- March 6, 2019 Dr. Curfew is an amazing replacement for Dr. Harrell. I was nervous about how such an amazing dentist could be replaced but the transition was flawless. Very, very impressed with my experience at San Clemente Smiles. New to the area and needed a new dentist. Reached out and set up my whole family. I scheduled my cleaning, the office is clean, modern and styled well - it's a welcoming and comfortable environment. The entire staff is incredible. From the point you check in to the hygienist getting you set up and cleaned, all incredible friendly and caring. I was impressed with all of the equipment in the office / definitely new technology. I needed to come back to have a filling replaced. They were able to get me scheduled in a reasonable timeframe (my appointment wasn't urgent) even with the busy schedule post covid. Dr. Curfew was fabulous. He communicated very well throughout the experience. He always monitored my pain tolerance - even after my numbing shot. I have to admit that the tv on the ceiling with Netflix and noise canceling headphones was a nice touch! I was able to easily focus elsewhere and not overthink the situation. If you have any apprehension or unease in visiting a dentist - come here. You will be comfortable and taken care of. A dentist visit won't be a scary thing. This office is really amazing. I had trouble making an appointment to see my regular dentist during COVID and went looking for another dentist. I made an appointment to see Dr Curfew on a friends stellar recommendation and everything she said was true. The front office staff are lovely and incredibly welcoming, my hygienist Jackie was very easy to chat with and did a very thorough job of cleaning and examining my teeth. Dr, Curfew was kind, spent a lot of time with me as a new patient and ,clearly, is an expert in his field. I was a client for 1-1/2 years or so until they changed their billing policies. They want people with Delta Dental to pay their bill in full and then let Delta send the insured party a check. Not sure WTH is going on but totally unacceptable in my mind. The doctor did a good job on 2 crowns that I had done but again the billing was a pain. They over billed me and it wasn't until I received notification from my insurance of the over billing did they admit to the over charge. They then asked if I would be ok with just having credit with the office. I asked them to send me a check which they finally did. I also wasn't thrilled with their assembly line approach to dentistry. I felt like I was at a used car dealership with the lady in charge of billing. I decided to take my business to another local dentist. One other thing is that when I had my teeth cleaned there twice I didn't think the hygienist worked very hard to get my teeth clean. Hopefully I'll be happier with my new dentist. read more
